@scuba_chic Are there any other women in your department that have had to go out on maternity leave? I can understand why your situation would be a little nerve racking.
And this brings me to my soap box. How insane is it that we fear telling our jobs about an amazing life moment?! I think the leadership team at my new company will be cool about my pregnancy, but who knows. I just hate that women getting pregnant is this awkward conversation. Guys can start a new job and announce their wife is pregnant with no worry. Women (or at least I do) have this odd guilt when I tell an employer.
My boss unfortunately is an older, childless women who chose to make work her life...literally. She is married, but her job is her first priority and she works 24/7 and lets everyone know she does. When she is forced to take vacation time, she lets us all know it wont be much of a vacation because she has so much work to do. I was nervous telling her because I think in the back of her mind, she expects me to be like her.
My boss at the job I worked with my first was like this. An unmarried, childless, late 30's women who had no clue what it was like to be happy for other people. She would make comments to me all the time about how much I ate and when I was about 25 weeks pregnant she told me I didn't look pregnant. I thought it was finally a compliment and then she followed it up with you just look like you ate a big bag of potatoes. womp womp...
@MrsMassimilla I think I would have choked on my potato chips if she said that to me! I just wish the U.S. would get more progressive. We should be celebrating new life not making those of us that work feel like we are jerks for wanting to add to our families and take time to care for baby.
@scuba_chic - hopefully she handled the news okay and won't make your life hell between now and delivery. I just learned in my on-boarding (today) to be eligible for maternity leave you have to be employed for six months. I will have my baby in my seventh month of employment. Just made the cut!
@angiek1 Wowzers! Better tell that little one to get cozy and not think about coming early under any circumstances! lol Really happy for you that you don't have to worry about that one. My job allows employees to take maternity leave at any time but if you haven't worked here a year they won't cover your medical benifits for the time you are out. That's over a $600 cost per month not including the lost wages from not working and the general cost of having a kid in the first place.
We are telling rest of immediate family this weekend. I am 8ish weeks. We told immediate friends but won't do a general facebook/extended friend and family announcement until 12 weeks just to be safe. Too my brother is getting married in 2.5 weeks. With my first 2 pregnancies I didn't tell people until 11 or 12 weeks. I'm a little nervous telling people so early. But I've had 2 ultrasounds already with this one.
We will be telling immediate family (parents, siblings) after our first U/S next week.. I'm really looking forward to it. We will likely start telling more friends and extended family whenever we see them in person after the immediate family has been told. I'm not sure that we will even post anything on Facebook due to wanting to be sensitive to those potentially struggling with fertility.
@maureenmce@ngolimento thanks! I don't think I did anything the first time around...I don't even remember specifically announcing it, lol. This is a "rough draft" of it. I'm not sure how exactly I want to lay it out.
We probably won't do a FB announcement... however I could see getting tagged in some photos in December for an xmas gathering or something, but besides that probably not much. I have this thing about people that are friends on fb but are now more like acquaintances in real life knowing too much of my personal life lol... I know, that's weird! I may set up a custom privacy setting and only have family and really close friends on it for later on though, because we don't live that close and some of my family will go to my uncles house and his wife (my aunt in law) will show them facebook photos to get caught up on pictures of kids and stuff.
I am the same way, and I don't think that's weird (or maybe we're both weird ). I'll probably start pairing down my Facebook friends as pictures get posted from others.. I just want to share those memories and information with people that I would at least say "hi" to in public if I saw them.
I'm not even seeing my doctor until after 8 weeks. I'm going to wait to tell until after the first ultrasound so probably just at the start of second trimester.

I'm going to tell my immediate family via FaceTime after our ultrasound next week if everything looks good. DH's mom already knows, he had to tell her because we wouldn't be able to go on a carribean vacation next March, and she was desperately trying to find a way to make it work. All my family lives in WI, and I will be going home in October, so I won't be announcing until after that. I am excited to have an opportunity to tell them in person. We will publicly announce either around Halloween or in November when I'm going to *attempt* a half marathon.
I've told my parents, sister, and a couple of close friends. We're going to tell DH's family next weekend after the first U/S. I'll wait a few more weeks to tell work and everyone else.
Our parents know as well as my husband's siblings and three of my close girlfriends. We ended up having to tell two of our couple friends because I had organized a triple date to a winery/vineyard before I knew I was pregnant and then obviously couldn't partake in all the fun. We will tell everyone else at twelve weeks just because that seems like the safety date in general to share. I'm going to have to give up some of my clients with my business in April so I'm not looking forward to those e-mails.
We told parents right away and our siblings and closest friends shortly there after. My preference is to wait to tell most others at/after 12 weeks. My MIL has already told everyone tho. I love her and i know she's excited but damn lady.
I've told some close friends, my mom, and obviously my husband. TW I've had an early loss, and it made it so much easier that people knew why I withdrew from the world and were able to comfort me. We'll tell my in-laws after the first u/s on the 18th, we'll do something cute on FB after 12 weeks. With my daughter we took a picture of our shoes (all chucks) so we'll probably do the same this time.
I'm going to tell everyone after our u/s at 9 weeks. Once I see the baby and a heartbeat, I'll feel more confident. I probably won't post anything on social media until 12 weeks, but we'll share with everyone really important to us after 9 weeks. A few of my close friends know already b/c we have all been actively trying to get pregnant and it'd be hard to lie about it for 3 months. Also, my grade partner at school knows, in case of a morning sickness emergency.
This is my 4th and as we already have my husbands sister due in oct and his brothers wife due in feb we were very excited and told everyone the day after i POAS. I was only 4wks haha. I did panic at about 7wks thinking what if i MC but it was done by then. About 10 days after my announcement my husbands other sister announced she is due a week after me! So we are all very excited( and hormonal) together.
Im 10wks now and because we announced so early it feels like ive been preg forever already
We have told most immediate family! Those that we have had time to see! I am the youngest of six so it is hard to tell everyone without a large gathering! Hoping for everyone to know by Halloween; close friends and family! I never announced with my first I just told everyone at Easter dinner! I may announce on Facebook with a cute photo of my DD and family dog saying big sisters to be or something! Have not decided! I will be waiting until second trimester if I do! The rainbow theme is a wonderful idea as I had a MC in may of this year! I may just do photos for family and just announce birth on social media!
Today! Baby had a healthy heartbeat at the appointment yesterday at 13 weeks and I am starting to show. So we are going Facebook official. (Providing I get out of my bathrobe and take our announcement picture). I hope all the rest of your announcements go well. Not everyone reacts with the joy you may be feeling, but the few individuals who do are with telling.
I can't wait to see some announcements from the group. I'm all out of creativity around here!! We don't have a plan for when we plan to share...probably about the time I come up with how I want to do it.
Planning to announce around 10/8, right after I hit 13 weeks/2nd trimester. I have a cute idea for a picture using different sized pumpkins for each member of the family, and a teeny tiny one for baby. Really excited! I've been very open about our struggles with infertility so I know most people will be so excited for us!
This was ours, with the caption "at least SOME of us are excited..." 100% DH, lol. A little left of "traditional" but very us, haha. I wanted to wait until after the NT scan but he couldn't! We ended up doing the FB announcement a couple days before the scan so I was like 12+5. All of our family and close friends already knew; we told very close ones prior to 8 weeks and everyone else just as we saw them.
Messaged this to all family and close friends yesterday! Too excited to wait another week! Will wait until much later before all of Facebook knows! Never posted a thing until DD was born!
I'm not planning to announce publicly until completing my half marathon, health permitting, in mid-November. It will be a huge motivater to cross the finish line. Plus I won't have to hear as much negativity about running pregnant.
Close family and friends know now. Starting to tell a little bigger circle of friends. We're hosting Thanksgiving for DH's side (including aunts, uncles and cousins). I'm not normally a formal invitation person, but I'm mailing invites for it, saying 'hosted by Jeremy, Ginger, Baby A & Baby B (due April 9th)' Thought it was a fun way to let them know.
We told our parents, his mother and my father, after our 11w check up after hearing the heartbeat for a second time. (We had come out earlier in our previous pregnancy only because I was so sick and there wasn't much hiding it. We did shoes with the date last time. We wanted to be sure things were good this time around before letting them know.) This time we found cute wooden cut outs and made specialized frames with our first ultrasound. We made our public/social media announcement a week later after notifying our closest friends first. We managed to get our four pups together for a quick photo and I edited it with them telling the great news.
My family recently went on a 16-person cruise. I printed out pictures "of the cruise" and this was the last picture. We have only told our family and close friends. We will go official after my NT scan next week!
Everyone was BEYOND shocked because this is a complete surprise for us all (my daughter is 11 and my son is 8). We recorded my parents' reactions and the video is PRICELESS!!
My daughter made the signs! She loves being involved!!
We've been sloppily telling people for a few weeks now. My H is wanting to announce on FB (I'm 10 weeks) and I just haven't gotten around to making the announcement yet. I wanted to do the safety pins but I only have one right now and haven't spent the time looking for more yet.

We told everyone this past week! Went a little crazy with announcement ideas haha did 3 different pictures. It's our last baby so I wanted to do whatever ideas that came to us =D Think this one is my favorite.
This was a surprised pregnancy so this is how we announced on social media. Told family and best friend in person. Big surprise but we are super excited and happy.
Told the immediate family already and some close friends. Waiting on 12 weeks before we go public. I wasn't going to go public via social media BUT we didn't post anything when DDwas born and forgot to tell done friends she had been born. I just don't want to miss anyone. I think I'm going to def do a pumpkin themed announcement.
