@mdfarmchick, that's a really good point. My mom had 3 miscarriages before she had her 3 children. So I'm sure this is really concerning for her. I know deep down she's excited, just being cautious.
My MIL is a real peach. I won't even get started in here about all the crap she pulls. Hence why she found out 5 weeks after my parents. And it would've been later if I didn't feel some guilt about telling our friends before her. Believe me, you'll be hearing lots of my MIL stories down the road.
@justkeeptrying im sorry you got that dismissive response from your MIL... I had my fair share of MIL drama with my ex who I was with 19 years... I think the language barrier with my current MIL is a good thing... I speak Spanish but am not fluent - I understand 75% of my inlaws, but if my MIL tells me something I'm not cool with I just pretend like I dont understand!!! She lives in Spain so the time we spend together is few and far betwreen... She never met Mars (her only grandchild) which is so sad for all of us...so shes been wanting me to get pregnant again more than anyone and we flew her out this summer and she put her hands on my belly and prayed spainsh prayers and sure enough... i ended up falling pregnant during her visit! I'm never going to underestimate a Spanish Yaya's powers!

@justkeeptrying What is wrong with people? I'm sorry your MIL is so insensitive. Seriously, what made her think that was a good thing to say?
@senora76 I'm still on summer break. I have about a week and a half before school starts again. I tried to put on a pair of dress pants a few weeks ago and it was a no go. I was doing the elastic band thing with jeans and even that got tight. Since I'm an avoider, I decided to not even evaluate my work clothes situation until next week. Right now, I'm wearing the same two things constantly. I wear a very loose skirt and one dress. I'm still wearing my tank tops but the blump is real. I will break out the belly band to see how that works out for me.
@maureenbioni I'm petite too. I was looking online for petite maternity clothes. My legs are super short I don't wear leggings because they remind me of sausages in casing. I bought a few things from motherhood maternity a few weeks back. I got some tanks for $5 each. I also ordered some shirts that I can wear when the weather is cooler and when I am bigger. Prob around 3rd tri.
How far along are you? 11 weeks today
Any appointments coming up? 9/18 for u/s and first real ob appointment - will be 14 weeks
How are you doing? (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here) I'm doing ok. I'm afraid of being hopeful, but I'm finding myself being more so. We had two good u/s. Last one was last Thursday. The NP from RE's office from my first u/s said that if I have a good second u/s then my chances increase to 95% for a successful pregnancy.
I had my intake at my regular OB's, the NP said that my chances are still 90%. Don't know why there is a discrepancy. She did say that when I hit 12 weeks my chances of mc drops drastically.
I guess I'm just paranoid that something happened after last week's u/s and I won't find out til a couple weeks later. They seriously should offer weekly u/s.
GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? My family isn't big on "family" stuff. My mother likes to get her family (her side only) but she does all the work and people really just chew and screw. Think no presents at Christmas. My mother can't be bothered. I get a $100 and she calls it a day, same for my birthday.
I'm looking forward to starting traditions with our little family once this little embaby arrives.

@SP128 School started here 2 weeks ago so not only do I have to deal with going to work but the whole mom scene at achool events as well....Another shorty here- I'm only 5'0... I've appreciated the old navy short inseam maternity jeans since my first pregnancy in 2003...too bad I got rid of everything early this year.... I am the same as you with the statistics tripping me up. I had a rather negative RE, who by the way, aside from ordering tests, didn't end up doing anything else for us... told me I had a 40% chance of miscarriage when I told him I was pg... and when we saw the HB he said you still have a 10% chance of miscarriage and a significantly higher chance of genetic and birth defects at my age... I'm obsessing and my appt on Tuesday cannot come soon enough!!! I'm holding my breath through the next 3 weeks...and just wish I could stay positive... Yeah my MIL is...interesting to say the least. I'm sure you'll all get to hear some great stories about her down the road. My May 2015 group is always in awe at the stuff I have to deal with. And yet, she constantly surprises me with the stuff that comes out of her mouth. I guess I just always expect the first thing people to say is "Congratulations" (is that not normal???) but I'm starting to figure out who in my life won't ever say that. I'm actually debating right now if I want to just text my brother that I'm pregnant. This is our 4th pregnancy and his wife has NEVER said congratulations to us on any of our announcements. Eye roll. Come on people!
@justkeeptrying ok I can DEFINITELY relate to you on the SIL front... There is even a total funk between my brother and I ever since he's been with his wife and don't even get me started with how they act ever since they had their baby. All family events must be scheduled in between my nephews strict sleep training schedule... which drives everyine bananas.

So, being PGAL I've been scared to go to the Chiropractor because what if? Are any of you going? What about massages? I'm just wondering if one or both of these would help with my migraines. I went to the Chiro regularly pre-losses a year ago, but since then I've been scared AND my amazing doctor left me anyway.
@chasingroygbiv I don't know anyhing about chiropractics but personally I am holding off on massages for now--- I am seeing my accupuncturist regularly- I know they can help with pain... I would just make sure anyone you see (chiropractor, physical therapist, etc) know that you are pregnant.
Mama to: Zane William 9/17/03 Vance Xenophon 5/17/06 Mars Florencio 11/15/16 - 3/6/17 Nova Marsela 3/14/18
@chasingroygbiv, I was told to avoid massages in first trimester. I have no idea if there's any merit to this or not but I figured I'll hold off. I don't regularly go anyway but I'll definitely be scheduling some prenatal massages in second or third trimester when I'm uncomfortable. As for chiro, I'm not sure. I saw a chiropractor regular in 3rd trimester with DS and it was recommended to me by my doula. But she was a specialist with pregnant women. I would probably be hesitant this early. But that may just be me being a worry wart for no reason.
@chasingroygbiv, my massage therapy center will not do massages in the first trimester. I already have my 2nd tri prenatal one scheduled for September! Acupunture is my friend. Not sure about chiropractic.
Edited because...spelling counts.

@chasingroygbiv I was freaking out before my first u/s because DH tried to massage a knot out of my shoulder. I asked the NP about massages and she said definitely. I asked why masseuses tend to not do them when people are in first tri and she said because they are just afraid to get sued if something happens. She said no worries.
However, with my loss I asked the NP at my OB and she said no deep tissue.
Guess it depends on who you ask.

@chasingroygbiv I have been to my chiropractor. He gave me a special pregnancy pillow for my midsection right away for the face down adjustments and was very gentle with the lower back adjustments - no twisting at all. I think if you tell your chiropractor and ask if they have experience with women of your stage of pregnancy you should get a good and safe adjustment.
On the maternity wear front, I need to rant. I went shopping recently and came home with nothing but leggings. I was very frustrated. All the stores that carry maternity clothes are going to nothing in the store, online only! I went to Old Navy, which got me through my pregnancy with DD, and the lady said, "oh we are phasing that out of stores, we have a tiny clearance corner left". WAT!?! Even Target has been a let down with a very small in-store inventory. I understand that pregnant shoppers are a small percentage of the population at any given time, but give me a break. I like seeing and touching and trying on clothes before I buy. I bought a bunch of stuff last time online from Zulilly and nearly all of it turned out to be crap. Ugh, rant over. I did end up buying three pairs of work pants from Gap maternity and I kept 2, so all was not lost.
@ishmoney How often do you go to acupuncture? I've been interested in trying it out. My sister has been going for a year now and is very pleased with her results.
@mrs_tuna_08 I know what you mean about maternity clothes shopping- I get everything online and just return what doesnt work...
@mommytron I know you didn't ask me specifically but I thought id chime in since I have been going to fertility accupuncture for 3 mos and am continuing to go... I love it and saw a huge change in my cycles... Ever since I hit 38 my cycles were starting to get wacky and in the 3 mos at accupuncture I became exactly regular plus I love how relaxing it is, I'm also being treated for grief. I'm a fan.
I still cant get this doppler to work for me and I know it is probably just too early... my tuesday OB appt cant come soon enough!

@senora76 Thank you for the input! It's wonderful that you have had good results in just 3 months. I was thinking about going after my m/c in january but have been slacking and never went.
@mommytron I was so desperate... when we lost Mars I was still breastfeeding around the clock and hadn't had a period, plus with my age and prior period wackiness I needed to get back on track- STAT... I was hoping to magically get pg without getting my period back but tht didnt happen and after my period returned a friend of mine suggested accupuncture - so I went for it... the accupuncturist said not to expect results for 3 mos as that is the cycle of an egg... she also had me taking supplements (CoQnol) to improve egg quality and sure enough I got pregnant after 3 mos of accupuncture at age 40. Now I'm afraid to stop going! i go once a week.

Had a surprise ultrasound at 10 weeks. Went in for a weight check due to me losing weight. With my DS, I lost 12 lbs in the first trimester due to HG that put me in the hospital for dehydration. It was horrible. So far, I have avoided that. Anyway, I saw arms and legs! No movement. But little one had its hand near its face just like its big brother. Big brother was a compound birth and was born head and hand first. Stubborn son kept his hand near his face for pretty much the entire pregnancy and was born that way. He sleeps like that too, but I also sleep with my hand near my face. Cute story.
sorry I haven't been around as much. I am still struggling on telling people and now I think my MIL is getting suspicious.! I swear she is trying to smoke us out. She is trying to plan a vacation for July but makes sure to tell us about the cancellation policy, you know, just in case I am pregnant. Geeze!

@mommytron, I go weekly since April. My FSA (like HSA) covers it (but I ran out of that money). But I'll still continue. I started to help boost fertility (then through miscarriage in May) and now to continue to support pregnancy and because I like it! It's relaxing, a guaranteed nap, supports stress and the nausea relief.
I had my first midwifery appt on Saturday and I heard the glorious heartbeat (160) for the first time!!!! I am content now. Next ultrasound is 20 weeks (a whole 10 weeks from now) BUT as long as I get to hear the heartbeat at each visit, I'm cool.

Everything looked great at my NT US this a.m.! it was amazing to see the little squirmy bug moving around so much. posted a pic on US thread. Finally getting more confident that my body is actually going to pull this off....I think we will tell my parents within the week and officially announce in just over a week when we hit the big 13!
It's a little bitter sweet that I know I wont get to see him/her again until the anatomy scan though. 7-8 weeks seems so far away
does any body know if it's common for your OB to use the doppler at most appointments? He hasn't at any so far (but I think maybe it is just too early?) ...I think that would help me get through all the waiting between this check in and the next
@bb3vj3n In my previous pregnancies my doctor usually didn't even bring the Doppler in until 12 weeks because she didn't want to have me panicking for no reason if she couldn't pick it up. With my new practice my last appt was at 11+ weeks and he didn't bring it in or even mention it, but I did have a u/s..
Any appointments coming up? We have an ultrasound next week on Thursday and my regular OB appointment on September 18.
How are you doing? To be honest, it's hit or miss. So some days I'm good and some days I'm bad. We have had really good appointments thus far. Bloodwork all good, and lots of reassurance from my doctor. However, I haven't had an ultrasound yet. So I'm a bit guarded I guess. I have also been extremely quiet on this board, I think I've posted once or twice. I'm having a hard time being active and participating. I was very active with my son's BMB, which is why I find it strange for me. I had, had a loss before him as well. I lost a baby in March of this year, but find myself distancing from pregnancy boards/conversations more this time around. My J16 board was a huge source of support/knowledge and I'm hoping to get there with this group, but need to let myself get excited. I'm hoping after our ultrasound next week, I'll feel more comfortable sharing. I had a hard time with all of the losses at the beginning of this BMB.
GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? Um, we don't really have a lot. However, we do a Christmas Eve box every year, with PJs, snacks and other goodies. It's always fun and an easy way to plan a cozy and fun family night.
@bb3vj3n that's wonderful! congratulations!!! My OB used the doppler every visit after 12 weeks or so. Back in the day when I had my older sons (2003 & 2006), we only got one ultrasound at 20 weeks! NT test wasn't yet mandatory, or covered if elective so we had the high false positive AFP test (just blood) and the one anatomy scan at 20 weeks...!
@atlee712 I had tight knit baby groups for my older sons. I still keep in touch with a mom from Sept 2003 and still am very connected with my June 2006 group- in fact have met up with one of the girls in person a few times... My last pregnancy I didn't really dig the mommy group scene, at least on baby center... but when I lost my son in March, because of our Nov 2016 group, I was connected with another mom who also lost a son at daycare to SIDS like I had and she has become one of the most important new friends in my life. I do love connecting, supporting and sharing with a mom board... but I'm so broken and hurt, and very scared about this pregnancy that I really only feel comfortable here- in this little group. I had a very hard time with the earlier losses too - my heart was broken for moms and their families and I got extra worried about my own pregnancy seeing how fragile we all are. I worry about sharing my own tragedy here, because I don't want everyone to fear that this very rare thing will happen to them too...like it is contagious or something - but I also feel this is the only place I can talk about it, because we've all suffered loss and drama in our journeys to motherhood and we are all fragile... but none of us are alone.

@senora76 exactly how it was around here years ago. I only got an early u/s with our first due to being high risk otherwise we wouldn't have seen him until 18-20 weeks and we only did the "quad" lab tests.
thanks ladies! I did ask for a dating and NT ultrasound this time around because during my last pregnancy - my first OB appointment wasn't until 14 weeks and my GP didn't order any tests or follow up with me at all. I didn't know any better so I didn't make a big deal out of it. I really resent that I received zero prenatal care in my first tri so this time around my OB did he would take me from day one because of our loss last time. he also told me he was unaware that my GP wasn't taking care of ordering all my first tri screening tests or he would have booked me in sooner.
I know it's unlikely that we could have changed the outcome of our last pregnancy had things gone differently - but I am just so angry that we weren't presented with all these chances to see our baby or even have the option for the tests.
I am really hoping my OB pulls out the doppler for next visit which is at 13+2. He's never mentioned it but knowing you both got to hear the HB consistently makes me feels much better that he will as we get further along.
@bb3vj3n Wonderful news!!! I have not seen a doppler yet, but I'm still kind of early for it I think.
@senora76 So exciting that you got to find LO's heartbeat with the doppler. I wish I could be trusted with one. I know I would obsess and it wouldn't be good for me.
@ishmoney Awesome. I haven't heard the heartbeat yet. I can't wait. I've only had internal ultrasounds. Maybe I can hear it when they do an external one??
@atlee712 Totally understandable! We are hear for you when you feel more comfortable.
AFM: Got my NIPT results!!!! It's a negative I got my blood drawn on Wednesday. Originally I was told results in a couple of weeks. The medical assistant who drew by blood told me results in 5 business days or so. Counsyl received my lab work on Thursday and I voicemail early afternoon. Definitely surprised since I was under the impression they were going to email the results. Online it says that my results are "under clinical review" I'm going to assume that since the results were released to my OB they are accurate. Nurse said call back if we want to know the gender. Not gonna

A bit late for me - I follow this thread, but I've also been struggling a bit to stay involved. Getting near to the relatively safe point of the second trimester, which for me last time (at 13.5 weeks, with NIPT results) was when we had our first indication that things were not typical.
How far along are you? 10w3d
Any appointments coming up? Had blood drawn today for the NIPT. NT scan in 2 weeks.
How are you doing? (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here) Today I'm doing pretty well. I wasn't intending to, but when they led me into a room to fill out paperwork this morning - and not straight to the place where blood is drawn - I asked if they'd check for the baby's heartbeat with the Doppler. The nurse couldn't find it, but they did a quick little ultrasound with those cool hand-held devices, and all looks good today! I'm relieved as always when I see our baby... in small part this time because I don't want the stress of waiting on the NIPT if it's all for naught. Also, I had a really minor fall on my butt while hiking about a week ago, and much as Google told me the baby would be fine, it was good to see for myself!
If I let myself, I'll get stressed out about the NIPT results, but I'm hoping to put it mostly out of my mind this week, since we're unlikely to find out results until next Monday. I'm also trying to keep an "it is what it is" attitude, and to rest on the fact that we already love this baby and, whatever we learn next week, we'll get through it.
GTKY: What's your favorite family tradition? Like many, Christmas with family. We don't have too many specific traditions yet, but I hope to start creating some over the next few years.
Happy to read so much good news from you all, lately!
@eller-2 Good luck with NIPT. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised and get your results back early! I asked about the NT scan and the NP said they aren't going to do it because the NIPT results are more conclusive. So weird how practices are different.

Thanks, @SP128. The different practices around NT scans are interesting. I expected to skip it this time, but my doc's practice encourages it on top of the NIPT - or maybe that's just for me because of my history? The reasoning they gave me wasn't terribly persuasive, when I asked, but I'm happy to have the look at our baby (and I don't think it will tell me anything I don't already know after having the NIPT results, which I count as a good thing... I'd like to know the big things, but I'd also like to avoid getting too much stressful information, if possible, especially information of the "screening" nature that may turn out not to mean much).
@eller-2 I thought I was going to get a peek at Embaby at 12 weeks for the NT scan. Now I'm now. However, I'm getting an u/s at 14 weeks though. Six of the same, half a dozen of the other!

@senora76 I am so sorry to hear about Mars. My heart is breaking for you. *hugs* What wonderful news that you got to hear your LO's heartbeat on the doppler. ❤️
@ishmoney Congrats on getting to hear the heartbeat! ooh that's sounds right up my alley. I'm glad that accupuncture has been benefiting you immensely.
Finally after 14 long business days I got my Maternit21 results. Good results! We are waiting until the 20 week scan to find out the sex.
@eller-2 The same thing happened to me at 12.4 weeks the doppler. It's wonderful that you got to see the heartbeat on the screen! Thank you very much! I've been very anxious since I had my blood drawn.
@eller-2 I googled handheld u/s device, since I've never heard of one before, and then I find myself doing a google shopping search with how I can buy one ... haha! Sounds far fetched today, but I bet our children will be owning one of these when they have their own kids! I'm nervous about the NIPT as well.
Had my long awaited official first OB appt today with my amazing dr who delivered Mars. We haven't seen him since the week we lost him, when the only place we left the house for was his office to yank my IUD out. It was SO good to see him, but also very very bittersweet - We feel like we were just there going through this same process. Its helpful that he is enormously compassionate and told us its totally normal for us to be incredibly anxious this time around... Measured right on target 9w3d for an EDD of 3/31...but according to my LMP my EDD is 4/3 and its not enough of a difference to change it in their system... I'm not gonna make a big deal over it because after all we went through this past year, I'm just so grateful to be pregnant LOL I know when I ovulated and I'm sticking with 3/31! My last 2 babies came early (5 weeks and 10 days) so I'm fairly confident in a March baby...! Holding my breath for the next 3 weeks... NIPT, NT...deep breath...

However, with my loss I asked the NP at my OB and she said no deep tissue.
Guess it depends on who you ask.

I'm a fan.
I still cant get this doppler to work for me and I know it is probably just too early... my tuesday OB appt cant come soon enough!

sorry I haven't been around as much. I am still struggling on telling people and now I think my MIL is getting suspicious.! I swear she is trying to smoke us out. She is trying to plan a vacation for July but makes sure to tell us about the cancellation policy, you know, just in case I am pregnant. Geeze!

Congrats @senora76!
I had my first midwifery appt on Saturday and I heard the glorious heartbeat (160) for the first time!!!! I am content now. Next ultrasound is 20 weeks (a whole 10 weeks from now) BUT as long as I get to hear the heartbeat at each visit, I'm cool.

Hang in there, let us know how it goes!! @bb3vj3n
I worry about sharing my own tragedy here, because I don't want everyone to fear that this very rare thing will happen to them too...like it is contagious or something - but I also feel this is the only place I can talk about it, because we've all suffered loss and drama in our journeys to motherhood and we are all fragile... but none of us are alone.

thanks ladies!

What wonderful news that you got to hear your LO's heartbeat on the doppler.
Thank you very much! I've been very anxious since I had my blood drawn.
@mommytron congrats on the MaterniT21 results!
