Has anyone tried a home doppler? I'm thinking of getting one off of Amazon coming up on my 9 weeks. Reviews as far as how early they work are all over the place. I'm putting myself in a position for more anxiety if I can't find a heartbeat and dont if its worth it or not. On the other hand, I still have several weeks before my next appointment and it might be worth having throughout the rest of the pregnancy anyway. Thoughts?
@scuba_chic I've had a Sonoline B home doppler for all three of my pregnancies. There's a definite learning curve and it took me a while to get the hang of it, but overall I'm glad I have it. You just need to have the mindfrane that not finding the heartbeat every time does NOT equal the worst-case scenario. If you're prone to anxiety it's probably not a great purchase.
If you decide to get one, there are YouTube videos demonstrating how to find the HB. They helped tremendously!
@scuba_chic I have one, got it during my first pregnancy. I like having it. I knew the anxiety of not finding a heartbeat would be bad for me, so I waited a while before getting one, maybe 15 weeks? I haven't bothered to try using it yet and am waiting until I'm farther along to pull it out. It was nice to have even late during pregnancy on days when LO wasn't moving much.

I had one for my DD, and I really enjoyed it. I purposely did not use it until she was about 15 weeks so I didn't freak myself out. It was a ton of fun once I figured out her moves (she liked to dodge and run, but could always be cornered on the lower left). I got so good at it that I helped my OB catch her a couple of times during visits.
It is NOT a device for you to use to monitor HB health, that is best left to a doctor. If you intend to use it that way, it will be mentally unhealthy for you. If you want to use it to connect with your baby, let family hear her/him, and the like, go for it.
I had an OBGYN appointment today and we went over bloodwork. All looked good but they did see that I have no immunity to Parvovirus (5ths disease) and mentioned it's really not good to get it while pregnant, especially during 1st trimester. DS is starting school 2 days a week at the end of the month and now I'm all anxious about it him catching 5ths disease and bringing it home. Anyone have any experience with this? Advice?
@julzy Does it help to know I've never heard of 5ths disease? lol. Is it that common? What is it exactly? I've never heard of it as being something to worry about. (Which doesn't change the fact that it wouldn't be good to get, but just meaning it's something that was never mentioned to me).

The reason your OB warned you about it that it is very dangerous to have a high fever in first tri, and 5ths disease is infamous for that. I would suggest that you make sure you have Tylenol on hand in case you develop a fever. Also, you might want to stock up on hand sanitizer, and institute a policy of having your DS use it the minute he gets into the car or comes home after school.
I have a home Doppler. With my first pregnancy I found the HB at 9weeks. Been trying for almost 2weeks and just got it a few days ago at 8w2d and then just again yesterday 8w4d. No luck today. Been moving around on me. For me a be load off my shoulders but I do have to calm myself constantly when I do t find it.
Another sonoline b Doppler here. If you go into it knowing it's hard to find, and it's normal to not find it consistently before 12 weeks, then get one! I love it and it makes it easier to get through the weeks until I feel movement. Once I feel movement I only check in on quiet days.
