Re: Randoms 9/14

  • Ugh, and now I have red streaks. Now I definitely have to call on Monday.
  • @heatherlynn321, in the meantime I recommend taking ibuprofen to help reduce the inflammation/pain/fever. My OB office told me to take 600 mg every 6 hours.

  • @Rhubarb7216 Thanks, I'm still taking the 800 mg Motrin they prescribed me when I left the hospital. So hopefully that will keep it at bay a little till Monday.
  • @heatherlynn321 no one is on call to write a script on the weekend? I'm not trying to freak you out, but mastitis happens really quick. Typically 12-24 hours. If you feel worse, I would go to urgent care.
  • @lilpoots Unfortunately no, their weekend option is to just go to the ER. I haven't felt fluish since yesterday morning, but I'm still pretty sure it's mastitis, it feels hot and still really hurts.
  • @heatherlynn321 compresses, pump and massage it as best you can. I bet it really hurts. I'm super prone to mastitis,  so i never let a clogged duct be.
  • Aaaand now 3 days past due. Had an eventful morning on the due date (Thursday), actually, when my BP was measuring high at my 40 wk appt, so I was sent to triage at the hospital for labs and monitoring. Everything came back normal, baby looked great, and BP was back in range, so they let me come home. Not feeling any progress or early labor signs, though I'm a FTM so I'm basically just feeling more clueless than ever. Is anyone else still waiting?

I don't know where you are, but a walk in clinic can treat mastitis. I know we do at the one where I work. Simple visit. Hope you feel better soon!
  • @EmilyE13 I feel for you!! I was induced at 41+3 with both of my kiddos. Waiting is the worst! I had successful inductions and healthy babes both times. Let me know if you have any questions or just need to complain. I’m in Canada and had a very patient medical team that took a very hands off approach (ie did not want to induce until medically necessary). It tested my patience but I’m happy with the outcomes!!
  • @kmac1982 Thank you! I'm trying to stay positive but am super anxious with each passing day. My OB is hoping I go into labor on my own but they did institute a hard deadline of 41 weeks since I have had some occasional bouts of elevated BP (no other preeclampsia symptoms though) at previous OB visits.
  • @heatherlynn321 how are you feeling? What did the dr say?
  • I was able to get some antibiotics last night, so hopefully I start feeling better soon. Do I still need to try to massage it, or will the medicine make it all go away?
  • @heatherlynn321 You still have to remove the milk and massage the blocked duct to get everything out. The medicine will kill the infection.
  • @tfrangul I'm glad moving is going well and so happy for you that you're at peace with your decision. Sounds like this is the best move (so to speak) for your family, for sure.

AFM, greetings from labor & delivery. I went in last night for induction due to another high BP reading at my OB appt on Monday and am progressing so sloooooowly. Of course BP readings have all been fine here.
  • @EmilyE13 good luck with the induction! I hope things are moving along and you have your little one in your arms soon!!
  • Good thoughts for a successful induction
  • @EmilyE13, best wishes for a smooth delivery
  • @EmilyE13 I hope things went/are going well! Keep us updated!
  • I'm 3 weeks post partum and having a rough time. My left breast is trying to develop mastitis. I've got the abx script, but I am attempting to get the clogged duct out before it gets bad enough I have to treat it. Seems to be working so far. Baby is feeding a ton right now, too. Also experiencing new red bleeding. Luckily it is very light, but I will be calling tomorrow to get checked since I am at risk of hemorrhage. Hopefully it is either normal or a torn stitch. Looking forward to resolving things so we can all relax.
  • @lilpoots. That sounds rough! I'm also three weeks post partum, and I've had a few days where I have randomly started bleeding bright red too. But, in very small quantities which makes me think it is my stitches too. Hopefully your problems will be resolved soon!
  • @lilpoots sorry you are having a rough time. I can definitely sympathize on the clogged ducts/mastitis. I’ve had a clogged ducts a bunch of times now (my son is 8 weeks old), had mastitis two weeks ago, and then had a particularly painful clog this week. Fortunately this time it didn’t turn into mastitis, but it was horrible. Sending you good thoughts!

I'm so glad you didn't get mastitis again. It is awful. I am prone to clogged ducts and mastitis, too when my milk is regulating. Hopefully once everything regulates and babies get skilled at nursing, we won't experience this anymore. You're 8 weeks, so hopefully that's soon for you.

I am allergic to penicillin and cephalosporins, so that's why I try to avoid abx when I can.
  • How do I know the difference between just a clogged duct and mastitis? I have had terrible pain the last week in my right breast. Especially after feeding it burns and radiates pain for at least 20 minutes after. No fever or hot spots. I have been massaging it as much as possible.

Mastitis has flu like symptoms in addition to the breast pain/redness. When I had it, I had chills, a headache, and a fever of 100.4. If you only have breast pain, it’s not mastitis, but it could become mastitis. Do you feel hard spots? If it’s a clogged duct, you should feel hard spots. My newest strategy for getting out clogs is to soak my breast in a bowl of hot water and massage from the outside to the nipple.
  • Mastitis happens when the milk trapped in that duct becomes infected and starts to leak into nearby breast tissue. Usually you get redness and a fever, flu like symptoms on top of what you're already experiencing. It comes on really quickly.
  • Yes when she goes for long periods without eating I get engorged and feel the hard knots. I'm starting to just run the hot water on my breasts in the shower and massage the knots out while I hand express. I'm hoping it keeps mastitis away.

@tfrangul, @coastalmomma-2, and @lilpoots thank you for the good wishes/checking in! LO was in zero rush to enter the world, so despite starting induction Monday evening, she wasn't born until eeaaaarly morning on Thursday. I posted in the birth announcements if you want to see a couple pics. Induction ultimately failed: I couldn't get past 6 cm and she wouldn't descend, so we went with the c section.

Sorry for the delay in updating....as it turns out, I had some scary complications that arose in the 24 hours after giving birth. I'm more or less OK now but any birth story I put together is going to have a bigass TW accompanying it. Sigh. Bottom line, though, is that she is amazingly healthy and I am at least on the road to recovery at this point.
Thanks for the update. Glad to hear everything is okay now and that you have a healthy baby girl! I love redhead babies having had one. Don't discount your own healing though. I know there are other mommas here who had traumatic births who it may be good to connect with. From my experience talking with other moms, it seems like that can stay with you for a long time. Take care!
  • @EmilyE13 I'm glad your baby is here and you get to snuggle her! I'm so sorry you had a scary experience. I had one with my son and it can stick with for awhile like what coastal said. Please take care of yourself!
  • @lilpoots Thank you! Yeah, that's spot on what I'm going through. I'm still feeling so much residual fear from what happened, which is compounded by the extreme physical exhaustion, pain, and weakness I'm still going through. My OB called me last night to check on me and suggested I think about journaling, which sounds like a good idea. What's also reassuring to me is hearing from those of you who had complications with a previous delivery but then had relatively smooth subsequent deliveries. I'm endlessly thankful I was able to keep my uterus so that future pregnancies are possible, but I'm admittedly terrified of going through something similar in the future.
  • @EmilyE13 wish I could give you a big hug right now. I really do understand, as I just barely avoided a hysterectomy with my first. Journaling is a good idea and I highly recommend talking to a therapist, if that's in your budget. This recent pregnancy was so scary for me, but my labor ended up being a very healing experience. Please give yourself time and a lot of self care to process this. Find friends you trust to share with. You might be surprised to find out that there are people in your life who had similar experiences, but were also afraid to share.
  • These grass fires really suck. The whole state is burning up. My eyes, nose and throat hurt. We aren't even that close to them.
  • My list of random:
I go back to work next Thursday. I'm not ready.

My oldest comes home tomorrow night from California! She will have been gone a week and holy shit I have missed her. She is such a great kid and amazing at helping me with the babies!

I am stressing out about her suicide squad themed birthday party we are having Sunday. I know no matter what we do she will be happy but that's just how I am....
  • I had my 6 week followup today, and found out that I have a prolapsed bladder. I think I didn't really understand what that was until I left and looked it up, in my mind at the appointment I was just thinking bladder leakage when he said it, but I haven't had any of that yet, I thought he just meant after 2 kids I might have some bladder leakage in the future. After the appointment I had time to really look it up, and it essentially looks like it's your bladder slipping into your vagina, which is kind of scary. They're going to call tomorrow with my pap results, so I was going to ask them for some more information about my bladder tomorrow when they call, but I'm assuming part of it is already slipping because he mentioned it after doing my exam.
Does anyone have any experience with a prolapsed bladder? I'm hoping it's less scary than it sounds.
  • @heatherlynn321 no experience here but I'm sorry you are having to deal with that.

Not bladder—but I had a mild prolapsed urethra and rectum. I saw a urogyn specialist while I was pregnant. She said to give it 6 months post partum. She said most of the time it goes back to normal. If it bothers you, you could follow up with a urogyn and get their opinion.
