Re: Weekly Randoms 6/12

  • Maybe a good idea not to try breatharianism when you are pregnant and have a baby dependent on you for nutrients?  Just a thought. I wouldn't be surprised if they got investigated by CPS. And their "doctor" too.

    @BayCamp yes!!! Love that song!

also, about flying. I fly all the time with my son alone, because we fly back to visit my family when my husband has business trips. We have probably flown together (the 2 or us) at least 15 times in two years.

    Here are my suggestions:
    - try not to fly during nap time unless the baby is super young or great at sleeping anywhere

    - I use a Britax stroller that I bought on a fb sale site for 50 bucks and it still perfect for the airport. Sturdy and easy to push, the umbrella is strong enough to hold the cosco scenera carsear or luggage, and I don't care if it gets damaged. Don't bring a stroller you care a lot about.

    - is there a way you can just check your bag? It seems like it would be a huge pain to have a carry on. You'd have to somehow have your kid walk in front of you without going into all the random seats, hold the car seat, and hold the carry on.

-why carry if you have the stroller? Just strap the little one in, place the cosco scenera on he too of the umbrella part of your stroller and you're good to go! Gate check the stroller for free st the gate, hold your toddlers hand with one hand and the carsear (which is cheap and extremely light) won the other.

    - the last flight we did (last week) wS one of our best because we could have him in a carsear. He knows he can't get out because he's used to beif in a cardeat so it made it a ton easier on us.

    - entertainment on flight: mini container of playdough, dollar store toys, post its, painters tape, and novelty snacks that they are normally not allowed to have. We brought m and ms and fruit snacks and he was great the whole time.
  • I am open to a Facebook group too, as I find it easier to navigate. Wouldn't we have to have a correlation between our bump sn and our Facebook name? How else do we know who each other are? Or am I missing something obvious? Lol also, I use the bump on my phone and I don't know how to find my "pm" area...? I swear I am more computer literate than this post portrays!
In my Jan '11 group we started out with a doc on fb correlating bump names to real names. The kids are 6.5 now and few of us still even remember bump names.

  • @ooodalollly that's phenomenal. And I totally agree with her.

  • @ooodalollly thanks for sharing.  I get So overwhelmed thinking about all the different choices you make as a parent and just want to do the right thing.  A nice reminder that I am putting too much pressure on myself.
  • Guys DH seems depressed.  He's over worked, over tired, and just stretched thin I think.
I don't know what to do. He's lost his sense of humor and the only time I've seen him smile recently is when I told him our baby was a boy. I feel like I've tried everything to make him feel better. I've left him alone. I've chatted about his feelings. I cleaned the entire house while he was at work (even emptied out the fridge and wiped everything) I've made his fave meals. I've had his closest friends over for BBQ. I've made opportunities for his sons to spend extra time with him. I've had the kids go away so we can have alone time. I've had his family over. I've given him time in the house by himself. We've gone to his favourite places for dinner.  Sex. So much sex guys.  I don't know what else to do and I'm starting to feel like I'm failing because I just can't make him happy. Any suggestions?
  • I found this fairly intriguing thought I would share

  • @bcashaw I don't have much advice. All I can say is that battling depression is really difficult and it's usually not about someone making you happy, it's usually about what's going on inside. Has he said anything in particular that's bothering him, besides being overworked? Is this something that has been building or did it come on all of a sudden? Would he talk to a therapist? DH gets that way sometimes, he works 80-100 hours a week. But usually a few really good days in a row, with limited work, help him refresh. If you need to talk more about it, we're definitely here!
  • @cmessamore his daughter randomly decided that she hates us and wants nothing to do with us this past Tuesday so I think he is just missing her. I am too
We are both pretty devastated about this (very surprising) turn of events.  We went out for dinner just the two if us tonight and he seems to be feeling better.
  • @bcashaw I'd probably sit my DH down and be straight forward about it. A "I noticed you've been depressed lately, is there anything I can do to help?" sort of thing. My DH tends to be very open when he realized that his depression is noticeable. Even just a quick "are you ok?" tends to open the door for him to get whatever is bothering him out. Sometimes (most of the time) it isn't about making your partner "happy", but just letting them know that you are there for them and will support them, regardless of whatever storm is whirling around. Even if he doesn't want to talk, just knowing you are there for him might be enough.

  • @jess0211 that sounds smart! And my cat will smell like baby so that's an added bonus haha

  • Question: is it insane to plan a vacation for January?
We didn't manage to get to Greece this summer and we definitely want to do something/go somewhere we were thinking low key like Cuba for a week, but will I just be going crazy for 10 days in a foreign country with a 2 month old?
  • @bcashaw we're hoping to go to England in January with the baby so s/he can meet his or her English side of the family. We're not buying tickets until after we meet baby and learn temperament though.

I think you're fine. We took my first to Bermuda for 4 days when she was about 3.5 months. Then we took my second to the outer banks for a week when he was 6 days old. The one thing that stinks (for me, since I love it) is that baby can't really chill on the beach. We stuck them in long sleeve/pant rash guard suits, put hats on, and used a beach tent and I still worried about sun exposure - especially the reflections from the water into the tent.

  • DH and I have been working (me supervising) on cleaning out our barn/pole building/whatever you call it. We will host our gender reveal party in there on the 29th, so the clock is ticking. It hasn't held a party since our rehearsal dinner almost 9 years ago, so a thorough cleaning is needed!
  • I'm trying to make sure all of our friends and family know the big news before we announce on social media later this week. But I keep chickening out! I don't why the words "I'm pregnant" are so hard for me to force out. It's not even my first kid, and this one was actually planned. Maybe it's just because it's been a secret so long already.

I may end up having to text a few that I won't see again before Thursday (when we plan to announce). Would you be offended if a friend that you saw fairly regularly texted you that news?
  • @bcashaw I took ds on a 2 month backpacking trip in Peru when he was 4 months old :) I think babies make some of the best travelers. Some do struggle, but out of 20 flights and countless bus rides we only had a couple of rough ones!
  • @ooodalollly Not at all! We told a couple groups of friends through group text.

  • @ooodalollly it was only important to me to tell our very closest friends in person, everyone else we told through text if we didn't happen to see them first.

  • @ooodalollly  I TOTALLY get that.  I even told my mom and sister by sending them the video of us telling our kids :D  Part of it is that I don't love being the center of attention, but I just feel so awkward announcing a pregnancy.  It's weird!

    I can't sleep.....

    Ooops posted that too soon.

So i cant sleep. I've read everything on the board. Instagram. Pintrest. I've made a mental note of what we are all doing and wearing today...... what else does one do when they cant sleep?

Im tempted to wake dh for some loving.... which he is quite happy to put up with..... but seriously there's gotta be something else.
  • @ooodalollly and @MississippiCatfish I've been feeling the same way. Announcing makes me so anxious and it's been hard to find a good way to tell people. There's no natural way to lead a conversation to "I'm pregnant". It's been harder to announce than I thought it would be, and this is a much planned for and very very wanted baby!
  • @ooodalollly I actually feel really weird about my pregnancy around my dad. Totally fine around my mom though. We are not really a super hugging family to begin with and I think he feels really awkward too. I love my dad and think he's great but we've never been particularly close. It's making me really happy I'm not showing too much yet since I'm going to my parents' next weekend. He hasn't even mentioned it to me. My mom told him and she said he was really happy about it but all he's done is ask me how I'm feeling which I think is his way of telling me he is happy and cares haha.

TL;DR I get why it would feel weird with friends, considering I was having trouble telling my dad.

  • @c+mpeachey I clean, and get insomnia often when pregnant. I've tried it all but that seems to work the best. I get up and clean one room. Some days it's harder to force myself to do it but getting up and actually doing something makes me tired again for some reason!

That would be productive. Maybe I should consider that when I inevitably hit the insomnia full force. When I was pregnant with DS I would just watch tv. Granted, my house wasn't so messy then, so I guess it wasn't as relevant.

  • @ugoglencoco I have totally gotten sucked into car chases before! It's such a waste of time!!

  • Backstory: I hate jam. It's too sweet and I don't like it at all, blech. Every year, I get a solid amount of jam as a gift. I don't know why. I try to bring up my dislike of jam once in a while as a fun fact so that everyone knows I hate it. Today, one of our closest friends got us souvenirs from Quebec and mine was...wait for it...JAM.

There has got to be something about me that says "hey, this girl would love some jam". I feel like an ungrateful jerk but also very sad that I have yet another jar of jam.

  • car1acar1a member
@DuchessOfCambridge That IS super random - I've never received jam as a gift! Oddly I've been really craving jam this pregnancy, like on an english muffin, sometimes with peanut butter. I almost had a melt down at DH the other week because he used up the rest of our jam and it was the ONLY thing I wanted for dinner!

  • My BIL always gives us jam for Christmas. It usually ends up lasting until the next year...we don't eat much jam.
