It's supposed to be 90 and sunny here today and tomorrow. My car is in the shop getting fixed since I was rear ended. I'm wondering what I'm going to do with baby and toddler to keep everyone happy. My yard isn't fenced so it makes keeping ds1 enclosed hard.
I got a whole 6 total hours of interrupted sleep last night, all of my family is currently sleeping, and TB let me log in so I'll play!
Oof! It's going to be in the 90s all week here too. DD1 is supposed to start swimming lessons today but she is nervous about them ("I don't want to drown.") and I'm not looking forward to walking 15 minutes to the pool with the twins and DD in this heat. I can't stay inside all day though - did that yesterday and felt really blue.
We've had bad rain/storms all. Week. Long. I've had a horrible headache all. Week. Long. It's also been humid and still in the 90s despite the rain. Ugh...looks sunny right now but I think it's supposed to rain again this afternoon. Welcome to rainy season in Florida!
We have a weight check and hearing test today for Ollie. Hoping he's gained weight! He didn't have the hearing test done in the hospital because insurance said that we'd have to pay a $1400 deductible since he was in the hospital. Umm yeah we dissent have that. So once insurance kicked in we were able to schedule it. Our pedi didn't seem to mind and just said to get it done soon. Hoping that goes well today, too!
Happy Monday!
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
@BabyMC517 That much just for the hearing test? I can't imagine the whole hospital stay wouldn't surpass the test in cost. Maybe I'm missing something...
Hope the appt goes well and you get some sunshine soon!
@mdlorenz it kind of stumped us too! The insurance said that because we were in the hospital that it would be like a hospital visit/test so we'd have to pay that first. One of the nurses told us not to worry about it because babies tend to still have fluid in their ears so as long as it's done within the first month he would be fine. Our dr said the same thing. Should only have to a copay today if there is one, I'm not sure since he is on my H's insurance and he's been setting it all up.
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
@lrwardrop oh no, when did you get rear ended? Sounds like a good time for a visitor to "hang out" or help with your oldest when playing oitside?
@mdlorenz hooray for 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep! Oh man, what do you say to that (your DD' s comment)? Yes to feeling blue when cooped up and inside all day. Even just going in the backyard or a drive helps with that since we are triple digits bound now (although it was raining the last couple of days).
@BabyMC517 good luck with Ollie's weight check and hearing test. Hoping your headache has subsided by now.
Right now I have Rowan laying across my lap on his tummy because while trying to feed him, he was trying really hard to poop. So he also got a back massage when I heard the flood gates open. He totally just fell asleep, lol.
@BabyMC517 that seems expensive for a test, glad you were able to wait and still get it done without that cost.
DD was a little colicy before bed last night. But she finally calmed down and the slept for 6.5 hours straight I was so happy to sleep that long. Of course, silly me closed my eyes for 5 minutes which turned into 1.5 hours and started work later than I wanted to.
It's supposed to be upper 80's and scattered storms all week here, too. I'll probably be spending most of my time inside, but hopefully I can figure out a couple little trips during the week to break things up. I haven't been to Target in weeks...
I've mentioned this on Hogwarts, but I've been a bit frustrated with how leaky I've been. I've been exclusively BFing so far and have passed the main engorgement stage, but I don't think my supply has regulated. When I feed Juniper, my other boob leaks enough that I've been using the Milkies Milk Saver to catch it. I've probably collected close to 100 oz in the last week or so since I got that. The boob she's on also ends up leaking a bit as she works out latching, so I always have a burp cloth under that one. Most of the time, one or the other side still ends up leaking onto my clothes, too. I feel like it's just a huge thing every time I feed, which is why I haven't even contemplated BFing in public yet. I hope this will adjust as my supply regulates, but it's frustrating right now. I don't want to complain about my oversupply, because I know many women have the opposite problem, which would be very difficult. I just wish I could go out of the house without having to wait for a good feed and then making sure I can get back in time for the next one.
@starphish18 that does sound frustrating. Even though I'm a STM, I have no experience in exclusively BF beyond the initial days. FX your supply regulates real soon. Have you been storing the milk your other boob leaks?
@mcvgal Yaye to your uninterrupted sleep as well! Do you get to make up your own work schedule?
@mrsrep123 I haven't started pumping yet. I was going to start next week so we can start doing a daily bottle feed. I just didn't want to "mess" with the BFing routine too early. I think we've been doing good with that, so I wanted to stick with it until the recommended 4 weeks before I threw pumping into the mix. I haven't talked to a LC yet, either, but I do want to.
@mrsrep123 yes, I have a flex schedule and can start anytime between 6-930, plus working from home today. I always try to start earlier when I am at home since I. Am aaving myself the commute time.
@starphish18 I'd definitely talk to a LC. You don't want to pump too much and create an even greater over supply.
@mrsrep123 I got rear ended at a stop light a couple days before I went into labor. Such a pain in the butt considering it wasn't my fault.
@starphish18 I have the same issue. I should get those milk savers. I am constantly changing my nursing pads and clothes because milk is everywhere. Baby is 3 weeks old and milk is still spraying all over his face and leaking out of his mouth when he eats. I pump once a day and that helps.
I've been trying to give baby a bottle once a day but it seems like he can't handle the flow. I have the slow flow nipples and I've tried 3 bottles so far. This didn't happen with ds1 so I hope once he gets a little bigger he will be able to tolerate it.
Add me to the list of people trying to stay cool with the kiddos. My best friend wants to do a pool day Thursday and just thinking about it stresses me out.
Also our close friends and neighbors moved away yesterday across the country. It's only for a year but I cried ugly tears because we saw them every single day and i have no idea how our daily routine will be now. It makes me anxious and sad. We're looking to move too but we haven't seen anything in our price range and city yet.
@starphish18: I second/third the recommendation to call an LC. It doesn't have to be some big thing where you set an appointment and have to leave the house and be all stressed out about timing amd feedings. She might be able to do a house call to your place, or discuss over a phone call or email. Try to reach out soon!
@lrwardrop: Re the too-fast flow, try this: prepare the bottle, turn it over the sink (or burp cloth) to see how it's flowing vs drip dropping... and then press into it with your (clean) finger, which I've found can affect the flow rate. It probably has to do with the temperature, vacuum, demand on nipple, etc. Diff brands are diff, obviously, but two of the exact same nipples can behave diff also. It's a small thing to try/play with but you might find it helpful?
@lrwardrop have you tried paced feeding? There is a good video on you tube to help with that and it helps baby pace themselves supposedly. Sorry if I've already suggested that to you!
@starphish18 I have a big supply and I just stopped leaking excessively this past week I'm 4 weeks pp. I pump early morning to relieve pressure and once before bed
Ollie gained a pound! He's now 8 lbs 12 oz! Woohoo! On our way to the hearing test now!
So far I'm headache free, but it's cloudy and supposed to rain again so my guess is I'll get one in a little bit. Stupid pressure changes! It's currently 90 but feels like 102 wth 62% humid according to the weather channel, storms this afternoon...yay!
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
First outing alone with the baby today. Weight check at the dr then attempting to go to the craft store and grocery shop.
@starphish18 please don't worry about complaining about leaking. As someone who is stressed about under supply now, I hate to be the reason why you don't get support.
We think something may be wrong with our AC unit. It just can't seem to every get to the point where it can shut off, no matter what the temperature really is or how high we set it. Milk monster has also decided that every 2.5-3 hour feeds were much too generous and now wants food every 1.75 hours....
How do you know where to draw the line between colic and actually requiring a call to the pediatrician? I know I have been really lucky to have easy going babies for the most part, so I wonder if DD's colic is normal. She us still eating and sleeping fine, but crying more than her usual and just seems uncomfortable.
@mcvgal I'm sorry she's having a tough time. I have no experience or real advice to give, but hope she starts to feel better! I suppose if it's way more than normal I'd give a call to my dr to see what they think.
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
I called the ask a nurse line because the pediatrician will return calls tomorrow since it's later in the day. The nurse gave a few suggestions: Loosen the diaper, nurse for shorter periods of time, no need to try to burp her for more than 15 minutes. She did recommend I call the pediatrician and try to get in within the next 3 days.
@BabyMC517 yay on the hearing test! DS actually failed his the first go around and I think it was fluid in the ear. They retested right before discharge and he passed

DS failed his first go too, I had to go back a week later to have it re-done (the first one was done half an hour before discharge)

@lrwardrop that generally sucks but the timing of it made it that much worse. How'd it go entertaining the kiddos today?
@BabyMC517 high 5 for Ollie gaining a pound and passing his hearing test! I took Rowan in on his 1 month birthday since he won't have another well check until 2 months... and he has gained 2+ lbs and grew 2 & 3/4 I'm from birth! I'd celebrate any type of growth honestly!
@absbubbs do you have a home warranty with a.c. coverage? Ugh with the summer we're about to have, I'd be so annoyed with the situation. Hoping she's just going through a growth spurt or leap and will return to get prior feeding schedule.
@Jens_Hoes how was your first outing with your LO?
Thanks for the tips ladies. I've been trying to pace feed but maybe I was doing something wrong. I tried a Dr.Brown's bottle tonight with the newborn nipple and he did perfect. Good thing I have all these random bottles that they give you for free !
I was exhausted today, I went to "bed" at 830pm. Lets hope tomorrow is a better day.
@lrwardrop Yay for a better feed! Dr Browns are a pain to clean (parts!) but they are supposedly the most consistent flow on the market. Wish I had a paper backing that up...
@BabyMC517 Woohoo! It's nice to have that out of the way.
@starphish18 I second the rec to be cautious about pumping (could increase your supply) and to see an LC if things don't calm down in the next 2-3 weeks. I wouldn't try this yet but block feeding (check kellymom) I see probably what you will have to do to further regulate your supply. (I wouldn't recommend this any earlier than around 6 weeks PP unless the oversupply is causing serious problems)
@mcvgal I hope things with Lucia's fussiness smooth out soon. I'd echo others and say it never hurts to call (as you did/will). I'd much rather hear about a fussy baby and try to help than 99% of all of the other things people call about after hours.
My first outing yesterday went awesome. She's up to 7 lbs 1.5 oz , which is only 2.5 oz away from birth weight. Grocery shopping with her went perfectly fine, except I clearly underestimated the space the car seat would take up lol I had to strategically place the groceries in the cart. My milk is finally in and I'm feeling more confident about not having to supplement.
@chailife34 and others who are upset about Hogwarts, I'm pretty surprised about how many people said they'd post both, but ditched here. I can't imagine I'll post forever, but I'm here for the next Little bit.
@Jens_Hoes that's awesome to hear about your outing and appointment and general feelings! I need to pull off the bandaid and get out of the house with her. My biggest hurdle is how much she hates her car seat and screams bloody murder in the car. Sounds stressful to be driving with her that way.
@ShadeofGreen816 Does she fall asleep once you're driving? That's my saving grace. She doesn't like the car seat but movement puts her to sleep so she slept through our entire outing. I also failed to mention I had to pull over twice, once in a parking lot and once on a kind of busy back road to check on her because I had anxiety about her flopping her head and dying while I was driving home. But alas, I didn't kill her lol
She's iffy on driving but we haven't really driven much. Just home from the hospital about 15 min and to and from the pedi who's only 10 min away. Yesterday on the way home from pedi we made the mistake of stopping at a drive thru and there was a long wait and I've never heard her scream quite like that!! I actually took her out of her seat and held her until we got our food. Not good I know but I couldn't handle the crying and the red face. I thought she'd burst a blood vessel or something! It was torturous.
Glad to know im not the only one with random anxieties that I'm going to kill my child!

I've been wondering the same thing. As baby gets older he seems to be crying more and nothing I do makes him happy. In my case I think my baby is just over tired. He wakes up the second I put him down or sometimes in my arms he still can't get comfortable.
If he seems uncomfortable.. I know it's pretty controversial but people I know have taken their babies to the chiropractor and said it worked miracles. Their bodies were "out of allignment" from birth. I took ds1 one time to because he had reflux, it did actually help with the way he was turning his head and moving one of his arms . of course they want you to keep coming back but I didn't. They basically do massage, not anything like what is done to an adult.
@Jens_Hoes glad to hear the first outing went well. This is my 3rd kid and I am still trying to master the grocery shopping with an infant. It's is much easier once they can actually sit in the cart.

To make it easier, I would use the hooks on my stroller to hold reusable grocery bags and just throw the items in there. Obviously, works for weekly trips since I'm not restocking everything.
