Re: October FET

  • @Bababatty yes, my first FET was on Jan 31st.

Maybe on Tues afternoon at work I can say that I’m starting to have a headache. And it will evolve to Migraine later that night ;)

i do suffer from migraines. But I’m yet to take a real sick day for it. Haha

  • @Bababatty in a way though I want a different reason. Silly me thinking if I use the same reason it will end the same way :( I might say at work that I’m starting treatment of some medication (referring to neupogen). So maybe on Wed I will feel weak and not so good from it?

  • @prudence9-2 Completely understand you on not wanting to use the same excuse and jinx yourself. Feeling weak is a good excuse. Will anyone question a generic "I'm really not feeling well today and I'm going to stay home and rest" excuse? Debilitating cramps are also a good one, although I'd find that too jinxy.  :p
  • @MamaK225 yeah, I thought it was brilliant tbh, lol.
  • @prudence9-2 I agree with feeling a little “weak” the day before so your work will already assume you won’t go in the next day

Random question: Are everyone's RE/OB as emphatic about getting flu shots as mine are? Has everyone gotten them or do you not plan on taking it? I know it's preferred because there can be complications if you do come down with the flu, but I just hate/hated the thought of it. I did get mine today, though, because I'm still approx 2 weeks from FET. I had the same timing with my 1st FET (my DD) and had no issues, but I still feel uneasy about it.
    **History in Spoiler**
    Me-35, DH-36 - TTC since 08/10
Me - anovulatory, non-Insulin PCOS, DH - low end of "normal" sperm count
       IUI#1   - 02/15 - Cancelled due to scrubbed sperm count <1MM
       IVF#1  - 08/15 - 13x5-day blastocysts (ranging from AA-BB, most are 5 or 6), not PGS, on ice
       FET#1 - 10/15 - 1 emb - BFP (DD 07/16) (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
       FET#2 - 07/17 - 1 emb - BFN (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
       FET#3 - 08/17 - 1 emb - BFN (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
FET#4 - 10/17 - 2 emb - BFN (changed to estrace + prometrium because of allergic reaction to PIO sesame oil)
    ERA Testing - 12/17 - window moved (-1 day)
       FET#5 - 03/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
    Karyotype Testing - 04/18 - Negative (we're ok)
       FET#6 - 06/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
       FET#7 - 10/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
FET#8 - 11/18 - 2 emb - BFP; looks like one baby is going to make it, DD is due 8/16 (though likely to be 8/9)

  • @MamaK225 I just got mine today (they're doing them free at my job), but I ran it by them first to ask if it was okay to do now or if I should hold off. No one had brought it up before then, though.
  • @MamaK225 my RE has me get them
  • @Crystal321 that’s too funny! In a way I think that was my excuse last time when I said “stomach virus” I think ppl understood I’m probably dealing with diarrhea.  :D

@Bababatty so I shouldn’t say that I think it’s because of a new med I’m taking? Since neupogen is usually not IF related, I feel better talking about it at work. I won’t mention the name. But even if I do, I don’t think they’d be able to connect that to IF treatments.

  • @prudence9-2 Neupogen is also used for cancer patients, so maybe don't mention it by name at all, lest people think you have leukemia or something :(
  • @prudence9-2 Oh sorry, I was just throwing out more ideas for fun. Your original is a great excuse and vaguely true, haha. :D

@mjpbarretto Congratulations on your check! Great news!

@MamaK225 My RE has never said anything about it but I planned to get one anyway since I believe most OBs push for it. I don't usually get a flu shot, but obviously will make an exception for a baby. My work also does it for free but it's not until later in the month, when I'd be in my FET cycle, so I'll probably go to a clinic this weekend. I don't want to do it during the FET since I guess the standard vaccine has a bit of mercury in it and isn't recommended for pregnant ladies. (Although my PCP said it was really fine, I'm not willing to risk it.)

  • @sarcasticowl oh yeah, I’m not going to mention it by name!

@MamaK225 I got my flu shot 1.5 weeks ago. So 2 weeks before my FET. I made sure to get the preservative free shot.

@Bababatty can you ask for the preservative free one? It suppose to be without mercury.

  • @prudence9-2 Yeah, I would want the preservative-free one if I was doing it during my cycle. I'm just not sure the people doing it at work would have that version with them. I won't even get AF until next week, so I'm fine going to a walk-in clinic this weekend and having them do it with or without preservative.

@Bababatty I think the preservative stay in your system. In California it is recommended to get the preservative free if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant in the next few months.

I had 4 eggs retrieved last month, 3 fertilized and just one made it to freeze and the quality isn't that amazing but I too am hoping that that ONE will be the one and that this month will be our month.

  • @rainbows2018 @tinjp78 best wishes to you both. Sometimes it only takes one!
  • First PIO shot done. At first looking at the needle it looked so thick (Especially after using the tiny Lupron needle for the last 4 weeks). It was easy though. They start me with 0.5 ml for 2 days then 1 ml for 3 days. And from transfer day, I’ll be at 1.5 ml.

  • Hi all! I’ve been MIA for about two weeks! Lots to catch up on. Quick update for me: FET scheduled for Wednesday 10/11! Just gave myself my first PIO injection this AM and it wasn’t as bad as I had thought it would be thankfully! I think I was preparing for the worst and was pleasantly surprised! Gotta keep thinking the worst I suppose hahah!

    FET #1:  October 11th -- Beta only 12. CP
    FET #2: January 12th -- BFP!
  • Thanks @sarcasticowl I'm relieved to hear that. If my dr. recommends it, I'll do it. Although I'm not sure what will happen coz I've never had any flu vaccine in my life. My parents weren't big fans of vaccinations.

  • @tnh0413 wow you have a schedule now! I'm excited for you! Congrats on your first PIO shot.

  • @tnh0413 & @prudence9-2 - is this your first time doing the PIO? In my last FET, I spoke with my favorite nurse who introduced me to another injection site that was soooooooooooo much easier/less painful/less tenderness or soreness. What site(s) are you using or plan to use?

  • Hi everyone,

I am officially 4dp5dt and symptom spotting like crazy, A few women on the Sept FET boards got positives really early, and a couple friends convinced me to start testing to hopefully see the line darken, so I did on 2dp5dt, 3dp5dt and this morning also.  Still getting BFN's (although my friend is trying to convince she sees SOMETHING), but I think the testing is perhaps adding to my anxiety as it is reminding me of my first cycle, when I was so hopeful every day and got negative after negative.  So I am vowing to stop after today.  I am hoping it is too early to see anything, trying to convince myself by looking at the 5 day transfer process that the embryo would not even be secreting HCG until 6dp5dt.  I also felt what I thought may be some implantation cramping late last night, sharper, pulling pains in my lower central abdomen, so hoping and praying that it is starting to grow.

I need to remain hopeful, optimistic and convinced that I am PASP!!!  No matter what, it is out of my hands, what can I do about the outcome now?  Even if you told me it was going to be negative in 6 days, symptom spotting and POASing like crazy is not going to change that...so at least I can enjoy the next 6 days and know that for now I can be at peace with what is going on inside my body.  Of course this is all easier said than done.  I have been meditating at night, but plan on trying to find some additional meditations today and use them 3-4x/day when I get anxious.  My parents are also visiting this weekend so that should keep be busier too hopefully.

@20T, how are you doing 4dp5dt, hanging in there?

@prudence9-2 It still amazes me how each clinic has such a different protocol, even with progesterone.  I mean, supposedly most women (80% or so) have an implantation window after 5 days of progesterone, but how can that be consistent when everyone is receiving different doses?  My clinic starts us at PIO 1ml daily X 2 days, then 2ml daily until transfer and for TWW, I needed an additional day of 2ml.  I also am still very impressed you administer them yourself.  Last cycle, I administered 5 out of 6 myself, this cycle my DH has done most of them, I have only done 2, and for some reason my right side is ultra sensitive.  Even when DH does them on that hip, they are bleeding more and the injection itself is painful.  Good news though, is that I am no longer feeing painful lumps from the injections, not sure why or how that stopped, but for the first 8 days or so, I could tell exactly where each one had gone, but then the last 2 nights, he has free range of both hips again because while they are a little sensitive, the discomfort is so much better.  Have you ever felt this after using PIO for awhile?

@tnh0413 Congrats on being in the home stretch, the countdown to transfer is on.  I think the hype leading up to the PIO is often much worse than the injection itself.  Hopefully your body will react well to it.

Good luck to everyone else who is starting to or continuing to prep for their transfers this month, I am starting to get nervous about being one of the first to start this board off, but hopefully it will be in the positive direction!  Beta is 10/12, so just 6 more days.
  • @prudence9-2 - I get ya, I remember doing it with FET#1 and it not being such a big deal or that hard (but probably because I was so used to all the injections for the IVF cycle). But with FET#2 & FET#3 it seemed to cause me a lot of discomfort. Was just offering, in case others were having the same experience.

       FET#3 - 08/17 - 1 emb - BFN (estrace + PIO sesame oil + prometrium)
FET#4 - 10/17 - 2 emb - BFN (changed to estrace + prometrium because of allergic reaction to PIO sesame oil)
    ERA Testing - 12/17 - window moved (-1 day)
       FET#5 - 03/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
    Karyotype Testing - 04/18 - Negative (we're ok)

       FET#7 - 10/18 - 2 emb - BFN (estrace + prometrium, ERA-timing used)
FET#8 - 11/18 - 2 emb - BFP; looks like one baby is going to make it, DD is due 8/16 (though likely to be 8/9)

  • @bethann1022 that’s great that you’re already feeling symptoms. Try not to worry about the negative HPT. It’s way too early. I think it’s rare to see anything this early.

I also find it interesting how different clinics have such different protocols. But this one worked for me in the past. So I hope it will work this time as well!!! ***TW*** I got BFP with my previous 2 FETs... unfortunately both pregnancies didn’t last long.. ****end TW****

As for PIO, before my first time I was terrified. Did I mention I used to be afraid of needles?? And the 1.5 inch needle seems sooo big. I was also afraid I won’t be able to administer it with my left hand. But I managed. In fact, I think I do it better with my left hand, go figure! (Or maybe my left side is less sensitive?)

in a way, I like doing it on my own as I think I have more control over it.

  • @MamaK225 actually with my last FET I was really suffering too!! I think I was allergic to it all of a sudden. I spoke to the nurse and I will try it again and if I’m feeling allergic to it, they will switch me to a different type! What did you do to ease the injection?

@prudence9-2 - I had the SAME exact reaction: puffiness and moderate itchiness (which I avoided itching because I didn't want it to get worst, it would go down after 24 hours) and some tenderness. I was originally injecting near my love handles, just north of the pelvis (on the backside, not the actual side). I found that switching to thigh injections (high up, along the outer edge) with the 1" needles was a LOT less painful in both the initial injection (thick PIO means thick needles!) and in any after pain or redness or tenderness than the other. It also made it easier to rub-in after, reducing the chance for those pesky PIO lumps that can become painful. It also gave me the flexibility of allowing me to do the injections, instead of DH.

I salute all the women doing their own ( IVF ) shots. I haven't done any of them myself. A nurse does that for me- a standard procedure at my hospital (I live here in Japan). You guys are great... the ninjas of IVF!
