Re: Weekly Questions w/o Nov 12

  • Is anyone who has nausea successfully eating healthy (aka not living off carbs)?  If so, can you share what foods you are finding tolerable?  I need to clean up my eating but I am really struggling here!!
  • Loading the player...
  • For anyone who has had Mat21 / Harmony / Panorama done, how long until we get the results? My blood is being drawn Friday and I was hoping for results by Thanksgiving.
  • @Miz_Liz I was able to eat edamame when my nausea was still in full gear.

  • @marcus7676 I was told less than 10 business days, but when I search online I find that sometimes randomly the labs get backed up and it can take longer. Seems to vary from 4 business days to 15 business days. Currently I'm on business day 6 and still no results. :)
  • @Miz_Liz I am not struggling with nausea this pregnancy, but I tend to get motion sick really easily so I've struggled with nausea sort of my whole life (obv different, but hey, might be similar?). My fav go-to thing if my queasiness won't subside is homemade miso soup with a little bit of fresh grated ginger in it. I prefer to mix red miso with white miso paste. I'm picky about miso pastes, though, so def wouldn't recommend if you don't have a good brand at your grocery store.
  • Had my first appointment last Friday. Baby was measuring 7w4d. They didn’t check my hcg levels within all the blood tests ordered. Has anyone else experienced that? I expected it to be a standard test.
  • @lizetteincalifornia typically beta draws are not done unless there is a previous issue (e.g., miscarriage)
  • @marcus7676 with DD it took the full 10 business days.  My OB’s office said it’s typically quicker now (5 days on average), but I think it definitely depends on how busy the lab is like @doxiemoxie212 said.

Both good food suggestions!!  Thanks @dinodna3 @doxiemoxie212

Ahh ok! Thanks! The nurse didn’t read the paperwork I filled out where I listed a miscarriage 4 years ago. It was interesting that she’s kept filling in “first pregnancy” like on autopilot. I didn’t say anything since I figured it wouldn’t make too much difference.

has anyone's sex drive vanished? If so, when does it come back? I feel like the other times I was pregnant I had a huge increase, although I don't remember when that increase happened. I'm hoping it comes back in the 2nd tri... poor DH, I'm not tired or anything, I just rarely feel like it these last two months... I try for once a week for DH at least lol, I just wish I had my drive back or just wishing that increase would come soon

  • @reikotxm yup! I feel so so bad for DH. but its not pretty. it doesn't help that I still feel not 100% by evening. and then I'm usually passed out on the couch by 930 every.single.night.

  • @reikotxm TBH, neither DH nor I want to have sex lol. We've had sex twice since I ovulated, and I'm 11+2. He's really nervous that sex might aggravate my cervix, and even though that's obviously fine, if I spotted he'd FREAK out, and I probably would too. At some point soon, though, we should probably start making more of an effort to bang, though... le sigh. Hopefully my libido will kick in 2nd tri and I won't have to worry about it.
  • @reikotxm - DH and I get frisky probably 4-6 times a week since our BFP.  We were 7/7 before. Even if I'm not in the mood I do anyway because afterwards I'm always in a better mood, it helps me fall asleep and feel more connected to DH. It's like going to the gym,  I'm always glad I went after. The only reason we're doing it less now is sometimes DH waits to long to go to bed and I've fallen asleep waiting for him.
  • I was trying to keep us to once a week even though I didn't really feel like it. Then MH hurt his back and of course that was when I really wanted it. We tried yesterday morning and because it had been probably two weeks or more he didn't last very long so it was kind of pointless for me.

I'm a little irritated because I think he feels like I have to be the one to initiate it because I'm usually the deciding factor but I wouldn't say no if he started things off.

  • @krashke ah, the vicious cycle. Same struggle over here: we go so long without sex, so then I sort of stop wanting it, so then I muster up the energy to just do it anyway, then it doesn't last long because it's been such a long time since we've done it, and then I'm like meh, not interested in doing this again.

Plus, DH hates the idea of "convincing" me to have sex, so he won't really initiate it. But if I initiate it, he assumes that means I AM READY TO GO, which is not the case; it means I am ready to be ready to have sex lol. So then it becomes this frustration of, why are you initiating this thing you're not ready at all to do. Sigh.

I just need to suck it up through the less-than-stellar getting back into things phase, but ugh, sleep is wonderful.
  • @miz_liz I've been battling nausea and loss of appetite and eating way too many carbs, but my DH makes me a smoothie in the morning that I can get down pretty easy.  It's frozen strawberries and blueberries, almonds or cashews, a couple bananas, a few good handfuls of baby spinach, flax seed, and water.  It's got a good amount of healthy fat, no dairy, and is really easy on the stomach.

@galactickates I'm the same way.  I'm not always "in the mood" but I will still initiate because I will eventually get in the mood and I just feel so much better emotionally afterwards.  I need that closeness with my DH.  But we have been doing it less because I just get so tired.  I'm trying to make more of an effort to not wait until bedtime because then I just want to sleep.

@krashke I've had like 10 talks with my DH about me always having to initiate!  Same reason, I'm the deciding factor.  He said he's always in the mood so it's like I can "pretend" he's always initiating... except it doesn't work like that!  Men.

  • @doxiemoxie212 ugh I know! And maybe TMI but MH wont do anything for himself so if we don't have sex then he wont last long. I'm trying to convince him that it's he should do it on his own on the in between.

It doesn't help that I'm so bloated that I don't feel sexy in the least. And every time we have done it since the BFP I wonder if he is thinking about the fact that our child is in there and then I lose all focus and I'm not an easy nut to crack so that pretty much means I'm done. Then I just want him to get it over with so I can shower.

So I guess long those lines anyone have any suggestions on how to feel sexy and in the mood while pregnant? I assume it will only go down from here.

  • @RatParade what an awesome idea!  I don’t know why smoothies didn’t even cross my mind!
  • @krashke oh, DH will do solo time, but he's such an efficiency person that I don't think that helps anything; I think it just trains his body to GET THIS DONE ASAP! lol lol

As far as feeling sexy, I don't usually need to feel sexy or not sexy. But I know when I feel bloated I just feel generally gross and uncomfortable which would definitely dampen the mood. So I would say try to figure out if there's a way to minimize the bloat! I usually feel better if I take high quality probiotics, drink a lot of water and try to avoid sodium...? But honestly it's doing less and less to help as this pregnancy goes on lol. Or maybe different positions would be easier? Like spoons?
  • @krashkeI feel the same (not sexy) with my bloat (and baggy lounge clothes lol), and I haven't mentioned it to MH, but he's actually made a habit of cupping my belly with his hand when we're intimate and it just totally transformed my self image.   He knows what's going on in there, and he likes it.  I imagine it's sort of a possessive thing he's doing, and honestly that sort of thing always gets me in the mood :#

  • @krashke - I know what helps me, is if I'm not feeling good about myself,  I have DH light a candle for light or turn lights off altogether.  I'll put on one of those short camis. DH loves the lace and by the time things get going you can just peel it off or leave it on.

DH's new fear is hurting me.  Certain  positions have been hurting lately.
  • Thank you @doxiemoxie212 @RatParade @galactickates for the tips. I think the main thing is I probably just need to communicate with MH and tell him that I need him to initiate more and maybe romance me a little.

also, @doxiemoxie212 I think my La Croix addiction might be causing some of the bloat issues. I have probably two a day and one usually either with or after dinner  :'(

  • @krashke oh no! I had a la croix the other night (I love them too), and I was SO EFFING BLOATED! I looked 6 months pregnant in the mirror. It was so uncomfortable. I'm sad about it, but I am not drinking those anymore lol.
  • @krashke - I looooove La Croix, I remember being told to avoid them before my wedding because of bloating. They're just so good!  We have at minimum 3 different flavors at all times at our house,  most of the time more. The best was mixing LaCroix with cheap wine.  You avoid hang overs and you've got a spritzer now.  I really miss wine

    @katykat03 I haven't wanted any maternity specific clothing but that... I actually want/need!  <3

We were out this weekend at the closing of a brewery. They had EVERY barrel tapped. Everyone kept saying "you can have a sip"  No! I am saving my sips for wine!
  • I had a microscopic sip of MH's gross Campari drink last night and I'm so mad at myself for wasting a sip like that!

  • @krashke this is my 4th pregnancy and my sex drive/ ability to stay awake long enough to have sex with DH has been different every time.  But 2nd trimester is when most women feel their best during pregnancy- and many in my last BMB even felt a spike in desire.  As for not feeling sexy- try not to let that get in the way.  When I was in the 3rd trimester DH kept saying how attractive he found me.  He said it turned him on the bigger I got - but that he wasn't attracted to other pregnant women, there was something about knowing I was carrying HIS child that made me more attractive.  I'm sure there is some psych explanation for it- about the male brain adopting during pregnancy to keep the couple together.

@galactickates I want that shirt too!  I have been so nauseous, but when out to dinner with friends Friday night I wanted their wine sooo bad.  It was the first craving I've had since my BFP.

  • @Miz_Liz This is sorta borderline healthy but I can still do omlettes most of the time. And I'm OK with some soups like Broccoli Chedder. I know those are still kinda calorie bombs but at least they have some nutritional value also and aren't pure carbs. The other night I was able to do Salmon with Califlower with cheese as a side. I think I did need to take a Zofran to eat dinner that night though. I have found carbs to be the easiest to tolerate and I can generally eat simple carbs without taking something for nausea before hand.

@lizetteincalifornia My doctor ordered blood work when I had my 8 week ultrasound done and they took several vials of blood but they did not check my hCG levels. I think generally hCG levels aren't checked unless there is some special situation. For example if baby were measuring really far behind or you were having a lot of bleeding then they may check hCG and do a followup hCG check in a few days just to make sure your levels are showing a healthy progressing pregnancy. I'm fairly certain checking hCG isn't part of the standard blood work.

@reikotxm I typically have a really high sex drive where I want sex pretty much every day. When I was pregnant with my son my sex drive just totally vanished though. I think I wanted sex maybe twice my entire pregnancy. I kept hearing people say "oh it comes back once you're not so exhausted and nauseated!" but it didn't. I heard that it would come back in the 2nd trimester but it didn't. I heard that a lot of ladies get frisky during the 3rd trimester but I never really did. It's just kinda different for everyone. Your sex drive might come back soon or it might come back way down the line. Or, ya know, you could be like me and it could not come back till after you've given birth. Sorry. I wish I had a more clear answer and better news. The good news is that sex drive doesn't seem to be the same for each pregnancy. This time around I've had a decent sex drive. It hasn't been as high as normal since I feel sick and I'm exhausted. But I'm still good having sex every couple of days.

  • Hi, has anyone used the fetal doppler at home to monitor the baby's heart?  My girlfriend did and I want one but I am a bit skeptical.  I am 10+3.
  • @tudalu2516 I use one in the beginning when I need some reassurance (basically until I can feel the baby move) and my doctor knows I have it. And I don’t use it often. Maybe every other week. It definitely takes some practice “finding” your baby though so if you get one don’t panic if you can’t find your baby right away
  • @boymama29 Thanks! Yeah its really just for reassurance.  Any helpful hints to finding the bay easier?
  • @tudalu2516 in all honesty I watched a ton of YouTube videos of other people doing it to try to get a hint of what to do and that helped me so much!
  • Hi guys! Have any of you STMs+ had experience with Baby Nurses? I was just talking to a friend of mine (who did not get a baby nurse, but suggests I get one) that they get booked months to years in advance in NYC, so I'm starting my research early. I'd love to hear pros and cons. I'm leaning heavily toward having one, since I'm carrying twins, but would really appreciate hearing other opinions.

  • Is anyone else Rh negative on second pregnancy? I had a mc in April and was given rhogam shot then but I’m now 7w4d and they haven’t mentioned getting the shot again. Is this normal or should I be calling to confirm?
  • @sheswifty you won't need the shot this pregnancy unless you bleed at all, or later in pregnancy. I also had 2 losses in the past year. I got the shot during those losses but none this time around yet.
