I plan to give her anything whether I like it or not. She might like it even though I don't.
Same here. I hope to expand her palette beyond mine as I can be a fairly limited eater myself.
Same. My 3 girls are pretty adventurous... my 3rd will eat ANYTHING. My son won't eat anything but oatmeal and applesauce so far. But we will see! Going to try avocado soon.
Thx ladies, makes actually perfect sense and have made a 'duh' moment Anything is on the menu (of course age appropriate!)
I didn't know about the allergy bit. I never really thought about it besides the dairy (as we already have the allergy) Ive just been told you won't know they have an allergy unless you make them try it. Just start with teaspoons and see what happens. Then slowly increase the amount.
I think S may have an apple allergy. Today was day 2 and she broke into a hivey rash on her neck and cheek. She already has a dairy allergy. Ugh.
I've been told as we too have the dairy allergy that they have a bigger chance of having more allergies/reactions. They said if a reaction occurred to leave the food for a month or two and to try again, as they grow out of most.
is it normal to see whatever they eat in their stool almost immediately ? my LO always poops a lot since birth but last week it is getting extreme. I am not sure if it is something specific she ate or she is reacting to solid food in general.
My LO often poops during eating or right after. Every baby has their own frequency, so it's normal up til once every four days.! As they are still getting their intestines to learn how to process foods, 'bits and pieces' may be found in it.

Yes, S poops A LOT and I can see it within the same day, especially carrots.
So I just had our 7 month check up. We get a few extra due to the cowsmilk allergy and my LO not really liking her bottle. (She hardly finish them)
From giving her 6 bottles a day I need to cut down to 3,5 to 4!
They want me to do the following: 07:00 - 200ml bottle 09:30 - fruit 10:00 - nap 12:00 - bread with 100-200 ml bottle 14:00 - nap 16:00 - veggies, potatoes and eventually meat with 100ml bottle 18:00 - nap (max 1 hour) 19:30 - 200ml bottle 20:00 - down for the night
Its pretty much our schedule timewise. But she gets an extra bottle between 22:30 and 23:00 and wakes MOTN to drink one. Those two she actually finish as she's sleeping/sleepy and doesn't mind the taste and there's nothing to see. I hope with all the extra food she'll adjust to not having a feeding at night. They said to give her water at night if she really wants to drink... Crossing my fingers that this schedule is to her liking.
Can you use frozen or canned items to make baby food? I'm guessing it might not be a good idea since it probably has preservatives? I'd like to make some purée but when I think about it some of the stuff I've been feeding him so far (squash, sweet potato) I don't eat myself and have no idea how to cook, let alone turn into baby food
@kvruns frozen veggies are a great alternative!! (Canned have preservatives but frozen are usually flash frozen so nothing added). When frozen just steam them then purée! Keeps most of the nutrients that way!
@m6agua By made do you mean simply puréed? What are you mixing with the food to make a smooth consistency?
We did watermelon yesterday and the process was entertaining but nerve-wracking. It was basically LO sucking on the slice until a piece came loose, him moving it around in his mouth until it either fell out or made me nervous enough to pull it out. He enjoyed the taste though.
@SandNStarsNJ Yes I cooked the item, most was steamed and then blended up in my food processor with some of the water from steaming. Not everything came out perfectly smooth. Banana I just gave her a small chunk to see what she would do. I have watermelon to try sometime this week! I normally mix the purees with a little formula to make it slightly thinner when feeding it to her.
So does anyone else give their LO water? My friend whose daughter is 2 months older than A was shocked that I wasn't giving her water yet. I guess her ped said to give water with each meal starting at 6 months...
@RhodaMorgenstern I asked about this at her appointment last week. Her doctor said not to worry about water. She said it is essentially something that will make LO full but not give her any calories. She thinks she will get plenty from the formula and homemade purees.
I give water! I offer with every meal. Just In a sippy cup. He doesn't usually drink much of it. But at 6 months I started offering. Max 2 oz at a time for a max of 4 oz a day. Yesterday was the first time he ever drank much of it.
I could give my LO water with the nightfeed instead of formula, as to 'she then won't wake up again' well, she was not happy with the water! And I had a tougher night. So instead she's getting half a bottle of formula and I'll slowly give her less. As for now she drinks formula after bread and dinner. But eventually when she eats proper she could drink just water. She still needs her calories. I like the idea of sippy cup practice.
I make homemade purée. I steam the vegetables and blend them. I don't make them thinner and they aren't always as smooth (depending on what it is) but my LO doesn't know better. Fruits I actually sometimes add ricecereal to thicken it a wee bit.
She eats strawberries whole, as well as chunk bananas, and pieces of bread. She gagged everytime in the beginning, but now it's less frequent. It's scary to see, and difficult not to react on it (as in freaking out) but she's even master gagging it up quicker. She loves anything I give her.
I do mix purée and pieces (of course not at the same time) she definitely knows the difference eating with a spoon or chewing when feeding herself. The latter is a messy business, but she loves it!
We don't do water yet although apparently my parents gave him water yesterday after they fed him baby food. I still don't know why they did they made it sound like it was to wash down the food kind of thing. Idk
@tvh1982 What kind of bread do you give LO? I saw that you mentioned before that the DR recommended that and I thought it was interesting as it's not something I've heard before.
We made popsicles this evening with watermelon and banana - separately, of course - and it went over super well. LO felt included in the "everyone is eating together", he liked the taste (especially banana) and it helped with the teething. He actually got upset when he was done (we cut him off after two).
I got DD her own sippy cup and started putting an ounce or two (max) in it and giving it to her every once in a while. I remember DS's pediatrician saying they don't need water at this age because there's plenty in breastmilk, but that it was ok for them to have an ounce or two. I only give it to her because she is obsessed with DS's sippy cups and tries to reach for them, play with them, drink from them every chance she gets. I actually stopped giving her the sippy cup with her meals because she gets so excited and will just play and chew on it the entire time and won't eat a bite, then cries if I take it away . I think it's more of a play/experimentation thing because she sees DS with them all the time than her actually wanting to drink water. She's never had more than a few small sips.

Same here. He seems to just want to do what everyone else is doing. If we eat at the table without him, he cries and when he's at the table he throws himself at out cups and food and stares at his sister eating. It's kind of adorable.
B had sweet potatoes for the first time Sunday. Do you think it is possible to have had a reaction almost 24 hours later (the vomiting/diarrhea he had at daycare Monday)? That is the only thing I can think of that was different in his routine
Edit: I googled and apparently a lot of babies/kids have reactions to sweet potatoes although they seemed to be within a few hours of having it, not 24 hours later.

You could try them again and see if you get the same reaction to narrow it down.
We are avoiding sweet potatoes. DH developed a mild allergy to them in the last couple years.
Thanks guys. I"m going to ask at his ear check today. If I try them again it will be this weekend so I don't have to worry about him potentially being sent home from daycare.
So I just laughed to myself because I bought some Stage 2 baby food on clearance and some of those Puffs. It is all sweet potato. Let's hope it isn't really an allergy/intolerance
Next question: I bought a bag of frozen carrots yesterday and when I got home I noticed it was a steamer bag. Can I just steam them in the microwave like I would if I were serving them to myself? Then mash it up or puree or whatever?

You're welcome @anne11716 My LO has an intolerance for cowsmilk (they won't call it an allergy anymore as she's improving) but that's the advice they gave me to wait a month and to re-introduce as they often grow out of intolerances.
For those BLW: got told from daycare that my LO has no time for fruitpuree and actually snatches pieces of fruit out of other kids hand or plate (whatever she can reach!) How do you give them eples? Bitesizes?
And as for pieces of bread? Do you just give them bite size or a to hold size? Have you put any spread on them?
Right now my LO gets a slice of eple in her munchkin and bread I feed small pieces to her, but I might need to do this different.
