Slow board?

Should we bring back EITHER the day of the week ticker change OR the daily check in? Either way, we'll try to add new/different questions so it's not totally redundant.

I think the main problem is there is a small percentage of people in this BMB that actually converse back and forth and respond to more than just personal questions. That's a huge part of the board being so slow. I've also noticed a lot of newer participants, which is great, but they only post once or twice and then I don't see their names and again for awhile.
Unfortunately, I don't think more daily posts will change that much. People will either participate or will just come to say their peace and leave.

@suchaglencoco Yes! It is a lot of "post and ghost."

@sandbar517 can I add that maybe if the Daily Check In comes back, that it maybe be a little less structured with the repetitive questions and more of the GTKY/Randoms/Rants/Raves? Seems like those questions get more of a response from people and give others more to respond to.

I like GTKYs. I think they have more room for back and forth than ticker changes.

I agree, but I think its getting harder for @ivyvines6 to keep coming up with new ones. So maybe the rest of us need to step up that game.

Maybe a UO, but I think this board is slow because it’s so boring. No offense to anyone, but there’s no drama, it’s a lot of unicorn farts and rainbows. The popular BMBs have some drama, either an “out there” user, or something to keep things interesting. There’s like, minimal snark here, and that’s why people come to The Bump.

@Ceridwen21, the drama across the bump seems to be a lot less than it was my last go. I think they cracked down too hard on fun snark.

I don’t actually have a problem with the speed of the board. This is moving a little bit slower than my last bmb, yes, but it’s so much easier to catch up on, and it’s easier to care about a smaller group of people than a super large group. (If that makes sense.)

The best parts of the board are where organic conversation and engagement happen. When it's too formal or structured people post and ghost. I don't think more structured threads will help that.

Personally I'm not a fan of drama so I'm glad we don't have much of that! It's fine laughing at other BMB's but when I come home I want to feel relaxed and supported not attacked and judged.

I agree the board is a little slow, however I’m guilty of being “slow” lately to post. After that three day bump glitch where I couldn’t log in, I kinda lost my mojo. I do keep up with everyone though!

Anyways. I don’t think the check ins are the problem. I think it’s just tough to get people to converse regularly, you can’t really force it. Just one woman’s opinion.

This board is so different than the first time I was pregnant. I think it's slow because people are so afraid to ask questions and know where to put it. I miss the boards where people could feel free to post as they wished. Yes it was unorganized. But, I could click on a post about breast pumps instead of searching for it through different threads on weekly discussions on all topics.

I think if we aren’t so rigid, it may be easier to converse. I’ve been out of the loop lately dealing with the sickness stuff I was telling y’all about. Sometimes I feel like I’m not posting anything worthwhile other than trying to just be here. But that’s really because I’ve been so sick and trying to recover!!!

I totally agree. I like the random organic conversations we have. I usually get involved with answering the questions on the board but it's also nice to have random back and forth (like this whole thread).
I've had some real busy days where I can't get on and then days thay are slow at work and I'm checking here nonstop lol. Maybe we just need to get into a rythym with some of the threads and keep encouraging people to post (especially newbies). I was very quiet at the beginning because I didn't know if I could or should chime in.

I think daily check ins and randoms are too redundant. I talk about my pregnancy in the randoms and we can have a conversation.

I don't think people are afraid to post because we still have drive bys and people don't even really call them out on it anymore besides directing them to the intros.

I also agree with @ivyvines6 I would rather build relationships with a small group of women than get lost in the shuffle of a large group or forget who said what.

I think forcing more check ins is not going to get the speed of the board people want. Start interesting threads or even controversial topics if people crave drama.

What about AMAs for posters to get to know each other? Or other ways to get more threads and more people to engage.

I'm in the same boat as @rachelg777, so I post pretty sparingly. I can usually check the boards, but don't have a whole lot of time to post. But I read a lot of posts in overall, which I guess turns me into a total lurker. Oops!

TBH, the app can suck a bag of dicks and that is what holds me back from posting 99% of the time. I don't have the luxury of being able to bump on a laptop so I'm constantly fighting the POS app and, more often than not, I get pissed off and move on.

I'm doing my best to post when I can so I can survive until we make a move to Facebook. I understand that this may not be the goal for most people here, but it is for me. I'm probably ruined from my June '15 Facebook group forever.

@thedawkterswife I have mine set on mobile when I'm viewing it in my browser. I can click on something that changes it to desk top and it makes it super tiny and I think I have to scroll like you said. Maybe you're not actually using mobile? I have an LG phone but when I had my Samsung it had the same settings...it's been awhile since I had an Iphone though so I don't remember.

@thedawkterswife okay upon googling it looks like if you have a newer version of Samsung Galaxy there should be a "more" button in the top right of your browser and there is a drop down list with a button that says "desktop view". If you are in desktop view you can click "more" and there is a button that says "mobile view". You want mobile view. Desktop view is going to make you have to scroll left and right.

@ivyvines6 For me, it's slow and buggy. Replies don't work (I have to remember the username and manually enter it), it always takes me back to the top of the board on page 1 after I view a thread. (Regardless of what page I was on) Posting photos is a hot mess and forget a gif. It just pisses me off.

It's possible I'm just an impatient bitch though. *shrugs*

@charlestonchew Yeah, I know what you're saying. If I have it on mobile it behaves much like the app. It's a vicious cycle.

It's my own plight really. I'm still here and I'll be slogging along for the duration. Too bad for you guys!

@thedawkterswife yeah mobile still sucks a bit for me but the app is even worse because every time I hit back to the main page it doesn't show me the yellow things that say whether I've read a thread or not. All in all I always prefer being on desk top but mobile allows me to participate during the day at work.

I have to agree with @thedawkterswife.
The app is so frustrating for me. Like I actually sit down when I know I have 30 mins+ so that I can read through and try to reply/contribute. I often have issues and didn't find it much easier with mobile browser or using a computer (which I rarely have access to).
Anyway I'm still trying! But I do think there are a lot of improvements that could be made to the app. Maybe more types of like/love/haha options like Facebook, easier to tag people, and just more visually easy to follow.
Just my thoughts...

^^^^ THIS!!!! I originally didn't want to move over too soon but the app is such a pain, some days it does nothing but load or not post my comments. I like ya all and want to be more involved, I really love the random topics too.

Also I have been pretty stressed out about my own pregnancy. I had spotting on and off for a couple weeks and tomorrow is my first appointment since the spotting. It stopped over a week ago so hoping all is well. But anxiety makes me not wanna bring others down with my own worries. Besides I am already high risk lol. And a second time mom so I don't have too many questions.

we could always have a debate thread if ya all want some drama. Obviously try to keep it civil but we are a bunch of pregnant ladies.

I know I'm guilty of posting and ghosting. I can't bump at work and it's hard at home with a toddler. Life is a lot busier this time around than last time when I could spend hours on my BMB. I want to keep up with you ladies and I do tend to read more than I post. I'm really going to try to post more often. I don't think having even more structured posts will help a slow board, TBH I get bored posting in those threads. I'm liking the GTKY threads.

Just got our computer hooked up because we’re finally not living in a hotel (after 2 months!!!). I should be able to contribute more because I won’t have to use the app. It’s easier to see what everyone said and what I want to respond to on the desktop.

I'd love to contribute more and really feel like I get to know people, but my time is also limited now that I have a toddler and SAH. Work gave me many more opportunities to obsessively check TB! I haven't been reading most of the randoms and gtky, but I'll start trying to do more.
