Weekly Questions - 9/25

Re: Weekly Questions - 9/25

  • Is there anyone willing to sit down and have an honest and frank conversation with me about fiber?  Things have been moving kind of...err...slowly and it is becoming uncomfortable.  I ate some fiber gummies this morning but they made me so gassy I almost had a situation in my classroom.  Anyone have any magical advice?

  • @keeksie84 I was having a lot of constipation for a few weeks and my doctor recommended Miralax and Colace. I also tried activa yogert but I'm not sure that did much. My body responds the same way to fiber so that's a no go for me.
  • @keeksie84 - I fought the problem most of my life - fiber caps didn’t help me either. When I moved in with (now) H, he tried to eat healthy. Lots of veggies, less red meats, lots of recipes with legumes, smoothies. Pregnancy has slowed me down, but still better than it was even 4 years ago. The number one thing I would say is smoothies! Within an hour, things are happening for me. Quick recipe (mix to your liking): 2 frozen bananas, cup of plain yogurt, heavy splash of PomWonderful, 1/2 c of 3 frozen fruits (berries, pineapple, whatever) and chia seeds. Blend together. That’s about 2 or 3 servings, but you can keep them frozen for a few days before eating them (we just each have one).

    Good luck!

  • @keeksie84 you can also try taking an Epsom salt bath.  I remember trying them last time I was pregnant to help with something else, never realizing that they are a laxative, and work even when just absorbed through the skin.  Boy did I learn quickly!

  • @ngolimento maybe that's why I've not had too many problems! Even when things have been slow, they've stayed moving. I take a bath with lavender Epsom salts almost daily.
  • @keeksie84 I also recommend adding magnesium and lemon water.  Both good for digestive health and easy incorporate into your routine!

  • @keeksie84 I'm not sure how long you're supposed to stay in the bath, but I know I often only spend about 10 minutes because I overheat.  I do recommend getting some of the scented Epsom salts. Those plus a candle and a neck pillow make it relaxing.
  • Size/dating question here: I had a viability scan at 7 weeks and the baby was measuring basically right on track with my LMP. I went for my 12 week NT scan yesterday at what I believed was 12 +3, and the baby is a full week larger. They wanted to move my due date back a week (which I wouldn't let them do, since I was 10 days past my EDD last time, and I don't want to run into induction issues). Being further along makes sense to me as far as timing/ovulation and my symptoms thus far, but I thought the earlier scans tend to be the most accurate as far as dating. Anyone have experience with this? I know it doesn't really matter, but now I'm curious if I'm actually 13 weeks. Thanks!

Also, I just caught up on this thread, and FWIW, I never wore a bra to sleep. I didn't have much trouble with leakage unless I heard a baby cry too close to feeding time or one time when we were camping and I couldn't figure out how to move my sleeping kiddo around in the tent to get her feeding on both sides. Soggy sleeping bag = the worst.
  • @mountainsmama that happened to me too (measure 2 days ahead at 8+2 and a week ahead at 12+5) my OB basically said that baby went through a bit of a growth spurt but at this point they didn't see any reason to change my due date which I was happy to hear because like you I don't want to deal with induction if it can be avoided.
  • @mountainsmama from what I've read, babies are pretty universally the same size up until 20 weeks. If the baby is still measuring a week (or more) ahead at your anatomy scan, I'd be way more inclined to agree to the earlier due date.

FWIW, there are risks associated with going too far past your due date. Say you fight to keep your original due date, then go 10 days past it again. If your OB is correct and your due date should have been pushed up a week, then you'd really be 17 days late. Many issues can arise with being that late. I'll spare you the details, but I went very late with my son as a result of my OB not pushing up my due date when I knew it was wrong based on tracking my ovulation. There were complications with his birth and I've always regretted not advocating for myself on that -- I feel very strongly that had he been delivered closer to his actual due date, we could have avoided a lot of what happened.
  • HAAAAALP!!!!
My diclegis bottle is empty and my insurance won't allow me to refill for another 7 days (I had to take a high dose than originally prescribed so I ran out earlier) does anyone knows what are the dosage for the b6/Unisom combo?? I usually take 10mg of diclegis in the morning and 20mg at night!! Thanks!!

Before I was able to get my prescription of diclegis, I was taking half a unisom and 50 mg of b6 per my doctors advice. *i take two diclegis pills at night now if that makes any difference.
  • @danjoly compliments of Fertility and Midwifery Care Center: Unisom (doxylamine) 25mg by mouth at bedtime and 12.5mg (1/2 tablet) in the morning and in the midafternoon PLUS Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) 25mg three times a day. May also increase Vitamin B6 to 50mg at bedtime with 25mg in morning and midafternoon if needed.
  • Thank you ladies!!! I was totally panicking! I also found an expired bottle of zofran from last pregnancy that I have as a backup but it gave me bad headaches so I'll stick with the homemade diclegis!
  • @mountainsmama my DS measured a week-2 weeks ahead and they never changed my due date after the original dating u/s. My OB told me they wouldn't let me go past a week overdue with DS because he measured so large
  • @danjoly I refused to pay the price of the diclegis. I take a whole unisom at night and 50mg of the b6 and it gets me by. Talk about a life saver.
  • :# FWIW, I consistently measured two weeks ahead and we never changed my date. He came exactly on his due date. He was 9 pounds though.
  • @okayrunner mine also came on his due date after measuring 2 weeks ahead! He was 2 oz short of 9 lbs haha.
  • @toorahloorah loorah mentioned Amazon Prime in another thread, but it reminded me that I want opinions on it.. Other than free 2 day shipping, what are the big draws? Who loves it? Anyone had it and cancelled? TIA!

  • @g_amoss Amazon prime is awesome! I remember in the early days with DS and panicking over one thing after another, it was so nice to be able to buy things online and get it fast. It took us a while to find the right pacifier, the right swaddle, bibs, creams, etc, I like not having to rely on what stores near me have. And the two day shipping is key when you can’t find a pacifier that works for your baby. I one day shipped items too, that is also cheaper if you have prime.

@g_amoss we couldn't live without Prime! Like @irenejean said, it's a lifesaver with babies and you're still figuring out what they need. Even now, my kids grow out of their pajamas super fast and it's great to have new ones delivered to our door so quickly. Andplusalso there are ALWAYS products to buy that you never even knew you needed until you started browsing ;)
That’s what I’m afraid of lol!

  • We love Prime. The shipping is a life saver, the photo storage is a necessity, we've found a few of their tv shoes that we enjoy, and I use prime music a lot. They have pretty everything, which is nice for us rural livers that don't always want to run to the city for shopping. Oh, and Amazon smile is a bonus! We have it set that all the eligible proceeds on our purchases go to the shelter we adopted our dog from. We forgot to cancel our trial four years ago and never looked back!
  • Echoing all the Prime love. Even better is Amazon Fresh. It’s been a life-changer. I rarely step foot in an actual grocery store anymore and save money because I’m not impulsively throwing things we don’t need in the cart.
  • @g_amoss Amazon Prime is life. The other ladies already gave it mad props, but I'm echoing all they've said. We don't do subscribe and save, but we use it often. My favorite feature is that I can send my nephew, SIL, and BIL gifts in Texas and not have to pay for shipping!

@sjn00 do you mean spreading out the yearly membership fee throughout the year?
  • We love love Amazon Prime. Not only the free shipping but the tv too! My kids love Tumbleleaf and Wishenpoof. There's movies on there too. But its so handy for diapers, lotions and some baby food is cheaper on there too. My girls had addictions to plum organic food pouches when they were younger. So much cheaper than in the store!
  • @sjn00 @kmalls it's cheaper to pay annually though!

We love it for the tv (transparent, catastrophe, good girls revolt) and the music, and I'm sure the 2-day shipping will seem like a pure miracle with a tiny baby
