  • Update: my appointment didn't go too well today.  Let me start by saying that I've always felt the tech at the OB measures the babies differently than the tech at the MFM, making it seem like one of the babies is a lot bigger and one is a lot smaller.  While I know they have always been different (at 28 weeks one was 2lbs12oz and one was 2lbs5oz), today there was a huge different at the OB.  Baby A is measuring 5lbs8oz and Baby B is measuring 3lbs6oz.  The OB was concerned with the difference, and said the main issue is Baby B, who had been steadily in the 30th percentile, is now starting to not grow at that same rate.  I go to the MFM for an ultrasound on Thursday (I'm doing them twice a week now) so I'm interested to see how they measure there.  But the OB is concerned about when we should have the c-section based on the safety of the babies.  I'm just super worried about the weight difference.  They are di/di and both have their own placenta, so one baby is not stealing from the other.  Also, my BP was up (140/80) and it's been around 116/70 since they put me on medicine at 9 or so weeks).  So they are also running pre-e labs.  I'm just hoping everything is ok.

  • @beary67 oh hun I am so sorry today's appointment was scary. I will say we had a similar problem with baby B measuring much smaller than baby A but thankfully it was a short term thing and she caught up and even by the end via ultrasound measurements was measuring 8 oz more than baby A. I will also say that later term US measurements are NOTORIOUSLY off in terms of how much they weigh.. the weight guesstimates can be off by more than a pound in either direction. I know your going to be a hot mess until you meet with MFM ( I was until we knew B was growing better), please come vent here any time or PM me. So many hugs lady, I hope Baby B is just waiting for a growth spurt.

  • @wabash15 thanks for your kind words  <3 Baby B has always measured behind Baby A, so I am hoping he can catch up a little bit! Your situation helped ease my nerves a bit!  Thanks, love!  I'll keep you all updated.

Also, the tech told me to drink diet coke last time I was there for when I had a biophysical profile.  So I did, and they they scored an 8/8 within a few minutes instead of needing to wait the entire 30 minutes to get their score.  However, then my BP was higher than normal.  Well I just took it at home and it's 110/73.  So I googled if caffeine can increase BP, and the first article was from the Mayo Clinic which said it can.  So I'm wondering if that is what impacted my BP.  It's the only time the entire pregnancy I've had caffeine.  I will wait for my pre-e labs to come back tomorrow to be sure.  Just something I found interesting...

  • @beary67 I'm sorry the Appt didn't go well. I agree with @wabash15 in that the OB's measurements are notoriously off. I hope the MFM appt this week shows they are wrong and that your BP remains steady and that labs come back showing no sign of pre-e. Thinking of you!

  • @beary67 Prayers and positive thoughts for you and your babies. I totally understand how you are feeling because I have the same issue with my baby girl (A). My SIL is an L&D nurse and she told me to try not to worry because size differences are common with twins. FXed there's no pre-e!

@wabash15 Thanks for asking! I'm doing OK. I had an ultrasound today and the babies are OK too. Baby girl's cord blood flow hasn't changed (which is good because it hasn't slowed down any more). She is still small, but growing. She's 2 lbs 8 oz and baby boy is 3 lbs 14 oz. I will continue to be monitored twice a week.
  • @clovelyone so glad you had a good check up and that baby girl is growing. Some of them are just little peanuts.
@beary67 caffeine can affect BP and if you haven't had any all pregnancy it may have had a bigger effect on you. I know that when I have a full caf beverage I feel it... even half calf can be too much some times when I have gone a long time with out caffeine.

  • @beary67 I'm sorry your appointment didn't go as well as you'd hoped. Do you think it's possible that your BP could have been up because you were nervous about the appointment? Also, have you been sick at all? I know I had one OB visit a couple of months ago when I had a cold and I was stressed because I'd run late due to traffic and my BP was way higher than any time before or after that. Hope your LO starts growing and you get some better results at the MFM. I'm thinking of you!

@clovelyone I'm glad your baby girl is doing okay. I'm thinking of you too!

I've got a growth scan at the MFM tomorrow, so I'll check in with you guys to let you know how it goes.

  • Thanks everyone for your support!  I really appreciate it!!

@leilagphillips I definitely think I was nervous because I had just found out, via ultrasound, that Baby B weighed 2lbs+ less than Baby A.  So I knew that wasn't good.  Plus the caffeine...I think it all really impacted me.  I'm still waiting for my pre-e labs to come back now.

  • @beary67 Sorry your Appt didn’t go well. That’s something that every twin Mom dreads - the weight difference. As @wabash15 said, those late scans are notorious for being inaccurate with weight.  And your BP could definitely have been affected by the caffeine. I hope everything works out for the best and that this was just a series of annoying mishaps.  Hopefully your baby can catch up and put on some more pounds. Know that you’re doing everything you can to make sure they’re safe and happy in there!  Hugs lady :)
  • And @clovelyone Im so happy to hear that babygirl is doing well!  Great news!
