Re: Weekly Appointments 6/26

  • I have a growth scan ultrasound and appt Thurs. Super excited to see baby girl again as I haven't had one since 18 weeks.

  • Have my BPP ultrasound tomorrow and an appointment after. I'm finally going to meet the other doctor in my practice. As much as I'd like the guy I've been seeing to deliver the baby, I want to at least meet the other doctor in case she's the one that delivers.
I also have a growth ultrasound Friday. I'm excited to see baby boys size.

  • I have a midwife app tomorrow afternoon and we will decide if I am getting a growth scan. At my 28 week appointment I was messuring at 32-33weeks. She said at this 32 week appointment if I still measure 4+ weeks then she will order a scan just to check things out. I don't want a giant baby or high fluid levels, but on another hand I'd like to see my baby again. Although I won't be disappointed if I don't. I also have to do my glucose test this appointment as well.

  • Friday-just a measurement check etc. My doctor won't do the US to see baby size/ position etc until 36. I wish we were doing it this week since I will be 35weeks on Friday! So, I will be almost 37wks when we do the US etc.
Our office has 13 doctors, I have not met anyone outside of mine, so that is a little nerve-wracking. But I can't worry too much...
    TW:
    1 infant loss
    8/17: Our daughter was born
8/18: Our daughter kicked open heart surgery ass
2/19: We lost our son to Prader-Willi/Paradoxical Vocal Cord/ Noonans at 6wks old
    4/26/2020: EDD for baby #3!!!
  • STMs what are cervix checks like? Apparently I'm getting one next week.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @Kathryn0903 do you know if they're planning to induce or will it be via a csection? I'm excited for you to meet your LO!
Cervix checks are just pressure. Not comfortable, IMO but, not bad either.

  • @Kathryn0903 That must have been a surprise to hear that today. How are you feeling about everything? I know they've been talking about delivering at 37 weeks, but it wasn't 100% official until now. Hope you're doing ok- you get to meet your LO so soon!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @bumpybump the current plan as of now if all goes well is to have me induced. I'm very excited to meet him, but a little freaked out now that it's a for sure thing that it will be so soon.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @secicc12 yeah it's a little bit of a shocker. I knew it was possible but to have it official makes it all so real. I'm a little freaked out, but I'm sure I'll be a mess next week and the week after.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @Kathryn0903 Im excited for you to meet your LO, but wow, 2 weeks! When my OB was talking about induction (she hasnt said anything since), I went home and did the math, and started to freak out a bit.  Im impressed at how well you are taking it!

Mommy to a super cute havanesse puppy and baby boy!
  • had my 34 week appointment today baby is finally head down. was worried he wouldn't turn in time for me to have i
him in the birthing center. heart rate was fine but my fundal height was four cm short of what i should be measuring. midwife wasn't too concerned because i've been measuring about 2cm short every other visit but four seems a lot to me. with DD i was always measuring what i should have and she was 8lbs.  maybe he's just gonna be a smaller baby. anyone else measuring big/small or had a small baby with a small fundal height during the pregnancy?
  • @littlebug2010 I think it's helped knowing for 2 weeks already that the 37 week delivery was likely. I feel like next week will be when the real panic sets in.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @breanna428 I'm a FTM so can't speak for birthing a baby, but two weeks ago I suddenly stopped making fundal height progress. They sent me for an ultrasound and she's totally fine- measuring at the 47th% percentile.

Another friend of mine experienced the same thing around this time, and had a baby in the 6lb range (can't remember exactly). Her kid (who's 4 now) still measures on the small side but is in perfect health.

AND for what it's worth, when I was a child I was measuring in the 10th percentile for growth but was always perfectly healthy. Bottom line? Some people have to bring down the average

As long as your midwife isn't concerned, in turn I wouldn't be concerned about having a baby on the petite side. Are you having another ultrasound to check the growth?

  • @DeansGirl14 thanks for the reassurance. i'm not having another u/s unless there is a problem like me not making any more progress at all by next appointment plus i've only gained 12 lbs so far and i had gained 25 at the end with DD. yeah maybe he will be petite like me i'm only 4'11". i was always in the 0 percentile after i hit puberty in 5th grade and stopped getting taller lol. maybe he will be a shorty and DD be average height like her dad lol
  • kvh22kvh22 member
@breanna428 FTM here as well but I think size at birth has some but not even close to everything to do with overall size later on. I was 7lbs 7oz and always 5th percentile growing up. I eventually reached 5'4" after puberty (which I hit at age 16) whereas my brother was 2 weeks late, 8lbs 8 oz. and always in the 90th percentile (he's 6'2"-6'3" and has been since he was like 15). My sister was right in the middle of us for weight at birth - she and I were both basically on time - and growing up she was always pretty average but topped out at 5'4" just like me.

@breanna428 I'm in Germany and my doc has never measured my fundal* (lol not fungal) height he says it's not accurate enough to matter.
With DD they said she was going to be HUGE she came out 20.something inches and 7 pounds 10 oz. Perfectly average. I'd try not to worry about it too much if I were you.

  • We're 34+3 today. Had my NST today and baby looked beautiful and active, however, I did not. I was having rhythmic/regular contractions about 4 min apart so they sent me over to L&D for further monitoring. They pumped me full of fluids and the contractions got less regular so I'm taking it easy the rest of the day and hoping that my body decides to calm the hell down. I am going to soak in an Epsom salt bath tonight as I am told that can help with contractions. I see the doc again on Friday. My midwife seems relatively unconcerned so I'm trying to take that as a good thing and just take this one day at a time.

  • Dumb question of the day.... what are these Epsom salt baths you guys talk about?  And how do I go about making one for myself? Haha

Buy Epson salt, put a cup or two in a warm bath, get in the bath. Relax.  :)

@kristenk727 epson salt baths are amazing! I like the epson salt that smells like milk and honey.
  • 35 weeks tomorrow and had a check-in today. Heartbeat is normal, baby is head-down like normal, she's kicking the crap out of me like normal, and my blood pressure is normal.

I did tell the doctor that I'm having those irrational fears based on horror stories of late term loss and I asked if there was any way to anticipate those issues. She said if there was any way to tell, there wouldn't be the horror stories. Going to have to channel the mindfulness practices of acknowledging thoughts and letting them go, and focusing on the positive.

  • I had an appointment this week at 32+1. Blood pressure, weight and heart beat were all good. Baby is still breech, but the doctor said we wouldn't worry about it for a few more weeks. Flip baby, flip!
  • I had an appointment today and found out at my next one I get another ultrasound.  I was a little surprised and asked the doctor about it because with DS I did not get one.  Apparently because I live at a high elevation there are some additional complications that can arise so it is standard procedure.

  • I recently just found out my placenta is in the front. And today's appointment she said I'm measuring at 35 weeks (I'm 33). I thought baby girl was laying in the front and top of my belly pushing out sometimes because it would be really hard, but apparently those were contractions. She said I will get an ultrasound in 2 weeks to check her size, because she thinks "this is a big baby and her head is up."
  • @erindippity I didn't find out mine was either until I was a little further along, read it in my online chart - they never mentioned it at ant ultrasounds! I know its coming, but still feel like they should've called it out!

I'm 31+3 and had an appt today and I asked if I'll have anymore ultrasounds and they said no, they'll just keep measuring my stomach. I was hoping to get size estimates and know what position he is in closer to my due date like some of you are mentioning!
  • @kaityrj it seems getting extra ultrasounds is a combination of what's normal for your practice and what's needed from your health indicators. I would have only had two- the one at 11 weeks and the one at 20 weeks. I only got a third because I started measuring behind schedule so they wanted to check the baby's growth too.
At yesterday's appointment (I'm 35 weeks today btw) the doctor prodded and squeezed my bump to check where Baby was positioned. At this point it's easier to feel the baby and she could tell the baby was head-down. So... I guess just be patient  ;)

  • I had an appt scheduled for Tuesday but ended up admitted to the hospital instead. I have bronchitis and coughed myself into labor, literally. Luckily they got contractions to stop and I only dialated to a one but still a little scary. I got released last night but still feel miserable. Trying all kinds of meds and breathing treatments to keep the coughing away and hoping baby stays put for at least a few more weeks. While I was there they did a growth scan and baby is doing great at around 5lbs 9oz at 34 weeks.
  • @aeholden-2 that must have been scary! Take care of yourself and LO-sending 'stay put' vibes.

  • Had my ultrasound and appt today. Was fun to see her again. She was so active they had a hard time getting her to calm down to see what they wanted.

And she's measuring 6lbs 9 oz already which seems HUGE to me but they didn't seem concerned. I'm only 34 weeks. My DD was 7lb 6 oz at birth (38 weeks).
  • @belmont1785 I had a growth scan at 33 weeks and my LO measured at 5.5 pounds.  I was told thats the 80th percentile. I wouldn't be too concerned, my doctors weren't.  The US tech even said he was measuring right on track, so I would assume he's a bit smaller than what the US said.

Routine appointment today which included Group B Strep swab and they checked me. I have zero progress and head is still high (expected both of these to be the case). Discussed VBAC more and he advised me not to even schedule a csection yet even if it's after 40 wks. I really wish these doctors would align. But, I'm glad he's encouraging the VBAC route. Also scheduled the remaining appointments for this pregnancy. On to weeklies I go.

@PinkPrincessPiper I saw you asked when they'll start to check you. I was checked today at 35 wks. I feel like this was early but I was still checked. I wonder if it's because I want a VBAC.

  • @Kathryn0903 Don't worry... they could be off by quite a bit. Baby still has two weeks to go! That's another pound or so right there.

I have another NST this afternoon. Had my GBS swab done the other day since it's likely I'll be delivering soon due to developing pre-e. Can't believe how close we're all getting!

  • @Kathryn0903 I'll echo what secicc12 said. You have a couple more weeks so he can certainly get bigger yet. Plus, ultrasounds arent super accurate. he could have been in an awkward position making measurements off.

Just had my 34 week appointment. I feel like I got zero of my questions answered! All I got was that everything is going as expected. I told him my concern with my thyroid level and it was like he didn't take it seriously. Ugh.
  • Thanks @secicc12 and @bumpybump. He gained a pound in 3 weeks so hopefully he continues to grow at that rate.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @Kathryn0903 DS always measured right on track. At 38 weeks he measured 7.5. He was born at 39 +2 at 9 pounds 5 oz.
