I've been feeling pretty good this last week but I get tires/winded so quickly now. I guess baby boy is moving up into my lungs. I took off last Friday for a mental health day with DH and I'm so glad I did! So much more relaxed today.
I need to do that. I've been thinking about it for awhile now! I need to just book a day off and enjoy it.
Doing pretty well over here. I think a mental health day sounds pretty awesome! My next scheduled PTO is just before our shower because people are coming into town, but maybe I'll sneak in one more day.
Congrats @chucksmom15! Our next long weekend isn't until 11/10 and it feels so far away. It's also the date of my next OB appt, which isn't helping it feel any closer...
@karcerplus3 My dad & I walk several mornings a week and I noticed today that I got winded more easily. I also feel like my belly grew over the weekend so I guess my lungs are a little more squished now.
I also feel like my belly "popped" over the weekend. I was looking at myself in the mirror in and out of clothes like, "wait what?" and thinking, 'it's just going to keep getting bigger... [deep breath]'
Is anyone else changing from monthly appointments to appointments every two weeks soon?? My OB said after my appointment in November I will start going every two weeks due to my AMA status.
@fatted_calf I walk Chuck every morning and I am starting to get winded quickly too. We don't walk fast either.
@chucksmom15 I have to go into Maternal Fetal every 3 weeks to keep tabs of the GD/baby growth, then upping it to 2x a week starting last week of Nov. So looking forward to that. Just typing that reminded me of why I shouldn't take a random mental health day to save up PTO lol. I think my regular OB is still monthly til Dec though, but will confirm after my Nov appt.

I start every two weeks around Thanksgiving. I love constantly being reminded of how "old" I am ;p
I haven't been told that by my OB, but I also see MFM so I see a Dr every 2 weeks anyway, I probably will have frequent appointments due to age, gestational diabetes, a cerclage and borderline high blood pressure
I'm trying to save as much PTO as I can since my maternity leave is unpaid. I can use 6 weeks of sick time, but the other 6 weeks are unpaid which totally sucks. I'll only take a few days here and there for the holidays until I deliver.
I do have some vacation/PTO time to use, but don't want to use all the days since I want to save some vacation days in the summer!
@jennifer_m21 Yeah after hearing what Canadians get (a year right?) I wish I had a better maternity policy. FMLA is unpaid besides STD (60% of salary) or using my PTO (I'll have about 4-5 weeks). The only thing that I'm really hoping for is being able to get hours from my company's PTO bank. Except there's another pregnant lady here who's due next month who'll do the same thing, so hopefully there are LOTS of hours in the bank.
@jennifer_m21 Yeah I love that they have that... I lost my "in" with HR to know how many hours were in there (friend left the co) so I'm hoping there are plenty of hours to spare come Feb/Mar because I'd really prefer to not go unpaid haha. We definitely want to to have some PTO for later in the year for small vacations!
So speaking of vacations... my mom is convinced I'm not gonna travel at all w/ a newborn that first year. Is that even realistic? Do people just hole up after they have a kid and never leave home? She's an airlines person and wants to take away my flight benefits next year cuz she says I won't travel!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who is going to the two week schedule.
I am super lucky on my ML. Because I just made my 5 year anniversary, I get 6 weeks paid at 100%. I am using a week of sick time to get a 7th week paid. The other 5 weeks will be unpaid but we have been saving for that. I have more PTO but I want to save it for after I come back to work so I can stay home if he gets sick.
I hope there is time left for you in the bank @clc515. When can you find out?? A friend of mine took her 6 month old to Hawaii last year. I think you just have to wait until they have certain vaccinations.
@clc515 I plan to stay low key for the first couple of months but I can't imagine no travel for an entire year. We've talked about whether our annual beach trip will be do-able next summer and how different it will have to be but so far we're still planning to go.
I have to say it makes me tired to even think about flying with a baby so I'm not sure I'll be up for that until the kid is much older. Easy for me to say though b/c all of our family lives within an hour's drive and my husband refuses to fly so I doubt I'll have much need anytime soon.
Thanks that makes me feel better. I mean it's not like we'd be flying to Australia for a month... but I'd like to take the 2 hr flight (vs 11 hour drive) to see my brother once or twice (we usually fly up for my nephew's bday). I don't know why my mom thinks I'm never going to leave home!

We can actually take up to 18 months now. You only get paid (a percentage of your normal pay via employment insurance) for 12 months, so either you take the 12 or it's 18 with the pay spread out. It's pretty nice! I can't imagine what you guys have to do to take off the little bit of time you can and then go back so soon.

My best friend just flew with her 3 month old. It's a lot more work, but if you want to see family/friends elsewhere, you do what you gotta do!
My husband is in the military so we always have to travel to see family. Both my kids had flown before they were 3 months old (my second was only 6 weeks). I put them in a carrier to keep people away from them and hoped for the best. The logistics of traveling with kids is a challenge, but very doable.
I had my appointment this morning and my next is in four weeks. Actually almost five because of thanksgiving. I posted this in randoms but they are sending me to a perinatologist tomorrow. After two anatomy scans, they still can't get all the views of LO's brain they want. Hopefully all goes well tomorrow and they give me results. Would absolutely pitch a full on fit if I had to wait.
@jessilee15 When you put them in a carrier, like an infant carrier and did you buy an extra seat, or a front/body carrier thing?
I did a front carrier, with him facing in. So no one could get in his face without being inappropriately close to my chest. And I had his arms and legs covered so they couldn’t touch his hands. It worked pretty well - that’s also what I did when we had extended family around I didn’t all want holding him. Or if they asked I would say he was hungry and leave to feed him. He was a November baby and I didn’t want every one touching him
At my appointment today every question or concern i brought up with my doctor was answered with a response of that I'm older now then when i was last pregnant (almost 8 years ago), and that it's to be expected.
Back from the perinatologist. Everything looks good. I feel so much better!
Possible TW... He said the chance of still birth gets higher in women over 40. So starting about 32 to 34 weeks, they typically do a scan twice a week! He said sometimes at my regular OB, but sometimes once with my OB and once with the perinatologist. My OB mentioned more frequent visits towards the end, but that's more than I was expecting.
@olitwinturbosnprincess I'm glad everything is looking good! I hadn't heard about scans 2x/week over 40. I do know I will have to go in once a week and have non-stress tests, too. Maybe that is the 2nd scan/week that he was talking about?
My MFM did tell me to expect more frequent scans from here on but in my case it's because they're watching to see if the septum continues to move like it needs to. He didn't mention higher stillbirth rates to me but maybe he figured it wasn't necessary since I'd be there either way.
My OB hasn't mentioned anything about extra scans or non-stress tests. I was told one more US to check growth but that's it. I know my office is a bit laid back, which is why I like them, but now I'm starting to wonder if I should be asking for more?
Do we want to start a November thread or merge with the high risk thread that started earlier this week? I don't want to be redundant since I think a good number of us fall into the high risk category but I've enjoyed having this AMA thread. Thoughts?
Re: 35 and Over Moms - October
I need to do that. I've been thinking about it for awhile now! I need to just book a day off and enjoy it.
@chucksmom15 Hooray!! That's great news!
Edited because grammar is hard.

Thinking about maternity leave makes me annoyed.

Baby's kicking away though, and up til now I was enjoying my energy return, so that's great. :-)
