Re: Weekly Chat - June 18

  • Good Morning Ladies!

What are you looking forward to this week?
My summer finally will feel like it is starting! Since I have gotten out for summer break I have had meetings and professional development every week! This is the first week I am actually free!!
    What are you dreading?
    Cleaning :/
Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week?
Last week I did a surface cleaning of the house, this week I need to go a little deeper - organize some things, trash stuff, make a donation run. I'd also like to pressure wash the house at some point but we shall see...
    Random thoughts?
I am in a great mood this morning :) I had a nice date night with DH last night, AF is on way out of town, and I am thinking this pack will be my last pack of birth control before I start temping :) So far we are are still waiting until August but I'd like to have a month to get back into the habit of temping.
GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one?
This is tough for me. I would want one that isn't terribly far away so I would actually be able to enjoy it. My boys would pick the beach - they LOVE the beach. I like the beach too but I think I would like the mountains better :)

  • @glitzandglitter: Hooray for FINALLY getting to enjoy your summer break! Cleaning is such a pain but I always feel so much better afterwards. Once our kitchen is finished I'm going to hire a cleaning service to give the house a good deep clean and I can't wait. I'm so glad you guys had a good date! Your time is almost here and I'm so excited for you!

  • What are you looking forward to this week? I have Mondays off during the summer. Last week was glorious. I expect tomorrow to be the same.

What are you dreading? Nothing really

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? We will probably clean the house today. I'm hoping, praying, practically begging that they finish our kitchen and bathrooms this week. This kitchen/bath remodel has been a complete nightmare. We have been without kitchen and bathroom sink/counters for over 6 weeks and I'm over it.

Random thoughts? It's 8am and I'm already anxious for lunch.

GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one? Probably the beach since it's where we typically vacation. It's not too far, the fresh seafood is amazing, and there's something therepuric about the smell and sound of the ocean.

  • @notthefather - the remodel sounds like a huge pain :( FX that it is finished this week!
  • @glitzandglitter - Yay for finally being on summer break! And you are getting so close to TTC!!
@notthefather - I can't believe your renos are still going on! Hopefully it will be over this week.

What are you looking forward to this week? Date night on Friday. We are going out for dinner and then to see Wonder Woman!!

What are you dreading? I'm not looking forward to work, but I wouldn't say I'm dreading it.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? I have a mountain of laundry to fold, which I will probably do tonight.

Random thoughts? TW * I'm going for bloodwork tomorrow to see where my HCG is at. If it's below 5,000, I will consider that a win!

GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one? Hawaii. We went there on vacation this year and I want to go back so bad!
  • @Chloandcoco - FX your HCG is below 5,000. How long do you have to wait for results? I have never been to Hawaii but it looks so beautiful! Maybe one day... :)
  • @ChloandCoco Good Luck tomorrow

What are you looking forward to this week?  Trader Joe's Chinese food for dinner tonight, washing my kitchen floors (its been a while and I'm sort of a clean freak), and the weekend of course!

What are you dreading?   I made an appointment at a local gym for a free training session with my sister in law for Saturday morning at 8am.  We have to be there at 7:45.  My 17 month old has been sleeping until 7:30 on Saturdays and we wake up when she does.  I'm mad at myself for making a commitment and now having to drag myself out of bed early Saturday...yuck

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? I would like to clean out my clothes/drawers.  I need to get all of my summer stuff out and winter stuff put away as well as do a purge or stuff I hold onto and don't really need or wear.  I have a hard time letting things go sometimes.

Random thoughts?  I just got a stitch fix box on Friday and I'm still riding the new clothes high.  Its such a treat and I've looked forward to my box so much for like 2 months (I do it quarterly).  I feel guilty spending money on it but sometimes you have to treat. yo. self.

GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one? Its cliche but I'm going with Paris.  My husband surprised me with a honeymoon to Paris and Prague (we had a shot gun style living room wedding when I was about 6.5 months pregnant.  We were trying to save up, had no honeymoon plans, and he pulled the trigger and planned it on a whim and we're both so glad he did!).  We fell so in love with Europe we wish we could move there!

  • What are you looking forward to this week? This coming weekend. On Friday I go to Kansas City to meet up with my mother in law and sister in law, we're having a girls weekend away. We're staying at this cute little B&B above a coffee shop. In the 5 years I've been with my husband I haven't gotten to know them really well so I think this will be a fun adventure.

What are you dreading? Also this weekend. My SIL is very very extroverted and I am not. I have a feeling it's going to all be a bit overwhelming for me and I'm not going to get much alone time.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? Not really

    Random thoughts? Not ATM

GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one? That hard I'm think either the gulf coast or somewhere in the mountains of Colorado

  • @glitzandglitter Yay for getting to enjoy your break, as well as a date night! I'm glad you guys are almost there!

@notthefather I can't believe that remodel is still going on. How on earth do the contractors think that's okay? Do you guys have any recourse to get them to hurry the F up?

@ChloandCoco I hope you get good results from your test! FX! We'd love to go to Hawaii someday, but it's way in the future right now. Flights from here are just too expensive.

@KFrob Good luck with the training session! My DH has a hard time letting things go, too. It's actually a pretty major point of contention between us (I'm not exactly a minimalist, but am closer to that than a pack rat, which is what he definitely is). Your honeymoon sounds like it was lovely!

@kindbytealikat I hope you manage to have some alone time on your weekend. I definitely understand needing that and not getting it.

What are you looking forward to this week? DH and I are going to one of the parks tomorrow after my pain appointment. We haven't been to that one in a while, so it should be fun! Beyond that, not much. He's working six days this week, so it's going to be a long week. Still hoping to hear from HR, of course.

What are you dreading? That the pain doctor won't be able to give me any answers as to why I'm still hurting.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? We got most of the cleaning done, but of course, there's laundry to put away. I also want to start working on transferring recipes out of my school notebooks into a file on my computer so I can print them and put them in a binder.

Random thoughts? I haven't been around much the last couple of days. I forget who it was (maybe @glitzandglitter?) that asked about the ultrasound for my back. It was completely negative, which aggravates me, because my doctor felt the lump on my back. So now I'm back to square one as far as figuring out what's wrong and why I'm still in pain, since both my PCP and the pain doctor keep saying that the degeneration and herniation shouldn't be causing this much pain. When I'm inactive, it doesn't hurt. When I'm on my feet or walking around or even just doing the dishes for ten minutes, it hurts like crazy. If it's going to be like this for the rest of my life, then I need to talk to the pain doctor about some sort of accommodation at work so that I can periodically sit down. On another note, we're also waiting for DH to get a referral to see a cardiologist. He has a heart condition and hasn't been assessed for it in over a decade, so I wanted him to get it looked at. His PCP agrees, especially since we told him that he sometimes passes out after exertion (like sex >.<).

GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one? I really don't know. Maybe Colorado. DH loves being there, but I've never been.

  • @KFrob - I'm going through a organize/get rid of stuff phase too. I have a hard time letting go of sentimental things, but it feels so good once it's done. It's like the house can breathe again or something.
@kindbytealikat - Have fun this weekend! Sometimes it's good to get pulled out of your comfort zone.
@dreamscapes_ - It's good your DH is getting his heart looked at, passing out from exertion is not good. I hope you hear back from HR this week!
  • @ChloandCoco I absolutely agree about it feeling like the house can breathe again when some of the clutter is gone. We had this big honking tube TV sitting on our living room floor for the last two years, and I finally convinced DH to just get rid of it. The living room feels so much more open now somehow. But yeah, as far as DH's heart, the passing out scares me sometimes. I'm used to it and know that it happens, but it still worries me.

@ChloandCoco You're so right!  I do love it when I make some real progress!  But, I have these totally conflicting feelings.  I get so aggravated with too much "stuff".  I look in my drawers and think "I don't even know what I have in here because there's just so much!"  But then I start to clean them out and don't make as much progress as I hoped cause I do the what if game.  "What if for some reason I'm going to need this specific black tshirt that I haven't worn in 3 years?!" lol Sigh....  I've been fantasizing about trying the Marie Kondo way of folding and organizing clothes.  Soon I'm going to take some vacation time and clean stuff out and it's going to be magical!
  • I don't know how you exclusive mobile bumpers keep up! Too much scrolling and forgetting. I'll be back on a PC tomorrow and will try to get caught up.

@dreamscapes_: This is the last known issue from the tornado damage so I'm hoping to be done with him as soon as this is complete. There's been all sorts of problems with the cabinet maker, which has been our biggest problem. They just don't get paid until the work is done. This contractor is recommended by our insurance agency so we get an extended warranty on all work done. God forbid, but if we have to file any more large claims or re-open the current one I will tell them to pound sand with this dude. Thanks but no thanks.

  • @notthefather Yeah, I can't do mobile for anything other than reading and love-titting, unless it's a quick little thing. If you can, I'd definitely leave an honest review of their work on Yelp or Google. That's absolutely ridiculous that this is taking forever, and I absolutely agree that if you need more work done, they can recommend someone else.

@dreamscapes_ - Forgive me, I'm not up to date on everyone's stories, but: have you had an MRI done? MH has a bone spur on his collar bone, which caused him pain for weeks. He had a negative X-Ray, and a negative ultrasound, and they finally found it on the MRI. If not, I'd definitely ask about it.
FX they're able to figure out what's going on, though. Backs are the worst places to have any injury. *hugs*

What are you looking forward to this week?
Nothing, haha. Really, not a thing.

    What are you dreading?
Microbiology exam on Wednesday, and it's raining all week.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week?
I'm starting protein shakes, so I'd like to see a little progress with my weight!

    Random thoughts?

GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one?
Absecon, NJ. I love the beach, and the fishing. It's my favourite vacation spot, and it's so close to home.

  • @izza2 - I seems like it will be rainy all week here too :/ Good luck on your exam!
  • @izza2 Not a problem! I forget sometimes that we get people on the board who haven't heard all this already! :D I have had an MRI done, back in January. I've been dealing with this lower back pain since mid-October and finally got a diagnosis after the MRI. I have degenerative disc disease affecting my L5-S1 disc, as well as some central herniation in the disc. I've been through physical therapy, several sorts of medications trying to find the right cocktail, and have been seeing a pain management specialist for a few months. Because of the chronic pain, I've been given permanent restrictions at my job and am considered to have a disability, so while my employer (I work at Disney World) finds me a new position, I'm on an unpaid medical leave. I was a pastry cook, and I can't do the heavy lifting anymore, since my doctor gave me lifting restrictions to try and prevent further damage to my disc. I've been out of work since mid-February. So I know basically what's going on, but my doctors have both stated that the damage shouldn't be causing this pain still. The pain doctor said that it should be able to be treated and go away, but my PCP said that it's possible I'll have this pain for the rest of my life. At any rate, my husband and I found a lump on my back hip area about a month ago in the same general area as the pain, so we had that checked out. That's what was negative this time around. So it's really just been a long, drawn out process of trying to get the pain under control. I see the pain guy tomorrow, so hopefully he'll have another treatment option besides another steroid shot.

Good luck with your microbiology exam! It's been raining here for almost the last two weeks, but that's Florida for you.

@dreamscapes_ - Ahh. Okay. My father has degenerative disc disease, also at L5-S1. His pain is chronic, but controlled with pain meds and PT. But, it would be a chronic problem, as it's a chronic disease. The pain can be managed, but won't go away after a course of pain meds. It can get better after a few years, but not after just a few months, unfortunately.
My brother also has degenerative disc disease and had part of his spine fused. It helped quite a bit, but he still has pain with over exertion.

I hope that they find answers for you, though!

  • Hi ladies!  Hope you're all well!

@glitzandglitter - Yay for summer break!  Deep cleaning the house sounds amazing to me right now.  We are desperately overdue for a deep clean of our apartment.  Something so therapeutic about organizing and cleaning!  (Or maybe that's the OCD in me speaking, haha.)

@notthefather - Mondays off in the summer sounds AMAZING.  I have long thought that 4 day work weeks and 3 day weekends would make people happier and more productive. I can dream anyway...

@ChloandCoco - Fingers crossed re: the bloodwork.  Hope everything is good.  Also, Wonder Woman date night sounds awesome!  I can't wait to see it!  I need to get on booking a babysitter so my husband and I can actually see it before it's gone from the theaters.  (We haven't seen a movie since my DD was born and she's 16 months old now!!)

@KFrob  - I am way overdue for a closet cleaning too, and I also have a hard time letting go!  It doesn't help that I still am hanging on to 10 pounds of pregnancy weight, plus I was 15 pounds over my happy weight when I got pregnant anyway, so I have clothes in so many different sizes, I don't know where I'll end up, so I'm just kind of...hoarding everything?  You'd think I could at least let go of the Forever 21 dresses from ten years ago, but not so far!

@kindbytealikat - Have fun on your trip!  Hope you manage to get some alone time!

@dreamscapes_ - Ugh, so sorry you're dealing with so much pain still.  I know a little bit about doctors not being able to figure out what's wrong - I have an autoimmune disease that took some time to figure out - and it's SO frustrating.  Hope you get some answers soon (and hear back from HR!)

@CecilB93 - Good luck with your new job!

What are you looking forward to this week?  What are you dreading?
I combined these two because I'm half looking forward to, half dreading my mom's visit this weekend.  It should be fine, but she's a recovering alcoholic and had a relapse not long ago.  She claims to be fully sober and she's only staying in town for one night (at a hotel) but I am still slightly nervous.  Fingers crossed.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week?
I have been SO BAD at accomplishing my goals lately.  I took a break after finishing my last writing project and I have had a hard time getting out of break mode!  So, since we're pushing back TTC until early December, I made a new pre TTC goals list to refocus me and I think that helped.  I have my next project nearly outlined and should be able to finish the outline or start actually writing it tomorrow.  And I am getting back on the diet wagon after basically a whole freaking month off.  Ugh.  So ready to have these last 10 pounds gone!  Anyway, enough beating myself up, just excited to refocus and get out of break mode and onto ticking off these goals.  :)

    Random thoughts?
I wish it wasn't so dang hot!  I've been taking lunch time walks to get some exercise in and I return looking like I just left a sauna.  I mean, it basically IS a sauna outside right now.

GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one?
If I could travel instantly around the world?  Probably Edinburgh, Scotland, where my husband and I got married.  It's such a romantic place and Christmases there would be magical.  But (kind of) practically speaking?  Probably Big Bear or Lake Tahoe or Hawaii.  Much closer to where we live and also lovely.
  • @izza2 good luck on your exam!!

@notthefather re: mobile bumping...hence why I'm so bad about tagging people and truly interacting in conversations...it's easier when a conversation is just flowing rather than answering a ton of questions and then trying to remember everyone's answers and what you were going to respond to. This is also why I never copy and past the questions and just kind of type my answers, haha.

@kindbytealikat I enjoy St Louis, too! Haven't been in a couple years, plan to try and make it out there this year because DH has never been!! I can't wait to take DS to the City Museum though! And I've never been to the zoo but have heard it's really good. Sorry but I probably won't be seeing a Cards game unless the Royals are there, too  :D

  • @glitzandglitter yay for stopping BC! I did that in April (coincidentally, my last pill was on MH's birthday) and it was SUCH a big thing for me, it made everything about TTC feel more real!

@notthefather so I'm totally gonna crash at your beach house and eat all the seafood. Ok? Ok! Also: I'm often mobile, and I agree that it's tough to tag and read. I usually try to get in on daily threads early, but if I don't then all is lost until I can catch up on my work computer!

@CloandCoco yay date night! I have my FX for good results for you.

@Kfrob I love Trader Joe's! What did you have? Their orange chicken is delicious!

@kindbytealikat That sounds like such a fun weekend trip! I'm jealous that you get to hang out with them in a spot that sounds SO cute and fun! I hope that you have a good bonding time. Also, I TOTALLY considered myself introverted...until I met MH. He's probably the only person who makes me look like an extrovert in comparison, lmao. So sometimes getting a little pull/push to get out of your comfort zone is a good thing like @Chloandcoco said!

@dreamscapes_ I'm so sad that you have to deal with all this pain. :( What are you using to transfer the recipes? Or are you just typing them into like Word document or something? I have a bunch of random recipe articles that are just in a folder and it's kind of messy (and I always forget to look through them when I'm looking for a new recipe to try).

@Cecil893 oh yay congrats on the new position! What is your new role (if you don't mind sharing)?

@izza2 Where are you in the world? I often forget that not everyone is local to me so when I hear about weather that's very different (rain?! NOW?!) it kinda blows my mind.

What are you looking forward to this week? Hearing about (yet another) interview that I had hopefully this week!

What are you dreading? Also hearing about that job, because I will be sad to hear that I didn't get it (which seems to be my track record lately...).

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? Nothing specific!

    Random thoughts?

GTKY: If you could buy a vacation home anywhere - where would you buy one? DH and I often talk/joke/muse about buying a house in Napa (specifically the Yountville area). We go up at least once a year for vacation and it would be lovely to have our own home base.

@JennyColada  That's what we had!!  And veggie fried rice.  It's soooo good.  We have a serious Trader Joe's addiction!
  • @JennyColada - being on my last pack makes it feel like it is really happening! I have been waiting over a year for this :) So I am super excited!! Hope you get good news about your interview!
  • WHY ARE PEOPLE SO IRRESPONSIBLE?!

So I work at a bank, and this kid (I mean, I say "kid" but he's probably in his early 20s) comes in, says he lost his wallet and in it were his debit card, credit card, and ID. I tell him we need a valid ID to print a card in branch and he's like "but I know my social". Um, ok. No, "knowing your social" isn't a valid ID. He has no passport. So he accepts that he'll have to have a card mailed to him. So I ask him to type in his SSN so that I can pull up his account. No dice, wrong number. He tries again. Nothing, wrong number. AGAIN. Nope. He tries like a dozen times and finally says "I guess I can't remember it." So he leaves. Now he's back again and my manager ended up helping him and she's asking him all these questions to try to verify his identity and he can't remember ANY of it. "What's your mother's maiden name?" "her what?" "her name before she got married if she's married."

Like dude, YOU came in HERE. What did you expect us to do?! Just magically know you and give you a card and shake your hand?!

  • @JennyColada - That's so frustrating!
  • Ugh @JennyColada. Similar situations happen to me at work all the time and I'm all:

  • @notthefather omg yes I make that face constantly. Or my other favorite is when someone comes up, throws a check at me and says "deposit" AND THAT IS LITERALLY THE END OF THE CONVERSATION. I'm just staring at them like "um. ok. do you have your account number or your card?" Them: "What card?" Me: "Uh...like your debit card or a credit card?" Them: "No." THEN SILENCE.

    Help me help you people!

One glass of wine is fine tonight right? :P

We definitely share a lot of "I'm not crazy right? That was dumb, right? You think so too?" conversations with co-workers just as a sanity check that we haven't fallen into a parallel universe in which these things are normal.
  • @izza2 That's pretty much what my PCP said, to be honest. I'm not expecting it to go away entirely. I'd just really like to be able to walk around for an hour without my lower back feeling like it's going to die, you know?

@maureenmce I hae a few friends with illnesses that took a while to get diagnosed, so I'm not that surprised that this is taking a while. I did hear back from HR just now! :D I hope your mom's visit goes smoothly! That sort of dynamic is definitely hard to deal with. Where do you live again, if you don't mind me asking? Just curious because of the temps by you :) Scotland at Christmas would be absolutely beautiful!

@CecilB93 I totally get the whole just typing thing! I usually have Notepad open and type out my responses in that while I'm scrolling through the thread, lmao. Congrats on the new position!

@JennyColada I'm just going to type everything up in Word and print them out. There are some things that I don't have to worry about (pages from magazines, recipe cards from the grocery store, etc). I have a lot of page protectors and dividers, so I'm going to get my binder completely organized by appetizer, side dish, entree, dessert, things like that. Have you heard about the job yet?

@glitzandglitter I totally feel you on being excited about being on the last pack! :D

As far as stupid customers, I really truly feel like some people just leave their brains at home for safekeeping. I can't even tell you the number of dumb questions I get. The worst was this guy when I was in the courtyard right behind Cinderella Castle. Maybe 75 feet away from it. He asked me where the castle was.

  • @dreamscapes_ no word on the job yet. But this is usual for them to take forever!

In that guy's defense though, I'm sure Cinderella's Castle is pretty small right? I mean, the one in Disneyland in CA is probably only like 500 feet tall...so I could see how it would be easy to miss. XD
