30+ year old moms?

Re: 30+ year old moms?

  • I'm 32 now and will be 33 when the little nugget is born. Haven't felt old at all. It'll be my first and I think I'm in a better place financially and emotionally now than when I was in my 20s!

@kmalls Pregnant after 35 board.....I had no idea what ama meant until I read this thread. Wow, so much cattiness happening here!
  • I'm 32 with my third. Not justifying any of the old comments or potential AMA bashing, but I wouldn't be any more comfortable posting on the AMA threads as I would be posting on the FTM threads, so having a separate age group post that I actually fall into is kinda nice...

@nond135 and that's totally legitimate. It was the inappropriate comments that went along with this thread that took things in the wrong direction.

And as far as "cattiness" goes, @ivdr, I would suggest you post a little more and become part of the community before you start slinging insults.

So, just wondering, are you trying to pick a fight here?  You will find that it does not endear you to the boards.  It's also against the TOS.

Also, I had hoped it went without saying, but just in case, feel free to see yourself out if you're here to bash anyone. That is not the purpose of this thread at all. As a refresher, this is just a place to introduce anyone who is over 30... period.

Agree. Sorry if anyone felt like they were being called old (or even too old to be pregnant, which I know can be a sensetive topic). Those of us in our early 30s face different challanges than moms in their 20s or moms over 35 who may require additional testing/monitoring during pregnancy. Let's not let the unfortunate, and I hope unintentional, wording of one poster ruin this awesome thread.
  • Just turned 32 last week and found out this morning I am pregnant with my 3rd.

I'm 32 and pregnant with my first, and I definitely feel like an older mom. I didn't take offense to the thread title or comments in the least. As someone how is a FTM in their 30's, it's a different set of emotions than someone in their 20's or even women in their 30's who are now having their 2nd, 3rd, or more pregnancies.

Most of my friends who are my age (early 30's) have school age children because they all got married and started having kids right out of college. My friends who have recently had babies or are currently pregnant are in their early to mid 20's. IMP it's incredibly hard to relate to those younger moms.

In a perfect world I too would have been done having kids by now but it didn't pan out that way. I for one am glad to have a group of women my age to relate to.  I am actually very sensitive about my ago and being a FTM. I just got my BFP, and it was very unexpected this month. I actually refused to celebrate my birthday a couple of weeks ago because I was so depressed about turning 32 and not having any kids yet, and two losses so far. I'm still not offended by the thread. I treat it like any other - if the title offends you, don't come in

The title is not offensive, @toesinthesand-2. I'm happy none of the comments within this thread bothered you, but they bothered me and several others. How you perceive things is not how all perceive things, and unfortunately you can't dictate how others feel.

With that, I'm out. This thread is bordering on ridiculous.
  • @toesinthesand-2 I had the same feelings when I had my 1st at 31. All my friends are done having kids and people think I am in my 20's because I have a 2 year old. It makes it hard to make friends my age since I moved to a new area because they think I am younger than I am.

Oh wow, that is really harsh. Of course I would not be trying to pick a fight.
I was replying to a question. I felt comfortable in a 30+ thread....because the 35+ board(not meaning the AMA thread)didn't feel inclusive of 35 yr olds. I seriously had no idea what the AMA thread was until I was informed on this thread.
The only people starting fights here seem to be  certain people who are not comfortable with their period of existance.
We are all oldies over the age of 30, no matter how we feel about it. A sense of humour goes a long way too.
@kmalls  As for not being allowed to comment on something, because I have not had enough input on here....that is really unfair.
Anyways, in my defense, I have a very needy 21mth old toddler whom I am running after 24/7(only sleeps an hour at nap time, where I am catching up on domestic commitments) ....i'm sure many could relate.
I live in a remote country township, with 12 permanent residents...so we don't have a huge social outlet and the grandparents live 3.5 hrs away.
I feel there has actually been a bit of bullying going on here?? I moved from the big city to get away from pettiness.
Moving on, at the end of the day,   I love every minute I get to spend with my little one and don't have the spare time to post and comment as much as others do.
      Hopefully you can understand.

Just as an FYI: there are multiple (I think at least 4 so far?) 35 year olds on the AMA thread.  I'm 36 myself and posted there, plan to continue participating, etc.  There's a great spectrum of friendly ladies of lots of different ages!  I mean, if @ivdr (or anyone else) isn't comfortable there, no problem at all!  No one should hang where they're not comfortable!  But I just wanted to make sure other 35 year olds who may stop by this thread know that there are definitely people your age on the AMA thread and we'd welcome you if you want to join us!  :)

**rushes to return to the AMA thread before the light hits my face and you see I'm a withered old crone**

Edited to add: not offended, just joking around andplusalso a genuine PSA that there are 35 year olds on the AMA thread, so come hang out if you're AMA/if you want to! :)
  • Yea I didn't know I was technically AMA until this board either. I just thought this would be a cool board for women 30 and older. Guess I'll post in AMA unless some women want to continue this board. I haven't been personally offended by any one and am just praying my hcg numbers have doubled since last week since I spotted. So hoping we all have happy pregnancies and can move on! :)

@maureenmce  All good, never actually said I was uncomfortable in the AMA threads....I was meaning the 35+ board.
Didn't know what AMA was short for until the other day.
  • @ivdr Ah, I see!  Sorry, I was confused!  Well, feel free to hang out when we do our AMA checks in here if you like!  :)
  • @maureenmce i literally lol at "see I'm a withered old crone"
  • @ladythrice. I understand your intention, and I agree that a 30+ thread is a great idea (wish I had had it in my last group).  In fact I think a weekly thread would be a great idea.  I just think the reason that people got offended is the "old" comments.  Nobody here is old, and it's silly to think of 30 as old.  It's nowhere near close to it.  The fact that almost every single person who participated here had to defensively say "I'm not old" shows it has made people uncomfortable.

@ivdr there is literally only one person in this thread that is calling people names.  I am not catty, and I am not petty.  I am forthright, and don't have time for condescention or name-calling.  I find that to be a positive trait of being 30+.

I felt like most of the "old" comments were made jokingly and meant to be self deprecating. I didn't notice anyone blatantly call another poster old because they were a certain age.

I don't agree, but honestly that's one of the fault of the written word.  It's extremely hard to get everyone on the same page of interpretation of tone.

  • @jilliant26 totally agree :) it is hard when everything is written though sometimes. But I agree felt everything was in jest and mostly self deprecating.
  • I'm 31 pregnant with 3rd and last child haha xx
  • 32 here with a 6 and 4 year old

I read somewhere that last year (2016), for the first time, more women having their first child were in their 30s than 20s.
That really doesn't surprise me at all! I was definitely the first of my friends to have a baby when I was 25 - and most of them were extremely surprised I'd want to start the parenting gig so early. There are SUCH benefits to waiting, but there are also so many benefits to pregnancies earlier in life too. With the fertility help women can get nowadays, I don't blame women for wanting to wait longer.
  • I'm 36, pregnant with my second - had the first one at 34, perfect pregnancy, delivered on time, natural birth. I would have felt super uncomfortable in an ama thread it would freak me out. Just saying.

What would freak you out about participating on an AMA thread? Lots of women who are considered AMA have very uneventful, heathy pregnancies. Seems pretty inspiring to me.
  • AMA doesn't mean that we are all just on the verge of a pregnancy disaster.  I am 35 and so far this pregnancy is WAY less melodramatic and difficult than my first at 32.  I still love to talk to women who will be going through a slightly different process than non-AMA women.

It's comments like these that make me want to bang my head against a wall. HOW DOES THIS THREAD STILL HAVE LIFE.

@TahoeAugust AMA literally means you're aged 35 or over. That's it. An AMA thread should not have freaked you out when you were 1 year away from being there. I'm 35 and feel exactly the same as I did when pregnant at 34 and at 33. Doom and gloom are not predicted simply because I've hit this threshold.

Now for the love of all things holy, if this thread needs to continue, can people please refrain from making disparaging comments about being AMA? It's really not that hard.

@srprins1987   Thankyou so much for your post. You really hit the nail on the head.
I was actually too scared to write anything else on this site, in case I might  be chastised for saying something wrong. To be honest, I deleted the App and vowed not to go back....as my experience here had made me feel pretty down.
Although my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to check in.
Reading your words, really made my day. Thankyou again and I owe you a glass of wine once our little cherubs are born <3<3<3
