Does a baby really need a mobile? I'm not planning to get one, but want to make sure I'm not creating any sort of long-term emotional damage.
No. We had one and I don't think DD cared. I took it away after a few months because we never used it. We had much more luck with white noise machines.
I always laugh at mobiles that seem to be designed more for parents. I realized this with the one I had. All DD was looking at were the bottoms of animal feet. It looked much cuter from the outside lol
@Purplestarz HAHHAHA that is so true! A baby never sees the faces! Although I still standby that DS enjoyed his. It gave me enough hands free time to go poop.
Inspired by some random chats - hair loss prevention/tips?
My mom told me her hair was never the same after pregnancy. She used to have hair just like mine now and I got a little vain thinking my life is going to end if I start shedding small animals or my hair turns into a wavy lions mane.
Any vitamin recommendations? Does this happen to everyone?
I'm anti anything in/on a crib besides their blanket, so no mobile here. I go by the same rules with the babies/kids as they say for adults for better sleep. Dark room, white noise only, which for us is a fan (no music, lights and sounds like those toys they market for in the crib), no tv in the room (obviously that's when they get older) and bed is only for sleeping.
@PizzaMonster3. I haven't heard of anything that prevents the hair loss post partum. It was traumatic, which is why I cut my hair because itbwas less traumatic to have less hair fall out. But mine filled back in just fine. If I remember correctly it was around 4 months pp
TTC x 1.5 years.
Acupuncture, Femera x3 cyles, and HSG. BFP in September 2014, DS born June 2015. TTC x2 months. BFP January 2017.
@PizzaMonster3 I think it just happens - sorry! You can stay on top of your vitamins etc but I dont know how well that works. My hair grew back. I had to suffer through a lot of wispy bits around my face which was annoying.
Most jogging strollers have adapters for your car seat. I have the BOB and I love. I'm not a jogger but it's awesome for the places I use strollers: walks around the neighborhood, zoos, basically anything extended walking.
My recommendation to people who plan to have similar use of strollers is a jogging stroller and a small umbrella stroller like the Chico liteway plus (for travel and shopping).
@PizzaMonster3 I have a lot of hair and I definitely lost more strands starting at about 3 months pp, but I never lost patches like some women do. I could tell, but I don't think anyone else could.
How long is it okay to leave the baby home alone in the crib? Agree with others - don't leave monitor range. But I'll admit it took me several months to work up the nerve to walk down the driveway when LO was in the crib sleeping.
Breastfeeding class: I got nothing, I didn't go any of the classes when I was pregnant before.
Can the baby be harmed or is there any reason to worry about putting the bassinet/crib directly under the ceiling fan or in the path of the AC vents? Ceiling fans are okay I think. But I would move the vents to blow away from the baby.
How long do these LOs stay in newborn clothes, aka, how much newborn stuff do I really need? DD was in newborn clothes/diapers for approximately 3 days. Biggest waste of money. We gave away a full case of newborn diapers. My SIL asked what kind of diapers to get and I'm pretty sure I told her to get 3's.
If you breast feed, and possibly formula feed to supplement due to childcare, should you or could you give your baby water? **ETA: In addition to the breast milk or formula? Nopeeeeeee. They'll be perfect with formula or breastmilk.
Can you use a jogging stroller for an infant? What stroller's would you recommend? I used Graco Click Connect, too. I didn't do any crazy jogging, but I did do some and a ton of walking. This is the exact one and I liked it because we had the Graco click base for our car, then I could take the carseat out and put in the stroller, and then when DD got older, I could take the carseat part out of the stroller and put her forward facing
Any vitamin recommendations? Does this happen to everyone? My hair is crazy thin anyway but I don't remember having a ton of hair loss after pregnancy.

When I sleep on my side, my belly kind of slides over to the side too. Sometimes I feel baby girl kicking where my stomach is smushed against the bed. I'm not crushing her at all, right?
@bluejeanbabi05 I have the same issue...FTM here. I just lift my belly up with my hand. I've also shoved some blanket under my belly for added support...kind of like a wedge. Hope this helps! We are in the same boat!
Is it bad to lay on your stomach for a few minutes to stretch out your back? LO seems to kick more when I do that, but it's not painful to me (at least not yet). Can it hurt him to do that for 5ish minutes?

Nawwww, you're good. I kind of like it, it lets me know LO is hanging out. Last night it's was quiet when I was on my right side and when I flipped over to my left side, it started attacking my bladder. I assume that was their displeasure and they must have been comfy on the other side.

i sleep on my stomach i try to angle a bit. but i cannot sleep anyway else. i have no idea if this is wrong or not but ive done it for all my pregnancies. so i think it is ok?
A piece of advice my doctor gave me is if it's not hurting you, it's not hurting the baby. I would assume if it's comfortable to sleep/lay on your stomach then it's okay?

That helps me feel better. I sleep on my back and supposedly it's supposed to be uncomfortable after a point but I'm most uncomfortable when I try to sleep on my side. Our bed has an adjustable base so we're always sort of inclined and have our feet raised so I assume that helps too.
I'm a back sleeper too. I have a snoogle and try to wedge myself against it to stay on my side but always end up on my back. My doctor told me the same thing, if it's not uncomfortable for you it's fine for baby. And that your body will move itself if something is wrong.

Same here. I'm like half on my stomach/half on my side.

Has anyone not been able to have someone else feel Baby kick yet? I can't remember when DD started kicking super hard. I got my weekly pregnancy email today and it said that others should be able to feel Baby kick. I do feel the swishy movements still. I realize those emails are not very reliable though.
@spark88 I haven't had anyone else be able to feel, but in the last week I've started being able to see the baby kick if I'm sitting still long enough and the baby gets riled up enough. If I could get anyone to be patient enough to sit with me for awhile, I think they could feel but it seems to be all over the place right now. It may depend on where the baby's hanging out right now

DH has felt kicks since about 22wks. Usually at bed time when I'm laying still and kiddo is most awake. DH will have one hand on my belly and one hand scrolling OfferUp lol
There is a fly in my house that keeps taunting me and all 5 of my pets can't catch it. It's starting to piss me off.

I can feel baby kick on the outside, but every time DH tries she stops kicking. I took a video once when I could see it and sent it to him. He was in the other room and by the time he came in to feel she stopped again. Right now both baby is kicking and the dog is kicking in her sleep at the same time. I feel like I'm being attacked from all angles.
I've felt pretty consistent kicks since 21 weeks. Only recently I've been able to feel a few strong kicks from the outside (hand/arm resting on the tum and could feel it). DH also felt a couple of kicks, but he says they don't feel very strong, which I understand because I'm feeling it from the inside.
Honestly though, some days she's pretty quiet and others she's communicating to me through interpretive dance.
June 2017 Siggy Challenge: "You had one job to do!"
Maybe an hour after I posted my question I was sitting still talking on the phone and I felt and saw a kick. I just turned 21 weeks today. So she was proving to me she is all good.
DH's cousin is getting married about 1 and a half hours away from us on September 1. I will be 36 weeks. MIL told me yesterday to put a note in my RSVP about being a maybe since I may not be able to travel far away from home at that point. If I have no complications, is that really a thing? I could understand being told not to go on a big vacation at that point, but not being able to go an hour and a half away at 36 weeks? Is that something doctors do, or is MIL just being weird?
