Hi everyone.. new member here. Someone in the newbie thread suggested I post here due to recent test results, as I am sure many of you wonderful ladies have been through the same thing we have just been faced with and I could use some extra love, support & guidance right now!
Diagnosis (If you've been): Husband just got his SA back and showed zero sperm. Like not even one
Cycle/CD: We have been trying for 9 months.. I am actually ovulating today (CD15), but I guess that's pretty useless given recent diagnosis. Still gonna give it a whirl tonight, though!
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): I honestly don't know what WTO or TTA means....
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): I just finished labs & HSG. All normal for me. Husband just finished first SA and will go in for a second next week to confirm. Fingers crossed they find something, anything, that they can use!
How are things going? Not very well. It was fun at first, understanding my body and my cycle and having lots of BD. Then after about 6 months I started getting worried and it stopped being as fun. Now we are both just devastated and do not know what to do. I mean obviously we go in for another SA then go see a urologist if it continues to end up negative, but I mean I feel pretty hopeless right now, probably like many of you do. I honestly wish it was some thing wrong with me as opposed to him. He does not deal with stuff like this very well and he is having a harder time than I am.
Any questions? Has anyone been through this? I guess it's called azoospermia?
GTKY:Something witty and creative.. I got super boring and just used my name!
Welcome. WTO = waiting to ovulate TWW = two week wait (aka the time after ovulation) TTA = trying to avoid NTNP = not trying, not preventing Benched = unable to try due to medical restriction
I would pitch for calling the urologist now to get on the calendar. I want to give you hope, but it's really really rare for them to have such a massive lab oopsie that they would say, "Lolz, j/k, he has a 57 million sperm, all swimming straight and fast, all champions." I hate the waiting so anything I can do to minimize that is great. Does your RE's office have urologists on staff or any they recommend? Not sure where you're located. If you're in a more rural place, you may just have to take what your town has in the way or urologists but if you're in a more urban area, you're more likely to find someone who really specializes in fertility. If you can, go to that person. We've had at least one here who had a piss-poor experience with a general urologist and a completely different one when they saw one who specializes in fertility. Also, you might consider asking them if it would make sense to freeze it if that next sample has sperm. Depending on where you are, it might be a few hundred bucks but if it's going to be a big struggle to get sperm, I'd feel better having some frozen. Hopefully they can figure something else out but that might give you a backup plan.
There haven't been as many breakthroughs in MFI but there are some treatments, depending on the cause.
The other thing I will say is that while IF is hard on all of us ladies, and it is a bit of an ego blow for us, even though we don't look at others that way and it's not logical, it's been really hard on the guys. Be extra kind to YH right now. He really needs to know that you love him and think he's a very manly man, sperm or no sperm.

Thank you so much everyone for the well wishes! It made me feel all warm inside that so many people here wished me luck and reached out The IUI went really well. We were a bit anxious b/c MH doesn't love filling cum buckets at 8 AM (go figure!) and he was worried it wasn't enough, but RE said there were "tons" (love her medical terminology) and all is good. Having mild cramping now but NBD.
BIG heads up though to people lurking who are considering future ART procedures in the state of California: I have seen lots of ladies post on here about their H's not being available to accompany them to their IUIs and just give the lady the sperm sample and go to back to their jobs... well, I'm really glad we didn't do that and that MH came today because they made him sign a form agreeing to the use of his sperm, citing a CA legal code. Don't know the sitch in other states, but anyway we were not warned about that and I'm glad it didn't end up being an issue for us, but I wouldn't want someone else to have to miss their procedure for something so seemingly small.
ETA deleted tag b/c realized it might be insensitive to include in same post and wasn't super helpful anyway and feel kinda bad now and hoping no one noticed.
Oh, and as @adirat said, I do go to fertility acupuncture. I love it! I agree about the relaxation part...I think of it as my weekly centering. Also, I do think it has helped my cycle. My LPs were even shorter before I started doing it. Also, my acupuncturist is an herbalist as well, and has really helped with things like identifying my dairy issues and that I was low on progesterone.

@LeilaK9288 Welcome! You're not alone. Please go back and read the IF checkins to get a better feel for what people are dealing with, as well as the Benched/TTA check-in from last week, in particular. There was a pretty in-depth convo about azoo there. Assuming the repeat comes back the same, and depending on the cause, IVF+ICSI is a very promising course of treatment that wasn't even available to azoo patients until maaaaaaybe 20 years ago, in its infancy. But don't quote me on dates lol. You're definitley not at the end of the road yet - far from it. (((Hugs)))
Oh, also update for me. Had an ultrasound this morning and although I had two big huge cysts they are NOT producing progesterone so I have an official transfer date of 7/12!

@BusinessWife I don't really know the names for things, but that is quite similar to what I did, although I had one more stim med and I don't know about the low dose HCG thing...
@BertieMeetsGertie Something about my immune system....not going to lie I wasn't paying attention to that part. I was going to send a message later today.
@madspunk Girl, take care of yourself. There is a Beat Infertility podcast I just listened to about taking a break. I thought it was helpful. Listen to it if you have half hour and maybe it will help to give you some direction for your well deserved and needed break. I've been there and needed the breaks too. I think they really help to reset and refocus. We are here for you when you return!
@LeilaK9288 Welcome, sorry you find yourself here. My H was fairly close to Azoo as well. He had three non motile sperm. So our chances are zero as well. We are working with a urologist that specializes in MFI (Male infertiltiy factor). He ran some more testing when we got there and we also found out MH has a chromosomal abnormality which will impact our chances. So H has been on clomid since February. Typically the course for males is three months. They often recommend supplements. MH is on Theralogix supplements. His estrogen was high after one month of checking, so they added an estrogen blocker and wanted to postpone the repeat SA for a few months to let that do its thang too. So we are scheduled for our repeat SA next week. If his count is up, then we will try to pursue IVF + ICSI + PDG (needed due to the chromosomal abnormality). There can be a lot of reasons for MFI-hormone imbalance (will do drug therapy), tubal blockage or abnormal development of tubes/anatomy (can attempt surgery), lack of maturation (nothing they can do about this). There are also other procedures out there called a TESE or TESA that can extract sperm from the testicle to do an analysis on the quality. Based on that procedure, IVF + ICSI may also be possible. Stick around, these ladies in this group are wonderful resources and fiercely loyal.

@leekat14 interesting! I like to ask because my DH fights with patients every day about improper antibiotic use and there are certain places (ahem, urgent care) that prescribe them like candy. I'm sure your RE has a good reason though! I can imagine you are running on info overload at this point.

Okay. I am mostly up to date. @antoto - Holly Eff. I can't breath I am SO excited for you! @LeilaK9288 - Sorry you are here, but you find yourself in good company. This group is so intelligent. There are several people in your shoes. Unfortunately, @kiki75 (was it you, kiki?) was right, there really hasn't been much advancement in MFI (male factor infertility). The first step is figuring out the why. Get on the phone, get an appointment with a urologist. (S)He will check for varicocles, check his hormone levels, and decide whether a blockage/retrograde is possible. Once you figure out the "why" then you will be better equipped to move forward with treatment. Sometimes the why will help you reverse the Azoo. Other times, it will just let you skip all the unlikely treatments and go straight to IVF/DS. The important thing to remember in all this, is that you WILL get somewhere. MFI is slow moving. It'll take ages to find out the why, and probably ages to even move to treatment. This isn't a quick-fix issue. Prepare for that now. This is going to be hard. You'll cry a lot, you might fight a lot, but you will become strong. These ladies are the strongest I know. I am stronger than I ever thought I could be. And as much as I HATE our MFI, I also know it's made me who I am now. You'll get through this. Lean on us. Vent to us. Cry to us. We got you. @BusinessWife I can't believe you are so close. This has been in the works for so long, I might cry!!!! @TravelingCouple , @madspunk - Seriously. Let me in to this group. (I may or may not be part of several groups, so if you need help on organizing, letting people in, all that, let me know).

@KristoKekerooni. NOT CD!!!!! lol. What a joke that is, I have my whole stash practically (I mean, I have plenty, but you can always buy <b><i>moar</i></b>), ...and we still don't even know if we have sperm! :#
Knitting? Crochet? My bff makes some amazing baby gifts for her ku friends... :/
Thank you all for the for the welcome kind words. @kiki75 we are super lucky to live in Boston, which has some of the best hospitals and doctors in the country so finding good specialists is not difficult - I actually made an appointment first thing this morning for July 17 because I agree that it is highly unlikely that millions of sperm will magically appear. Although he is adamant that the results are invalid because he missed the cup and only got the last little bit in Thank you @KristoKekerooni for that advice and empathetic response. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that any negative experience is put in our path to challenge us to become better & stronger.
@LeilaK9288 - Girl, all I got is empathy. @BusinessWife and... @AlohaKumu (?) are both actually dealing with this more than me. My H isn't azoo, he's got oligoasthenoteratospermia (say that five times fast), so he has some, they just suck. I would definitely lurk those two user histories, and get close with them. They would be a wealth of knowledge and give you so much more than just kind words. good luck, hang tight.
@BusinessWife - OMG. I ALMOST said CD as a slight(friendly) jab to you but thought better of it.

Guys, I'm bumping again (thank you @shortstack930) I obviously have pages and pages to catch up on here. I took some time off bc I needed it mentally after seeing the newbies just come and go while I just lingered in TWO/TWW. I've been stalking and rooting for everyone because I couldn't just stay away 100%. I intro'd here a few weeks ago and participated just a handful few times in this thread (this place is unfortunately jumping and I couldn't keep up!) but I guess I'm making this home for now if you'll have me.
While taking my break, we did finally get to the bottom of why the hell I'm still not knocked up...
Diagnosis (If you've been): Hubby's numbers are "normal" but on the very very low side of normal. Call that what you will - the Dr didn't give us an official name of what's going on.
Cycle/CD: Cycle is I believe 13 and soon to be 14. CD 20something
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WFAF so I can get this show on the road.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Apparently testing and IUI. I still have to get 2 more tests done: HSG, bc I've tried doing that for 2 cycles now and for one reason or another I couldn't get it done. And another test with a camera up my hoo-ha...I forget the name. If all looks normal on my end, we jump right in and do monitoring, an HCG shot, and IUI.
How are things going? I was bummed at first, obviously. I cried an ugly cry that I have to pay money for what so many people do so easily and for free. And that a doctor is going to knock me up, in a doctor's office. But I'm over it and I've honestly never been more ready for AF to get here so we can get things moving. The RE we saw was great! We sat down and he says ok, what do you want me to do for you (in the least dick-y sounding way possible...in writing it doesn't sound great). My response was "get me pregnant" and it was as if he was waiting for that answer and jumped right in with a game plan and charts/diagrams/drawings, and information and it was just fantastic. He's being aggressive and positive and just wants to get things moving. I was scared I'd go in and he'd say ok we have to do a list of 35 things first and then we can move along. We asked what the chances were for us and he just said that they will get me pregnant. I'd still like a better idea, just so I can go in with a more realistic attitude but still. I'm happy with him and our current plan.
Any questions? I'll probably have some - I'm new to all of this, but as of now I'm not too confused and seem to know exactly what is happening as far as our game plan, but I'm sure I'll have questions. On a serious note though - do any of you ladies use/want OPK's? They told me I won't be using them because they'd do all of my monitoring and I'm very gladly taking that break, I might burn my thermometer while I'm at it. But I have a bunch of wondfo's and clearblue digitals if anyone would feel comfortable having me ship them. I promise I'm legit - I'm a cop wife on the internet.
GTKY: If you had to pick a new screen name, what would it be and why? I think I'd just leave it. Or just incorporate my name somehow.
I'm going to do my best to keep up (shit is about to go down at work next week and I'm not going to have much free time) and get to know each of your stories. I'm rooting for all of you to get the hell out of here and move along. I've done my share of stalking and there are so many of you that I think I'm hoping for almost (ALMOST) more than myself.
@LeilaK9288 -- we were totally in the same boat: -0- sperm found after two tests. It was frustrating, shocking, and scary. After additional testing, we discovered that my husband has a chromosome microdeletion called AZFc. Our only option from this point forward is IVF with ICSI. I know the acronyms can be overwhelming when you first start on these boards, but basically, they are going to take my eggs and his sperm (if they can find any during an extraction), and try to make some beautiful little embryos for us. After the embryos get the PGS (genetic) testing, then we will have a FET (frozen embryo transfer) in September. You are more than welcome to ask any questions. @BusinessWife is also a fantastically knowledgeable member of our community.
I'm going to be moving over to this IF thread from the "benched" thread next month, since that's when we will really get the ball rolling! I seriously hardcore stalk this thread and I have learned soooooo much from these ladies. I am rooting for everyone single one of them to make the majestic unicorn show its mighty rainbow powers!

@LeilaK9288 MH also swore he missed the cup or that he did some weird squat because he was worried he wouldn't get it all in there... I think it is just the initial denial of the dx.
@BusinessWife yeah the chromosomal abnormality on top of a sperm count of 3 was a MFin sucker punch to the gut. The abnormality is a translocation. So all of the genetic info is there, which is why he is "typical" (what man is actually typical...) but it puts us at a much higher risk for unbalanced translocations and specific trisomies. 13 and 14. 14 is not viable and would MC quickly. 13 can result in a live birth but often do not make it beyond a year. Hence the PGD.

@50Wife Welcome. I'm sorry you're here. I cried immediately after my last IUI because as I was laying there half-naked , with a spotlight on my hoo-ha, having a stranger thread a catheter through my cervix and tell me, "Sperm are headed your way!" I just hit a fresh wave of IF grief. I think that my list of people trying to get me pregnant is up to 13 or something. It's a bummer that it's not just a magic moment between me and MH. Then I started crying again as the very nice desk girl was cutting my bracelet off and saying how she loves when people want to keep them. It's a raw time.
But, these things all absolutely beat the alternative of continuing to see BFNs with no explanation and no solution.
Personally, I would keep the OPKs for now. My office has me do OPKs starting on CD 10 just to make sure that I don't go crazy and O on my own before trigger. But, that means that I use approximately two per cycle. So I'm kind of awash in them, too.

Re: IF/Testing Weekly Check In 6/19
Diagnosis (If you've been): Husband just got his SA back and showed zero sperm. Like not even one
Cycle/CD: We have been trying for 9 months.. I am actually ovulating today (CD15), but I guess that's pretty useless given recent diagnosis. Still gonna give it a whirl tonight, though!
Any questions? Has anyone been through this? I guess it's called azoospermia?
GTKY: Something witty and creative.. I got super boring and just used my name!
WTO = waiting to ovulate
TWW = two week wait (aka the time after ovulation)
TTA = trying to avoid
NTNP = not trying, not preventing
Benched = unable to try due to medical restriction

ER#2 ~Jan 2019
I obviously have pages and pages to catch up on here.
Cycle/CD: Cycle is I believe 13 and soon to be 14. CD 20something

6/26/17 repeat SA: 47 sperm 0% morph 13% motility
7/26/17 IVF Consult, repeat SA (4 sperm)
8/21/17 Starting IVF cycle with Donor Sperm backup
9/1/17 ER ICSI PGS: only 2 donor embryos made it to freeze
9/13/17 Started cycle for IUI with donor and clomid
9/27/17 IUI canceled for overstim
October Plan IUI with donor and low dose clomid
But, these things all absolutely beat the alternative of continuing to see BFNs with no explanation and no solution.
Personally, I would keep the OPKs for now. My office has me do OPKs starting on CD 10 just to make sure that I don't go crazy and O on my own before trigger. But, that means that I use approximately two per cycle. So I'm kind of awash in them, too.
