Re: Randoms 7/31

  • I just spent the last couple hours at my daughter's teacher meet and greet. I took the toddler as well since my husband was not feeling well due to him just getting his shot Friday. We walked down and back as well. Needless to say I was sweating in places in don't enjoy sweating so I came home and went to the bathroom and stripped down. Apparently I lost my mucus plug. Holy grossness ladies! Never happened with my other 2 so that was new. Now I am laying in my bed enjoying the last 20 minutes of my husband having his daddy/son time. Maybe I really will have this baby. Lol

  • Y'all, I am sick of hospital bills. I prepaid my OB delivery fee.. several several hundred dollars.. and today I got a call from the hospital asking me to pay my hospital fee in full!!! I'm like ?!?!?! I have no money!! How have I not met my out of pocket maximum yet?? I'm pissed. We are doomed for money. I wasn't expecting this much money to deliver a baby. And the lady goes "This doesn't include any anesthesiologist fees either." Thanks.... so glad I'm planning on getting an epidural.....

  • @Sugargirl1019 that sucks! I would not be happy at all! For my previous pregnancies I've had them bill me and I just pay on them. I've never had to come up with all that money asap! I think the only thing that hey required to be paid was my boy's circumcision. I would definitely be like can you please just bill me!?

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Sugargirl1019 I totally sympathize. I only just received the bill from the hospital for when I had to be admitted for two nights due to bleeding back in late June. So now I feel like the bill for the birth will be coming right after! I had been anticipating how much the bill for the birth would be, but I certainly wasn't planning on the other stay, which ended up being pretty expensive!
  • @Sugargirl1019 thats terrible!  How high is your out of pocket max?

Does anyone know what happens when little one arrives?  They're their own person, so they start their own deduxtible/out of pocket, right? : Bawling:

  • @Cats*in*space
It depends. If you already have family health insurance, not just you on your own then it all goes together. My insurance is me by myself so the hospital stay and birth is under mine. Any extras for the baby like if they need an extended stay, special tests or circumcision would be under my husbands family insurance which the baby will be added to. But most is covered under you if it is a normal stay. I can not be under my husbands family plan because my work provides insurance which is a whole other issue. If you are adding the baby to yours I would ask your insurance how it works before hand so no surprises. I do have to pay to my max out of pocket when I pre-register this week. Ugh... Then if the baby has their own bills you will usually receive those later. At least that is how it went with DS.

Yea, I honestly just laughed at it. So absurd. I will fake my own death and flee the country before I pay that! The actual cost of the test is like $275 and they inflate it when the insurance company is involved. I wonder how many people don't argue these bills and just pony up the cash! So annoying that we have to double check all the bills they send us because they are never right!
  • $15,000 is crazy! I got a bill for $1,100 for the MaterniT21 test. My insurance originally refused to pay, but did cover it when the lab appealed that decision. I think the insurance only paid $500 or so in the end and I was told I didn't owe anything. I thought $1,100 was way too much.

  • Cats*in*space My insurance (I am on my own plan) has a deductible of like 3,700. When the baby arrives I will add her to my insurance (and add my husband too). She will have her own 3,700 deductible So even though my 3,700 has already been hit for the year. I expect that I will pay some amount of the 3,700 (if not all of it) for her with the birth etc. Lots and back and forth with my insurance rep to confirm these details in my case. Also a big shocker for me was how much its gonna cost to add my husband and the baby to my plan monthly (Around $600 a month).

  • If they can bill you, I would do that. Two reasons: sometimes what was initially quoted through preapproval will change making the charge be reduced and you can negotiate your hospital bill, especially if you pay in full.
  • @jenn622-2 $15,000 is nuts but definitely give the lab a call. My insurance covered part of my testing but denied the bulk of it (~$2-3k) after requesting a lot more info from MFM and the lab. When I called the lab to ask about the remaining balance and the documentation that insurance had asked them for, the lab said they were just writing off the portion not covered by insurance, so all I had to pay was $190.
  • @EmilyE13 yes, that is essentially what my insurance company told me would happen - lab would write off the rest of the amount. I've just been dreading getting on another 2 hour call with customer service but will definitely call this week!
  • I paid almost $800 for our prepaid OB fee. I went to L and D at 17 weeks and that was $600. I was pissed. I'm terrified that if I go and it's a false labor I'm going to be billed for that visit too.
The epidural was another $630 on top of all our other fees with my first. My friend paid $1200 for hers recently. My entire hospital bill for my first was like $25k which is insane. That was not what we paid but that's crazy for a low risk vaginal delivery.
  • I need to vent a bit. I was scheduled for an induction (on the books for about a month of so) for Tuesday the 22nd at 8am. We called at 7am and they said there was no room. No room! I have been there twice since Tuesday for monitoring babies but sent home each time b/c there's no room! How is there no room! I was told yesterday I'd probably get called last night as things were starting to clear out. Nurse called and said NOPE call this morning at 7am. We call and get told to call back at 10am. This is insane and I just want to scream! I am so uncomfortable and not sleeping at all - about 4 chopped up hrs total each night - and there's really no end in sight. So much for scheduling a twin induction.

So sorry this is happening to you!!!! I was warned at my hospital that my induction could get pushed back if everyone in the area seems to go into labor the day the induction is scheduled. But this sounds a little nutty. Maybe today will still be the day for you... Hugs!
  • @tfrangul A membrane sweep didn't work for me last time when I was 3 cm and 60% effaced. The three days after that before I went into labor were sooo long. Keep on cooking, baby tfrangul, and we'll see you when we see you.

  • @tfrangul, hang in there. Baby will be here sooner rather than later.

My last day of work is today. Looking forward to completing tasks that I have been putting off for months. But, I'm also planning on spending some much needed time on the beach with a book while DS is at pre-school. Any beach reading recommendations?
  • So we had our house and fence painted back in May. We built our fence a few years ago and last year, our neighbors added 3 sides onto it to make theirs. They have a beautiful backyard that they've been working on landscaping and adding to all year. I just realized tonight when I drove by their house, that our painters got our dark fence paint on their side of the fence and painted the whole one side. The rest of their fence is just a natural cedar wood. I feel terrible about this. However, beyond the occasional wave if we happen to be in our driveways at the same time, I don't know my neighbors. I don't even know their names, we've never even spoken, just the occasional smile and wave from time to time. Do I bring this up or apologize? It was 3 months ago at this point and they've never mentioned it. It was technically our piece of fence that we paid for, but it clashes so badly with the rest of their backyard now. I feel really bad about it, and kind of just want them to know that we didn't intentionally do this, and didn't know the painters would do that. Also, it just seems like a weird thing for the painters to do. We have the exterior and interior of out fence painted, but why would you go into our neighbor's backyard and paint their side of the fence too?
  • @coastalmomma-2 If you like YA, my beach book this year was Everything, Everything. It was quick, light, and interesting.
  • @heatherlynn321, a friend loaned that to me, and I meant to save it for maternity leave, but it was such a quick, fun read that I finished it in no time. I do like to read some YA so I can keep up with what my students are reading for pleasure.
  • @heatherlynn321
We have a neighbor issue going on from a couple months ago and I wish my neighbors would of apologized now it is just uncomfortable. They have 3 large rescue dogs. Two are pit bull mixes and they warned us when we moved in a yr ago that they aren't trust worthy around kids or other dogs. We have a ten yr old aussie who loves everything and everyone. Our neighbors have a few month old baby and one of the grandparents were at their house watching the baby and let the dogs just out and our dog was laying in our driveway watching my husband wash cars. The two unfriendly dogs attacked my dog. My husband was able to pick my dog up in the middle of it and carry her into the house. He then took her to the vet and she needed stitches and shots. It cost us $300. We know the grandparent told the neighbors as my dog had to wear a cone for a week and they were always out staring but never said anything. We never expected them to pay for anything and all we wanted is an apology. Even a note in the mailbox would do. It completely changed how we feel about them. I refuse to even wave at them. We will be spending our tax money next year on fencing in our large backyard to make me feel better about the kids playing outside with these dogs next door. So I guess my long point is I would say something even if it is just a note or a personal apology they could be waiting for it.
  • Thanks @cchenal07! I think I'm going to write them a note and say sorry. I've been thinking about it a little, and I'll still say sorry, but it actually probably looks a little better now. Since our fence was maybe 3 years older than the 3 sides they just put in, it still didn't match even before they painted it. Since we never stained it prior to the painting, it was a kind of washed out, ugly faded greyish wood color, and their 3 sides were new cedar. So that one side at least is one solid color now, as opposed to the ugly color it was before. I still feel like I need to say sorry though, with just the painters going inside their fence in the first place, and also painting it.
  • @cchenal07 that is total just cause to be upset with your neighbors. We had an unprovoked dog attack at our previous house. I brought the itemized bill over to the neighbors house when we got it and they paid. I'm sorry they aren't being responsible dog owners, but I'm glad you reinforced your fencing. I'd personally still talk to them about it,  since they said their dogs aren't fond of small children. I'd ask them what they plan to do about that,  since their dogs already got out and hurt your dog.
  • @cchenal07 I would have totally made them pay for my dog's vet bill. Their dog was on your property and attacked your dog! What if that was a small child?! I also would have called the police and animal control because that's totally unacceptable. We have some crazy neighbors and we have no problem calling the police on them and have in the past. We are very easy neighbors to get a long with, but it just shows them that we are serious and mean business when they put our family or dogs at risk.
We have a German shepherd (who wouldn't harm anyone) but we are responsible dog owners and have a large fenced in back yard. She is well trained and doesn't leave the yard if we let her out.

regarding the fence, I would make a simple apology and let them know you just recently noticed it.
  • So apparently, our neighbors really like our fence color, and were planning on painting it that color anyways, lol.
Ha, all that worry for nothing! ;)
