  • @kmalls DH made a contraption to look at it through a pizza box, but it was too hot outside to stand there and look at it

I'm in 98, nearly 99 percent viewing so it's kind of exciting but not worth traveling. I procrastinated on glasses so I made a last minute cereal box projector and we are taking turns on it every so often. We have about 45mins till our "full" coverage time.
DD is learning a lot about it at school so I have to be excited with her. I can't kill her buzz.

  • @kmalls yep, me second. I am exhausted, trying not to puke whilst simultaneously keeping three little people alive and happy. As long as the sun is still shining, I'm good.

@kmalls that makes sense. My son is only 2 so of course he doesn't care. He's supposed to be napping, but fell asleep in the car for 5 mins when picking our 5yo up from early dismissal from school, so of course that means nap strike. 5min car nap =/= 1hr crib nap, kid.  :s I'm sure he will be a pill the rest of the day.

  • @kmalls  They are having a watch party here at work and yes I haven't given a F## either but just for something to do, I went in and watched right as it went over Missouri.  People on tv started cheering when the whole place went dark...what did I do, start crying lol (happy tears).  OMG, these hormones!!!!

I just watched the coverage on TV, but for some reason it made me cry too!
  • I just went outside and the cloud cover was perfect -- just enough so I could look up with my sunglasses on and not burn my eyes. Solar glasses can kiss it  :*
  • @kmalls I wouldn't have cared enough to travel. That said I was in 100% range so just had to step out my door. I checked it around 1/4 and 1/2 and the was out there for total. Glad I did it ended up being really neat, and kind of eirey.
@lindsye going for happy and alive. Kudos I generally just go for alive ;)

  • @kmalls - I'm right there with you. Everyone around me is freaking out about the Eclipse and I'm all over here just trying to nap.

  • I didn't want to care, but the eclipse was neater than I expected.  My work was making a big deal out of it. They had the coverage playing in the waiting room and we all kept going outside to watch it.  I work at an ophthalmology practice, so we have been hearing about the eclipse endlessly.  Hopefully we don't have to hear about it too much more, but I am certain we I'll have a couple Smarties who looked without safety glasses.

Otherwise, I feel like the worst per parent ever.  (Sidenote, we are currently staying with my parents while house hunting) my parents dog had a hot spot about a month ago.  It cleared up, then my dog seemed to have one in the same spot.  We treating it with his medication, it would look better, then get worse.  Well, this weekend, we seriously did not think she was going to make it.  She could not stand up straight, there was little to no acknowledgement of us talking to her.

Well, the vet just left. She had a double ear infection.  Never had a hot spot, was just scratching her poor miserable ears.  She is on 4(!) medications now.
  • @holly321 poor puppy!
  • @lauranicole91 We saw it perfectly in our area! I just wish we got to experience the darkness!
  • @kindbytealikat I hear you, but they are generally quieter when they're happy. Priorities.

  • I just got back from a 6 hour drive (normally two hour drive) from seeing the eclipse, and I am stoked about two things:
    .
The first was that I went.  IT WAS AWESOME! We found a secluded beach on the lake, and when it reached totality, you could hear people cheering all over the lake.  Really moving moment.

The second thing is how well my DD did in the car.  It was the longest she had ever been in a car, and she was a complete saint about it.  I had had nightmares of being trapped with a fussy kiddo, and she blew me out of the water.  I really don't deserve such an angel.

Same!! It was crazy how light out it still was even with only a sliver of sun still showing! It just looked like a smokey day from not that long ago during all the wildfires.

  • @kmalls this made me remember the pain all over again when I realized that DD was transitioning from two naps to one. There may have been tears. I know there weren't any momma showers for a few days.

  • We had planned a trip to Munich for Oktoberfest this year and have had it planned for a few months.  Now that I am pregnant, DH is rethinking going.  I still really want to go!  I can still have fun and not drink.  And it's not like we were spending every day at Oktoberfest.  We will be there a week, so planning to go to Austria and see some other stuff.
  • @sparklingdiamond it certainly sounds like it could still be a really cool trip

You are such a better person than me. I mean, Austria would be fun, but I'd be a gigantic bitter Betty sitting there, sober, at Oktoberfest.
  • @kmalls Oh for sure I would miss the drinking and be a little upset about it, but I really want to go to Germany.  We already paid for the tickets and they aren't refundable.  I think we can get an airline credit, but then we will lose $400 in change fees whenever we use the credit.  I feel like we won't get the chance for a trip like this for a while.
  • @sparklingdiamond oh I'd go FOR SURE -- I'd just sulk during Oktoberfest  :D
  • @sparklingdiamond when I was about a minute pregnant with my first, my DH and I went on an (already booked) trip to LA for New Years Eve festivities/the Rose Bowl with a bunch of his college friends. Telling everyone I was pregnant was out of the question because it was SO early so I'm pretty sure everyone just thought I was being a bitch. When I was sitting out in Pasadena drinking soda while everyone else downed beer, I was not a happy camper. It would have been better if everyone knew I was pregnant though. I'm sure you'll have a blast!

(And also, after you already have kids, any time you get to spend away with DH is awesome and feels vacationy booze or no. Sleeping whenever, wherever, however late you want to = height of luxury.)

  • I just bought a box of ice cream sandwiches randomly.  I just ate one and it was amazing!  Now my stomach is yelling at me to eat more.
  • @mispanda your stomach sounds demanding lol :) glad they are seeming tasty
  • @sparklingdiamond still sounds like it would be an amazing trip.  All the history in those places would be exciting to see in person and agree with @kmalls I would be bitter sitting there not getting to enjoy Oktoberfest.

Man @mispanda now you are making me want ice cream sandwiches

Today my DD visited the next room up in daycare and I got the official notice that she will move up September 5th I was emotionally not ready for that news today.

  • @Dumbgurl04 that's a big leap! I'd be emotional, too. Hang in there!
  • @Dumbgurl04 that's huge! No wonder you weren't ready
  • Even though I'm not emotionally ready @allowachick and @kmalls I'm sort of excited.  She visited that room today and I already saw a little improvement in her going potty.  She usually just asks once to go potty after we get home, today she asked and went 3 times.
