  • RE: babymoons - DH came down with the flu the day before we were due to leave and it was cancelled. We never got to make up the trip and I'm still a little bitter four years later.

    Take the babymoon.

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.

  • @sparklingdiamond & @stalkinghorse - add me to the list. Fortunately DH hates them too  ;) At least on pizza they’re usually easy to pick off.

  • I have a complicated relationship with mushrooms.  I think that they add depth and umami to a lot of dishes if they are used as an accent.  However, taken at face value by themselves, they taste like what I imagine licking a crazy hermit's bare foot would

  • My UO, I actually loved my baby friendly hospital with DS. Yes it was exhausting but I didn’t want that kid out of my sight and I feel like it made me way less anxious those first few days at home because we had been through a few nights already. I did breastfeed (still am) and it was definitely important for me to be able to try constantly and have lactation consultant and nurses there to help.

    I also love babymoons.

As for a push present— I think they’re silly but I’m asking for food this time around. I was STARVING after I gave birth to DS and having hospital food after 22 hours in labor was the worst.
  • My other UO: I LOVE mushrooms!  :D

  • Yes to Greys!! And @sparklingdiamond I also hate mushrooms
  • @frenchiekinplusone yes to Grey's! And after not being allowed to eat all day while waiting to have DD, that turkey and cheese sandwich post delivery was the best I ever had! I wasn't ashamed that I asked the nurse for another  :D

  • @kmalls and @ngolimento I don’t judge moms who utilize the nursery or need a break at all! I purposely talked about my experience because I know my experience isn’t the same as others. It was right for me but I certainly don’t assume it’s right for everyone and frankly I also know that even though it was right for me last time, it might not be right for me this time around. I’ll also note that I didn’t have a c-section (I was lucky despite meconium and 22 hours in labor) and I’m sure if I had my experience wouldn’t have been so rosey. My bad for not being clearer about that. I think it’s analogous to the I like mushrooms, I hate mushrooms opinion. Just because I liked it doesn’t mean you’re not valid for having a different experience or opinion about it.

And as for not not wanting to be away from my baby- I mentioned that because a friend of mine delivered at another hospital near us that wasn’t baby friendly and they wouldn’t let the baby stay with her while she slept so she tried to force herself not to sleep at all. That was not a “baby friendly” hospital. I think that’s horrendous. It should be your choice. If you need a break, there’s no shame. If you don’t then you shouldn’t be separated unnecessarily.
  • @mdwiny We have brought wine and champs into the hospital after both kids.

  • I definitely sent DS to the nursery because I was exhausted and needed to just sleep.  I felt guilty for doing it like I wasn't "supposed" to, but it really helped me.  He was with me most of the time.

On a side note about food and delivery, it pissed me off that I couldn't have anything but popsicles and ice chips and they brought DH pancakes while I was in labor!
  • @sparklingdiamond my husband got a fresh, hot steaming pizza delivered while I was in labor. I could have killed him...
  • That's awesome, @ngolimento! During labor with my second kid my L&D nurse was a real biotch. I asked for a popsicle and she said "everything you eat in active labor tends to come right back up." I'd had popsicles galore my first labor, so I ate it anyway. Sure enough, my traitorous body threw it up immediately and allowed her even more of the smug satisfaction that made her so annoying in the first place.

Note: this was literally the only L&D nurse I had during all three labors who wasn't completely awesome, so I'm definitely not besmirching them as a whole.

I would much rather vomit popsicles than dry heave, thanks!!!  What an awful nurse!!
