September IVF

Re: September IVF

  • @emmasemm We are unexplained infertility (but most likely due to age... I am 43 and DH is 41) I have perfectly awesome numbers across the boards ("the ovaries of someone half your age" according to my RE who always laments I should have been an egg donor earlier in life. haha) Last cycle we triggered at day 12 and retrieved 36 hours later: got 24 retrieved, 18M, 14F and 6 day 6 blasts that went to PGS....1 Normie that we transferred and *tw* lost at 7weeks *end tw*.)

Feeling great about this cycle, and just ready to start.  Only shot Im worried about is my hCg trigger that I will have to give myself (DH out of town on business!) and he always does my IM shots!

  • @cmiller73. Your HCG was IM??  All of mine were subq!  :#
  • Loading the player...
  • @BusinessWife YES :( I had all subQ stims and also my lupron trigger was subQ....but I got the needle in the butt for the micro dose of hCg :( hope I have the guts to do it! #scaredycat
  • Well that's me done with the first injection!
i feel quite lucky as we have the Pergoveris pen, so it was really fast and simple, and I did put a cold pack on for a minute first and it was nice and straightforward (DH said it's down to his great skill of course...  ;) )
4 more nights of injections and then first monitoring...

  • Hey ladies I need help calming myself down. So my retrieval on Tue was cancelled and now I have US tomorrow and potential retrieval Wed. I only have one dose of ganarelix left and if we decide to go one more day I do not know how to get more on time! Plus I am constantly afraid that I will ovulate on my own before ER. It is my first IVF and I don't know what to expect. I need somebody to talk me back into sanity. Crazy lady here

    oh no!

Ok firstly please keep breathing - as you wrote like you did it without taking a single breath.

Secondly what time is your appointment tomorrow?
    And where are you located?

I know there were some ladies in other threads who got meds overnighted and some pharmacies who have them in stock in major cities...
@businesswife @dragonette505 do either of you remember who had the overnight deliveries?

Also I've been told with the dose of Ganarelix I have normally people only need them every 3-4 days and you shouldn't take them within 48 hours. So you might be good anyhow.

I hope and am sure your clinic can help to speed it up - you can't be the first person they've had in this kind of position

  • Thank you @emmasemm!  I think I am just going slightly insane here because it is weekend and I have nothing to distract me. We are in Minneapolis and my clinic made me order only 3 shots of ganerelix so I guess they know what they are doing. It is just hard to wait and not know! My US is at 9:30 am tomorrow, only 17.5 hours to go.

If you have one last dose of Ganirelix you will take that tonight as usual.  If after your scan tomorrow morning, they tell you to trigger Monday night, for a Wednesday retrieval, then you're all set!  I did not take Ganirelix with my trigger as they would have an opposing effect on one another.  So trigger just however and at whatever time(s) your doctor tells you to.  Then you will most likely not have ANY sticks the night before retrieval (weird feeling like you must be forgetting something, but you're not). You'll be fine. ❤

CVS Specialty will overnight, Schrafts will even same-day local, but we didn't actually need it. When my doctor had me stim an extra night and I was out of follistim, I just had to swing by the REs office to pick up a sample cartridge from the nurse.  Your nurses will have your back, too. ;)

  • @DecemberDoll27  If they want you to stim for another day or two, make sure to let your nurse know that you are out of Ganerelix.  They usually have meds on hand just for this.  My cycle started a few days early and we hadn't ordered Cetrotide or the trigger yet, since it was a holiday and I was going to be in Canada when I needed to start it my nurse gave me two doses to get me by until I got back in town.

  • Hi Ladies,

I've been following this thread for a couple days now and  just wanted to introduce myself. As you can tell from the title this is my first time going through IVF. Tonight will be day four of stimulation for me. I had my first scan today and the doctor saw 13 follicles in total. His exact words were "the follicles are slowly waking up".  So I guess it's going to be a long cycle for me. So far I am on three vials of Menopur and 225 Gonal-F.  We might be adding Ganirelix starting today or Tomm depending on BW.  Sending good thoughts and positive vibes everyone's way. Hope it's a successful cycle for all of us :)
  • Woohoo so much movement here! So excited for you ladies! Afm -- we are finally cleared to start ivf!!!! I am so excited I could barf. Today is my last bcp then tomorrow I have a baseline ultrasound and start estrace. The doc wants me to do a few days of estrace priming for POI (a close cousin of DOR) before I start actual stims. The nurse is ordering my meds and we are having the first official day of stims Fri or Sat. I can't believe it!

  • Holy cow! Haven't checked this board since Friday and 49 new posts?! Haha, I need to not skip weekends. :)

Hi, welcome! You may want to go change your username on The Knot so we can recognize you and tag you more easily :)

  • @Knottie8eea7706ad8d0086 Welcome to the group! We are all hoping for lucky month of September here!

@BusinessWife Yey for embrio banking and one more round of IVF!

@sunnyrain2 your numbers are looking good! And thank you for responding to my freak out yesterday! I do not know what I would do without ladies from this group! Fingers crossed for good US on Wednesday!

@emmasemm How are the stims going?

@loverin Praying everything is ok weather wise. How are you holding up there?

AFM, Had my US today and we have 6 good looking follies, they scheduled ER for Wed at 10am ( trigger tonight). I am cautiously optimistic but waiting for them to switch dates on me again... I am still a little disappointed with the low number but I guess 6 is better than none, right? Wondering why my ovaries are not as responsive. I am not even 30 yet, WTF?!

  • Wow ladies - looks like we are all up and running!

@rainbows2018 welcome and fx your stims keep everything waking up not too slowly! How have your first injections been going?

@adirat haha! I know the feeling, I thought my nausea was PMS last week but actually I think it's just pure excitement! Is it weird to be excited to inject with drugs lol??? The end of the week will be here so fast and you're going to be right in there with us all in the hot phase!

@latvaughanash how's it going? Hope you had a good weekend!

@decemberdoll27 Stims so far smooth - just waiting for DH to get home for second injection, let's see if he's as good a shot as he was last night hehe!
And six good looking follies is brilliant - just think quality over quantity! If they know what's good for them they won't dare change your ER date ;-)

@loverin yes, how is it? Has the storm passed you or is it on its way still? I saw all the photos online of the Keys... unbelievable...

  • Thanks ladies! Nice to have a supporting group rooting for one another.

@emmasem so far so good. The Menopur hurt a lot the first day but now I just take my time with the shot so the last two days have been bearable. Per MD Ganirelix is the worst so not looking fwd to that one.

@adirat You're not alone. I'm like a kid on Xmas morning when it comes to doing my shots. Just hoping it all works out in the end.
  • @adirat Yay! We'll be so close! I start meds next Monday! Cracking up that you're getting nauseous just from being so excited. :) BUT I feel you at the same time and will probably be feeling like that myself as next week gets closer!

@emmasemm I had a great weekend, hope you did as well! 2 days left of birth control and I can't wait!

I'm already having to start the tricky balance of figuring out how to be out of the office for work for hours at a time without giving myself away. I have some big meetings next week in addition to the 3 hours I'll be out, even to just get blood tests, so I think that is going to make the time between starting and my retrieval FLY by!

Seriously so excited to see everyone up and going!! Between insurance (or lack there of) to approvals and everything, it's exciting to see everyone get what they needed to start. Welcome @rainbows2018! I'm on night 5 of stims so just a day ahead and also the first time! It's nice to have a group of ladies to go through this with.

AFM we are through the storm and thankfully did not lose power! Super blessed to not have damage like we did last year so just fingers crossed that my ultrasound still happens tomorrow and that it's good results! I'm trying not to be too complacent and also not panic cause I have no idea what it's going to look like. I have no idea how many follicles they'll see or how stimulated they'll be!

When did you ladies start to feel the effects of the stims? We went on a walk tonight around our neighborhood to see how everyone fared and I had a bit of a pinch (like you get when you've been walking or running about) and soreness in my left side that was low and wouldn't go away. I've been sore in my stomach and had headaches but so far haven't had much bloating yet. What have you all experienced?

  • For me reactions to stims are really mild.  I had a little bloating and full feeling in the beginning that went away. I'm on day 9 now and have a mild lower back ache and full feeling that came back.  It doesn't impact my day. I save my time off for ER, I take two days off then.

It is recommended to take it easy as your ovaries get bigger due to the risk of torsion. I only know one person that had an issue with torsion and it was after ER but she was 5 weeks pg and needed surgery due to it.

  • @loverin So glad you guys are OK and came out mostly unscathed!

I would also be interested to hear from the veterans here whether it's necessary to take some time off of work... I had been planning to work from home during stims but got put into a couple meetings so I am wondering...

  • My experience last time was similar to @sunnyrain2 @adirat @loverin I felt full and a bit bloated a few days in, then mostly fine, and a bit more bloated/uncomfortable closer to retrieval.  Nothing I had to take off for except retrieval.  I would have appreciated a day off the next day as well, but I didn't have it, so I pushed through.  It was really fine, mostly just uncomfortable gas pains!  :o
  • Well good news is I can keep going with this cycle! (Hallelujah) He didn't "blow me out" which is good, BUT apparently my ovaries and lining are doing a whole lot of nada (they take after me). He dosed me with the hope of keeping me from overstimulating while he couldn't see me but apparently it wasn't doing a whole lot. I don't know how many he saw on each side but he kept saying 7 and 8 so I'm guessing he was referencing the sizes. (He's not always the best at explaining what he's talking about lol ) So he upped my dosing to 350 unites of follistim so hopefully that kicks those little ladies into gear!

@adirat I'm wondering the same thing. I plan on taking the transfer and retrieval days off for sure, just trying to decide if I want to take more than that. Because I'm hoping to do a fresh transfer that's a lot of sick leave at once so I'm trying to balance it so it isn't obvious to everyone something is going on.

  • Hello,

@loverin I am happy you are not wasting a cycle! Hopfuly higher dose will do the job!
@sunnyrain2 how did the US go today?

AFM, I triggerred yesterday night and ER is tomorrow morning. However... Wait for it! - I woke up to fever, sore throat and runny nose today! ( and I am on antibiotics for f' s sake!) Went to the clinic today anyway for BW to chech if the trigger took and talked to the nurse. They said we will see how I am tomorrow and decide if we will continue with the retrieval! Last time I cried that much was when my ectopic was diagnosed! What is wrong with me?

    Need some positive vibes!

@loverin I am definitely going to take off work for the retrieval and the day after based on advice from ladies here...I hope that's plenty!

Afm -- baseline this morning showed an AFC of 7+7 which is a tad better than my January AFC of 7+5. I guess if I can convert those into 14 eggs that'll be as good as can be expected with my amh and poi dx. I'm on estrace for a few days then start stims Friday or Saturday...eek!

  • I just got a call from my nurse regarding my blood work yesterday. Apparently my LH is a little high, which is not great. If I ovulate before ER I'll be so upset. She said that sometimes Menopur can cause an elevated LH so I have to go in today for bw so they'll have the results at my scan tomorrow. They want to make sure LH isn't rising.

My last antagonist cycle was very different. I had no idea LH could rise while taking Cetrotide

My tentative retrieval date is a Friday-Sunday, so I'm kind of hoping it ends up earlier in the weekend so I don't technically have to miss work, but will take that Monday off if I need to based on what all of you are saying! My doctor doesn't require any sort of bed rest or anything, just wants you to get back to normal life, but I'm never against having a day to take it easy. :)
