  • @maureenmce @ladythrice my DS went through a killer sleep regression when I first got pregnant with DD. I swear they know when you're pregnant and think "hmmm I'm just not gonna sleep now. Ever." It's so hard and I totally feel your pain. @ladythrice that 1 year regression is particularly brutal. Solidarity.
  • @kmalls if you're interested, I read a great book on potty training called Oh Crap! Potty Training. Really easy read with a great strategy for PT. I know training can be a crap shoot based on the kid, but the process worked well for us!

    DS: EDD, December 19th, 2014. Born, December 19th, 2014!
    DD: EDD, July 18th, 2016. Born, July 19th, 2016!

Thanks!! I'll definitely read it. I think I'm just overwhelmed by the thought of potty training because I have no solid plan in place. Reading a book will go a long way, I'm sure.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Just excited to see him as a big brother
    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
Potty training. Daycare refused to help so I have no support from them. He had it down atbthe becoming of the summer but now won't even try. I got so upset with him this last week probably because of hormones so I decided to wait till Christmas break.
  • @luna8433 seriously WTF daycare. Daycare is one of the reason's my sister has had sucessful potty training.
So much this. I'm tempted to send DS just so they get potty training started for me!

Speaking of potty training, I wonder what any potty training veteran mamas think about whether I should try before this baby is due, or after the chaos of the newborn period.  (My nightmare is doing potty training DURING the newborn phase!) If we do it before, she'll only be 2 years and 1 month or 2 years and 2 months, depending on how long we think it'll take, when we start.  (At my due date DD will be almost 2 years and 2.5 months.) If we wait til after she'll be about two and a half.  I'd so appreciate any thoughts!

@luna8433 - Whoa, I would be super frustrated too!  That's a big part of day care!  I would definitely shop around for another daycare, if that's an option!
  • I know I am so frustrated with them. I have actually been thinking about a new daycare for this reason alone.

It would hurt to try but if she doesn't seem ready I wouldn't force it just to get it out of the way. But what do I know really I've been going at it since April

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?  My girl is a "take your time" person, and never rushed into anything. Normally I can just go with her pace, but occasionally I run across another kid her age, and I always end up feeling like she is developmentally behind said kid.  They are always more verbal, outgoing, and coordinated.  I know I just have to wait, but it makes me worry quite a bit for her.  I'm somewhat hoping that competing with a sibling will pick up her pace a bit.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :  I'm going through a hormone induced low period right now, so I sure I can figure out something once I am done being an emo 12 years old.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:. Does anyone else have a kiddo with really thick and fine hair?  If so, can you share any styling products that help to make said kid not appear like they are raised by wolves?  My kid looks like an angel for about an hour after a bath, then looks feral no matter what I do.

  • @maureenmce  I need the answer to your question too! My DS will be almost 2.5 when this one comes along, and I'm super nervous about trying to get it done before baby since I've heard boys tend to be harder to train.

How far along are you? 4 weeks

How old are your other kids?
    DS, 21 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?  just terrified in general about having two. The day we found out we were sitting and talking about it while DS napped, and DH pointed out we'll never have our 3-hour long breaks during nap time again. That was an obvious but scary thought!

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : I think DS is going to be such a great big brother. He's so silly and caring and loves to help- helping with baby will be another fun game for him!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions: my SIL is due with a boy in F18, so I really hope we have a girl just so we don't have to deal with fighting over names! We're both very traditional with baby names so I could see it happening.
  • @luna8433 I cannot believe daycare won't work with him. I used to be a daycare teacher and I feel like that's unacceptable!

@kmalls  I used the naked method with my son. I spent the weekend at home and had him naked from the waste down. After 6 months of trying other ways, I was amazed how well it worked. It's worth a shot, every kid is different and you will eventually find what works for the both of you!

    Almost 4 year old

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?

Being pregnant with a kid is so much different from the first time around. Ugh I'm exhausted and I almost feel guilty for being so exhausted

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :

I am so excited for my son to have a sibling. I honestly wish I would have done it sooner.
    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:

I just REALLY dislike being pregnant. I hate feeling sick and I hate feeling tired. And I hate being so moody. It's worth it I know, but why can't pregnancy be like walking on sunshine?!

Just the general feeling of "OMG, what have we gotten ourselves into, there's no way we can handle 2!" Haha! This is especially heightened when DD is being particularly combative/stubborn/a normal toddler...

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Same as several PPs, DD is going to be an amazing big sister. She can be so sweet and caring. She basically wants to do everything she sees adults do, and loves to help with cooking or chores, so I can see her being like a little mommy and very involved in LO's care.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
    None at the moment.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?
    All money and job related.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I just lovvve babies.  I can't wait to cuddle my little one with my big boy too.  Also, I think we already picked out names...wow, that was so fast and easy compared to the first time, lol.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
Anyone having dreams?  My entire first pregnancy, I had so many dreams where I had my son, but remember NOTHING of the birth.  It was just like one day he was there, and it bothered me so much that I couldn't remember having him.   Last night, I had one of those dreams again.  Whyyyyy

Like some of you I'm a bit overwhelmed with the thought of adding another one to the mix. DS is a sweet but pretty demanding and wild character (especially the last couple of weeks.. It's indeed almost like they know!) Personally,  I would have liked more time with him alone but I am happy with the age gap. Really dreading the postpartum period, scared also what this one will do to my body (still have physiotherapy).

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Loved our camping trip to France with just the three of us. Made me so happy to see DS enjoying every minute of it. @psuxray07, I have the most crazy and vivid dreams also!

DD still nurses once a day, and she told me my milk tastes different last night. She didn't nurse as long as she normally does (which isn't long to begin with). I wouldn't be surprised if she weans soon, and I hope the weaning process is gentle for her, and she doesn't connect it to the pregnancy in a negative way.
Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I'm just thrilled that our family is going to grow.
    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
Got an insurance quote back from the birthing center I'd like to have the baby at, and my OOP expenses would be just under $2000. I guess that's decent?
  • How far along are you? 7+1

How old are your other kids?
    DD is 2.5

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?  When I nursed DD we were always sitting with a bunch of pillows.  Now I'm worried how I'm going to do that and chase a future 3 year old.  I never nursed in a carrier but I'll assume that I'll have to figure it out.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : DD loves playing with her cousin so I can't wait for her to have a sibling.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:  I worry about the anxiety after the birth of this child.  I had really bad anxiety with DD and I'm hoping it won't be as bad.  Nothing like being scared to leave the house because of all the possible things that can happen.
  • @mispanda you'll figure it out. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world and (unless you're very well endowed) can be a bit challenge to finagle, but its possible. It made us doing Disney Land with a 29 month old and a 10 month old a breeze. The 10 month old just nursed and slept in the carrier.

Not many concerns beyond where baby will sleep and if this will delay our Dave Ramsey journey. Afraid of stealing the show from my sil who announced her first pregnancy yesterday (also due in April). I'll keep mine a secret as long as possible.  And share in her excitement.
Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I'm focusing every day and every moment on enjoying this process. Not worrying about what needs to be done or what could go wrong. Just embracing each milestone as we get there.

I think my son is starting his 18 month sleep regression. I hate sleep regressions soooo much.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I have been telling my son there is a baby in my belly. He loves to hug & kiss my belly. It really melts my heart. Even though he's just kissing my flabby belly.  :D

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:

Morning sickness & having one running around is killing me. Especially because I'm SAHM and I'm really good at getting us to the library, park, the in door play place, basically keeping him socialized. But since morning sickness is kicking my butt, I havent been doing nearly as much. My mom guilt is real.
  • @ladythrice we had a sleep regression from hell at 10,5months for 5 weeks. We had to do some hard core sleep training because I was about to lose my sanity!! I feel for ya!!

    how far along are you:
    4 weeks + 3

How old are your other kids:
    DS is 13 months

    current concerns/challenge:
the 2u2 scares me, especially since DS is a high energy kid. I'm the same, but I don't know how I'll keep up with a newborn and a tornado!! I also have some serious envy from those who can potty train. I almost puked on him yesterday morning when I changed his morning diaper

    Rant/Rave/Question:
I can't wait for my appointment 08/30 to hopefully see a heartbeat and be a little less stressed. We left for our 2 weeks vacation last night and I left my wondfo at home to stop my POAS obsession

  • @ndgraham one of THE BEST pictures I have of DS is him kissing my belly two days before I went into labor with DD. He was almost 19 months. I'll treasurer it forever!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?  There will be a six year age gap (thanks, SIF) so I hope they can still play together! I'm also realizing how much stuff we need! We are basically starting over since there's so many years between. But I'm not complaining, we've waited along time for this little bean!

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : I am actually loving the talks I can have with DD about Baby Seahorse. She understands a lot and she's so interested in how the baby is growing and developing. She also starts kindergarten after Labor Day so having alone time while she's at school and when the baby first comes will be helpful.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions: Nothinf off the top of my head.

    Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

  • @cards10 I calculated off of ovulation date instead of LMP. Based on LMP I'd be 4w4 day but I know I'm only 11 dpo today so I'm not that far along.

(I still did a little "squwee!" sound out loud to see you here.)

@fishsticks-n-custard Aha... the issues with assuming O on CD14. I told my Dr (well the lady on the phone) that I know I O'ed CD17 instead of CD14 but she said that wasn't enough of a difference to change EDD. I wonder what is. Maybe it all depends on how little bean develops.

And I knooooow!!! We've been twinsies on everything lol

  • @kindbytealikat I think it kind of depends on the doctor too. With my DD, my due date from my LMP and my dating ultrasound at 8 weeks differed by 5 days which was enough for her to change my due date. After the change based on the ultrasound, my due date corresponded to my ovulation date perfectly.

I'm only being picky about it because I have a pretty decent chance of getting induced at 37 weeks and I want to make sure baby is baked enough.
