IF Testing & Treatment Week of 9/18

Re: IF Testing & Treatment Week of 9/18

  • @RVAmom315 I just get headaches. The nurses warned me that I would be hormonal, but I didn't feel anything. I am also not a super emotional person-pretty even keeled, so there's that. I've been on Clomid now, and follistim (same as gonal F)  and menopur with my IVF round. I don't drink caffeine ever, so I know it wasn't the lack of caffeine for me.

  • @RVAmom315 - Are they having you do a hybrid cycle with Clomid and Gonal-F? Have you tried just Clomid in the past? Seems odd that they'd have you combine the drugs before knowing how you react to gentle stimulation first... In any case, I didn't have side effects with either drug (I did 3 rounds of Clomid and 1 with Follistim). If you're squeamish about needles in the belly I'd advise you to take the vials out of the fridge for 15 minutes prior to injection. If it's cold right from the fridge it feels pretty weird. Otherwise, you won't really even feel it because the needles are so thin and short. The skin in the stomach is surprisingly not sensitive. It's when you reach the muscle that you feel pain but the needles are so short that there's not even a risk for that.
  • @wishiwaspreggo Thanks! No, I've never been on any type of fertility meds before. I'm not exactly sure why this is the protocol, but I'm going to go with it! I'm not too worried about the needles (and stomach muscles, what? I have some padding  ) just the side effects - moodiness, headaches, etc. I want to know what to expect since I have that work event - I guess I won't know until I try! I'm just going to give everyone a heads up

I'm wondering (and I could be completely wrong on this) but since our issue is morph, maybe he (the RE) wants to have more chances for one to power through? Maybe? Or maybe because I'm old and he wants to throw everything he can at me? When I call on CD1 I will ask.

  • @RVAmom315 - I *think* FSH helps with egg quality (which may be helpful if you're 35+) so that could be the logic. But I'd definitely ask. It's always nice to know the logic behind a doctor's thinking. I like to know the "why's" and "how's" myself!

The reason I know about needles in the muscle is because I have a lap band. In order to fill it, the doctor uses a horrifyingly long and thick-gauge needle. It doesn't hurt when it penetrates the skin and fat layers and if it's done by someone with skill you hardly feel it. However, I had a new nurse who was just learning to do the injections and she hit the muscle multiple times and for a chunky lass as myself, that is *deep*. Lord, that stings. You don't wanna go that deep but there's zero chance of a FSH needle doing that to you so have no fear :)

  • @BusinessWife how did she get 5 mature from your follies? You had 7 at 17+ mm and that was yesterday- isn't anything over 18 most likely to be mature?
  • @BusinessWife I'm confused by the numbers too but didn't they get more than they saw last time?  As for the fert report, I always got mine the morning after ER. FX for you honey.

  • @BusinessWife I'm guessing that your doc was giving you a lower number so that you might be pleasantly surprised later, especially based on the measurements you had.

  • Yeah, I really don't know what to think. @kiwi2628 @laurad75 @AlohaKumu
Maybe some managing of expectations, but Im telling you, the numbers look so weird.  Like did they SHRINK overnight???  I had my follis measured by 3 different doctors the past three days...  today she only saw 2 @17 and 3 at 19.
