Re: Weekly Questions - 9/3

  • TMI: what's normal discharge wise? I remember a lot with DD in the beginning, but I don't ever recall if it had a yellow tinge.

  • Also, I asked both of these in my Ticker Change, but I'll ask here, too: when is the earliest you've felt movement? I know at 9 weeks it's definitely not happening, but curious to hear others' experiences.

I definitively felt DD by 14 weeks and saw her from the outside by 17 weeks.

For FTMs, it is normal not to feel movement until well into 20 weeks, however I definitely felt my kid move by 14 weeks (which is a tad early even for STMs).  But she turned out to kick like a freaking horse by the time third tri came around.  I knew it wasn't just gas at 14 weeks, because when I tapped my belly, it tapped back.  I almost fell over laughing the first time it happened.

  • Are early US normal? By request? By necessity? Pretty sure I won't get one offered until my anatomy scan.
  • I slept on my neck wrong and am in pain today. Remedies that aren't Tylenol?

  • @tooraloorah I'm having a gross amount of CM this pregnancy and barely had any with my DS pregnancy. I don't know what it's all about!
Also, I didn't feel my son until 19 weeks last time and I had a very active baby and a posterior placenta. This time around I don't know what to expect but I wouldn't expect anything before 14 weeks. I think it's easy to get confused with weird gas and movement the second time around ;) even when non pregnant I had those weird phantom movements after DS pregnancy.
  • @adecembermom2015 my insurance doesn't see them as necessary if you know your due date. That being said, I switched obs and they won't give me a dating but I will talk them into the nt scan due to my dd's genetic condition and heart defect. I think it's a liability on their part if don't push insurance for it.
On movement,  I felt my first around 17 weeks and hubby felt her at 19. But I definitely had phantom movements after she was born and I was breastfeeding.
  • Did not have a hcg test with my dd and wish I hadn't this pg as it's causing me unnecessary anxiety.  Jw what was everyone's level around 7 wks. According to lmp I was 7 wks 3 days,  hcg was 8361 and ob is thinking that makes me closer to 5 (even though I know conception date and explained that to her). I've read online that 8361 is on the lower level for 7 weeks but well over 5 wks.  She isn't giving me an ultrasound now until next week when I'll be,  according to me around 9 wks,  7 wks to her.  Any similar stories? She is also not doing a repeat test so I have to sit here wondering if something is wrong until next week.

I am not sure why she would do just one test and not do a repeating one. You can't tell much just based off of one number. My last beta was drawn at 5w1d and was 3400 for reference. But of course everyone is different and levels rise differently.

I pretty much wore a panty liner my whole last pregnancy, if that makes you feel any better!
  • @saisongbird Have you tried a heat pad?
  • @angiek1 not yet - will try that tonight. Thanks!

  • @adecembermom2015 I was wondering the same thing. I had an initial visit with only blood work but no us or doplar. I won't see my ob until 12 weeks. If I didn't have such horrible morning sickness my pregnancy wouldn't even seem real! I'm a little jealous of all the us pictures.
  • I slept on my neck wrong and am in pain today. Remedies that aren't Tylenol?
Tennis ball massage and counter pressure. My chiro also recommended bio freeze but I have r researched that for safety.
  • Lurking from A17

@adecembermom2015 it varies wildly among practices. I had one to confirm at 8 weeks, one for my NT scan at 12 or 13, and my A/S at 18 (I had others later due to size and BP concerns). But others in my BMB only had 1 U/S. I think they do them less frequently, as a general rule, in Canada as well.

My last pregnancy I had one early due to bleeding concerns. I had my A/S. then another because they were concerned about the umbilical cord and wanted a better look and finally another to determine if he was head down. It seems like many women here are getting very early scans. I'd love one, but doesn't seem like the norm here
  • @tooraloorah I think it was around 17 weeks with DD that I felt movement and could see a little flicker on the outside if I was laying down at the end of the day.  I'm curious this time around if I'll notice sooner since I've been through it before.

  • My question isn't really pregnancy related but did anyone make an April 2018 Facebook group? I had one for my last pg and it was great...

  • I agree re the Facebook group. Especially if you choose to post kid pictures on social media (which I do), you obviously have to be careful.

  • My last bmb moved to Facebook 2 months before our due date last time. Before that with a smaller group of regular/snarky girls we moved to a private TB group. We were about 50 when we moved to Facebook and 40 are left now so that is a decent size!
  • My last BMB eventually did a FB group too, and I really appreciate keeping in touch with my BMB ladies that way and watching all our littles grow. I like the idea of waiting it out a little longer to get to know each other better and our pregnancies are a little farther along.

My last BMB didn't do a FB group until about three months before we were all due.  Even with that level of caution, there were some deeply horrible people in there that pretty much were just there to watch the group burn.  I bailed on it and never looked back.  I most likely will not join any FB groups due to that experience.  It was really difficult to have a colicky baby, and people you thought were your friends telling you that you are doing everything wrong, constantly.

  • @tooraloorah I think I was about 16/18 weeks with my first pregnancy before I felt something that I knew was a kick.
@decembermom2015 early ultrasounds are not usually normal.  Most offices might do an  8 week or 12 week one and then one at 20 weeks.  Each practice has their own protocols.  I had early ones because of my past.

  • Wow @ngolimento that's early! I was wondering when to expect movement as a STM. I didn't feel DS until 24-ish weeks.

@adecembermom2015 They are doing a dating u/s for me because I wasn't 100% of the day of my LMP. But I'll be 10 weeks when that happens.

    @ekendall09 ooo I'm intrigued.

I post too much personal stuff on facebook right now. My last BMB moved around our due dates I think. But I didn't join it.

I just looked back at the list I kept with DD2 and I felt movement first with her at 14w1d. Oddly enough braxton hicks started with her the next day also :P With my first I felt movement around 16 weeks. With both they were visible from the outside by 17-18 weeks, but I was only 100lbs starting out with both of them (and this one).
  • As far as feeling movement goes, the position of the placenta matters too. I had an anterior placenta (placenta was towards the front of my belly) when I was pregnant with DS and I didn't feel any movements until 23 weeks.

Yup, this. I had an anterior placenta with both pregnancies and didn't feel much until well after 20 weeks.

  • +1 for anterior placenta for both my previous pregnancies and not feeling movement until 20+ weeks. I think I felt DS around 22 and DD around 20.

I wonder if I'll have an anterior placenta again? I had difficult delivering my placenta with DD, I wonder if its related to it being anterior? Anyone know?

  • @Danjoly you basically described my experience with DS's BMB exactly. We're still a very active group on facebook with about 45 of us. We've had our share of drama... but we've shaken lose the dead weight over the past couple years. It helps that current events and politics have been hot lately and those things make people show their real, sometimes hateful, colors. I'm thankful they did so we could clean up shop in our group.

@ngolimento I'm so sorry you had such a shitty experience. Women can be awfully hard on one another and I can't help but wonder why there is a sect of women that gets off on tearing other mothers down... they are the one's perpetuating the mommy wars. I would add that I had/have a wonderful experience with DS's BMB. I love the ladies I met here on TB and now live on Facebook with. I live near several of them and have even traveled to meet others. They are my tribe. Unfortunately I didn't join a BMB with DD so I didn't get the same experience with her, but I'm excited for the same thing this time around.
