Re: FTM Check-In 8/1

  • How far along are you? 4+4 (based on O date)

What are your symptoms? Nausea, heartburn, fatigue (only in the evening), decreased appetite, insomnia (I’ve been sleeping through the night the last few nights but waking up way earlier than I need to), feeling cold all the time, headaches, pregnancy brain

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? Urine and blood test today!

Rants/raves? Food does not sound good to me right now especially at night. Once I get past lunch, I barely eat. Also, I wish it was okay to go to bed at 5pm but I'm an adult and I need to spend time with my DH after work.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Not at the moment

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? Our house is a mess! We have a four bedroom but 3 of them are just filled with crap. We are going to need to do some major cleaning over the next 9 months.

What are your symptoms? Tender nipples, various discomfort/pain in the abdominal region, very slight nausea, costipation, tires, very thirsty/peeing a lot.

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? I had my first appt last week, and it went fine, but it was just intakes. They sent me for blood work to test for lupus anticoagulant because of my losses. Next appt in just over 3 weeks.

Rants/raves? I have a dear friend visitig right now, which is really fun, but it's also hard not to tell her.

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? Our house only has one bedroom, and it's tiny, so finding a place for the baby will be challenging. Also, our house is the least child safe ever.... bookshelves everywhere and no closets or storage cabinets, so I have no idea what we'll do when LO starts walking...

What are your symptoms? sore boobies, a little bit of nausea, and I. Smell. Everything.

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? I had betas at 13 and 15 dpo, and have my first U/S on Aug 22. At least, I think it's an U/S... the portal just says "first prenatal visit" so maybe I should ask about that.

Rants/raves? I'm so very tired. But I have a great excuse to not clean anything!

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? Geez, there's probably a ton of challenges I haven't thought of. Our physical space will be fine, but we might need a new car. I think for now, just probably just figuring out how to mesh sleep schedules with work schedules without losing our sanity.
  • @looeeze You should call your OB and ask about that first appt. For me, the first appt was to do intake, do a check in, get a pregnancy verification (urine test), make future appts (for U/S and genetic testing), but I think my practice is pretty low-key, so maybe an U/S is standard at first appt where you are?

  • @hedgepig You're right, I know I need to. I'm hesitant because I feel like I've seriously been bothering my OB for the last month. Before my BFP I asked her like 3 times about progesterone testing and then I asked for the betas test when I was spotting around 12dpo. It might all be in my head but I just feel like I'm being overbearing.

@looeeze I know that feel, I'm the same way, but you've got to advocate for yourself... no one else is going to! Plus, asking about whethet there is an U/S at the first visit is a practical issue too - so you know if you should bring YH, what to be prepared for, etc.

  • How far along are you? 4w2d

What are your symptoms? tender boobs, minor nausea (for now lol), bloating, and fatigue

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? I have a confirmation of pregnancy appointment on Monday and I'm excited!

Rants/raves? I want to know everything and research everything. Already read girlfriends guide to pregnancy and what to expect when expecting. When I'm overly excited I want to plan things but I know I need to slow down and relax.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? How do you keep from blurting out that your pregnant at every turn?!

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? we live in a studio apartment and signed the lease again right before the BFP so well be in a 575sq ft apartment until September of next year Lol it's going to be rough finding room and keeping organized

  • @looeeze on the sleeping schedule.  The best advice I was given was start the bed time routine early, like at 2 weeks old.  I know super crazy, i thought the same thing when my DD's doctor told us that but it works.  Start out by opening blinds to make it brighter in the house and don't worry about being too quite during the day (expect for naps of course) then about an hour before bed time make it a little darker in the house and be as quite as you can be.  Then as your little one gets older you adjust the schedule for us we would start cleaning up her toys.  There would be times that she was freaking out and having a meltdown but once we started to clean up she calmed right down cause she knew it was bed time.  Now you have to make it work for you but I think doing the stuff at the beginning to help to tell the difference between night and day helped a lot.  And if anything you might end up getting a great sleeper.  My DD is going to be 3 in October and she has been sleeping through the night (give or take a couple of times for teething) since she was 4 1/2 months old.

  • How far along are you? 3w4d

What are your symptoms? Exhaustion, Cramping, experienced first aversion to food this morning (my greek yogurt :( ), mild cramps, tender boobs

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? My OB doesn't see patients until 8 weeks unless they've had issues previously... So first appt is August 31 for a sonogram.

Rants/raves?  Nothing at the moment... but the day is still early.

Questions for FTM, or STM+?  None yet.

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? So this is the weird part... I'm a first time mom, but my husband has a daughter that we see every other weekend. I struggle with whether to consider myself FTM or STM... I'm leaning toward FTM as first bio kid. So my biggest change is having a full time kid. That'll be interesting because we can't just ship it off after a bit like we do with SD.

  • @kindbytealikat My mom just gave me that book too! I leave the page open to the day so my H can read it in the morning too. I love it!
  • How far along are you? 5 +4

What are your symptoms? Fatigue was hitting me really hard since 2dpt but it has let up a bit in the last two days. I am mostly just exhausted after dinner now. My boobs are still terribly sore and constipation is a new one. Joy.

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? Just beta testing until my levels reached +1,000. First u/s next week!

Rants/raves? The fact that my fatigue is going away has been worrying me a little. I am starting to feel not pregnant. I know it doesn't mean anything but some reassurance would be nice. I guess that comes next week at the u/s.

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? Buying ALL THING THINGS and getting the room ready. Our office will be relocated and we will have to make it into a nursery. I am the oldest on my side so there will be a lot for me to figure out.
  • How far along are you? 3 + 3

What are your symptoms? Just some mild cramping and very light brown/pink spotting

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? I have my first 8 week appointment on September 7th. My OB doesn't draw betas.

Rants/raves? Just excited! Hoping the spotting stops because it just makes me nervous but otherwise no rants yet.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Not right now

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? I think just figuring out our future budget and changing spending habits will be rough once we have to start buying baby stuff and paying for daycare. I'm also trying not to drink coffee which sucks! I know I can have a cup but I'm like super nervous to do anything right now lol
  • @JJMNO1616 I have been only drinking decaf. I can understand wanting it out completely but the decaf was a nice compromise for me. Although I really miss the morning kick in the ass from the caffeine!
  • Hi all!
How far along are you? 5 weeks 5 days (I think).  Since we did IVF the actual dating system is a bit wonky.

What are your symptoms? random nausea, food not staying down, fatigue, insomnia, increased smell, pain/tightness in lower abdomen, bloating

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? I had my first beta Wednesday, July 26th.. came back at 1912.  I had my second beta Friday, July 28th...came back at 4098.  Now (im)patiently waiting for my first ultrasound

Rants/raves? Why do symptoms come and go?  Having to have gone through ART to get pregnant, it makes me super nervous

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family?  Definitely our house.  I'm so glad to hear this is an issue with others as well.  We don't have storage in our house so things wind up piling up places, so I would like to organize things.  In that same vein we'll have to finish cleaning out the third bedroom to make a nursery.

How far along are you? 5w4d

What are your symptoms? tired, sore boobs at times, increased trips to the bathroom to pee, lower back soreness

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? I was supposed to go to my 1st appt. on 8/7 for an US but when I called today to question light spotting, my Dr. had me come in today instead. Unfortunately, not much could be seen but the gestational sac and beginnings of the yolk sac, but all looked good. Now I go back on 8/17 for an US instead.

Rants/raves? Just irritated with the Dr. right now, as she got me all worried for nothing. Better to be safe than sorry though. Unfortunately I was with a group of coworkers when I got the call that I had to come in ASAP, so I am hoping I don't get too many questions from them, as it is much too early to share the news at work.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Anyone else have HCG levels that started out slow to double? My first two betas calculated out to be about 72-73 hours of doubling speed. I had another one taken today, but haven't yet gotten the results. Since I'm an older FTM (just turned 37 last week) I was worried age was playing a factor, but my doctor didn't seem concerned.

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? We will definitely need to declutter some areas of the house and convert the office into a nursery.
  • How far along are you? 5w4d - hi EDD buds!

What are your symptoms? exhausted, peeing a lot (esp during the night, so annoying), sore and swollen boobs, nausea that comes and goes, food/smell aversions, can't focus on anything, super bloated

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? First appt is just after 8 weeks on 8/22.  This is my first PG and my only issue is super irregular cycles so no early testing here - hopefully all goes well until then and I can survive the wait!

Rants/raves? Got irritated the other day with my FIL who is very anxious for us to tell my SILs (we've only told our parents so far).  They are super excited but ask us when we're making the "big announcement" every time we speak to him and then is like jokingly all "oh come onnnnnn that's way too far away" when we tell him we want to wait until after my first appt.  I flipped out the last time to my DH bc I felt like they didn't understand that this is still SO early and it's our decision and they need to stop pressuring, etc.  On the flip side, my DH has been super awesome and is constantly checking in to make sure I'm doing ok and defers to me for things like what we're going to get for takeout.  I obviously cried over both of these things because #hormones

Questions for FTM, or STM+? None that haven't already been answered on the boards!

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family?  Lots of cleaning/organizing to turn our guest room into a nursery, and figuring out our clothing situation since the only closet in our entire house is in the nursery  :#  Also figuring out a child care plan for when my maternity leave ends, though we have a lot more time left to stress about that.

  • @saralee797-2 yeah I finished it but to be fair I got excited and started reading when we started trying and kept going like a maniac when i got the BFP. I like girlfriends guide because it's like you're talking to a very blunt friend. The writer is a mom of 4 that wrote about what drs tell you and how she coped with everything along the way. It's not as extensive as what to expect but I liked it.

@kindbytealikat I'll look into pregnancy week by week! Thanks!

  • @mrsrodgers83 each MC has been different in my experience, but I did not have anything that triggered concern until I started bleeding. My first one I just no longer "felt" pregnant, so I tested myself and it was negative. I started bleeding like a week later and had some pain that felt like super painful contractions for like 2 hours (this was within the first 6 or 7 weeks so I never had an OB appointment.)

The other 3 MCs I had no sign other than bleeding and no "contractions"

My recommendation is to call your OB if you are really worried, but IMO it's probably nothing. As your body adjusts to being pregnant you will feel a lot of weird things such as cramping, gas, etc.
  • @mrsrodgers83
there's gonna be a lot of pulling and cramping in the next few weeks and it's totally normal. Unless you are bleeding, you should tell yourself it's your body getting ready for what will take place in the next 9 months. I spent my first pregnancy looking at the TP every time I went to the bathroom looking out for blood, so I totally get the stress

  • @saralee797-2 If you can, read some of the Girlfriend's Guide before buying. I know a lot of people love it, but her writing style absolutely rubbed me the wrong way. I'm glad I had a friend who had a copy that I flipped through a few months ago, otherwise I probably would have picked it up.

    Hey!
    4w5d
symptoms: sore nipples, tired, crampy "twinges" in uterus, heartburn, hungry all the time, and constipation
appointment: confirmed with urine at OB, first ultrasound at 8 weeks
rants/raves: the secret is killing us! We can't wait to tell the world-only close family knows. Also-is it weird that I'm ready to "feel more pregnant?"
Adjustments: our budget and schedules. We are so used to being spontaneous, working late and crazy hours, and seeing friends whenever we want. Adding a baby is going to teach us true selfless love and sacrifice! ❤️

  • How far along are you? 4w4d

What are your symptoms? a little tired around 2-3pm

What appointments have you had/do you have coming up? How'd it go? On hold trying to schedule my first appointment.:)

Rants/raves? Raves: just glad to be here! Surrounded by others who also always check the TP!

GTKY: What is the biggest change you'll need to make now that you are adding a third member to your family? I'm at a crossroads with work where they want to promote me to portfolio manager but this baby is due four months after launch. It's going to be hard to figure out what to do, but a part of me wants to quit anyway. i'm good at my job, but I don't love it...
