Has anyone had to deal with taking out a belly button ring? I've had one for over 15 years...
  • Options
@caeilievalor I've also had mine for awhile - 11 years. I've never had to take mine out, and have also been wondering about how STM + have dealt with it. I'd like to keep the hole open throughout the pregnancy, but if it closes I won't be reopening it.

I have been wondering this as well. So far I do have it in, but wondering how long that will last

Has anyone gone floating while pregnant? (in a float tank, not like on a river lol)

Ugh ladies, it's hotter than Hades where I live and they don't believe in air conditioning. The heat is making me even more nauseous than I already am. It's downright miserable. Just a rant.

Anyone else trying to keep away from diet pop while pregnant? I'd been trying to slow down anyway prior to getting knocked up -- not out of any health concerns, just because I needed to be getting more water. I did some reading after finding out we were pregnant, and it looks like it's generally considered safe up to a point, but I'm pretty sure that I was consuming over that amount. So, other than a can of pop at lunch, it's been all water.

Like, I don't want to be convinced one way or the other -- I know artificial sweeteners are a divisive topic. I just want to know if anyone else is struggling with me on this one, lol.

Anyway, I'm drinking a Diet Dr. Pepper right now because I desperately wanted one and IDGAF.  Also I had a beer-boiled grilled brat last night... and then a leftover one with lunch. Clearly I'm playing fast and loose here. ;)

@Cricket99 Ugh, I'm always bewildered about places that don't have AC. (Though the eco-conscious person in me appreciates the dedication.)

We're firmly in hot season here in Kansas, and the household finally had to drop the A/C down to 75 in the house. We tried to hold out at 77 as long as we could, but even with the fans on, it was just miserable.

@scatteringashes I gave up Diet Coke during my first pregnancy last year, and luckily never really picked it back up. I did it for the same reason as you - I was basically drinking it in place of water and that didn't seem healthy when I was drinking 3 or 4 a day! I will definitely still have a soda from time to time but now it's rare.

I do still drink flavored sparkling water from time to time. Another good replacement is to put a flavoring agent in still water - I like Nuun because it makes the water a bit fizzy and we have some in the house for my husband anyway, but there are a bunch of different options (crystal light, mio, etc). I also got like a big water bottle and I fill it with water/ice in the morning and sip it all day which helps with MS and with soda cravings.

@scatteringashes I'm a long time diet coke drinker,  for most of my life actually,  but I gave it up about 6 months ago because (like you) I wanted to drink more water and less diuretics (soda, coffee, tea, etc). I also stopped using all sugar substitutes in all my foods because it was making my IBS worse. I know they recommend women with gestational diabetes to use sugar substitutes instead of sugar,  and since that's what's in diet soda I don't see much difference there, it must be fine. I'd rather drink a soda with real sugar and natural flavorings in it even if it has all the calories rather than regular soda like Coke or diet soda with sugar substitutes,  but that's just my opinion. I'm sure in moderation they're all okay. No worries

Haven't looked this up, so I'll ask y'all: Is the NT scan done for most everyone or do you have to request it? I have my first appt with OB at 11w after graduating from my RE and know it should be done at a certain timeframe, 11-14, I believe. I also have an appt at 12w with the MFM, so maybe they'll be doing it?

I have a belly button ring. Pregnant with my second. With my first pregnancy I bought one of those flexible rings but it was so long and I found it weird I just took it out. Figured if the hole closed it closed. It had been pierced for 10 years. A few months after having my daughter I went to see if my ring would go back in and it did. Didn't close up.
  • Options
My sister took her belly ring out at about 7.5 months because it hurt but it went right back in after both her pregnancies just fine for her .

I am 9w4d with my second ( DD turned 1 today ) and I think I may be feeling my uterus ... is this possible already or is it just other stuff moving around?? It took forever with my first

Does anyone else need to snack in the middle of the night? I woke up hungry at probably 3 or 4am yesterday and this morning and just went back to sleep after a small drink of water and I felt terrible a few hours later when I woke up. I dragged for hours and felt nauseous. This has happened a couple of times and I'm just putting it together. I think maybe I need to plan on a protein-heavy snack right before bed or keep something like string cheese on hand for if I wake up hungry in the middle of the night like that.

@ecolton01 I'm 10w6d with my first and I have been able to feel at least a difference in my lower abdomen for roughly 2 weeks now.
  • Options
@ryannenikole I've been waking up super hungry too and then I can't fall back asleep for what feels like forever! A high protein snack before bed is a good idea!

@GraceUponGrace09 I'm glad I'm not the only one! Need to figure out some ideas.

@EmilyLove25 I'm not new to the Internet, lol. Unsolicited advice is our game, but I also know it's usually meant well, so I figure best just to head it off at the pass. :)

@scatteringashes I don't usually drink soda but I've been getting cravings for it recently, AND I'm about to be diagnosed with GD  :/ so I purchased a diet Dr Pepper and it was gross to me  :( like I'd rather drink a drop of the real thing than a bottle of this crap. I've been adding lemon to my water but I'm still craving something bubbly and sugary.

Does anyone know what the deal is about drinking chamomile tea? I just noticed my coffee shop has citrus chamomile tea, and that sounded so delicious this morning.  Google has conflicting answers, and I won't be seeing my doctor for another 3 weeks.
  • Options
    @agalvarado Oh no, that sucks!

I go the other way -- I dont care for the syrupy sweetness of regular pop, and really like the sort of dry(?) taste of diet. I'm pretty sure that's all conditioning at this stage in life, though; I remember forcing myself to drink it when I was 14ish because it was the "right" choice. (Which is some diet culture bullshit, but can't change the past, so. /shrug)

Just have to say Diet Dr. Pepper is a gift from the gods.  I used to hate all diet soda, but there must be crack (or insert something else highly addictive) in it because I don't even care about the fake sugar flavor anymore!!  Of course it has caffeine so I have been trying to not indulge as much as I would like.  Plus at this point soda equals heartburn so no go there either.  So sad!!  :'(
  • Options
@fishee333 I think it's the chamomile... I've seen it not advised during pregnancy as it can cause miscarriage. Maybe you just crave the citrus part of the tea? I love all things citrus when I pregnant :)

Question for you, I think I have a sinus infection or something. My safe list from the doctor says sudafed is okay. I was under the impression that it was not safe until 2nd trimester. I'm going to call the doctor but they aren't open yet and I'm sending DH out for something.

I also read it wasn't  safe until the 2nd trimester. My doctor gave me amoxicillin when I was 6w for my infection and it cleared it right up.

@PhillymommaX2. Okay, thank you! I didn't think I was remembering that incorrectly. I may need to head to my doctor bc I can't miss another day of work after today!

@scatteringashes I know what you mean about the "dry" taste! There's such a difference between diet/regular sodas! Back in the day I was a Diet Coke fiend, I'd go to QuikTrip and get a huge one every day. Regular sodas were too sweet, and way too many calories. Then I stopped all together with soda (can't remember why), like a year later tried a Diet Coke and it was terrible! I still only drink soda a few times a year but now I go for the regular ones. It's crazy how we train ourselves to prefer certain things, I think the same thing would happen with energy drinks now. I had one for breakfast daily from college until 3 yrs ago, I'm pretty sure it doesn't taste as good as I remember!

@Dani0329 Hmm I went to the pharmacy with a cold very VERY early in this pregnancy and the pharmacist told me it was okay, as did my doctor. Luckily I only took it once or twice... hmm...

The doctor just called back (they were sassy). They said really they don't want you to take anything in 1st trimester but if you need to take it, it's safe. She sounded annoyed I'd question the list.

@Dani0329 Ok, good. And I love when the receptionist and nurses or even doctors are sassy... "Oh yeah, silly me for being overly concerned about the human I'm going to bring into the world! What a dumb one I am!!"

@katieel and any STMs....what pregnancy pillow do you recommend? I can't sleep on my left hand side without being uncomfortable. My right is starting to hurt and I always fall to my back and I wake up with lower back pain. Suggestions? I noticed one in particular, the Leacho? Thoughts....

    Thanks ladies :)

@britmanering73 I also have the snoogle. Takes up half the bed but it's amazing.
  • Options
I had the snoogle. It was nice. It did hog up the bed and the tricky part is that it's hard to turn over in it. But it's hard to turn over when you're giant pregnant anyway.

@cricket99 That's great! I was looking at some last night and the one that takes up the whole entire my side of the bed and a little of his, my husband was SALTY. "Ugh, where am I going to sleep??" Far from me HAHAHAH. Thank you for the recommendation! Do you remember where you purchased your Fortress of Solitude?

@missblaze I just cannot sleep on my left side. Never have. And I read somewhere where it's "healthier" to sleep on the left side than the right. Not just for the baby but for the momma too. Any truth? I'm getting 50/50 reviews on that topic. I just know that I'm uncomfortable...(and so early geesh!) I can just picture myself at 8 months!

@britmanering73 I really had to learn to sleep on my left side. They say "left is best" but sleeping on your right side would be better than back. When you sleep on your left side, it helps with circulation :)

ETA: It's MUCH easier to sleep on the left side with a snoogle. It holds you in that position.
