Just confirmed today I have GD

    How far along are you?
    27+6

    Why are you high-risk?
GD, pre-e w previous pregnancy, medical history with first born

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Friday I saw my GD specialist, increased my insulin at night time and it seems to be doing the trick for all my numbers!  Woohoo!  I go back to see them in 4 weeks, or sooner if baby girl measures big at growth scan.  Monday I saw my OB had questions answered about my BP readings.  This Monday I have a growth scan, semi nervous because at my last one she was in the 87th%tile and the GD nurse was adamant about her staying under 90th%tile, but I have big babies.  My son is 27months and is off the charts for height and weight has been that way since he was born, so we'll see what happens.

    Any concerns/news currently?
kinda added that all in the question above oops!

Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?
Growth scan goes well and that baby girl stops being so stubborn, she's giving me a run for my money!

GTKY: If you had to go in the witness protection program, what name alias would you pick for yourself?
probably a exotic name, but I feel like it wouldn't fit so then it would be easy to find me?
  • adooadoo member
@cchenal07 I hope the specialist gets back to you soon!  I personally have had GD with both pregnancies and it can be overwhelming but if you follow exactly what they give you, everything should go smooth!

Youll have extra monitoring now and will have to complete Non-Stree tests starting at 32 weeks!

Let me know now if you have any questions!
  • @cchenal07 try not to worry too much, especially not until you see the specialist. It's likely you'll have to make some modifications to your diet, etc, but many women have GD and have healthy pregnancies/babies!
@Sugargirl1019 good luck with the growth scan!

    How far along are you?
    28+5

Why are you high-risk? Short cervix, random bleeding

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? Nothing this week

    Any concerns/news currently?
Just crossing my fingers that I don't have any bleeding or other issues for the next 8 days until my next appointment so that my OB will allow me to start working in the office again. I'll do whatever I need to do to keep baby safe, but working from home 5 days a week is really getting to me. I miss the social interaction and just feel like I can't do my job as well when I'm always remote. Making it through 11ish more weeks of pregnancy seems totally doable (at least right now), but 11ish more weeks of working at home full time sounds miserable.

Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?
    continued cervical stability, no bleeding

GTKY: If you had to go in the witness protection program, what name alias would you pick for yourself?
    Hard question! I don't know!
  • Thank you ladies! It was a complete shock as I didn't have it with my first. Any advice is helpful. Hugs to all of you!
  • How far along are you?
    27+4
    Why are you high-risk?
    I carry an antibody
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Just keeping up with my 4 pricks a day to monitor my blood sugar.  I have my midwife appointment Monday morning so I will finally be done and able to go over my numbers with her. Also another titer blood draw and anemia check on Monday.
    Any concerns/news currently?
I had my follow up growth ultrasound last Friday and the hole has closed! Baby looked absolutely perfect! The tech must have been new because after she took her measurements the doctor came in and went over everything again in detail training her on what to look for and how to use more functions on the machine. It was about a two hour appointment but honestly I did not mind.  He was very detailed even showing the tech different ways to look at the skull for a cleft palate.

  • @Sugargirl1019 I'm glad your numbers have been improving. I hope it continues.

@cchenal07 I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. I hope you can speak to the specialist soon and start taking the steps you need.

  • @Breath_Easy92 I have a short cervix (at shortest it was 2.0 cm and I'm now back up to 2.6/2.7 cm) and my OB told me that above 3 cm is considered normal. So far I have not had any funneling. I know that if you have a short cervix and funneling it's not a good thing, but I really don't know if funneling is a concern when your cervix is in the normal length range. I'd guess if they didn't mention anything about it then you don't need to worry, but of course you'd have to check with your doctor to be sure.
  • How far along are you? 26w4d

    Why are you high-risk? HBP

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? Just keeping track of blood pressure. It has gone up a bit recently. I hope it remains stable. I still need to do my GD test.

    Any concerns/news currently?
I have been sick lately and not sleeping well. Today is the first day I have felt pretty good waking up without excessive gagging.

Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now? That my blood pressure remains stable.

GTKY: If you had to go in the witness protection program, what name alias would you pick for yourself?
I am not sure about this one. If I was in witness protection I would probably go with something low key.
  • @Rhubarb7216 thanks! That did clarify for me better.  Yeah, it said that the image suggested funneling. so possibly they didn't think it was substantial enough to worry about.
  • I went to the chiropractor again this week :) She palpated baby and commented on how tiny she is. I was worried about a big baby, but I hope I don't need to worry about nutrients and a too small of a baby!  I do need her to stay put!

Got my A1c and thyroid labs back - surprisingly my A1c is a 5.3 (what? I don't trust A1cs anymore lol I've been so high!). My thyroid labs were in range so they don't want to change my dose, but I wasn't told what my numbers were.

  • I'm 38+5 weeks today, due September 1st. My OB put me at high risk because the baby measures a week and a half under weight and my amiotic fluid is on the low side at 8... he didn't seem too worried but he said he will do some extra ultrasounds to watch it. This is my third pregnancy and although I have battled with kidney problems and GD for my last two babies, this is new for me. Any one else dealing with Low AFI? Any insight would be appreciated ;)

  • @efrey1986 my baby is measuring a little small still...30th percentile and a couple days behind.  They told me they would just keep and eye on him but he seemed happy and might just be naturally small. Even though they expected him to be bigger. Babies and genetics don't like to play by the rules always. (I am 5'2" and small in general but my husband is 6'3" and just kind of a big guy naturally). Also, he was smaller than 30th percentile before and randomly had a week where he almost caught up to gestational age. sorry I wish I had more to say but if your doc doesn't seem terribly worried I would think that is comforting :)
  • @cchenal07  I'm sorry about the GD diagnosis. At least now you will be able to regulate your diet and have that extra monitoring to make sure your LO is healthy.

    How far along are you?

    27+3

    Why are you high-risk?

Insulin resistant, multiple MCs, preeclampsia, renal glycosuria, and bicornuate uterus

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?

Unfortunately yes. I had a handful of labs run yesterday and had to do another 24 hour urinalysis. My OB wants me to repeat the 24 hour urinalysis again by Monday. I have had to go into the doctor's office yesterday and again today for BP monitoring. I have to go back in again tomorrow because my BP is being ridiculous and staying right around 157-158 / 90. Also have to start monitoring and recording my BP throughout the day to report to my OB at our visits.

    Any concerns/news currently?

Just got the pre-e and renal glycosuria diagnoses on Wednesday. My BP has been going crazy lately no matter what I do. I started a daily baby aspirin regimen to help with the pre-e. I'm just hoping my BP will go down. If it gets to 160+ systolic or 90+ diastolic, my OB wants me checked into a hospital for monitoring.

Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now?

That my BP doesn't go over 160/90. I just need this  baby girl to stay put for another 9-10 weeks.

GTKY: If you had to go in the witness protection program, what name alias would you pick for yourself?

I honestly have no clue. I am terrible at picking out names.
  • @JNR6510 I'm so sorry about the pre-e diagnosis. I'll be praying that your blood pressure stays in check.

  • @JNR6510 I'm glad you updated here. I'm so sorry your BP is acting cray. I hope it stays under 160 and the baby aspirin helps. I'm on a baby aspirin too from the start but I know it's supposed to help prevent protein spilling and really high bp. Fx the 24 hr urine comes back okay!
That's weird how your kidneys are spilling sugar but your blood sugar is okay. Glad your doctor is keeping a check on that.

  • @JNR6510 Sorry to hear about the pre-e diagnosis. I hope the blood pressure remains under 160/90. I am also taking a fish oil supplement in addition to the baby aspirin for my HBP per the suggestion of my MFM. I am not sure if it helps, but something you may want to run by your doctor.
  • Um hi I'm Mambo I've kind of just been a lurker but I figure now is as good of a time to intro as any.

How far along are you? 28+1

Why are you high-risk? Cholestasis and Preeclampsia

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? I've been on hospital bedrest since Tuesday when I got diagnosed with preeclampsia. It's been a rough week.

Any concerns/news currently? Nope we have to go over my MRI results today. My nurses said they were normal but the headaches are still there and the dizziness and blind spots. Neuro said my brain didn't handle the sudden change in blood pressure well.

Anything I can pray for you specifically about right now? Just pray baby can stay in.

GTKY: If you had to go in the witness protection program, what name alias would you pick for yourself? Mailon Bartlett the novelist.

  • Quick question for the fellow ladies with GD. Should I be losing weight now? Im still waiting for my specialist to schedule an appointment. However I have been following the diet my doctor and insurance company gave me. I have lost 3 pds this week. I have only gained 10 total this pregnancy but I am overweight.  I know once the specialist calls it is something to talk about. Just curious if you went through the same thing.
  • @JNR6510 so sorry about the pre-e diagnosis. I hope your BP stays where it belongs and you can stay out of the hospital!
@Mambo5 welcome and sorry about the pre-e and hospital bed rest! I hope you can stay stable and the headaches go away.
  • @Mambo5 I'm sorry you are in the pre-e boat too. Hopefully your LO will stay out for a while yet!

@Sugargirl1019 I thought that was weird too! Makes me wonder if my blood sugar levels would be crappier if my kidneys were functioning properly and not dumping sugar.
  • @JNR6510 so sorry about the diagnosis.  I hope it remains under control so baby can stay put!  I also heard good things about adding a fish oil.  I use the Greener Pasture Cod Liver Oil.  I think it is the best one to take after doing research.

@Mambo5 so sorry you have joined us but welcome!

@cchenal07 yes it is normal to be losing weight since the GD diet is so restrictive but make sure to check with your doctor at your next appointment.
  • @Mambo5 Hey girl, sorry you've been diagnosed with pre-e AND cholestasis :( I hope you feel better and baby cooks much longer!

@cchenal07 I wouldn't try to lose weight, but the lame GD diet is a good reason for pounds to come off! I'd just run it by your doctor since they know your health history personally.

I had a growth scan today and baby has gone from 50% to 44% to 23% on growth. Blood flow through umbilical cord looks good and baby was very active, so we don't know why she's so petite. I go every 2 weeks for growth scans to watch her now. She has hair though!! Frank breach (still) and 2 pounds 6 ounces at 28+2.

@Sugargirl1019 I'll give you a little growth from my little girl!  Last time she was measuring in the 87th%tile and we will find out tomorrow where she's at now!  If she's over 90th I have to call my GD specialist and meet with them!  FX she picks up her growth and keeps going!

@JNR6510 I'll start a birth announcement thread?.... I'll steal language from another BMB. Apparently it's that time :-) Anyone have thoughts on a separate L&D or people making their own threads for the birth? That seems to be the common routes. I'll leave it generic and can update if needed.

  • @wineren I've seen it both ways. I tend to prefer the separate L&D thread. That way you don't miss when someone posts there own thread about the birth. I know I've sometimes been gone a few days and I'd hate to completely miss a thread when one of my Bump friends has her baby.
