Re: New Baby Name Thread

  • @Ceridwen21 I think Talia is okay to use!

@MrsPrice519 I think of her as well!  She certainly made for entertaining TV.

I may may want to bring up to DH using my mom’s maiden name for a middle name. I don’t speak with my dad so I don’t have any attachment to my maiden name and I’m very close with my mom
    and her parents.

  • @justsuzie I do too!  But our boy name is set.

  • @Ceridwen21 I like all your names except azalea.

@justsuzie I'm bummed that Mimi was vetoed! I'm not a fan of Amity either.

I was in the tub in labor with DD2 and DH was reading the baby name book and we were debating. She wasn't named until the last second checking out of the hospital. My friends Didn't agree on a name for their son until a week later. Doesn't make me think about it less...
  • my phone is being strange when I try to scroll up and find the person to tag, but whoever suggested Willow or is thinking about Willow, I am so in love with that name!! I would use it if I could, but our last name has 2 L's and a W and it would be way too much.

For a boy, Julian seems to be the front runner as of right now. I thought about the spelling Julien instead which is French and our daughter has a French name. I think -an might be better though since that is how most people know it.

For a girl, I love Everly. H likes it, but isn't completely sold. It flows great with our 2 other girls. H likes Shay.

  • You ladies have some wonderful name ideas!  I'm actually dreading having the name talk with DH.  DS is the fourth so naming him was super easy.  Nicknames were tricky, but came naturally once he was born.

This time around won't be so easy.  DH's family has a rule for male children.  The first is the next in line for #, which is why DS was the fourth, but all other boys must have a J name.  In the family we already have Justin, Joshua, Jonathon, Jeffrey, John, and Jason.  DH likes James, but I knew a James (went by Jimmy and I dislike that NN) and he was hyper and annoying!  I can't get that image out of my head!  Part of me hopes this baby is a girl so we have flexibility in the name and I can name her after someone in MY family.  I'm going to have a serious "we need to think about breaking this J name tradition" talk if it's a boy.  I let the family name continue because I get wanting to carry on the family name.  The J name thing I don't really understand.  Maybe it won't be an issue?!

  • @abbykm7 what about Leander for a Boy?

@Ceridwen77 I love Talia! ;) a few of your names were ones on my list. Talia & Iris were both there because of my love of comics. Talia is the mother of Batmans son! :P sorry, my inner geek is coming out. Just love it!
  • Just found this thread so I will add here that although we don't know the sex yet, our Girl name is Ember. Middle name will mostly be Jolee, it's a mix of my middle name and SO's late grandpas. Jo+lee. Though i like the middle name Jude as well for a girl. SO prefers Jolee, and yes we need it to be a J name and preferably family related. A boy name is totally eluding me. I don't like his pick much cuz it lacks simplicity. And he prefers it to my pick. So we are still throwing around boy names till we find something that fits. Boy middle name will probably be Jacob.

Sounds like we are in the same boat. I like Jordan for a boy. My friend named her baby Jasper.

Thank you everyone for the L suggestions and keep them coming!
  • Everly and Julian are on my list too! <3

  • Ugh, this time around is SO HARD. We were set on Remy with our first regardless of gender and so that's our son's name. I've been keeping a note in my phone of names that stick out to me, but haven't really vetted with the hubs until we know gender. Nothing seems like "the one" on either side yet though.

Girl: Rowan, Freya, Emilia, Everly/Ever, Mira, Rory
Boy: Bowie, Ellis, Milo, Calvin, and Julian

  • Our boy name last time was Lincoln James. DH still loves it, but I’m not sure if I do. No other boy names on the list right now.

I have no idea what we will do if we have another girl. I like Maeve, Felicity, and Adeline. DD is Reagan Evelyn after our two grandmothers.

Luckily we have until our A/S in January to compile a better list.
  • We're team green same as last pregnancy so we're sticking with our girl name of Makenna Marie (or McKenna, can't decide on a spelling) and we already have a Cameron so if it's a boy I'm pretty sure we're going with Connor Paul.
DH  wanted Colin for a boy, but then was like, but people will think we named him after Colin kapernick (I know I just butchered that spelling, oh well) and I was like, yeah they might, but inside I was just like yay, because I hate that name.
  • @meggles816 - great minds think alike! I have thought about a lot of the same names you listed!!

LOVE Rowan, it was on my list but my cousin just got a puppy and named him Rowan so I obviously can't use it now, bummer.

Ellis is on my list too! My DH is set on Julian though.

    Love your list
  • For a girl I like Amelia Juanita. We'll probably call her Mia, which means "mine" and is sometimes used as a nickname for Amelia.

Juanita is NOT my fave name by far, but it was my grandma's name and I kind of like how it sounds with Amelia so it's growing on me. We have a tradition of naming girls with family names in my family.

The only problem is that I wanted to avoid popular names. And Amelia and Mia are both pretty popular.

For a boy, I like all names. Literally all names. I can't decide.
  • Beverly is a nice name...old fashion but sweet.
  • If you're leaning towards an Irish name already, Liam, why not try another option:
    Loughlan (pronounced lock-lan)
    Lorcan meaning fierce
    Luan meaning warrior (pronounced Loo-an)

  • @tacosandvirginmargaritas Willow was in my list! I really like the name, but I have a sneaking suspicion my husband will not be a fan. Everly is very pretty!

@Kendrajos that is such a cool fact about the name Talia!! We are total geeks too so that makes it really cool. I bet my H knows that!

@meggles816 isn’t Rowan a masculine name? I’ve actually been considering it for my boys list.
  • I like Willow and there is a toddler girl in my playgroup named Willa which I also fine super cute.
  • Just realized I posted in the old thread so I am copying my post over here...
My husband is from a big Italian family and there are so many repeats with names. I fought my husband on naming our son after him and his father until the pregnancy hormones kicked in and I got sentimental. Francis Peter the third it is and we call him Frankie. Luca Francis was our other option.
Now we aren’t as set on Luca as we were last time. It was a compromise because I love Luke or Lucas and my husband didn’t. Robert will most likely be the middle name if it is a boy. I like more trendy names for a boy but those have all been strongly vetoed. So we will either do more traditional/biblical or Italian.
Samuel, Noah, Gabriel, Salvatore nn Sal, Lorenzo nn Enzo, Giovanni, really the list is long and we are waiting to find out gender

girls names are easy Olivia or Gabriella unsure about middle but something from the family
  • It's official. We're having a girl.

    Middle name will be Sage.

How many side eyes will I get if we name her Troian (Troy-an)? Nn Troy

  • @sandbar517and @JNCPro3130 I didn't even think of that until I googled to show how to type the pronunciation.

  • @heelsidehero i haven't heard that name before, not my style either.  it kinda seems masculine to me.  so you may get a few side eyes.
  • @abbykm7 I was going to suggest Lochlan as well. I really love that name. Regarding popularity, my oldest has the most popular  name from the year he was born and he has never had another one in his whole daycare center. My other son has a name that's top 100 but near the bottom of the 100 and there have been 3 of them there. I don't know if it's regional or luck of the draw (not that top 100 is rare by any means), but you may never have to worry about it. I try to just pick names I love because I'm the one who has to scream it at them all day :-)

We haven't really talked names and I am tapped out on boy names...no clue what we will do then. We've also never seriously discussed girls names since we only have boys so I don't really know where DH stands. I've been really liking Maeve lately but not sure I like it with our last name because some letters/sounds are really similar to me. I'll run it past my other baby name obsessive friend if we find out baby is a girl.

  • @heelsidehero I also read that as Trojan at first. Not my style but I like Sage for the middle name
