  • @britmanering73 I have the boppy. It works pretty well, the only complaint I have is that it flattens pretty quickly. It was really cheap at Target last fall and I took advantage!

  • @britmanering73 I had the bump nest because Jaime King had it and I clearly think I'm a celebrity haha. I will say, I got it pretty early on in my pregnancy and found that it was super smooshed at the end of my pregnancy, when I probably needed it more.

  • @britmanering73  and @missblaze I was told I could sleep on my back until my body told me I couldn't and that I'd know when that time came. And boy did I, shortness of breath and the belly took over. Sleeping on my sides is not an easy things for me. Now, I mostly sleep on my left side because of that. But they say that it's supposed to help promote blood flow through the body or something.

  • @britmanering73 I got it on Amazon
  • @supercoolstephy Yes, the not laying on the back thing isn't a huge deal until belly grows some more (typically around 18-20 weeks).

  • @britmanering73 another vote for the snoogle! I had to train myself to sleep on my left too, it sounds harder than it is'

I have a question and it's not about the snoogle - although I am now convinced I need one
I am a FTM, and we are planning to tell our family when I am 12 weeks( I am currently 10 + 5) everyone will be together for Canada Day so we figured it was a good time.we had our initial midwife appointment at 7 weeks and then we saw the baby on an ultra sound at 8 weeks and the tech said everything looked good and the heartbeat is strong. But we won't be seeing our midwife again until 14 weeks... Do you think it is safe to tell people, I realize there is always a risk, but would you go ahead and share the news?
  • @lilpod I agree with @thedawkterswife. We told our immediate family a week after my BFP, mostly because I wanted help with DD if I needed it and wouldn't have to make excuses for why I needed someone to watch her. We plan to announce publicly probably June 30th after the dating scan when I'll be 12 weeks.
  • Thank you ladies for the input!! I definitely will be purchasing one this weekend :)

@lilpod I'm 10+5 and I told my family on Saturday. We didn't plan on it until after the ultrasound but I couldn't hold it in any longer. It's your preference. Whatever you feel is most safe and comfortable for you. You're not obligated but to me, no matter what happens, I still wanted our families to know.

  • @thedawkterswife You are spot on sister! If something happens, you still need your family no matter what. Atleast they can experience the joy for a little while. That's what happened in December with us. We told our families at 7 weeks because it was my first BFP ever and I jumped the gun. I wanted to wait to see if my belly grew this time but I couldn't hold it in any longer. I wanted those I loved to know, period. If something happened then so be it. We aren't promised tomorrow either.

@lilpod Goodluck with whatever decision you make! :)

  • So the bump nest is out of business and old navy is ending their maternity line - is it me or is the world turning against preggo ladies of 2017?
  • What, @koennia1217?!? I'm pretty sure all of my maternity clothes are from Old Navy. When is this supposed to happen?
Also, @lilpod. I agree with PP's. I told my family at 8 weeks. I knew I would want my mom/sisters to know if something happened, and so we told our family members pretty early on. *TW, I had a loss with my first pregnancy at about 9 weeks. I had told my family we were pregnant the week before, and they were ESSENTIAL through the grieving process. I needed them around me.
  • @cyanope -yea, I went to my old navy and they had already removed the maternity from their store. I then called all of the old navy stores in all of Dallas/ Fort Worth and only 3 stores said they still had Maternity and a few of the reps told me that it will only be available online soon or maybe the outlets. They said the plan was to phase it out. I was really depending on them as there are very few maternity stores for some reason. Sad face.
  • @lilpod, I also choose to tell sooner rather than later. But we also only tell those we'd tell anyone in the event of a loss.

And I'll tell you, those people knowing when we had the loss in January was integral. My family needed the meals that kept streaming in when I couldn't be bothered to get off of the couch.

  • Has anyone purchased a baby book?
I was just thinking about it because today my DD found my son's. He's now 4 and there is so much left empty so this afternoon I'm sitting down filling it in more! Ugh, why do I wait?!
Anywho.... I never loved my son's and would like to find one I really liked this time.
  • I don't think I ever finished filling in DD1's and I'm pretty sure I never even started DD2's.

  • @GraceUponGrace09 I was looking back at the one I kept with DD so it inspired me to order one off Amazon. I think it's fun to look back!
  • @mommaa1615 YES! So fun to look back. I think every child deserves one even though it's so stickin hard to get them done!
  • @GraceUponGrace09 I'm a nerd who loves filling crap like that out! I had so much fun doing my wedding book and DD's baby book. Mine was a gift from one of my showers but I'll probably look on Amazon for this babe. Who knows if I'll actually fill it out though.
  • Argh I'm so bad at baby books. It's because I have horrid handwriting so I don't like to write by hand. I have stuck their little memorabilia in there and taped some pics in there. To make up for the lack of baby books I've made both of my kids little year in review picture books that I created on Shutterfly. Pictures are worth a thousand words right?? Plus I do it to preserve pics. I know most people aren't in the habit of printing pics as much these days so I make it a point to get tangible copies of the fav pics. Just in case something happens to our digital copies.
  • Ugh been doing a 24 hour urine catch and been gagging all day looking at the jug,  pregnancy is lovely sometimes....

@koennia1217 @cyanope Yes! I agree, it seems like the retail industry is giving us the cold shoulder. I tried finding maternity clothes a couple weeks ago. Went to a bunch of different stores: Kohl's, Sears, Old Navy, etc. Each place either had "phased out" their maternity clothes, or they had never carried them to begin with. The only clothes I found were at Motherhood or Target. I don't like having to buy online because I'm really hard to fit and prefer to try stuff on before I buy. So frustrating!

On a separate note, I had an ultrasound this morning. Baby looks great with a strong heartbeat, measuring 2 days ahead at 10w1d (yay!). The tech told me I have a small bleed, though. It looks like it pooled at the bottom of my uterus and the developing placenta is covering it. Which, when she told me the placenta was covering my cervix, I silently freaked out a bit. I asked about placenta previa, and she said it's nothing to worry about right now; that 98% of placentas will move and settle elsewhere in the uterus before they're fully formed. Has anyone else experienced this? Did your placenta eventually move?

  • @Peepster Your Kohl's didn't have maternity??? Every Kohl's around here has a section right over near the baby clothes.

  • That all makes sense now! I went to Old Navy looking for some maternity stuff (especially fall and winter clearance!) and was so disappointed that I couldn't find any. I also prefer to buy in-store...even though I really prefer the styles online to most of what is in the stores.
  • I had quite the fun last 24 hours. Got a call from my lab yesterday at 4:30pm (when they close, so I couldn't call back) and was told I needed to come in for a redraw for my Counsyl NIPT work. No other info. So I start looking up reasons for needing a redraw and went down a rabbit hole all night. Called DH and he didn't answer (downsides of work travel every week) and I did not handle my anxiety extremely well - haha. Anyway, I finally get a call back from the lab today and I guess there was a courier issue due to unseasonably hot weather last week. Should get my MaternIT or whatever it's called results today at 12:45 (my OB ran this just for the top there trisomies), and redraw for Counsyl. Praying for healthy results since I'm AMA. This has really put into perspective 1) any wishes I had for baby's sex - I could not care ANY LESS now, 2) the downsides of NIPT - still feel like they are outweighed by the positive, but after doing my own thorough peer-reviewed articles evaluations, I see the issues with false positives and more.

Very hopeful all of you have seamless NIPT experiences if you are going that direction.

@missblaze I'll have to check the one closer to me, but I could swear the store about a half hour away didn't have a maternity section. I even checked over by the baby clothes because I knew that's where I had seen it at other Kohl's. To be fair, I didn't actually ask an employee if they had one. I was just so frustrated at that point after having been to so many stores, that I was done. Lol.

@libbberty How frustrating! I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Eep! Now I'm all nervous about my results! They just drew my blood for the NIPT this morning. I'm afraid of doing too much research and heading down a rabbit hole, too.

  • @Peepster thanks for the support! I encourage you not to make the same mistake I did- avoid the rabbit hole if you can. Completely unnecessary stress! Fingers crossed for healthy results for you and a short wait :)
  • I'm 12 weeks and 2 days. I woke up to mild cramping and some spotting. So scared.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • @libbberty I probably won't do the NIPT test even though I was considering additional testing for this third pregnancy. I haven't done that test for my other children. My motivation this time is I had a major unnecessary scare for my second baby at the 20 week anatomy scan. The tech flagged my baby for two markers for risk of a trisomy, possible Down syndrome or another kind. Instead of being excited to find out I was having a girl all I could do was cry and worry about her. She turned out to be a very typical healthy baby, thank God! Whenever I reflect on that experience I just want to avoid it all together but I'm not sure of the best way to go about that.

@KLake42 hang in there! Hopefully it subsides and you get relief soon. I had spotting with both of my other pregnancies for no apparent reason.
  • @KLake42 sending you positive energy and well wishes! I hope everything is okay. Thinking about you.

@trudytudy I read so many stories like that in my rabbit hole. I'm glad your daughter was born healthy. The anxiety is no joke.
  • @KLake42 hugs! Fx everything is ok. Are you going in to get checked out?
  • @KLake42, hoping things are okay. Hugs to you.
  • @KLake42 I'm sorry you're going through this. Thoughts and prayers with you.
  • @KLake42 Ugh, no fun! Hoping it's nothing. Hugs!! Keep us posted!
  • @KLake42 Thinking of you! Hope you get it checked out and that everything turns out fine!

@fivetimesnoluck I was curious about the same thing - I'm not entirely sure of the correct answer but I am getting it done by my MFM on Tuesday. I'm automatically high risk because I'm carrying twins. I saw my OB just over 10wks and she gave me the paperwork for the scan. She said it was completely up to me if I wanted to have it done but I was going to the MFM around 12 anyway... so I opted to do it.
