Anybody else eat a little cleaner on the days before an OB appointment and a little (or a lot) worse after a weigh-in? Confession: after my appt yesterday morning, I had pizza for lunch, fast food for dinner and cookies for dessert. I am like a pregnant boxer.

@lindsye that would totally be me. I follow IIFYM and try and keep it consistent and fit my treats in but I definitely have off days they are most certainly not usually timed before my OB appts.
the man cold here is in full effect. I had sore lymph nodes and throat sun-tuesday. SO started complaining tuesday he was feeling sore and its all been downhill since. I strategically fell asleep on the couch the last two nights. I might as well start shopping for grave stones.
@lindsye Haha, very accurate. However, I'm relaxing a little more on the subject. This being my first child and inheriting my Dad's genes of gaining weight easily, I have been nervous about "blowing up" during pregnancy. I totally blew the first trimester...no exercise, horrible eating habits. I read an article the other day that said gaining up to 5 pounds the first tri and 1 pound/week during second is good weight gain. I gained 3-4 during my first tri and when I went back on Wednesday...3 weeks into my second tri, I hadn't gained any weight. I was so relieved, but I've been cutting back on sugar and working out more. I felt a lot better after I got off the scale lol and ate m&m's after.
@lindsye I definitely try to be “good” before my doctors appointments. Mainly because my last OB (who I don’t go to anymore) made me VERY self conscious about my weight.
He he told me i needed to work on MY “push backs”. i asked him what that meant.
He said “you know ‘pushing yourself back from the table’”.
So he thought I was fat and eating too much. Thanks, dude.
@mikkimikey WHAT THE HELL?? What a crappy doctor! Glad you don't see him anymore, that's a horrible thing to say to ANY patient let alone a pregnant one!
@mikkimikey fun! All coming from a man who has never experienced pregnancy and clearly is not the least bit sensitive to the issues surrounding it. I bet switching OBs was an absolute no-brainer after that.
@scuba_chic I also have been trying to make better eating choices after gaining several pounds quickly early second tri - basically when I no longer felt nauseous all the time. I will say this, though: I have gained close to the exact same amount every pregnancy (35ish pounds). Pregnancy #3, I was bound and determined to gain less; I worked out regularly and was more conscious of my food consumption. In the end, I gained the exact same amount and I just had to come to the conclusion that that is the amount my body needs to gain to have a healthy pregnancy.

@lindsye I've heard that from other people too -- the same mom eating super clean and working out vs. "letting it all go" during your pregnancy and gaining the same amount in the end. I think our bodies have a kind of set point for what they need and will arrange fro the right amount of weight gain, within reason. I also think there is a basis for our cravings and aversions, and if all you want to eat is carbs, you probably need them! Follow your instincts and it will all work out ladies The weight gain thing is already so emotionally loaded and fraught with anxiety, and shitty doctors like @mikkimikey's are the worst.
I lied to my child today to get her to wear her tennis shoes to daycare instead of of her dress up sparkly princess shoes that have a small heel on them.
FFFC - I've checked out at work. I know I only have to make it to April and then I will be leaving this position to do my internship to become a registered dietitian. We've just had 4 people quit, including one that was a new hire here for not even a month and it's hard to care about this job anymore. The work environment has been getting increasingly stressful and unpleasant and if I didn't already have an exit plan I would be coming up with one where I get out of here sooner!
All I want/can think about are sandwiches!! Like straight up cold cut sandwiches. I've had a few......but like when it comes to food it's all I can think about. I asked my doc and she was like your good. Just don't go somewhere sketchy. Last pregnancy all I wanted were sour gummy worms, I half expected that. I feel guilty everytime I have a sandwich, but I feel sooo good after I eat it.
@JJMNO1616 my school has a preselect program so its not OFFICIAL official yet but fx I will be starting my internship in July! I guess I have to stay at least partially checked in until it's official
@bchalm cold cut sandwiches are literally all I want in the world for the past 4ish months. Like I just want a huge turkey sando and for the world to leave me alone. My doc said absolutely no cold cuts and I'm trying to follow her guidelines but god help me I'm so close.
We are supposed to be having a date night tonight (grandparents took the kid for a sleepover), and instead of a dinner and movie, or going to a party, I have convinced my DH that I feel too sick from a mild cold, and just want an evening on the couch. I am not even sorry.
In my defense, I think we will go out to eat breakfast somewhere. Or something. I suck at date night.
Why can’t we all just be billionaires having this convo on various beaches throughout the world? Not really a FFFC but it sure would be nice to complain about tan lines and the temperature of our mocktails instead of the crap we put up with on the daily, amiright? Ugh.

@bchalman italian hoagie is one of 2 things that make me happy right now. An antipasto plate is the other. At least you asked your doc...I'm just eating.
@bchalm It was x-ray tech week so we got free lunches all week. 2 of the days were wraps and subs. H kept "reminding" me I'm not supposed to have any lunchmeat (I usually don't, but will on occasion), but I ate them anyway (they were only halves) and they were so good lol.

Oh ok, I don't know much about pre select programs. I was just curious because one of my friend is a RD but it took her a realllly long time to finally get an internship. She went back to school and completed her Masters degree before she finally got the internship that she needed but luckily that is all behind her now!
@beach_mama@psuxray07 so happy I'm not the only one cheating lol if I could gif I'd find one of Garfield dreaming of lasagna, cause thats how I feel with these sammies.
@lindsye I don't really like raw sushi, I typically only eat cooked. So, that restriction isn't that tempting. Which I'm thankful for, I don't need any more temptations.

@bchalm - my very first appointment with my first pregnancy was with a brand new nurse practitioner to the practice. She was very young and VERY by the book. We were going through all the do’s and dont’s as far as food, and sushi came up (which was a big no-no for her, to nobody’s surprise). I asked her about cooked sushi, and she said nope, not even cooked sushi. I was really skeptical and asked why, and she said “umm, well because of the seaweed.”
LiterallY could not have rolled my eyes any harder. I’ve only had her two more times over all my pregnancies, but each time I find myself taking her a little less seriously than I probably should. Freaking seaweed...really??
ETA: for the record, I’m ok with raw sushi during pregnancy. It’s so good and I can’t give it up entirely!
@kmalls seriously?!?! Like at some point it's just ridiculous.I say go with your gut and don't be silly!! Cause I also read chicken salad is another chance of Listeria. At this point, Listeria is everywhere!! Run for our pregnant lives Ahhhhhhhhhh lol
@kmalls that is ridiculous. The only somewhat valid reason I've heard against eating cooked sushi is possible cross-contamination with the raw fish since it's all made in the same space. That doesn't stop me from eating it, but the seaweed thing is insane.
@bchalm the chicken salad makes me insane too! At my first Appt I was like ok, well no cold cuts and no tuna but at least I still have chicken salad!! The NP nixed that one too unless I heat it up to steaming. The idea of having hot chicken salad makes my stomach turn. For the record I've eaten both chicken salad and tuna salad during my pregnancy because like what other options do I even have!?!?!?
@frenchiekinplusone hot chicken salad sounds terrible!! I just had a chicken salad croissant from Le Madeleine last night. It was amazing. I just love all sandwiches right now.
ekendall09 LOL I have been calling my cold a man cold as well. Too funny.
My FFFC- My husband and daughter are off hunting and I am exhausted from a crazy work week and my man cold. Tonight's mommy + youngest DD bonding is brought to you by Netflix and Shimmer and Shine game app I just downloaded and bought her.

@JJMNO1616 my school guarantees seats into the internship if you meet their qualifications THANK GOODNESS. The match rate nationally is a measly 50%. I handed in my application on Saturday and the internship director said not to worry about the interview piece so fingers crossed! I'll know for sure by the first week of December.
@itsrandiyo previous to pregnancy I spent the year before competing in bodybuilding. My metabolism took a pretty big hit from the nature of dieting to achieve the level of body fat in order to be competitive. I did alot of research knowing I wanted to try and get pregnant following my last show and wanted to not only get my metabolism restored, but increase my intake gradually (reverse diet). I found a group of coaches (a couple of which are moms too) that are all certified and I work with them weekly to adjust my macros accordingly. I've been working with them for almost 8 months now. I check in weekly with pictures, weight and feedback and we adjust weekly.
@itsrandiyo I got my period back 2 months after my last competition and was able to track my ovulation from there. We waited until my cycles were more normal to try. and YES i am with ADO! love them
