We just found out one of my brothers lost everything to Irma. His home is gone, all of their belongings. They're staying with his wife's oldest daughter now until they can find a new place but ugh. My heart hurts.
I'm so sorry to hear this. How awful!
***March '18 October Siggy Challenge: Halloween Costume Fails***
Have we heard from @barrelocarol since she went off the grid?
I came here wondering exactly that.
When she said she was going off grid and deleting the app to save power, I realllllllly wanted to suggest she take the number of someone here she felt a particular connection to so she could send a quick text when she got a chance letting us know she's okay, but it felt creepy interwebby to say that. Now I wish I had. I really hope she's doing well and comes back soon
***March '18 October Siggy Challenge: Halloween Costume Fails***
My cousin and other brother both lost power in the storm and haven't gotten it back yet. She may still be off the grid, or working without a charged cell to begin with. And depending on damages, she may be worrying about a hundred other things. Let's try not to freak out too much and cross or fingers she's back in a couple days
@ShawnnaO sorry to hear about your brother. Hopefully he finds a place soon!
@SoraLk so sorry for all the stress your going through. My SO was in a trade awhile ago that he got laid off all the time. Was the most stressful situation. If you need an ear message me.
@ShawnnaO I understand. And thanks girl...it's just crazy because people are out here losing everything. And I feel compelled to help since we just went through Harvey. Keep us updated!
My fiance just lost his job, and I've been a mess since he told me yesterday. We have so much we are saving up for (wedding & baby), and then I just found out Monday that I need to replace the air compressor in my car because it's rattling and likely causing interior damage. That's going to be a hefty bill, and I decided to dip into our savings to get it fixed on Friday. But now that he's out of work I'm panicking that we won't be able to save up enough in time for baby and the wedding.
Worrying about income is hard enough not being pregnant. I am so sorry...when it rains it pours sometimes.
@cford08@kalawa@DDRRT1982 Thank you for all the kind words. I think my first step will be to talk with my fiance about my concerns some more. Funny thing...my dad had literally just asked me the day before my fiance was laid off if I needed help paying for the repair and originally I turned him down. I think for my own sanity I might take him up on the offer.

@ShawnnaO sorry about your family! My random. Is that all this week I felt fine...then at around 10:30 I got hit with this terrible cold. I could barely finish the workday. I've never had a cold hit me that fast out of nowhere. And I can't miss any days. Not sure what I'll do
@SoraLk I'm so sorry. I hope he can find something relatively quickly.
Hope we hear from our FL moms soon!
And just to complain about my own first world problem when others have so much more going on in their lives...
But I am dying to see DD's first year pics. We took them 2.8 weeks ago and I haven't even gotten a sneak peak! I'm just worried this means that we didn't get any good ones because DD wasn't in the best mood. I just messaged our photographer asking for an ETA. I swear I'm normally a good and patient client! But for NB and 6mo pics we had the whole gallery by now!

@becausescience That seems kind of long. I am a photographer and I usually have a sneak peek up within a day or two and I try to deliver gallery within a 7-10 days.
I bought a fancy new laptop this week, and I am super struggling right now. It'll be great when it's all set up, but in the meantime, downloading programs and permissions and drivers and having to remember passwords when my old laptop remembered them all for me...this might actually kill me. But really. It's soooo pretty.

@triplejplus1 This is definitely longer than our last sessions. But she got back to me and hopes to have them ready by Saturday! I think she went on vacation in August so is still playing a bit of catch up, which I'm fine with, I just wanted to know when!

DW and i might have settled on a name tonight, and i am now swinging wildly between "i wanna tell everyone!" And "i cant tell anyone until its too late for them to say anything".
Please say a prayer for us St. Louis peeps(pretty sure there's a few of us). A not guilty verdict of pre meditated murder was announced this morning of a policeman that shot and killed an African American man in 2011. For weeks since the trial, there have been threats of 'tearing the city apart, shutting down downtown, cardinals games, making it worse than Ferguson', etc. if found not guilty. My officemates ex is a STL cop so we've been getting all the insight from him. I work pretty close to downtown and they have said they can call a mandatory stay if they have to. Im scared and nervous of what could happen and how bad it could get. It's definitely not the kind of stress we need right now!
@chasingroygbiv Fellow short person! Late to see your question but I second the suggestion for Macy's/Motherhood for jeans. I am long-torso'd so I can wear Old Navy shirts and yoga pants are OK since I don't mind stepping on the bottoms, but the cheap dress I ordered from there is huge and for jeans I got the smallest size available at Macy's/Motherhood and they're perfect. Was kind of funny though at our local Macy's they really hid the maternity stuff and it was only like 3 racks. Took me awhile to find it but it was there.
@ShawnnaO I'm so sorry about your brother's home! My mom, and aunt and uncle's homes were both destroyed in Ike. It's such a tough situation and took them forever to rebuild. I hope he's able to get through this next bit without abusing anyone's offers for help.
@SoraLk So sorry to hear about your fiance's job. MH was laid off during the 2008-9 recession and we had a rough go for a bit and ended up moving states a couple times as a result, but eventually it worked out. Hopefully he'll get something better soon.
@calecorvus Yeah, that's what we're like with names too. We decided to be really selective with who we tell (ie. we told my parents but not MH's). We might loosen it up once we know their sexes but we're very set on our names and so afraid of someone having a negative reaction to one of them that we will never forget.
@SoraLk I am sorry to hear about your finances job, I know that is a stressful! I hope he finds a great job soon!
@ShawnnaO I am so sorry to hear about your brother losing everything.
@npkat I live in Baton Rouge ( you may have heard of Alton Sterling, similar situation) and we had rioting and protests when the shooting first happened, so we were scared to death when we started hearing a few days before the indictment decision was handed down how certain extremist groups were going to "burn the city" and similar threats if on the day of the decision the cops were not indicted. My husband is firefighter and works closely with police so they were getting this info directly from the cops. The day came, the officers were not indicted, and there were only a few protests where people were arrested. The police and government officials were well prepared though just in case. I'm betting the STL police are well prepared also and hopefully you all will just get a few protests as well.
Me: 36 DH: 37 Married: 5.27.16 Baby Boy Due: 3.18.18
@npkat I'm in STL too and also a little nervous. I'm not sure what kind of work you do, but do you think you might be able to leave early? I work in the city too, and we had a company-wide email sent earlier that told us we could leave at noon. Not sure if you might have that same option? I totally get the protests, but I really hope everything stays peaceful.
Hopefully everything stays peaceful! My mom just texted me to tell me that my parent's trailer in Bonita Springs, Florida has some pretty extensive damage. They are in a trailer park called Citrus Park, and this is the second flood in like 3 weeks or something. But they didn't pay much for it luckily. I just feel sad for them as it's there, get away from -30 celcius Canadian winter, home.
@stlbuckeye132 I work at SLU hospital and originally had planned to come see my patients and get them settled for the day then go home early, but then got informed that I was not allowed to leave until 3 as essential personnel for the hospital, and I have to be on call all weekend in case a true emergency happens. The hospital was targeted during the Micheal Brown case so they are already preparing and putting up special decontamination tents, etc. I pray it stays peaceful.
So...I had a strange dream today during my nap. That I had a penis. Yup. A penis. We are team green but this is now the third boy dream I've had. So I'm pretty sure this baby is a boy. Otherwise I have no idea why I dreamt I had a penis...
@justkeeptrying I find it amazing that you can remember all of your dreams! I never do. maybe when i first wake up.... but they are long gone from my memory by the time I start my day
Oh no, I finally caught my wife's headcold. I normally only get sick once, maybe twice a year, so I'm getting all man-flu over here right now xD Obviously this is the end of the world and I am dying.
@becausescience I'm dreading this. Also, not looking forward to measuring out my back seat and trying to fit 3 car seats. One's just a small booster though.
@kalawa Yeah, I'm having a really hard time finding a side by side double stroller that accepts a Britax car seat.
Also WTF Britax?! Why would you make a double stroller that doesn't accept YOUR OWN CARSEAT?! The 2017 B-Agile double stroller isn't carseat compatible at all! Stroller searching is getting very frustrating. I feel like I'm going to have to get a BOB in order to use my carseat - but will never run with it (because running is the worst ). Maybe I can just pray that the 2018 models will get their act together?
Me: 30 H: 30 Dx: PCOS Married: June 2013 TTC#1: January 2015 BFP #1 8/24/15 | MC 9/3/15 at 6w2d BFP #2: 12/12/15 | DD born 8/29/16 TTC#2: June 2017 BFP #3: 7/15/17 | DS born 3/20/18
@becausescience I have the double BOB and LOVE it! I did buy it primarily for running, but I use it everywhere: the zoo, the mall, taking the kids to school, the beach; literally, everywhere.
Do I need a double stroller? I have an active little boy who will be 2y4m when baby 2 will arrive. He walks everywhere bc he hates to be strapped in. If we are at a place where I need to put him in one I figured I'd baby wear the baby! Is this a crazy idea?
@bravoandprosecco I'm not the expert on this, but I know my sisters oldest was about that age when her second was born and she got one that the older boy could stand up in the back instead of a double stroller
@bravoandprosecco I also saw one where the older kid could sit or stand called the Joovy Caboose. I'll have a 19mo gap so I'm going with a regular double, but this kind looks like such a great option. It probably depends on what you'll use the stroller for the most.
@runnergirl2015 Do you ever feel like the BOB is a little too much sometimes? I feel like it is huge! I think I'll drag DH to Buy Buy Baby soon to take a look in person at them. I have heard that they are super easy to push.
Me: 30 H: 30 Dx: PCOS Married: June 2013 TTC#1: January 2015 BFP #1 8/24/15 | MC 9/3/15 at 6w2d BFP #2: 12/12/15 | DD born 8/29/16 TTC#2: June 2017 BFP #3: 7/15/17 | DS born 3/20/18
@becausescience I would buy a double BOB even if we didn't run with it. We forgot our stroller 2 weeks ago when we went to the zoo, so we borrowed the sit-n-stand from my parents (they use it for grand kids). It was THE worst. We really missed how freakishly easy the BOB is to push and maneuver. Hands down, it has been the best buy we made with babies!!
@bravoandprosecco DD was 26 months when DS was born, and she was similar to what your LO sounds like. She just turned 4, and she'll still go in the double if we spend a day at the zoo, fair, longer walking trips to stores/parks, etc. She loves to run and walk with me, but sometimes her little legs just wear out. If she doesn't want to sit in it, it's also a great spot to throw my stuff
@becausescience It's definitely wide. But I can fit it into handicapped bathrooms and changing rooms when I need to. It's so easy to maneuver and push, I highly recommend it. My 8 year old will even ride on the front of it sometimes (when the other 2 are in the seats) and I'm still able to push it with ease. It's also great for carrying all our stuff when we do outings like Disneyland or the zoo.
Thanks ladies, I think some sort of sit and stand sounds good, I'll look for one used. I'm work full time so I think we would only use it on this big trips to the zoo and things like that!
Forgive me for barging back in...I'm back! Got power in a few days and that was glorious. Just got WiFi today and it was heavenly to spend pure time with my family just chit chatting and playing.
Edited bc I literally barged back in without reading. @ShawnnaO That's horrible! I'm so sorry to hear this!
You ladies are just... incredible. Thank you for being my internet friends.
Edited again bc I know stranger danger but anyone who is ready to be friends in real life, I'm up for texting! Pardon my creepiness. I'm still emotional for various reasons, very much including pregnancy.
Hi ladies! Checking in to let you all know we are safe and sound in South Florida. I haven't heard from @barrelocarol but maybe she's still without power. Something like 6 million people lost power in Florida. Some lost so much more.
Thank you @ShawnnaO and @becausescience and everyone thinking of us down here. We got electricity back and we're slowly starting to resume normal life. We were fortunate that the worst of the storm didn't come our way.
@ShawnnaO I am so sorry to hear your borther lost everything. If he hasn't done so, he can apply for aid through FEMA as well.
