Let’s see some pictures of your ring/rings, or the ring you want eventually. I’d also love to hear your proposal story, or your dream proposal. (Or both if that’s how you wanna roll )
@ivyvines6 great topic! And congrats on your wedding! I hope your story will be in the comments.
Nothing too too exciting for our proposal. My husband is a terrible liar and he was so nervous so I was kind of expecting it (only about 2 hours before it happened though, not like weeks ahead of time). Took me to a park at sunset with our favorite pizza and just told me he loved me and asked. He did great.
The pic is from our wedding night. We got pizza on our first date, on the night he asked, and on our wedding night. Any excuse for pizza!
So we’ve always had this thing where I try every single year to make DH go for a walk with me after they light up the square and take in the Christmas atmosphere (as much as you can get in Florida anyway) with some hot chocolate and see the lights. He never wants to do it and complains constantly about it if I make him go. (Last year he went willingly for J to see Christmas lights) So when he suggested we go do that date I thought he was just trying to make up for being sketchy lately. It’s not in his (our) nature(s) to be overly kind and I honestly thought with the way he’d been acting that he was getting ready to let me down easily and break up with me. (Silly silly me)
So we get there and he’s acting all weird, mentioning there’s a lot of people all over the place, so I suggested we go to a smaller section of the downtown area that’s less crowded. We walk over there and he keeps telling me how much he loves me and how much better his life has gotten since he met me etc... When we got to the other area he said “Let’s make this a night to remember” and me, being me, turned around a bitchy saying “and what’s THAT supposed to mean?” Just to see him kneeing with a ring in his hand. “Ivy, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” And I obviously said yes.
We went to Harry’s afterwards, and we still joke that that was the most expensive meal that neither of us actually ate. (We had awesome lunch leftovers the next day) Immediately afterwards we went to my parents house, and DH had already asked my dad the week before at church. (I thought it was weird that he went to church but...) My dad’s response was “Dude, what took you so long?” When DH asked him.
The funny thing is I had shown him the ring I wanted beforehand and jokingly (not jokingly) told him that I’m going to be wearing this ring for the rest of my life, and this is what I want. He of course got me a slightly different ring and I’m so much more in love with it.
I picked out my ring. Actually, 3 rings, haha. DH lived by a Kesslers and was 2 hours away from me. I had an easy cashier job so I could drive to his place before he got done with work. So he sent me to Kesslers to look one day when we were together 10 months. The associate told him which one I really liked and that was that.
He drove down to my hometown that next week and visited my dad's grave to talk to him and ask his permission. He also messaged my brothers to ask them for their permission, which I thought was sweet.
He handed me a plastic penguin with "marry me" written on its belly when we went to bed that Friday night and I said no, haha. (The penguin was an ugly thing we would hide at each other's place when we'd visit, so it was a personal thing.) I told him I wanted some flowers and our song on and him on one knee. So the next morning I ran errands, came back to his place with rose pedals, candles, roses, our song on, and him on one knee with tears in his eyes. It was sweet.
My mom didn't believe he proposed during the day so she thought we were messing with her. I had to send her a photo of the ring, haha. Her exact words when she realized we weren't lying "you've gotta be sh**ing me!" It was classic and is now one of my favorite stories and one of her least favorites. Which makes it better.
@suchaglencoco about him going to your dad's grave. That is so sweet.
Like @ivyvines6, I thought he was going to dump me. We had been together for about 5 years at the time. I was in the process of buying a condo and he was being a colossal ass about it. He was so negative about the whole thing and was disappearing for big chunks of time of the weekends with no explanation.
We headed up to the camp we had both been counselors at for a long time, which basically means we don't see each other for the week, because the girls are on one side and the boys are on the other. One night, we were running the rag ceremonies for other counselors and he asked me to stay behind by myself so he could talk to me. I still had no idea what was going on. He started talking about our relationship and I still thought he was going to dump me. Then he got down on one knee and pulled out the rings and proposed. I was shocked and didn't even know what to say! And then I was so nervous for him that he had been carrying around that ring all week while at camp!
We have terrible cell service up there, so I didn't tell my mom until we go home. DH did not ask her permission which was probably a mistake. She was NOT on board and was asking a bunch of crazy questions about money and where we were going to live. In her defense, DH had been kind of a mess about school and didn't have a "career" at the time AND she was turning 50 the next week and having a hard time with that. He ended up going to EMT school that fall and getting hired full time by an ambulance company. My mom actually wrote him a letter a few months before the wedding apologizing and thanking him for making good on his promise. Now I think she likes him better than she likes me and my brother! Pictures of my ring in spoilers because they are huge.
I wish I had a picture of our proposal on my phone, I was in a ghuilly suit and looked like a swamp monster. He of course knew it was happening and dressed as a navy officer. We have theme partys in the summer at our NY home that was his father's in honor of the parties his father threw before he loaded away. That year we did a military theme because his father was in the navy and had always wanted to do a military theme. After he passed we were cleaning out the house and found a lot of decorations and things for a military themed party so we planned that with donations going to the homeless veterans that his uncle takes donations for with the vfw. We were handing our the awards for best costume and fastest obstacle course times and then we were going to announce next year's theme when he surprised me and said it would be a wedding theme got down on one knee and held out a ring. I was quite shocked.
PS I'm not really girly so I don't know how to take nice ring pictures.
I had gone with DH and his family to the beach for vacation. It was the last night and he said we should take one last night stroll on the beach. He said he wanted to change into different shorts first. (He hates the beach, so my suspicions were already raised). We walked a good ways and he kept saying "Isn't this romantic?" and giving me big one-arm hugs, keeping one hand in his pocket. He had me walk in front of him after we had turned around to head back to the hotel and called my name. When I turned around, he was on one knee holding the ring and asked "Will you marry me?" I said yes and cried. We got back to the hotel while everyone else was still in the pool and went on to bed. The next morning, his mom and sister came in our room and were trying to see if I had a ring on my finger or not. They didn't know I was pretending to be asleep when I heard them come in. They left and waited to bombard us once we had gotten up and around lol. Apparently everyone else, including the kids, knew Jon would propose on this trip. He had also emailed my Dad several months prior asking for his permission. Love my man so much!!!
The engagement ring is still the original, but I lost the original wedding band. I worse a cheap fake one for a couple years until he surprised me with a real replacement a few years ago. He also gave me the middle topaz ring the first Christmas after DD was born for her birth month and has her name and birthdate inscribed on the sides.
My husband had my ring custom made and even helped design it. The two side diamonds are family stones. One is from the engagement ring my dad gave my mom (he passed away when I was 2) and the other is from a piece of family jewelry from DH’s side. I don’t have a picture of the side (and I’m too lazy to take one ) but he had the initials of our last names worked into the design so you can tell which is which. He did a pretty good job!
I love this thread!!! Everyone's rings are gorgeous! @bjkay22 What is the decoration on your ring fingernail? I love the pizza association, too, so sweet! @ivyvines6 Your ring goes SO well with your Art Deco theme, I love it! @suchaglencoco I love the cute little thing with the penguin. We have a little hat made out of paper plates that my little sister made in elementary school, and a hideously ugly sweater that my BIL gave me for Christmas a few years ago (with a gift card buried under it) that we've been passing back and forth/hiding in random places for years! @mileswithmyles I LOVE your ring. It looks very similar to my "dream" ring, and pretty close to what I actually got. @jhysmath I had to google "ghuilly suit" and it makes your story so much better now that I know what it is! LOL What a great story!
My proposal story is awful. LOL Our courtship was very fast, we met in November and very shortly after we met, I gave him a picture out of the newspaper ads and said I want a ring kinda like this, but princess cut, and a little bigger. One day in February (I was sleeping after a night shift) he called me and told me he was shopping with his mom for my engagement ring, and he didn't know what to do. He couldn't buy me the ring he wanted to because he couldn't afford it. So he asked if I would rather have a smaller one that he could afford now, or wait a few years until he could afford the one I wanted. I told him to do what he thought he should, so he said, Ok I'll just buy this one. Wow, thanks for the surprise factor. He didn't actually end up giving it to me until June, and I was getting pretty antsy by that point, knowing he had it but wouldn't give it to me. He asked me at the beginning of June what days we had off together that month, and when I told him June 24th he said we should have dinner or do something special. So, of course I figured that he would do it then. On June 24th, he woke me up (again sleeping after a night shift) by bringing me breakfast in bed. A little while later I was in the bathroom (naked) brushing my teeth and getting ready to get in the shower to get ready for our dinner that night. He came in the bathroom and said he was really excited for dinner, and I said, Yeah, it'll be nice to have a night off together. I then thanked him for bringing me breakfast in bed and said no one had ever done that before, and he started talking about dinner again. I'm like, dude. yeah. Dinner will be great. I get it. He kept talking about how nice it would be, and finally said, "We can celebrate." I asked what we would be celebrating, and I turned around to see him on his knee (in our bathroom, with me buck naked and him wearing nothing but a pair of basketball shorts-talk about romantic) and he asked me to marry him. I said, "Are you fucking kidding me?" , started laughing, and when he said, "No I'm not kidding." I said, "Well where's the ring?" He said, "Oh yeah, oops!" and dug it out of his pocket. He told me after the fact that he did it that way because he knew I had figured out he was going to do it at dinner that night, so he did it before so he could still surprise me. I was thinking, well you could have done it with my breakfast in bed or NOT done it that night and did it later, I still would have been surprised! LOL I still give him crap about proposing in the least romantic way ever. Picture in spoiler. Sorry it's from far away, I can't take a current picture because my fingers are already so swollen I had a hard time getting them off. laugh/cry face.

Well we had already been together 8 years, living together 3 so I kind of knew this was coming but not exactly when he'd ask.
Long story short he left a ring box on the counter, told me to open it. When I finally did, it was EMPTY. I turn around to punch him (he likes playing jokes) and he's down on one knee with the real box open which was NOT empty and the rest is history.
Apparently he went to every jeweler in town trying to find something unique. I think he did great and I couldn't have picked a better ring if I had done it myself.
DH proposed while we were in our junior year of college. I had taken a semester off after a bad experience and was just going down to visit him for a weekend. When I got there we went back to my old school because we were going to meet up with some of my friends for dinner. All day he kept planning this walk for us down in the EcoLab (like a nature setting.) I tried to point out it was a cold and rainy November day but he kept telling me I made him promise to take me for a walk in the rain so let's do that. I thought maybe he might but then when we started on our walk his mom called and he answered but didn't seem to be in any hurry to end the call so I figured he must not be. But then we had to turn around because the trail was flooded. When we got to a semi dry spot he kneeled down and asked. He had asked my dad a few weeks before she he had come up to visit me too. So side story, I never actually wear the engagement ring because it snags everything and pinches my finger causing a blister. And I really don't like the ring at all. It was the ring his dad gave his mom and then she kept it after the divorce and passed on to him. But his dad proposed after six weeks of dating because she was pregnant and they were never happy together and divorced when DH was two after his dad had just finished building her dream home (which she got in the divorce...) Just in general it felt like an odd ring to pass down. If they had just upgraded later in life and passed it down sure, but they didn't. Also I don't have a picture because DS dumped out my entire jewelry box and it's been lost since then. But I don't ever wear jewelry besides my wedding ring so I don't really want another one. DH had specific instructions to have zero diamonds on the wedding band. Just a plain band. That's my style.
I'm currently running from work to home, so I don't have time to write a long, fun story, but I just wanted to pop in and say how much I enjoyed reading these/looking at everyone's photos! Y'all are cute : )
My proposal story is pretty lame...but I didn't care about the big proposal and didn't want it in public. We were 19 and 20 and DH just handed it to me while we were in the car driving back from Walmart lol. Small town folk here. He was cute though because he got a engagement and wedding band set and thought the band was for engagement instead of the ring with the stone so he gave me the band first. I guess it doesn't really matter but I wanted the stone to wear immediately lol. The ring was unfortunately cheap and got a little bent later on so I asked him a few years ago if I could update my set and he said he was fine with it so I'll post a picture of the one I have now.
@mileswithmyles I've come to terms with the outfit, because it adds to the fun of our story. We had also been together 8 years, living together for 6 years and I was thinking damn it finally.
Also I couldn't find a picture of me in it because I took all the photos, but that's a friend of our who decided he needed to try it on too.
Not sure if my husband ever really proposed or if it just organically came to exist. We were talking about an impending move he had coming up and he kept saying "when we move..." So I said, "look, bro, I like you a lot but I'm not moving unless we are seriously serious." He responded that he assumed we would be married by then and I just said "okay. Go on, when we move..."
DH proposed on my 21st birthday almost 9 years ago. My ring is a vintage platinum and emerald cut with baguettes on either side and beautiful vined detail on the band. I still think it’s the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen but I rarely wear it since having kids. I scratched one of them with it on one time and just decided to keep in the vault except for special occasions. Someday I’ll get back to wearing it daily. The only picture I can find right now is one I took the at the hotel on our wedding night.
DH proposed 4 months after we met. I think we both just felt it was right. We got married about a year and a few months later.
We went to the Florida Keys together. We went to dinner and watched the sunset at Mallory Square. We walked around awhile. We sat just watching the boats and water. He said that the week had been perfect but then said it had been almost perfect. We had a fight about something so I thought he was talking about that so I said I was sorry. lol He said it would be perfect if I agreed to be his wife. It was perfect!
Love seeing all of your rings and hearing your stories.
DH and I️ met and got engaged in college. I’m from Seattle but went to school out of state. He came to visit over the summer and took me down to a beautiful waterfront area and gave me a scrapbook full of notes we had written each other and a fun pictures of things we had done together. The last page said will you marry me?
I️ am a pretty simple jewelry girl so I love my solitaire. We will have our 10 year anniversary in about a year and a half so I️ May upgrade to something with a bit more bling.
@ivyvines6 LOVE your ring. So beautiful and unique.
@mileswithmyles I think my mom likes my husband more than me now too ha.
@jhysmath I've worn one of those ha. My friend hunts and had one.
@sandbar517 haha that is actually really cute. And you gotta give him props for the breakfast in bed
@MissusTexas beautiful ring. I’m a big fan of emerald cuts.
@attorneyworkproduct the scrapbook idea is so sweet. I don’t know any men that are that crafty or put that much thought into presents. You are a lucky lady!
DH proposed when we were away on a short ski vacation in Vermont. I picked a really cheap motel even though he was suggesting we stay somewhere nicer. I was like, "Why waste money?" I had had a really bad week at work and was crying right before we drove the 6+ hours up to VT. He proposed in the dingy hotel room (put rose petals on the motel bed) before dinner. It was cute, but I wish I had let him pick the nicer hotel ha. (Ring in spoiler)
My hubby proposed on the Ferris wheel on the water front downtown Seattle. Our son was 4 months old at the time, and we got married 2 months later. I wanted a different ring with some color, so this is what he came up with!
I’m trying to “love” posts but my service at work sucksssss! So, I’m trying but trust me.. I love this thread! The stories and rings are awesome! My SO bought my ring two days before we found out I’m pregnant. Whoops! We were sighting in our bows for deer season, and we went to get our bolts (arrows) from the target... he started talking about how he loves that we get to go outdoor stuff together and have fun together, and then boom! He was on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so excited. I love my ring. I told him to pick it out. I didn’t give him a lot of direction, but it’s perfect for me. I can’t wait to get married in March!
DH proposed on a random Monday night (8-31-09). I had been out running errands and walked in the door to find a trail of rose petals and candles. He was in our living room on one knee holding two dozen roses. It was such a simple proposal, but totally us. He definitely surprised me. We went out for an amazing dinner after!
I love my ring. DH chose a Canadian diamond as the center stone which I think is really special.
Eeeekk! I love this thread! @codik86 Your ring looks like mine! I also got married last March! Great minds must think alike!
My husband and I ring shopped together because he honestly wanted to know what I liked and wanted me to have something I loved. We had been dating for about 2 1/2 years before he asked me, which wasn't without me questioning him at least once a week about when he was going to ask. It seemed like everyone around me was getting engaged and hadn't been together as long as us. We went to look at the holiday lights together at a local amusement park. On the way home, I bugged him again about his timeline and he told me he thought he had something in line. When we got home, he asked me again what I wanted for Christmas and I told him he knew what I wanted, to get engaged. I changed, sat on the couch, and turned on the TV. He came downstairs with a box of candy and asked if I wanted a piece. Not one to turn down candy, even at 11 at night, I opened it up. In the middle was the ring box but I thought it was a special case for a chocolate covered cherry or something. Like an idiot I asked him what it was and he said open it and inside was my ring! I look over and he's on one knee and asking me to marry him and I'm freaking out, telling him to shut up, and crying. Completely surprised and absolutely perfect!
My DH proposed to me at a fancy restaurant on a lake after we went on a hayride through the apple orchards. He got down on one knee, said some sweet speech that I can't remember, pulled out the red cardboard box that a ring box would be put in and opened it only to find it was ....empty!!! He then ran out to the car, and came back in saying we had to leave, and go back to the orchard to see if he had dropped it there. He was calling our parents to go look in the yard and in our houses. Finally, with our fancy food all boxed up, we went back to his parents house. He kept looking for the lost ring, and I had a hunch to check the car again. I swiped my hand along the drivers seat and lo and behold, the velvet ring box was right there! It matched the car upholstery perfectly! Victorious, I ran back into his house, where his whole family was hanging out and he immediately got on one knee (again) and proposed, again! It was funny and frustrating and so like our relationship and definitely makes for a fun story!
He picked out the diamond and said I could change the setting. It’s a hearts on fire diamond, so I just wanted to leave it solo. He proposed after recreating our first weekend getaway together.
I actually proposed to my husband. He had said that if I wanted to get married, I’d have to propose. (Still not sure why to this day, but it doesn’t matter). It wasn’t really all that romantic. We had been dating four months. We were watching tv one night and I asked him if he was going to love me forever. He said yes, so then I said “is this where I go get your ring out of my backpack?” He was really surprised. Obviously he said yes.
This meant I got to pick out my own ring so of course I love it. We decided that it looked lopsided with just one wedding band so we opted for 2.

Yours is beautiful too. I love that he incorporated family pieces into it. So special!
@zizzabell523 that’s so cute! I would love a third band.
@MrT723 so cute and sentimental. DH designed mine, too and I love that.
@sandbar517 lol! That is hilarious.
@onesmallcoconut aww! That’s cute!
@theletlers that is an odd item to pass down for that reason.
Also I couldn't find a picture of me in it because I took all the photos, but that's a friend of our who decided he needed to try it on too.
We got married 5 weeks before we moved.
@thedawkterswife The stone is so pretty! What is it?
The only picture I can find right now is one I took the at the hotel on our wedding night.
DH proposed 4 months after we met. I think we both just felt it was right. We got married about a year and a few months later.
We went to the Florida Keys together. We went to dinner and watched the sunset at Mallory Square. We walked around awhile. We sat just watching the boats and water. He said that the week had been perfect but then said it had been almost perfect. We had a fight about something so I thought he was talking about that so I said I was sorry. lol He said it would be perfect if I agreed to be his wife. It was perfect!

@attorneyworkproduct that's a beautiful spot for a proposal. I love Seattle
@silverhope is that a recent picture? I like your manicure!
@holli0801 that is such a pretty picture. Your ring looks so great with your flowers!
I love my ring. DH chose a Canadian diamond as the center stone which I think is really special.
@mmb4532 aw that is such a sweet (literally) proposal!
@mileswithmyles no, sadly. I haven't had my nails done since March

It desperately needs to be cleaned.
