STM+ Check In (week of 7/31)

Re: STM+ Check In (week of 7/31)

  • @ejled IMO the CDC is being overzealous. They are saying they must be fuller sanitized after every use and no fridge storage.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?  Currently trying to survive the first trimester with a kiddo going through the terrible twos.  This Shiz is hard.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : My little girl is extremely sweet and loves babies, so I am hoping she falls in love with her sibling.  On the other hand, she is all sorts of a momma's girl, and I worry she will get extremely jealous (she gets upset with the cat being in my lap).

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions. I am a loss mom, and currently I am driving myself beyond crazy with pee sticks. This morning I got a faint line, and it pretty much ruined my day until tonight when I pulled a darker line.  I know it isn't mentally healthy, but I am obsessed with data and can't help myself.

  • No pump parts in the fridge!? That saved my life last time. I had low supply so I was nursing, then pumping for 15 minutes like every 3 hours. Here's to hoping BF goes better this time because I'm not sure I could do that while chasing DS!
  • @peppersmith22 @ejled @kindbytealikat I plan to keep my pump parts in the fridge this next time too, despite what the CDC says. I had two sets and sanitized after a full day of use. But sanitizing every time is insane. Maybe I'll buy a few more sets. Still crossing my fingers pumping won't be a 6x daily thing.

  • @kaymaroo i'm hoping to hold out as long as possible.  My LO is 4 and she can keep a secret but i'm going with the mindset "once she knows you have to be ready for everyone to know" She'll be with me at my 7-8 week appt. If she figures it out (which she probably will) we'll just talk about how i'll let her know when its ok to tell other people.

i've only told my SIL so far.  With my first appt being at 7-8 weeks i'm nervous to say much before we see anything.

I'm cramping earlier than I did with my first. Also not painful, just achy, same as when I was pregnant with DS around 5-6 weeks. I think maybe my body knows the drill this time around so it's like, okay let's hurry up and stretch out.

This time around is going to be weird for me. With the first three I ran an in-home daycare and stayed home with them. This time baby will go to daycare at 6 mos old because I'm teaching now.

Random: I cannot even fathom getting three young kids into the car every day. It's already a shit show with two, and I feel like it's going to be insanity when the next one arrives.
I feel your pain. Mine were 3u3 and going anywhere was crazy.

  • Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions
When will you tell your DS/DD that your are pregnant?  Once we tell her that means everyone will know and i'm not sure when I want that to happen haha
We won't tell the kids until I'm 12 weeks and ready to tell the world. They will tell everyone once we do. Last year my 4 yr old told everyone of my coworkers (I teach) I was pregnant when I wasn't, and some people believed her!
  • oh geez! that's what i'm afraid of too @lolablue3 I guess we'll wait it out for now and see.  I didn't want to tell her too soon or before I had a belly because it'll be the longest pregnancy ever listening  to "hey mom, is it time for the baby to come yet?"

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions
I guess my random questions are "Once this baby comes, will I ever sleep again? Will I ever have a clean home again? Will the laundry ever be done?"
  • @ndgraham, I hope either way you end up with a supportive provider!  I had a VBAC, and it was amazing.  I hope this next one is just as great!

  • I've heard good things about the Dr. So I'm hopeful but still terrified! Good luck on your journey for your next VBAC. @bettyvonsomethingstein
  • @ndgraham, good luck with the vbac.  DS was a vbac.  I am so fortunate my doctor is very provbac.  He was telling me I could vbac as he was telling me I need a C-section
Have you read the vbac rates for your hospital?

He is turning 4 on 8/18.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?
Concerns: The whole getting them in the car thing, can't afford daycare for 2 and have no family anywhere near us, worried DS will feel left out (he's definitely a mama's boy and the only little kid in both families), oh and this big one: DS was and is such a good baby/kid.  He always slept all night, usually always happy, has had zero tantrums, extremely friendly and outgoing, etc...I'm scared to death this baby will be the opposite of him.  Also, I'm worried they won't be close because of the age gap, which is way bigger than I wanted.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I'm glad my son will have someone else (to eventually play with lol).  I'm just happy because I've wanted another baby for like 3 years, lol.  I can't wait to feel the baby kicks again :)

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions
I got a nasty cold and a BFP on the same day.  So far I've been pretty miserable and exhausted and I just want it gone and for it to be Friday...pleeeease.

I have! I got kinda nervous because this is my first spontaneous pregnancy and don't remember so much action in there this early, but it must just be because it's not my first rodeo...? I'm still cautiously optimistic about it. Hoping it stays put!

The 4 year age gap is more than I wanted, as well, but I'm trying to now look at it positively. I don't fee like things will be as "crazy" with this age gap.... my daughter can get into her car seat and buckle herself in, pour her own cereal, get herself dressed. I think I'm going to be very thankful for it now! Right there with you, though, on wanting one for a LONG time. I saw that gap growing every single month.

@psuxray07 Your DS sounds like mine! Such a great baby. Everyone kept saying that we would be in trouble with our second, so I'm hoping that's not true! If you come up with any great ideas on affording daycare for 2 I'd love to hear them... daycare costs the same amount as our mortgage now with just 1.

Two under 18 months! So terribly excited, but how much stuff will I need a second of?  Crib, car seat, high chair, baby monitor!

How long did it take for you to start showing the second time around?  I'm really hoping to keep this pregnancy quiet as long as possible, but I don't know how easy that will be.  Maybe it helps that I still have a bit of extra weight from kid no. 1 that might help hide it?
  • @torabelle I'm cramping and didn't last time. I attributed it to my now old, tired uterus being forced to come out of retirement haha.

Me too!  I don't have to worry about diapers for 2, and he can help :)  He's "ok" at getting himself dressed, I still mostly do it because he's not fast enough in the mornings, haha.  And I have an Explorer, so it's high and he has to be lifted in, because I don't want his dirty little shoes all over my seats, lol.  But I have a friend who purposely had her kids this far apart and loved it.

Yesss, everyone was like, babies are so hard, etc.   And I was like, um, what?  He's so easy! lol.  Fingers crossed for us we get lucky again!  Bc I know my brother and I were definitely opposites.  My only idea of affording daycare for 2 is winning the lottery.  I'm kinda scared about it because I only work part time and 2 in daycare would be more than our mortgage.  And I'm like...if I could afford 2 mortgages, I would have 2 houses or 1 huge one, lol.

What bothers me more is dealing with carseats in the rain.  I despise being in the rain, lol. Also, getting 2 ready in the morning is scaring me because I'll have to do it on my own.  H has to wake up at 4am to get ready for work.  I don't want to wake up extra early *crying*

How old are your kids? 2.5 and 5

Current challenges? Remembering I'm pregnant, haha. Seriously it's so different this time how it's not at the top of my mind at all.

Current successes? My boys tell each other all the time that they love each other so I'm excited to see that love grow with another sibling.

Randoms: I'm not looking forward to telling everyone as much this time. Not sure why except I'm older and I feel some people will question having a third.

My little man doesn't know yet.  He gets a little confused as to why "mommy is always tired" or "why mommy's tummy hurts".  Right now my biggest challenge is the exhaustion I feel 24/7.
Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Just stoked to be growing our family! Oh yeah and I'm a teacher so bonus points for being due in April!

Dear Jesus this bloating and exhaustion.  I was sick as a dog with my DS, but never had bloating and was not near this tired.  I mean I'm only 4 weeks in and all my pants are tight.  I don't know if we are going to be able to keep this a secret much longer.

@shea1988 teacher buddies. I am looking forward to having a longer maternity leave than I did with my 1st thanks to the summer break.
  • @luna8433 and @shea1988 teacher here, too! I only took 8 weeks last time with DD in August '14. I am so excited for a long maternity leave. We are in a contract year, though, and I sincerely hope that strike is avoidable or my maternity leave will be cut short.

  • @tooraloorah @luna8433 @shea1988 also a teacher! I had DD may 6 2016 and took 6 weeks and then it was summer but it screwed up my summer pay so bad so this time if I come on time (April 8) I will do 6 weeks and go back for the last 3 weeks so my summer pay will continue as it should. Thankfully my husband can take FMLA and stay home during that time but pumping at school is going to be extremely interesting...
