@frenchiekinplusone I always tell my boss first, but just because I don't want her to feel like I went over her head to HR. I am an overthinker though!

This. When I worked in an office it was an unwritten rule to tell your boss first. It was a courtesy thing so he/she didn't hear it from someone else first.

That's true - I guess you need to know the politics of your office and factor that in as well. I'll probably tell my bosses within the same day or next day after HR and would ask HR not to say anything until then - but my bosses are older dudes and I don't think they'd feel offended in any way.
Has anyone had to buy new bras yet? I'm overflowing but feel 9w6d is really early.
I am on the small size (32C) and I couldn't fit into my bras at 5 weeks. I went to target and got bra extenders. It was like $7 for two and they're making it more bearable, but really it's the actual cup that needs to be bigger so I'm wearing sports bras as much as I can get away with.
@g_amoss I'm in the same boat with bras. I definitely need to get a bigger cup size, and I'm debating whether I should go up a band size as well. I think my ribcage expanded a bit during my last pregnancy, but I'm not 100% sure on that since I was wearing too big of a band to begin with. All my smaller band bras do still fit, but the cups are at least 2 sizes too small now.
Oh hmm I am new to the corporate world and didn't realize telling HR was a thing.
In my last job I was in HR. Always good to tell them, in case you have appointments or call in sick. If push came to shove, FMLA could be important to protect your job. And usually they know more about benefits, etc.
@g_amoss@codingchildhood Yeah my bras are not holding up. I've been squishing into sports bras but that won't last long. My issue is I'm a small band big cup size, so I'm hoping to go up a band size so I can shop in stores still to try them on!
Am I the only one that finishes a meal and wonders when it'll be time to eat again? Its like my body doesn't even understand the concept of I just fed you!

@ekendall09 I feel that way if I eat really small meals throughout the day. I'll finish one thing and immediately start wondering what else I should eat later. If I make the mistake of having a normal-sized lunch or dinner, I spend about 2 hours wondering if I'm going to puke. I just can't seem to fit the same quantity in there that I used to!
@kmalls i've switched to the opposite. The small meals just weren't cutting it so i've opted for more of the 3 larger and an afternoon snack. I had a wrap and chips for lunch and it didn't even touch my hunger.

Shamefully, me. I often feel like I'm not very hungry but I need to eat something and then I just eat everything and wonder where it all went... oh yeah, my big bloated belly.
thank you for the question of boss vs. HR. My boss is going to be happy for me and all (my firm is primarily filled with nice guys) but he's going to be irritated as we had planned to launch a new portfolio product that I would lead at the beginning of next year. I feel like he's not going to be able to stop himself from asking how long I'm going to be out and I have no idea what our maternity policy is. I hate working with dudes sometimes.
@mcg920 like others said, sounds like you have a retroverted uterus. I learned about it working with Ultrasound techs. It doesn't cause any issues, just may take longer for your belly to "show."
Thanks for all the helpful responses about my uterus (where else can you write that sentence but on a pregnancy forum lol!) I feel much better/reassured.
Oh lord, the bloat is so real. I didn't know I could be this uncomfortable in my own skin. Actual footage of me over the last couple of weeks:
One of my coworkers who knows I am pregnant commented that I am "showing" and I totally caught another coworker of mine who definitely does not know I am pregnant checking out my stomach this morning.
Not sure if this question has already been asked, but I looked around and didnt see it. How many of you are planning on getting the optional First Trimester Screen? If you are a STM and have gotten one before, would you recommend doing it again? Just curious if its worth the extra money or if the regular screening that detects chromosomal abnormalities covered under insurance is sufficient?

I opted to do this last time and am doing it again this time. I have a cousin with spina bifida so it was encouraged, plus I wanted to do it. I do not recall how much was covered last time because we had a different insurance company, but this time our insurance covers it at 100%. For me, if it was not covered I would still probably opt to do it.
Is it the NT scan and blood work you are talking about? I did it even though I didn't have insurance at the time. My stepson has Spina bifida so we were encouraged to do it.

@scuba_chic I guess I'm not really sure what you mean by the First Trimester Screen versus "the regular screening that detects chromosomal abnormalities."
In my experience, an NT scan (which is an ultrasound) combined with the quad screen blood test is offered between 12-13 weeks as an optional way to detect possible abnormalities. I think this is what you mean by First Tri Screen?
Seperately, my OB offers a cell free DNA screening (specifically, Panorama) -- which is a blood test that screens for chromosomal abnormalities as well, and typically at a much higher accuracy rate than the NT + quad screen. This is also optional and is not frequently covered by insurance unless you're high-risk or AMA (though there are certainly exceptions).
My OB highly recommends doing one or the other, but neither is required. I did Panorama with my first, NT + quad screen for my second, and both for this pregnancy. Personally I much prefer cell free DNA screenings over NT scans as I more trust the accuracy of the results.
I had the Panorama test done yesterday. No one in our immediate families have abnormalities but some in my extended family. Rather have the testing just to be prepared.
@scuba_chic we talked about it at my dr appt today and we're going to wait until the 20 week u/s. If something seems off then we'll do the blood test option that was offered (which has a smaller margin of error).
Question - anybody else have to do an early GD test? OB ordered one for me because DS was almost 9 lbs

I am the only person in my company that does my job (or knows how to) and I run our Salesforce software and I thought my boss would spazz so I was nervous about telling him. I also work with 80% guys so I understand the anxiety. Due to having so many appointments I ended up telling him today (7w6d) and he was surprisingly excited. It was so weird. Do whatever feels best for you, and be optimistic

My SO and I are deciding if that's the one we want to use. Did your insurance cover it all? Also, are you guys opting to test for the micro-deletions? My brother is autistic and schizophrenic so my SO wants to do it, but all it shows is if there's a CHANCE that the baby could have it so I don't see the point.

Hmmm that's a really interesting reason for an early GD test. Is there a correlation between larger babies and GD? My daughter (she's 10 months old now) was 8lbs 14oz at birth but my OB didn't mention anything about GD being a concern this pregnancy because of her size.
I did have an early GD test, though, because my BMI is higher this pregnancy than my last two. Damn you, three babies in three years!
@kmalls DS was 8lbs 14oz too! She said because he was "macrosomic" that I might have had GD and they missed it, even though I passed the test. I think she's just being cautious.
I may do the NT scan but I really don't want to do the NIPT, even though I am only 31 and will stay the same age my risk of any trisomy happens to be 1% since my first has t21; they say once it happens you are more likely to have it happen again. This being said, most trisomies are not inherited, for Down Syndrome it is 3% that it is translocation; for t18 its rare, but for t13 its 20% translocation. For most, it's just something that happens to occur during cell division. If you do have a relative who happens to have it, please ask and don't assume it's inherited. (This is my pet peeve).

Yeh just to re-voice what @zombiemom1318 said... I'm pretty sure that there is no way to test for Autism or Schizophrenia before a child is born because there isn't a simple test for these conditions in general (like a blood or saliva test). It's all based on symptom assessment and nuropsych testing.

There is a link between GD and bigger babies, however if she did not actually have GD and had a big baby, then that is due to genes, and having an early test for GD is asinine. My liver never so much as flinched at the GD test, and I had a huge kid. It's genes. I was over 9 lbs when I was born, and my mother didn't have GD either. If my OB insisted on an early test, I'd laugh myself silly

Also tagging @zombiemom1318, take a look at 22q11.2 deletion. It tests that there is a chance. I tried to copy and paste the description but it wouldn't let me. Personally I'm against it because even if it's positive it doesn't tell you okay, your baby will develop XYZ as they grow older. My OB suggested adding Niacin or B3 to my vitamin regimen because they're some suggestive research that says it can help. But really, my brother is older than me and first started showing signs of autism before I was born and the schizophrenia developed when he was 10 (I was 7) so I have literally grown up with both and know how to handle that emotionally and mentally. He is at a disadvantage and only sees my brother at family functions and gets overwhelmed.

Ohhh I see. That's really interesting. So, it's not testing for Autism and Schizophrenia directly... but those diagnoses are correlated with the 22q11.2 deletion and increases the chances if the 22q11.2 deletion is positive.
@hlr8347 I've never heard of this before. That is very interesting. I only know from experience with my son. My son was a late talker and we went through various autism tests with specialists. There was no actual testing just observations.
