@saralee797-2 so happy to hear that things went well!! When is your beta scheduled?
@KariAnn323@dpjennifer I am sorry that you both find yourself here, but the ladies of this thread are an amazing source of support and information. I hope your stays are short. *hugs*
@alohakumu I hope your orientation went well today!!
@izza2 thanks girl! Yeah definitely stupid!!! I read something online that says you still can request them annually
Oh yeah, definitely. Your doctor shouldn't have a problem doing them annually if you ask. A lot of women take advantage of the new recommendation and go 5 years without a pap, and I could never do that. I had one abnormal pap a few years ago, and when my new Obgyn told me I didn't need a pap for 3 years, I laughed and told her I'd see her in a year.
Thanks, @GG620. (Love your recent betas!) The IVF orientation is later this afternoon, so if there are any cool details, I'll let you know!

The IVF orientation was extremely informative, but DH and I are both mentally exhausted. It was two straight hours of the doctor going over everything from consent forms to live birth statistics to payment methods to surgical procedures. (It was probably a 100-slide PowerPoint discussion.) I felt like I just sat down and read a whole volume of medical journals without stopping. There were probably 15 families there for the orientation, so there were
many questions and I got to ask about endometrial scratching, thanks to
all of you wonderfully informative ladies. (They will do it, if
requested.) The doctor clearly knows her stuff and I'm thrilled that she's going to be doing my retrieval.
We all got August IVF calendars that map out when we'll do our baseline ultrasounds, start Gonal F and/or Menopur, complete daily labs, take our hCG trigger shot, and complete the retrieval. We will also have to sign up for an injection class. We will be meeting with the doctor on May 31; she will do my saline sonogram during that visit, too.
We also got the most updated price sheet and were very disheartened to learn that they no longer provide any sort of discount for our provider, which they used to do. Realistically, it looks like our OOP is going to be about $15K for the next few months, but that will cover IVF with ICSI, TESE/TESA, all PGS testing, storage of embryos/oocytes, and the FET. I realize that many families have to pay more and I should be thankful, but that's still a reality check.
If you have any other questions about a particular element of the discussion, I'd be happy to give you any information that I received!

Oof! Yeah it is a lot to take in... @AlohaKumu. Lots of deep breaths, and one step at a time... :) we had a heart attack/ had to regroup and come up with a plan too when we saw the pricetag. So far, it sounds like it's going to be So Much more manageable, but we have to pay for PGS up front and wait to be refunded bc it's out of network? So that's annoying. And waiting to hear how/if the actual biopsy part prior to pgs will be covered. Phew. Luckily, you definitely don't have to have it all figured out just yet, or all at once. (((Hugs)))
Hey! It sounds like we will totes be stimming buddies!! Or almost??? When is your August AF expected? It's all coming up so fast now... ❤
@BusinessWife I swear sometimes that tape hurts waaaaay more than a needle!! Lol and I feel like such a sissy when I'm taking it off, but damn... PS you're getting so close!!!
@AlohaKumu wow sounds like TONS of information! But I guess better to overinform couples! I'm happy that you're very comfortable with the doctor that'll be doing the retrieval too! The prices for all of this shit sucks. I've only gotten a paper with IUI prices so far but I still got into my car and cried. I just keep saying it'll be worth it!
I have a question for anyone willing to read and answer... my progrsterone was a bit low yesterday (7 and they want to see 9). So I'm waiting for a delivery company to call me about setting up a progrsterone suppository delivery for me today. I couldn't get to the office yesterday afternoon to pick it up and they said pharmacies around here no longer fill prescriptions for it? Whatever. Anyway...woke up this morning to light pinkish spotting. I'm guesstimating I'm at 8dpo-ish (they monitored me all cycle so I took a break from temping and now I'm kicking myself) So my question for you ladies is...would you fill and use the progrsterone until your bloodwork appt on Wednesday if you're already spotting?
@50wife I would still try the progesterone if your doctor directs it. (tw - bfp) My BFP cycle, I had started brown spotting A LOT before my bfp. I was certain I was out but I just kept having spotting and not flow until my period was a full day late and my temp was up so I tested. When I got on crinone, the spotting stopped and I was good to go. (end tw) I also had to get my progesterone from a specialty pharmacy -- the CVS near my work and the Rite Aid near my home don't carry it.
@alohakumu Thanks for sharing the info. That does sound overwhelming, but also so exciting and long-awaited for you guys! We got the price sheet for our PGD yesterday, and the costs are pretty frightening... We're going to budget everything this weekend and see where we come out.
@alohakumu@businesswife I'm so glad you guys are going up soon -- both because you need to get your babies already and because I want to learn everything I can from your experience before we go in! Our PGD will take 6-8 weeks after samples are in, so we're looking at a mid-September egg retrieval at the earliest.
@BusinessWife We are totally going to be stimming buddies! They are putting me on BC and will stop it on August 10, so I'll expect a period after that. They plan to start me on Gonal F and/or Menopur on August 13, as long as all goes well during the baseline ultrasound before that. I've never been so excited to take shots with someone before--not even at the bar.
@adirat Feel free to ask questions at any step along the way. I've been reading through the IVF experiences on the threads for several months now, so I felt somewhat prepared for yesterday's presentation, but actually seeing everything on a calendar makes me realize how intense this process really is. I told my husband to be prepared to go to the clinic daily next month. (He also realized how much more I'll have to do throughout the process.)

@alohakumu You have to go to the clinic daily? Wow, I didn't realize it was so intense -- I thought it was like 2-3 times per week. Is that typical? Do people usually have to take time off work?
@adirat During stims time, they said I will have to go for a daily ultrasound and bloodwork. The timeframe is more like a week than a month for the daily check-ins. However, because the retrievals will be in a different location than the medical clinic, we'll have to go to both locations for information and paperwork. (It seems like our situation is somewhat unique in this respect.)

@adirat Absolutely! Anything we can share/ learn from each other always helps! Whwn you say 6-8 weeks for PGD to come back, are you talking about bloodwork tho or testing on the embryos after retrieval?
@50wife. I agree, definitely just take it anyway ;) you never know!!!
@BusinessWife No one has gotten in touch with me about a delivery. So I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that I'm going to have to call the re's office on Monday and thank them for nothing.
@businesswife When I talked to the genetic counselor at the PGD lab, that's the timeline she gave me. Remember, we are doing PGD for a genetic disease -- not PGS. PGS, as far as I know, doesn't require any upfront work, whereas for PGD, they have to create a DNA probe in advance of any embryos arriving at the lab.
So, first we have to pay (budgeting this weekend to send the PGD lab the first installment, yippee). Then we send blood over to the lab -- fortunately our RE will do this for us at our IVF consult appointment next week. Meanwhile, the genetic counselor is in the process of getting fetal DNA from the baby we lost from that other lab. I actually just heard from her a couple days ago that the lab still had her fetal DNA available...it was such an emotional moment for us. The baby we lost will be saving our future babies from the same fate. Cue the hardcore tears. While it makes losing her all the more real and salient to us, again, it's also kind of beautiful to think how meaningful her short gestation will be for our family (Sorry I am crying again just thinking about it! So many emotions)
The PGD lab uses the DNA samples from the three of us to build a DNA probe that will allow them to identify the good versus bad X chromosome in our future embryos. This takes 6-8 weeks to create, since it must be done for each couple individually.
Once it's created, then we can do our IVF cycle. I'm guessing it'll be around mid-September for the egg retrieval. They will remove one cell from each embryo to test, using the probe they created. That part takes two weeks to get results and see which embryos are healthy.
It's a long process and we have gone back and forth a lot since May to decide about IVF. You guys know -- it isn't an easy decision. And since I was able to get pregnant naturally once, we especially weren't sure about it, but the stats I was given were that any pregnancy I have would be a 1/3 chance of the same thing in future babies (genetic disease diagnosed in second tri). I don't think I could handle that again. When we found out that the lab still had our baby's DNA available from my pregnancy, which could be used for the PGD, DH said that it felt like a sign that this is what we were meant to do.
@adirat That put tears in my eyes. I picture the baby we lost as a girl for some reason, and I think of her as always with us. I'm so glad that your little girl's DNA can do your family so much good. That is just amazing. And I love that your H sees it as a sign. FX so hard that this path leads you to grow your family.
@AlohaKumu and @BusinessWife Having a buddy is so nice. I'm so lucky to have two this cycle. Can't wait to hear about your journeys!

Gahhh! @50wife can you not just get ordinary progesterone tablets from CVS or Rite Aid or ANYWHERE?? They really don't have to be special suppositories to do the trick! I don't get why they are making it so damned complicated for you!!!
@purpleg8r. Yeah, I think I know the stuff you mean. I love that stretchy stuff! They were using that stretchy wrap last time I donated blood, too!
This tape reaction makes me a little nervous For my ER, bc I vaguely remember having an issue with one of the tapes ages ago when I was a kid in the hospital, but I can't remember which one... maybe the paper tape? (Which is what she used this time) but then I also remember using a lot of that clear plastic easy-tear like bumpy stuff?? I'm 90% sure though it was the paper tape that gave me a rash before... which is not supposed to cause a reaction!
DH says next time just take the tape off right away. That was my mistake - leaving it on all day under a 3/4 button shirt sleeve... it hurt so much taking off the one side, I'm like ugh let me just rip off the other side quick - Hahhaa. Haha. Literally tore a bruise into the other side coming off. :( it looks terrible. Hopefully lesson learned... :/
@BusinessWife I have a reaction to medical tape and band aids. I don't have any allergies but If any of those two things get on my skin I get a nice red rash after. It could be the adhesive who knows. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone.
