Re: STM+ Check-in 9/20

  • @hollieileen Maybe a few months? Kids always seems to take things out on mom more than anyone else. We're like their emotional punching bag.

  • @hcrish 2 years?? That's awesome!  Mine was about a year which was great!

@mommabmb & @Ceridwen77 I feel y'all on the new car deal. I drive a big SUV and now I'm going to have to move to Suburban because of what I do and traveling home. I'm not looking forward to driving a bus  :#

I have a Yukon but with 3 it means the backseat will be up and no trunk space. I might be sizing up to Yukon XL (Suburban equivalent) too.
  • I am currently 5 weeks and a few days.

    1 daughter, just turned  2..

I'm not worried about having 2, only about delivering!

Excited to give my husband and daughter a new family member!

    We don't watch T.V.
  • @dinonugget I drove a Tahoe pre-kids. I'm used to driving trucks. This is only my second but I go home a LOT and with 2 car seats, 2 dogs, my entire inventory, clothing racks, a pack n play AND luggage...I know the Tahoe won't be big enough  :D it's just a lot to drive daily. My Tahoe was so easy to drive. Until I totaled it. Eek.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?
Sleep is the biggest challenge. We are still not sleeping through the night. I still nurse DD  when we are together but at this point I am thinking of weaning because my boobs need a little break between kids.
Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM:
I cant wait to see DD as a big sister.
GTKY: TV show you're most looking forward to this fall?
This is US, The Good Place, and American Housewife.
  • @Poppy0419 I absolutely love my Yukon! It doesn't drive like a big SUV at all. If we had the bench seat in the second row I think we could make it work but we got the captains chairs as we were only planning on 2. We already fill the trunk when we travel between bags, stroller, pack n play,  and ice chest so I can't imagine fitting everything with part of the third up to fit DS1.

    How far along are you?
Somewhere between 4 and 5 weeks

How old are your other kids?
    My daughter is 9 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?
A lot of them!  I want to breastfeed my daughter for at least a year so I'm hoping my milk supply doesn't go away by then or that she doesn't start to refuse it.  Has anyone else nursed while pregnant?

Also, I had a pretty bad case of the baby blues last time and I can't imagine having to take care of a 17 month old and a newborn while feeling the way I did.  So I'm a little nervous about the first couple of weeks postpartum.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM:
A lot of these, too!  I really can't wait to see my daughter as a big sister!  And I'm so curious to see what another one of our babies will look like - especially if it's a boy.

GTKY: TV show you're most looking forward to this fall?
The Good Place, The Walking Dead, and all of my guilty pleasure MTV shows - Real World, The Challenge, and Are You The One..love em!

PS - I got my period after 3 months last time!!! That totally sucked
  • How far along are you? 5+1

How old are your other kids? DD turned 1 yesterday

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now? DD is a really easy baby, so I'm concerned we're not prepared for a "real" baby. I'm also not really thrilled at the thought of two in diapers since we currently use cloth.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: I'm actually kind of happy that they'll be so close together in age. I think the rewards will be worth the challenges.

GTKY: TV show you're most looking forward to this fall? I don't really watch TV right now since a ton of my free time is spent studying and doing schoolwork for nursing school. I miss it!

@fraufarbissina AF came back in 3 months for me too last time! I'd barely stopped dealing with lochia. Awful!
  • @fraufarbissina I'm still nursing my 18m/o Some days it really sucks, but most days it doesn't. I had to cut him back to three times a day though. I wouldn't have been able to do that at nine months.
  • @ivyvines6 yeah I'm just gonna take it one day at a time and talk to her ped about possibly upping solid food or supplementing with formula if I need to.  I hate that that part of our relationship may be coming to an end :(

Unless there's a medical reason such as nursing causing bleeding or cramping, and your emotional health is fine, there's usually not a reason to quit.
  • We gave up and just bought a full size van.   :D

@ivyvines6  I hope you're right.  My SIL had to switch to formula once she was pregnant because her first daughter started to refuse to nurse so I was thinking that it was a pretty common thing.  But maybe not!
  • @fraufarbissina I was kind of planning on the refusal eventually as DS is 15 months old and ok to stop nursing. So far, no change. We shall see I guess

Oh that could be because her milk changed to colostrum.
  • @artlea2013 @ivyvines6 I'm sure everyone's different, just like everything else.  Nothin we can do but wait and see how it goes.
  • @fraufarbissina I've nursed to the end of three pregnancies. None of my kids seemed bothered by my milk while pregnant. That said, I didn't enjoy nursing and had somewhat of an aversion, but obviously not too bad! I know lots and lots of women who tandem nurse too. That seems draining to me, but whatever works, works!

  • @gildah that's good to know...I'm feeling much better about this!
  • I tandem nursed number one and two. It was way easier for me to just lay there on the couch instead of having to parent number one while number two nursed.

How old are your other kids?
    DD is 3

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?
Question for STMs: has anyone had their 30+ pound toddler jump on their stomach? I was laying on the floor with my eyes closed and here comes my tornado out of no where and she straddles me and jumps down. Should I be concerned? I know there is a lot of fluid and layers on there to protect the little mini human. Just looking for reassurance.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM:
Told my parents and they're so excited!

GTKY: TV show you're most looking forward to this fall?
Only show we religiously watch is The Walking Dead.
  • @momo214 yes my son jumps on me constantly, including belly recently. I didn't worry bc the pelvic bone adds extra protection in the first 11-12ish weeks.
  • @hollieileen Thanks! Helps ease my worries.

How old are your other kids? 10 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now? DD is going through A phase (please be a phase) of only wanting me when she wakes up in the middle of the night and wailing when H tries. I'm trying to just focus on the cuddles I get but I'm exhausted.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: I can't wait for newborn snuggles and to watch DD interact with him/her.

GTKY: TV show you're most looking forward to this fall? Outlander and Are You the One? I love that hot mess show.

How old are your other kids? 11.5 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now? I'm a little nervous about having two under two.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: I think I'm still in shock, but I'm excited that DD will have a sibling close in age. My closest sibling is 8 years younger and H is an only child.

GTKY: TV show you're most looking forward to this fall? Grey's. I've watched it loyally since the first episode aired.

  • @dinonugget This is my poor Infiniti loaded down  :D that's why I'm thinking I need to go Suburban. I can't get a pack n play or anything in here. And I have double this now. Is it weird to ask during a test drive if we can load up 2 car seats and my inventory? Or car seats and strollers and take it grocery shopping?

  • @Poppy0419 not at all weird! We bought the Yukon when I was pregnant with DS2 and we brought the infant car seat with us when shopping. DH is tall and it's a struggle to find a car where there's enough room in the front with a rear facing car seat. We got a few weird looks but definitely helped us make a decision!
  • How far along are you?
Not sure exactly, my cycle was really irregular but I think around 5-7 weeks

How old are your other kids?
My July 2015 baby is 2

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?
Just a lot of mom guilt that I won't be able to give ds 100% of my attention anymore. I know all moms feel like this but seriously how will i ever love anyone as much as I love my first kid?!?

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM?
Nope, not yet lol. Just a lot of fear and anxiety!!

GTKY: TV show you're most looking forward to this fall?

My house is already a wild place. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle 3 crazy kids and my super goofy husband. We also need a new vehicle. We can't fit 3 car seats across the back seat of our Subaru
