Also, I can understand the one time slip of MIL calling herself mommy, but at what point is it actually becoming intentional and do I say something? Ugh.
Oh. Hell. No. Sonetimes other people's MIL horror stories give me flash-forwards.
My mom has made this slip a couple of times, but now she's started calling DS by my brother's name which is annoying.
This will be a huge UO I'm sure.. but I hate the "trend" of hating trends lol. Like, so what if I want to drink my pumpkin spice shit out of a mason jar sitting in a fake "old" barn draped in burlap? I get annoyed when people are super fake about it of course. For example, a girl I went K-12 with was the most girly, "valley-girl" type you have ever met.. and she got married in cowboy boots. Granted, her husband is a farm guy and I guess she could have been wearing them as a nod to his interests but I did eye-roll pretty hard at that. I had a candy bar at my wedding that I've seen slammed, but did it because my husband is a huge child with a massive sweet tooth. We got married in an old barn-style building beside an old fashioned general store and a cabin because it symbolized a special place that we couldn't get married at because of the commute. My daughter had a gold, teal, and pink 1st birthday party because I loved the theme. I'm pregnant with a little boy and I adore the "woodland"/"adventure" theme that everyone else is doing. I want to be super "creative" and "unique" with everything but let's face it. So many peoples lives are plastered all over social media in one way or another, so 99% of our ideas are going to come from something we've seen before. I just want to be able to like what I like regardless of how popular it is at the time and not feel embarrassed about liking it because it's too popular.
@lovelylittledahls I can see where you're coming from. For me personally, my attitude is just eff it, I like what I like. Also, everyone else likes what they like, and that's okay.
Like pumpkin spice for example. I LOVE it, and if that makes me 'basic,' IDGAF.
But also, there are certain things that I do roll my eyes at. Though I guess that's the whole point of unpopular opinions, is liking or disliking something that most people would disagree with you on! ETA: I don't go around telling people I think what they like is stupid and I doubt others who have posted do either, but in UO, that's kind of the territory.
FWIW, I love candy bars/s'mores bars at weddings. We considered s'mores since we had a fall wedding, but went with a hot cocoa bar.
@lovelylittledahls I don't understand trend hating either. But then again, I don't really understand trend following to begin with. I always figure that people do things because they like them, or because they're personally resonant to them, and when I later find out that it was just because that thing was "in" ... I roll my eyes like nobody's business and move on.
I just give zero f***s about what's trendy/in/stylish/whatever.
@MJDsquared@kyrwyn Exactly where I'm coming from!! I just hate that it's popular to shame things that are popular. I am also a huge pumpkin spice fan! If it's something that you really love, or something that has significance to you, I say do it regardless of how many people eye-roll at you. I would love a hot cocoa or s'more bar! We would have loved a Fall wedding also, but had to schedule around DH's school.
@lovelylittledahls Also yes, if you only don't like something because it's popular, that's silly. I'm now picturing someone taking a sip of a pumpkin spice latte and loving it but then going on a Facebook rant about how the whole trend is stupid just to be contradictory hahaha.
I don't believe family needs to be more important than other people in your life *just* because they happen to share your genetics. I believe in prioritizing people who also prioritize me, regardless of how we know each other.
Ok here's mine: I hate, hate, hate, hate porn. I am so happy that the negative effects are being studied and that there is a growing movement against it.
@GraysonsMama, what are the negative effects? I don't watch it, and don't have a feeling about it one way or another, I am just wondering what they are studying.
Momma to Amelia Marie (7/14) and Austin Samuel (11/17). Adding baby (girl) #3 on 7/21
@ameliabedelia-2 In short it rewires the brain, makes long-term and meaningful relationships very difficult if not impossible to have, it is just as addictive as hardcore drugs, can cause erectile dysfunction, and increases the demand for sex trafficking. Fight the New Drug is an amazing resource and outreach program if you're interested. I'm also more than willing to chat with anyone in-depth about it!
Oh another one... I'm 24 weeks therefore 6 months pregnant. I DGAF if the math doesn't add up. I like saying "I'm 9 months pregnant" from 36 weeks on. It makes me happy.
Haha @breezybee, no one is ever f'ed The good thing about living in this time of that there are so many resourses and so much more information out there then then there was even 5 or 10 year ago. I'm not judging anyone's experiences just sharing information and my personal stance with it. I'm happy to share my personal story and hope with anyone via pm.
Hope: there is help for anyone struggling with addiction and their spouses!
FFTC: I learned what "basic" means like, a month ago.... lol. Also, porn is how I ended up pregnant with DD1. Hardcore, no thanks. Id prefer not to see a close up of some chicks snatch. DH and I had a little too much to drink while celebrating our last week of unmarried life, making fun of Busty Cops 3 (that ish is HILARIOUS!!!). I don't remember the rest, but apparently it was a fun night!
@kvacmak I totally agree!! 90% of my dads side of the family I don't even speak to. A lot of drama went down after my Gramma passed away in 2009 and the short version is that they all turned out to be trashy people who only cared about getting their share of the inheritance (which there was practically nothing left after her medical bills). Most of them didn't even bother showing up at the unveiling of her gravesite the next year.
Also, I'm waiting until MIL slips again the next time she's here, which I'm fairly certain it will be right after having DD2. I'll be able to 110% blame hormones then. But seriously, its been 44 years since she had a baby. Stop trying to raise mine. She did a great job with her children, but we want to raise our girls OUR way.
@kvacmak I do the same thing, except I'm probably even worse because I round up. As soon as I am however many weeks and 1 day I round up to the next week and therefore the next "month." So I've been saying I'm 6 months pregnant since I was 23 weeks 1 day. It makes me feel better and I don't care if it's not accurate.
@kvacmak@tigercakes I round down! That way if people are like, "such a big bump!" I file it under 'thinks I'm not so far along.' Also, in general we fudge the due date to mid-December (not 12/9) because I don't want to deal with everyone asking if I'm in labor yet.
@kvacmak Oh my god this is really hitting home for me this week. My relationship with my father (even that doesn't feel formal enough; biological father sounds more natural at this point) is very strained, to say the least, and I saw him this week for the first time since...January or February of 2016. He texted me this morning saying he wants to visit and get lunch and asked if Sunday works. So thankful for that newborn essentials class on Sunday from 10-2!
I enjoy pumpkin spice stuff but only if there's a component of pumpkin involved. Anyone can go home and sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves on shit all day but that's totally different from getting that spiced pumpkin flavor baked into or added to something. It's too bad we can't have "spiced pumpkin" and "pumpkin spice" as a standardized way of differentiating the two flavors. tldr; if it doesn't have pumpkin or pumpkin flavor gtfo
Re: the barn burlap and overdone weddings. Just like trends in clothes there are trends in weddings, and if we're all being honest each of our weddings will be dated in some way. That's just how it is. I know looking back there are a few things I would change, but in the end we were happy with it. A trend I kind of regret: my strapless dress -- even if it was pretty and fit well and H loooved it, it's still going to date my wedding. Some might look back and find their overdone barn mason jar burlap wedding perfect and magical, while some will be unhappy with being sucked into that trend. To each her own. As long as the food's good and plentiful!!! Also don't cut a cake and then make me eat random desserts. If you're just doing a dessert bar fine, but if there's a wedding cake I want some damn wedding cake.

My UO is I think people who add tracking devices to their kids are creepy and paranoid. In addition to providing GPS coordinates (which I can understand), they also let you listen to your child's surroundings. There are so many things wrong with this!!

@djd0404 Yes I was shocked when I overheard some coworkers talking about which tracker to buy. I looked it up and there are a few companies that offer these services.
I HATE THE NEW TAYLOR SWIFT SONG. There, I said it.
*slinks quietly away weeping into copy of Speak Now*
Also not a fan. Our local pop station is playing it every hour and I'm just like... why??? It's not good. Of course with so much play it's like they're trying make us like it. Blech.

I think this might be a UO... I'm not really a huge country fan, but I actually preferred old school country pop TSwift over current mainstream pop TSwift.
I've only listened to T-Swift's song once and I liked it enough, but didn't love it. However, I generally have to hear a song a few times before I love it soooooooo I'm thinking it's just a matter of time.
Haha, ok I'm dying right now. I guess my UO is that I love porn, although definitely not addicted. I think it is very beneficial to relationships, and individuals. For example, if not for porn to work out my weird kinks as a teen, I would have been doing old men left and right. I may have had some daddy issues... SO and I both watch porn regularly, to enjoy time with ourselves as well as time with each other. In fact, we have even spent some awesome evenings looking through old playboys with friends and laughing at how the pubic hair trends have changed over the years!
@Amber_Waves I read that about your MIL and was in shock! Why in the world would she even do that, I don't get how that accidently even happens! No way, you have every right to say something!!
My UO on the topic of Pumpkin Pie....I hate Thanksgiving! It's not even the family part I hate, I love getting together. I'm a pretty picky eater so I hate the expectation of eating a lot of food, which is always the same traditional stuff at my family's. I don't like hardly any of it, I don't want it! Can we please just order pizza and skip to dessert! I too would love to just eat the entire pumpkin pie myself smothered in whip cream! Sorry this is huge...I have NOOOO idea how to resize!
mandayno, It's not my MIL, it's @splsmama2016 's MIL. I was quoting her...maybe it's not showing correctly. DH & I don't have any kids yet but I anticipate all kinds of MIL shenanigans.
