Trying to Get Pregnant

IF/Testing Weekly Check In - Week of July 3

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another.  Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say, and treat this like an ongoing conversation.

Diagnosis (If you've been):

Cycle/CD:

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)

How are things going?

Any questions?

GTKY: Tell me about something fun that you're doing this week!

  • @lund GL Friday! I agree with @50Wife, although the procedure isn't that bad, it's nice to have someone with you (especially with such a long drive!)

    @lulu1180 FX this is your cycle!

    @50Wife I am so hoping that you get that HSG magic!

    @lulu1180 sorry for the shake up at work. Those kinds of things are always stressful. FX you're KU so the work drama feels like NBD ;)

    @50Wife yay unblocked tubes!!! And it sounds like you have a fun week coming up - enjoy!

    @zwink1  I'm sorry to hear about the fight. I feel like this kind of stuff just automatically puts you on edge and stresses everyone out.  Is he up for going to talk with someone?  I feel like people are either totally for or against that kind of stuff
  • lundlund member
    @zwink1 is he open to talking to a professional? IF is such a mindf*ck, and I can't imagine not having someone to talk to about it.

    @JuneRoseRuby do you think YH is being so optimistic in an attempt to help? I kinda do this when MH stresses about finances - like I feel that if I agree or commiserate with him in the stress then it validates his concerns and will make him worry more. Sounds pretty dumb now that I typed that out, but for better or worse it's what I do. Or maybe YH is just firmly rooted in denial, which is super frustrating.

    @tamalahoops thanks! I'm leaning towards just driving myself because I'm an introvert anyway, so the idea of being trapped with an annoying friend is awful lol. And, I'm almost more afraid that my RE will dismiss my possible DOR - Iike I'll realize that my RE is a total dud because of this (and this RE clinic is the only one in the state). Of course I don't want to borrow trouble, but the BW numbers don't lie, and it seems like pretty common knowledge that number like mines aren't good.

    @Hollyyyyy That's good to know! I've been on it about 2.5 months. I started it before the beginning of this "cycle" (which was like 67 days ago). But I have a family history (mom) of endometrial cancer (caught SUPER early, thank God, and cured by a total hysterectomy), so they don't want me having cycles that are too long and are forcing a cycle every 60-ish days. Maybe the Metformin is JUST about to start working for me. Although it did kill my appetite for a while (I swear I've only had it back for a couple of weeks), so it really helped me to lose the last couple of pounds I wanted to. Although those were vanity pounds since I'd already gotten my BMI just below 25 through blood, sweat, and tears. Granted my starting BMI was just over 25, so I didn't have all that much to lose. I've only lost about 10-12 lbs total. But holy cow was it hard. My metabolism has never been great. So at least the Metformin has been successful so far in that respect.
  • @WillRunForWine21 Yay for the IUI!!! Keeping fx for you!!!! All the exclamation points!!!
  • @beanship Oh wow, so glad everything was caught early on with your mom!  <3
    I haven't really have any SE with Metformin, thankfully. Hopefully it kicks in for both of us sooner than later, and we get those 28 day cycles I have heard about!
    I'm meeting with my RE on Wed afternoon to discuss our next steps (probably IUI), so I have a feeling I have more drugs (Clomid or Femara) in my near future.

    @WillRunForWine21 Yay IUI! GL today!

    @leekat14 Hope your checkup goes well today!

    @WillRunForWine21  good luck today!!!!

  • @Hollyyyyy Have you done medicated TI cycles before, or are you guys just jumping straight to IUI? Is PCOS the only issue (or is there a male factor involved too)? Haha yeah I think the only time I've ever had 28 day cycles was when I was on the pill.
  • @sbarluccico I understand the anxiety. We've all felt it. But to use a phrase I've used a lot today - don't borrow trouble. It's hard not to think about the "what ifs." But there are so, so many what ifs in life. There are two ways to deal with it. 1) focus on the present and deal with whatever comes in the future whenever it happens. 2) If you can't stop yourself from thinking about the what ifs, then make a plan to deal with them. That way, when you start worrying about something, you have an answer for yourself - an action plan.
  • @beanship That's what we are going to discuss at my appointment later this week. My RE was concerned about my husband's morphology, but as I've learned here, everyone seems to have a different idea of what's "normal", and it's really not as bad as she made it sound. So...TBD!
  • @tamalahoops do they give reasoning behind scent free? It makes total sense from a comfort point of view but I was wondering if they also cited estrogen induction etc. Just curious!

    8/17: third IUI, 5.0 letrozole,

  • @WillRunForWine21 from my consent form "due to how harmful scented products can be for our embryos, patients who arrive for a procedure wearing a scented product will be ask to either reschedule or shower before their procedure." And then they list every product that could possibly have scents including laundry detergent, cosmetics and things like cigarette smoke and scented tobacco vapor.

    So I'm not sure what the actual scientific reasoning is but there are signs all over the office explaining why there are no scented products in the bathroom etc.

    I've gone down the rabbit hole of internet stuff on PCOS today (super slow day at work here), but I just came across this scientific study abstract that showed that drinking spearmint tea 2x per day for a month significantly lowered the androgen levels of women with PCOS. Interesting. Looks like I'll be picking some spearmint tea up today. Anyone heard of this before?
