@justsuzie took me a minute to figure any of those out! I have a Jayden, jaidon, and a jaydin this year. All pronounced exactly the same. I try for the sake of the kids to pronounce their names correctly, but teachers are only human!
I'm a kindergarten teacher and I feel like figuring out how to pronounce the students names isn't too bad. It's nothing compared to figuring out what they are saying in the narrative writing though haha! Some interesting ones that take the cake are: Ryghtous (righteous), Yndypyndynce (indepentence) ~~~~~~~~ Any whoo~ These are my names.
If you were to have any name your heart desired for your baby what would it be? And why won't you use it? I would have liked to use a Japanese name, but I think it would be nice as a middle name (As a kid I always wished my name was more ethnic. Allison is my first name and my middle name is Miyeko. I am Japanese American by the way haha!)
Now give the realistic choices you might actually end up with? Girls: Amy, April, Artemis (thats as unusual as I get with names) Boy: Atticus, Austin, Archer, Adrian (not my DH's favorite out of the list)
What style of names do you like? Girl names I normally like names that aren't too girly and my DH likes that they begin with A (our names are Allison and Andrew). Boy names are a different story I'm not too picky I just don't want it to be long and again my DH likes A names haha!
If you're comfortable sharing your other children's names what are they? Do you have a sibset in mind? no not really LOL
I definitely agree with the why spelling is important thread. My cousin's (now-ex) wife named their daughter Rachelle, pronounced Rachel. And then gets mad when people call her Ra-shell. She spelled it Rachelle because that's the way it's spelled in French (I don't speak French, so I don't even know if that's correct.) Then I think to myself, yes that's how it's spelled in French, but you know how it's pronounced in French? Probably Ra-shell!!! You can't name your son Juan and pronounce it John. It doesn't work that way. Also, as an ER nurse, I've seen some really interesting names. Geopardie (Jeopardy), D'Phynest (de finest) and D'Lovelyest (siblings), Stirling Silver, Triage, Brexion (pronounced Bra-zhon), those are a few that come to mind.

@firefliesandfjords Literally lol'd BOB!!!! @sparkymcgeee Prob because you bullied someone with the same name sometime this week. (I lurk the drama but usually do not participate.)
@glitzandglitter my dad, Grandpa and great grandpa all have the middle name Cullen which is why I wanted to use it but DH doesn't love it. If I pushed it he'd say yes but I don't want him resenting me Everytime he says our son's name. Also I love the game Dragon Age Inquisition and Cullen is a total Bad ass so I liked the connection there too

But everyone would think Twilight. I personally would steer clear of it even though it's a family name. Which sucks.
Being a teacher definitely makes it more difficult. I've had an Araya (middle name Sunshine), Heavenly (mn Angel), Princess, Tsara, Abygayle, Abbigalye, Desyre, Destiny, and my personal pet peeve, Nevaeh.
@createmagic14 Nevaeh is the worst!!! It's so funny you wrote about Sunshine as a middle name. When my grandfather was in high school, he had to read a poem out loud to the class and it was called "Sunshine", so from then on, everyone called him Sunshine. I don't think I ever heard anyone call him John. I mentioned to MH that I would love to name my daughter Catherine (my grandma's name) Sunshine. I would never actually do it, anyway, but needless to say he vetoed it. Hard.

If you were to have any name your heart desired for your baby what would it be? And why won't you use it? Iris. LOVE LOVE LOVE. But it rhymes with our son's name... DH doesn't care and still wants to use it, but I can't imagine getting over that.. I love Lucy and Olive but have nieces with those so can't use. I like Sayer or Sawyer for a boy but DH does not.
Now give the realistic choices you might actually end up with? Girls are hard for us, and we both have certain things we love or don't love about them (none as much as Iris) so this is a work in progress... but we both like Fiona, Arden, Leona, Caroline. Middle will be Eileen. For boys, Arlo or Jasper middle Allen.
What style of names do you like? Classic, not made up or misspelled. But not super popular.
If you're comfortable sharing your other children's names what are they? DS is Silas.
I don't hate suggestions and I don't mind criticism. I'm used to it from the name board
@heelsidehero I encorporated her middle name (Lynn) into our girl's name pick, Coralynn. Her maiden name was Allen, which is also my maiden name. Yep, she married an Allen, no relation though. DH isn't a huge fan of "Allen", so we may not use it anyways.
If you were to have any name your heart desired for your baby what would it be? And why won't you use it? ~ I was hoping to have a nature themed name, Iris, Ivy, Hazel, Oakley, Aspen, Aster. Also liked Iona for a girl. I seemed to be partial to Vowel beginnings.
Now give the realistic choices you might actually end up with? ~ honestly I think we will use the name Brecken for a boy. I would call him Becks for short. My SO likes that name regardless of gender. But I prefer the name Remy for either a boy or girl but it will probably be the name of our daughter if thats what we are having. These are the only 2 names we both really like.
What style of names do you like? ~ Obviously unique, yet also simple. I prefer short, sweet, & unique!
If you're comfortable sharing your other children's names what are they? Do you have a sibset in mind? ~ Our sons name is Kale James. Yes Kale like the veggie, but in all fairness, I didn't put that together until after he was born and we got asked if we named him after the cabbage. That's why I originally wanted a nature themed name. We will use a "J" middle name regardless, both my SO and I have "J" middle names.
If you were to have any name your heart desired for your baby what would it be? And why won't you use it? I like Ellie for a girl, but it got vetoed right away.
Now give the realistic choices you might actually end up with? Boy names we have narrowed down to Sebastian and Declan. Middle name will be Oliver after my fiances grandfather (his middle name was also Oliver). Girl names aren't going so well. This list is currently Leighton, Leilani, or Quinn with middle name Olivia or Annora. I'm sure I'll get slaughtered for those choices though, everyone seems to hate them. Hoping for a boy after two girls so maybe I won't have to find a girl name after all.
What style of names do you like? Nothing super common. I don't want my child to have 3 others with the same name in their class.
If you're comfortable sharing your other children's names what are they? Do you have a sibset in mind? No sibset in mind. My girls names both start with the same letter (not purposely).
1. I love Lucy for a girl but my SIL (who we are VERY close to and see 4-5 times a mo) has a dog named Lucy and I just can't seem to get past that.
2. For a boy we are pretty set in Daniel Thomas. It's FIL's first name and I've always liked it. For a girl we aren't so sure. We like Caroline and Jane best so far.
3. No real preference but I have noticed we tend to lean pretty traditional.
4. None in mind but I do like the sibling sharing a first letter theme.
We like the name Drew Paxos for a boy. (Paxos after a very dear family friend.) My daughter is Taylor Mae. We like names that could be gender neutral.
We are completely lost with a girl name this time around. We agreed on Kailey for DD1, until we realized we disagreed with the spelling. So maybe if he's changed his mind...... haha!

If you were to have any name your heart desired for your baby what would it be? And why won't you use it? For a boy: Connor, For a girl: Greer - DH strongly dislikes both and Connor is very popular around us.
Now give the realistic choices you might actually end up with? Theodore (though this is getting popular too) and I have no other boy names I like so that could be hard. For a girl IDK I have used the two girl names I really love!
What style of names do you like? My two girls are named after older family members, at least 3 generations back. So classic.
If you're comfortable sharing your other children's names what are they? Do you have a sibset in mind? DD #1 is Caroline (no nickname) and DD#2 is Magdalena (Maggie) pronounced Mag-dah-lay-nah
We were team green last time and ended up with a DD, so will probably use our previously selected boy name if this one is a boy - Calvin. But I'm keeping an open mind and reading lists like this provides lots of options.
For girl names I'm starting from scratch as we used our picks on DD for first and middle. I would love honest opinions on the following. We like names that are more unique but are recognizable and easy to spell and pronounce.
Milana Verona Valencia Alexandria (yes this is a city-themed list, not necessarily what we're going for, but a place to start).

I hope you were serious about honest opinions. I don't really care for any of the names on the list. Especially Milana. It is just too close to Melania and I don't even hate on her but it will be associated with FLOTUS. The best of the list is Alexandria and Valencia. Alex and Val are cute nicknames. But that said, I like it more than Paris or London or York or Jersey. Why have I heard all of those before???

Definitely open to honest opinions and I had the same Melania association off the bat and was wondering if someone else would. Sucks that Trump has ruined yet another thing for me. Sigh. Thanks for your opinion.

I also love the name Brooklyn, but I'd never use it... Maybe if I ever own a dog again?
If you were to have any name your heart desired for your baby what would it be? And why won't you use it? I really like Camden for a boy and Reese for a girl but DH vetoed both of those. He's really picky.
Now give the realistic choices you might actually end up with? I actually think we might use Cameron either way (except Camryn or "Cami" for a girl).
What style of names do you like? not really popular but not crazy lol
If you're comfortable sharing your other children's names what are they? Do you have a sibset in mind? My DS is Coleson and my daughter is Madalyn. I feel like I have to keep the "ending in an n" name thing going.
If you were to have any name your heart desired for your baby what would it be? And why won't you use it? For a girl Louisa because I love it but my husband does not and for a boy Evan it's my husbands name and he's not down with the whole Jr thing
Now give the realistic choices you might actually end up with? For a girl Penelope (Penny or Nel) and Theodore (Theo or Teddy) for a boy
What style of names do you like? Old fashioned that can be shortened to cute names
If you're comfortable sharing your other children's names what are they? Do you have a sibset in mind? DD #1 is Isabella, Bella for short she's 8 and DD #2 is Ellinor but we call her Elli she's a fiery 22 Month old
Wow Christidixon our choices are so similar!! I had no idea Theodore was such a popular choice... guess that's off the list too. And my second daughter, also 22m has middle name Lenore! Haha.
@ceridwen77 I also had the Melania reference right away. Maybe Milan would be better? I still don't love it, but it would definitely not be associated with FLOTUS. And I agree, I don't really like any of those names. Alexandria isn't bad, just not my personal style. I would pick Alexandra over Alexandria.

Stuck in the box...
It's not just Sunshine as her middle name... it's that her name was literally "A Ray of Sunshine" (Araya Sunshine). Fortunately, she really was a ray of sunshine in class.

Some names I have pronounced incorrectly or always spelled wrong....
Cameryn
Teighan
Shianne
Payton
Reilly
Spelling does matter!
My instinct is "tee-gan", but nowadays it could be pronounced "Bob".
