@kiwi2628 Good luck!! That's an awesome amount of follies!
@leekat14 OMG - he gave you a pic of the embryo! My heart is rooting for this embryo so much!
@dpjennifer I'm sorry you find yourself here. Sorry for your losses. I hope you get answers soon.
AFM: My RE consult went well. I think DH and I have come to some decisions. 1 more medicated cycle with IUI and then we're on to IVF! Of course I hope this last IUI works, but I finally feel ready for IVF if it doesn't, and I'm excited that we have this option. I have some other life decisions to make so IVF will still be at least a couple months away, but I am at peace with this being our probable path now.
***general TW in the opening paragraph, mentioning children***
Hi ladies, I'm dipping my toes here once again after some encouraging words on the newbie guide shitshow thread (thank you, @lulu1180, I appreciate that you saw me). I introed in a panic about 6 weeks ago when my OB suggested testing, but I felt a little out of my element/awkward having just started on this IF journey, and also having 2 kids already. I really appreciated how welcoming everyone was that first time around, thank you so much for that.
Anyway, I just had my fertility appt today and we scheduled the whole battery of standard tests: blood work on CD 3, HSG (hsg? I think that's the right term? The dye test?) on CD 9, more bloodwork on CD 21. As long as nothing major is found, we'll then move on to medicated cycles.
I'm in the TWW right now and a big part of me is hoping I'll be able to cancel these tests, but....reality. I'll prob need them.
Diagnosis (If you've been): Unexplained IF (so far)
Cycle/CD: 8/17
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Nothing yet, testing starts next cycle
How are things going? So many emotions! Sad I'm at this point, but encouraged by my OBs enthusiasm that I'll get pregnant again. Also a bit relieved that there's a plan in place if I don't get a BFP on my own this cycle. I finally feel like I'm not just wandering around in the dark, hoping things suddenly work themselves out.
Any questions?
GTKY: Pack your bags! You're going on vacation! Where are you going and what are you doing? Jumping on a plane and heading to Bermuda with DH! It's my faaaaaavorite tropical destination and I'd spend 75% of my time on the beach drinking my face off, and 25% exploring the island on a moped. Gahhhh Bermuda is the best!
@madspunk I'm glad your RE consult went well and your at peace with the possibility of IVF (although FX you won't need it)
@kmalls welcome (although sorry you have to be over here). I'm new on this thread too. One thing--cd 21 bloodwork. Other ladies can confirm but unless you O right on cd 14, I think that bloodwork needs to be dpo 7. (I know I don't even O until after cd 21)
@kmalls@purplg8r I was actually just talking about this with my naturopath. Apparently, it is more important that it is 7 days before you expect your period. So if you have a shorter LP (mine is usually around 12), you may want to confirm when they want you to get it done. I was told around 5-6 DPO
@Sailing_Mama@purplg8r - interesting! I do typically O right on cd 14 (though there have been exceptions), but my LP is 13 days instead of 14. I'll call the OB tomorrow to clarify. Thanks for the tip!
@Sailing_Mama I'll ask my RE at my appt but I wonder what they do if you don't know your LP. (**TW** before my ectopic my LP was always 9 days. In the 2 cycles after it's been 10, then 11 days so I have no idea what it's going to be * end TW*)

AFM had my IUI this morning, all went well. DHs numbers were good we only abstained yesterday. I have a question for the room. I have a yearly obgyn appointment next week with a new provider. Has anyone ever been told not to get a pelvic exam or pap during the TWW or after IUI? I asked the midwife and she wasn't concerned but I don't trust her that much so wanted some other feedback if anyone has gotten different feedback from their RE?
Oh okay I should definitely be fine then, it should just be a pelvic exam. I can't remember if I had one last year or the year before and for some reason I thought it was every 2 years. This is a new OB I'm going to, the practice is at the hospital I work for and copays for US and other testing/BW would be covered. Plus I was going to the OB who is partners with my RE but they suck and didn't even send a remember postcard or email that I was due for a yearly exam in March.
AFM, like my IUI buddy @beachbunnyxo123 , my IUI went well. I kept telling OH that he is the best husband ever. He went to get me a snack while I was getting acupuncture, he kept me company while I had my vag steamed and the midwife washed our sperm, and he watched the IUI process with interest. He also woke up very early with me this morning to do the at home insemination and made sure I had a few orgasms after to help things along. I am indeed a lucky girl. Now in addition to the usual waiting, I have to wait for the temp rise to confirm O. I was slightly up this morning, but not I've O'd up. My OPK last night was lighter than positive, so I'm still pretty confident about timing, but we'll see...

Thanks love!! Everything went perfect! I spent the rest of yesterday at home relaxing and today I am working from home. The recommend 24 hours modified bed rest then things will go almost back to normal in the second week in terms of exercise etc. I'll just be hanging out until my beta!!
@beachbunnyxo123 I have no idea bc I have always been OOP. It was just part of my regular annual gyn checkup (with the PA) and then like an extra $40 lab fee.

**Lurking** I'm sorry guys, I know I don't go here, but I have to say something about this. PLEASE please please get annual pap smears. It scares me that it is even being suggested to go every 3-5 years. I had severe, high level cervical dysplasia that was caught on an annual pap, whereas the previous year's pap was totally normal. I had to have surgery and two other subsequent procedures to remove it. The whole process to remove it all took a year. If I hadn't gone and gotten that yearly pap, it could have been much much worse by the time they found it. **TW pregnancy**
When I delivered DD, my cervix was so scarred from my procedures that I wouldn't dilate and they had to manually break through the scar tissue to get it to open. This, of course, was a lot better than me having cancer and ending up with no reproductive organs at all, or worse.
Anyways, sorry again for butting in, but all of your lives, as well as your reproductive health, are way too precious to let insurance not paying prevent you from getting an annual pap. No amount of money is worth the risk of not getting it. Please protect yourselves.
Yeah, I'm totally shocked that 3-5 years is the new insurance 'standard'! I'd not heard of this before now. @beachbunnyxo123 I've gotten a pap every year with my annual exam. So Far I've not had a problem with insurance paying... guess we'll see if anything changes?

@dpjennifer yeah for some reason last year they told me they don't recommend it yearly anymore which I found strange. I definitely would rather get it than not. I just wasn't sure if there was any reason why I shouldn't get it after an IUI since we just started treatment this year so that part is new for me. I don't have time to hunt down all my medical records for my appointment Wednesday which is with a new doc so I'm just gonna request one anyway. Everything I saw online said there's no reason to not have a pap during TWW or after IUI
@purplg8r, @lund, and @dpjennifer It's too bad he doesn't know I participate on TB. He would love hearing that people think he's awesome, LOL. He wasn't always like this...don't get me wrong, he has always been supportive. But when we first started TTC, he made it clear that he'd have a hard time if it stopped being sexy or fun. So I think doing IUIs, where his part is already done in terms of the physical stuff, he can now open himself up to understand the science and mechanics of it without it affecting, ahem, performance. Pretty much everything about this has sucked, but being able to have more intention, knowing that what we're doing is exclusively to make a baby and not having to worry about getting in the mood, has made this a whole different experience.
We are very lucky to have not only our midwife, but several others in town, that are like her. Of course, we're only doing this because we have to use frozen sperm, and we're not doing medicated insemination. But I have to say that I'm grateful that this part of the process has been peaceful and pleasant.
That reminds me of something OH said that made me laugh. We were sitting in a room alone, steaming my vag and waiting for our midwife to wash the sperm. Her office is over a restaurant and it was really busy because it was dinner time (we ended up eating there after, and it was quite good). So he said, "This is all supposed to be peaceful and kumbaya and all, and all those people downstairs are being so noisy. I feel like going down and telling them that my wife is up here trying to get knocked up and they need to button it."

Just popping in to say that most insurances still cover annual pap smears, even though it's recommended to only have them every 3 to 5 years now. Which is stupid.

I'm sorry guys, I know I don't go here, but I have to say something about this.

@beachbunnyxo123 I've gotten a pap every year with my annual exam. So Far I've not had a problem with insurance paying... guess we'll see if anything changes?
