This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this like an ongoing conversation.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) surgery on Wednesday
How are things going? Pretty good, just anxiously waiting for Wednesday and hoping we get some answers. I found out my surgery is going to cost $3300 out of pocket so that's fun. If the doctor bills it as infertility then it's free because we have a $20,000 lifetime maximum for IF treatment but since we're worried we may have to do IVF we're trying to save that money and have her bill it as "pain" instead. Of course if they find something fixable during the surgery and we're able to conceive after without IVF then we just wasted money. So it's kind of a double edged sword but I figure I'll play it safe and not touch the IF money yet.
Any questions? Nope

How are things going? Actually, going OK. I was super anxious about the IVF injections but my husband has totally stepped up. He's actually doing a really good job with injections. The menopur BURNS, though.
Any questions? Any tips about how to improve the menopur burning? @saralee797-2 recommended icing first which I'll try tonight. Other tips very welcome!

Any questions? Not yet, give me about 3 weeks ;-)

How are things going?
Things are going well. H and I have talked our options to death and have decided that we're going to forego all surgery for either of us because they're unlikely to help. We're also skipping IUI because we'd have to do injectibles for my issues anyway, and with H's issue, it's unlikely to work. Soooo, IVF it is. We still have to wait to get some insurance kinks ironed out, but I'm crossing my fingers that we're able to do our ER cycle in Nov or Dec and the transfer shortly after that. Our RE is requiring a frozen transfer (also due to my issues) so I'm not sure how much of a break she'll want to give my body. Anyway, it's exciting to think that we'll be doing this soon. Even if we have to wait until next year because of insurance/schedules, it's still soon after this much time!
Any questions? Not at the moment. I'm sure I'll have plenty coming up.
GTKY: Share something hilarious you've enjoyed reading/seeing/hearing recently! I'll have to think on this.
Edit. Fixing atocorrect. (It changed FF to F2F for some reason.)
@shortstack930 good luck! Ah, the finance crap...always fun when it comes to IF! As if we don't already have enough worry.
@adirat Good luck finding a way to make those injections a bit more tolerable! I hope you can find something that works. I hope my husband can step up and give me my trigger shot this time around. IUI #1 the nurse in the RE office did it due to timing. IUI #2 my husband brought a paramedic home to do it. IUI #3 might be on him!
@RVAmom315 welcome back!! I really hope this is your cycle and you can SS your way out of here!
@zwink1 I'm glad you guys came up with a plan and it sounds like a pretty good one! It is SO soon with everything else considered! Good luck!!

How are things going? Meh. Period and cramps after a 2nd failed IUI. Not fantastic but things could be way worse.
Any questions?
GTKY: Share something hilarious you've enjoyed reading/seeing/hearing recently! I have nothing fun. I will have to keep track of some of these responses so I can enjoy them as well though!
@adirat I only did menopur once but I had to ice before all of my shots or I was miserable. We actually used a little pig shaped ice pack that made me feel better.
@shortstack930 good luck with surgery! I think it's worth it to save that insurance in case you need it for ivf. If you get to that point it will be one less thing to worry about.
@RVAmom515 Billy Eichner plays an RE on a Netflix show called friends from college and it's hysterical. I love him.
@zwink1 I'm so sorry that you're having to cross the IVF bridge but it sounds like you guys have a good plan!
AFM I've got nothing going on this week. Got my period this weekend so it turns out that I am not the ss that gets pregnant miraculously after a loss. Still saving and planning for adoption.

How are things going? Not great. We have had a lot going on in our personal lives, so have been back and forth to Ontario. I came back several weeks ago, and just before DH was ready to leave, the car got stolen. It took a couple extra weeks for that to get sorted so he is only on his way now (he couldn't fly with the dog). Of course, this was the first time I ovulated normally since March and he wasn't here. I'm so mad at the situation, and it doesn't help that as of October, we will have crossed into our second year of trying.
Any questions? Any tips on dealing with the anger? I've been trying to go to yoga more but am having a lot of trouble with focus
GTKY: Share something hilarious you've enjoyed reading/seeing/hearing recently! I can't say I have anything to share - I've been pretty dark lately
@Sailing_Mama Yikes, you have had a lot going on for sure, no wonder you're feeling low. Just know that we are always here if you need some support . The vacation was good - my MIL kept writing on my FB about "Why are you there?" "The hurricane is coming" "They are evacuating NC" (we were in OBX). It was annoying, because if she'd just turn on the weather channel, she'd know IRMA was nowhere near OBX. We didn't have any rain, beautiful weather the whole time. It was so frustrating.
Our plan is, if I'm not a SS, that I'll call on CD1 and get set up with a medicated IUI in October. Do three of those (if the first two don't work), and then reassess in January if we're going to do IVF.
Do you mind if I join you? I recognize many of you so hopefully you know my story kind of. I'm seriously contemplating IVF after DW's failed IUIs (she can't emotionally handle doing it anymore and the medications they put her on made her miserable and I can't justify asking her to keep trying if I don't feel burdened by the process when I do it myself).
I went through 6 IUIs from 2013-14. I had success with Follistim but that was 3 years ago. I'm not getting any younger and I worry that doing any further IUIs at this point would be flushing money down the toilet that could go towards a much more successful shot with IVF.
We're taking a break right now to relax and enjoy the holidays and will probably do a consult with a new RE in January. At DW's last IUI they forgot about her - left her sitting in the treatment room clutching her thawed sperm sample for 45 minutes. She had to wrap a sheet around her and ask for someone to come help her. Then the nurse came rushing in apologizing, said she forgot she was waiting. Okay... listen, we are 100% OOP. Leaving someone sitting there with thawed sperm with a very finite shelf life after paying GOBS of money is unacceptable. There's a practice in the same town that gets great reviews so we're going to see what they have to offer.
Anyway, if you all want to vote me out because I'm more pragmatic than I am infertile, I understand. But I'd like to learn more from you all and live vicariously through your experiences so I know what I may expect in the future. I was watching YouTube videos and it's absolutely amazing what they can do now, though I admit I am nervous as this is a huge step beyond what I've done in the past.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) This week, I'm going to be dropping off more of the never-ending paperwork with the RE's office.
How are things going? The RE office is very helpful, but I feel like I have to chase them with specific requests for information or things I know need to get done. For example, the location for our sperm donor is separate from my doctor's clinic and the clinic said they have not received a doctor's order so that they can schedule the sperm donation and infectious disease testing. I know once I contact the RE, it will get fixed, but I wish I wouldn't have to chase them in the first place.
Any questions? For those of you who are doing donor sperm/eggs, did you need to get a Power of Attorney? Our RE's office said we need to get one, but they haven't given us any sort of template. I found one on the internet, but I was curious about others doing this.
GTKY: Share something hilarious you've enjoyed reading/seeing/hearing recently! I loved seeing a clip of Sean Spicer at the Emmys and everyone FREAKING out, especially Melissa McCarthy.
@shortstack930 I hope the surgery goes well. It's so freaking frustrating that all of this stuff isn't just covered in the first place! @adirat I'm glad your DH is helping out with your injections! I'm not looking forward to that burning sensation, but I'm glad I'm learning a lot from all of you! @RVAmom315 I do hope that you will be a SS. It's been a while since we had one on the board. @zwink1 I know it's a big step to decide on IVF, but I definitely feel you on that. (We decided to just jump into IVF with donor sperm to give ourselves the best chance, too.) @50Wife I hope your doctor visit goes well tomorrow and that the adage of the third time being the charm is true for you. @tamalahoops I'm sorry about AF, especially after your loss. We are always here if you need a place to vent. @Sailing_Mama Oh gosh! Your car situation sounds awful, especially with the added stress of ovulation. I hope your yoga sessions become more peaceful.

@shortstack930 Wow, I can’t believe your surgery is already here. That sucks about the insurance, but I would do the same thing as you, and try to save any IF funds for if/when they’re needed. I hope everything goes smoothly for you this Wednesday!
@adirat That’s really great of your husband- Sorry to hear about the burning Kind of funny/random, but last year when my best friend was going through IVF, and I had to give her some injections while her husband was out of town for the weekend. Before he left, he drew a smiley face on one of her buttcheeks, with the nose being the spot where I had to stick the needle, and on her other buttcheek, he drew a target, and the bullseye was where I had to stick her. I sent her home with “Holly was here” Sharpied across her butt, for her husband to find. We have an interesting friendship lol.
@zwink1 Glad you guys were able to come to a decision. I hope you have some sort of relief/weight off your shoulders now that you have a more solid plan to move forward with.
@zwink1 So glad you and YH had a good talk, and I hope you can get everything square so you can move forward soon!
@wishiwaspreggo I have no problem with you hanging out here! I'm sorry that your RE's office was so awful, and leaving YW all alone. That's unacceptable.
@AlohaKumu I am so happy to see you back here! Sounds like so many hoops to jump through, but it'll all be worth it in the end

GTKY: Share something hilarious you've enjoyed reading/seeing/hearing recently! I just discovered the tv show The Guestbook and I think it's hilarious. That's all I can think of right now.
The first mention of ivf sort of annoyed me because it felt sorta glossed over. They do ivf in the second to last episode of the season and it's a little slapstick silly but pretty accurate. I thought it was handled pretty well and it had some good infertile specific humor that I appreciated.

@tamalahoops Thanks for the info! I think I will check it out.

@wishiwaspreggo Wow, that is terrible that they forgot about her. That's so sad!
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) letrozole, trigger, IUI x2
How are things going? Had IUI #1 this morning- 53 mil. sperm post-wash! Its our last IUI before moving to IVF so I am ready to see if this worked and get the show on the road if it didn't! Other than that, I mentioned this in WTO but ***TW*** Yesterday at my 30th birthday a friend, who knows we are doing infertility stuff and thinking IVF may be soon, told me at my party that she is pregnant. I am so happy for her but in my mind it was a giant punch in the gut and also, like, maybe not on my birthday?
Just lurking today while I'm on my lunch break. I'll be back tomorrow. Just wanted to say @adirat I used some smaller needles for my menopur (the ones that came with my gonalF). I will have to check the gauge to tell you for sure but my clinic said it was ok and that helped a little. I would also make DH pinch the skin and fat pretty tight right before giving it. The pinch doesn't hurt much but still seems to distract from the burning a bit. Unfortunately the burning seemed to get a little worse each time so I was happy to be done with it.
@kiwi2628 1. Good luck! I hope this IUI works!!! 2. Happy Birthday! 3. Not cool, I'm sorry she picked that time to tell you.
@AlohaKumu Glad to see you back and moving forward!!! And I honestly can't help but smile every time I'm logged on from a computer and I see your, "Nevertheless, she persisted" quote. It makes me happy and also mentally say fucking right she did!
@wishiwaspreggo I'd totally want to pick a new RE after that. I'd be livid if I just sat there waiting. I hope you guys can find a new doc and come up with a good game plan to move forward with in January!
How are things going? Ugh, reminded this morning of why I don't always read the newbie threads. It's depressing to see SN's I recognize return to try for another child, and I'm still sitting here without a live baby. *sigh* Looking forward to my vacation in a week.

Not good, bfn this morning, I have to go for a beta tomorrow but I'm 12dpiui so idk. I'll hold on to all the hope possible since it can't hurt but I'm not having a good day today. If that wasn't enough yesterday I saw this American greetings commercial about IF (in spoiler box) *TW* PLEASE proceed with caution on this video if you're having a tough TTC day. Honestly, i cried seeing it and even though it hurt it makes me want to buy American greetings cards because damn it they are talking about something that everyone else avoids. I really identified with every piece of that commercial. And I feel like no one ever wants to address IF and that makes me feel even more alienated than I already do. So anyway, good for them.
Any questions? Idk what to do anymore. We were planning on taking a 3 month break and moving onto IVF if this IUI didn't work. This way I could read ISWTE and do everything possible for the best egg quality. Now I'm like do I do another IUI? I'm nervous about committing to IVF, were 100% OOP and I'm scared about the meds. Then I'm like do I find a job to get IVF coverage I hate my job as it is it's so stressful I work in a hospital with very high acuity patients maybe this is the time to go but I'm sick of putting my life on hold for work and don't want to not have health insurance if KU. I just have questions everywhere and my minds all over the place. Any thought appreciated.

@beachbunnyxo123 I'm sorry you are having such a hard time This stuff just sucks and you get to be pessimistic on days like today. I totally feel you on all of the questions you have and I wish there was something to say other than there are no "right" answers and you will make a good decision for yourself. Personally, if it were I -- I think I would look for a new job if I hated my current job. At least look around; it's not like you're committing yourself but you could see what else is out there. Also, I want to reassure you about the meds for IVF. I was also totally terrified but @leekat14 helped me get a little less anxious and she was totally right, the meds suck but they aren't nearly as bad as I had built up in my head. They are doable, and the pain is very temporary. If I can do it, you can do it! You're a strong person.
@beachbunnyxo123 I'm sorry girl, i know how you're feeling. I just did all of this last week.
Personally, due to my RE appts and being late to work pretty often, I'm staying put at my job since I've been here a while. I'm also staying put bc my insurance seems to cover a huge chunk of IVF incase we need it (I think they do 10k towards meds and cover everything else). So everything that I'm dealing with right now is a big reason I'm choosing to not look around. I say one step at a time and look at the big picture. Are you doing another IUI or IVF? Go from there...if you're going to do another IUI maybe stay put (if you want). IVF - maybe it's time to start stashing away whatever money you can and then look for other jobs with better coverage while you're doing it. The meds terrify me, a surgery terrifies me. But I mentally accepted that depending on how my conversation with my dr goes tomorrow, IVF might eventually be a reality for us. At first i thought fuck that...I cannot do that, no way. But then I'm thinking about all of the girls on here doing it and the day that I went for my beta they told me they'd be calling me late because they had 8 retrievals that day (EIGHT!) it all hit me. How "common" this is, how many women deal with this shit and do the injections and surgery and transfers. All to get that baby at the end. Every day leading up to it will have been worth it and if I have to take the bumpy road with twists and turns and dead ends so I have to turn around and start over...then so be it. You're stronger than you think, we'll all be here to support you no matter what path you choose.
@beachbunnyxo123 - I'm right there with ya (3 month break, considering moving on to IVF next year and 100% OOP) so... high five? I've used Follistim so I'm not too worried about shots in the stomach (actually doesn't hurt too bad - feels a little weird if you don't let it warm up to room temperature first but no pain). I've never done PIO before, though, and I've heard not so awesome things about it.
@leekat14 I hope your retrieval goes well tomorrow!!
@JuneRoseRuby Yay, glad your US and BW went well today!
@beachbunnyxo123 Oh I am so sorry about the BFN. It sounds like you have so much to think about/consider, and I hope you are able to take some time to do something special for yourself in the meantime. So many creepy hugs to you!
@beachbunnyxo123 so many hugs for the spot you are in. There are pros and cons to staying put and moving on with your job. How is your job right now with missing work for appts? It will probably be easier to do IVF and all those appts with a place that already 'knows' you so they may be more lenient. On the other hand, getting iVF coverage would be clutch, although there is not guarantee you find a job you love that covers it. If it were me, I would stay put for now and find a new job after maternity leave, but thats just me. Also that video made me cry at work.
@50Wife I love that quote so much. It was such a powerful moment in history and it's a phrase that keeps me going today. (I purchased a shirt on Etsy with it and it makes me feel like a warrior woman!) @wishiwaspreggo We are using a known donor and pretty much organizing everything for ourselves, other than the specific paperwork that the clinic gives us. @JuneRoseRuby Yeah, I think that those who donate anonymously have to fill out paperwork on their end that the families never see. I'm going to try to ask again for a specific template.

I hope it's ok for me to hang out with you ladies! I know I'm not as many cycles into this as many of you, but I'm 36 (nearly 37), so I'm starting testing now. I still like posting in the dailies, but it's getting harder as more and more people get BFPs and move on. If this isn't the right thread for me, please do let me know.
Diagnosis (If you've been): AMA, still testing
Cycle/CD: cycle 7/cd 7
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Last cycle I had progesterone, AMH, and prolactin tested at 8 dpo, this cycle I had cd 3 bw (FSH, LH, estradiol) and I have an HSG scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Follow up appt with my ob/gyn scheduled for 10/5, and initial consult with an RE 10/17. MH has already had an SA done.
How are things going? Ok. I'm happy that I'm getting all these tests done to hopefully figure out what's going on, but some days I feel sad and stressed out that this is necessary. Also, I'm not sure how to interpret the results of all the tests at this point, even with the ranges provided on the patient portal, so I'm anxious to meet with the RE and understand everything better.
Any questions? I'm nervous about my HSG tomorrow, so any advice on how to prepare and/or recover afterwards is welcome!

@zwink1 I'm glad you guys have settled on a plan that makes sense for you - it's exciting how close it is!

Our plan is, if I'm not a SS, that I'll call on CD1 and get set up with a medicated IUI in October. Do three of those (if the first two don't work), and then reassess in January if we're going to do IVF.

IUI #1-3 BFN

@RVAmom315 @tamalahoops Is Friends from College good? Should I watch it during IVF?
@tamalahoops @50wife Hugs friends I wish it were easier.

(We decided to just jump into IVF with donor sperm to give ourselves the best chance, too.)
@50Wife I hope your doctor visit goes well tomorrow and that the adage of the third time being the charm is true for you.
@tamalahoops I'm sorry about AF, especially after your loss. We are always here if you need a place to vent.

What is ISWTE? May need to get a copy for myself.
@wishiwaspreggo We are using a known donor and pretty much organizing everything for ourselves, other than the specific paperwork that the clinic gives us.
@JuneRoseRuby Yeah, I think that those who donate anonymously have to fill out paperwork on their end that the families never see. I'm going to try to ask again for a specific template.

I went to the Renaissance Festival yesterday and watched pugs, corgis, and dachshunds race. It was pretty hilarious. If this link works, there's video of the one of the corgi races: https://www.facebook.com/minnesotarenaissancefestival/videos/10155704783614650/
