Baby showers

Re: Baby showers

  • @DeansGirl14 my sister didn't put registry info on our invites and since we registered largely on Amazon and some babies r us, I am convinced no one will buy off amazon and very little off the other.
Like hello I actually need the registry stuff, not just the cute crap people will buy otherwise.
My mom emailed some of the family with where we were registered so hopefully that will help.
    We'll see I guess.
    TW:
    1 infant loss
    8/17: Our daughter was born
8/18: Our daughter kicked open heart surgery ass
2/19: We lost our son to Prader-Willi/Paradoxical Vocal Cord/ Noonans at 6wks old
    4/26/2020: EDD for baby #3!!!

  • All of our invites had our registry info and we still got mostly stuff we didn't request.

People will buy what they want even if you add registry.
  • I echo everyone's comments about most people buying what they want, regardless of the registry info being on there. I have loved using Babylist- it has made it so easy to add stuff from so many different websites. I've found that most of the people who've purchased from my registry are of the younger generation :) my grandma and other older, more traditional family members and friends bought mostly clothes, books, stuffed animals.

I've also kept my Amazon registry private and added a ton of postpartum care supplies so that I can get those at a discount right before and know I'll get them really quickly. :)
  • Those of you @DeansGirl14 and @smallbutmighty77 did your hosts ask people to RSVP? If so when guests contact them to RSVP maybe they can casually mention, oh I just wanted to let you know that she is registered at _____.  I'm super anal about getting things people registered for and if I get an invite that doesn't include the information, I will look up the common sites and check for registries, so maybe some will do that.  We did get a bunch of random stuff as well, so I did have a lot of returns.  I downloaded a price check app and scanned barcodes on things I didn't want or need so I could find out where they came from or where I would get the most back. I even worked the system and added things to my registry so I could return it because for some reason places tend to be more lenient when you say, oh I only registered for one of this item and I got duplicates. I'd get a store credit and then get what we needed. We wound up having some left over that we used for things he needed as he got older.
  • @southernmama15 Yes to the best of my knowledge when my mom received RSVPs, she responded back with the registries. I don't know if my MIL did the same but we did get registry gifts from her side, so they knew. Folks are right that people will buy what they want regardless.

Incidentally there's nothing I want to return and DH agrees. The clothes will get used and the only duplicates we got were small things (like, too many snack cups and a duplicate bottle brush). We decided we'd pass these little extras to our parents so they can keep some supplies in-home for our visits.

  • @DeansGirl14 we went through a ton of bottle brushes! We had the Dr. Brown's ones and the foam at the tip would break off.

Oh! Noted! (Good thing they're only like five bucks!)

We did formula feed and it can clump in the bottom. I *may* be a bit aggressive when cleaning bottles.
  • @SouthernMama15 What's the name of that price check app?? Sounds awesome!

  • @secicc12 I honestly don't remember but if you go to your app store or Google play and search barcode finder, there are a ton.  The one I had gave local prices and had an option for online as well.
  • I don't mean to dredge up an old topic...but, does anyone have good ideas on hostess gifts for their shower? I have 4 people hosting mine, 2 are my best friends moms, the other 2 are my sister/ SIL so varying ages.... I didn't want to do just a generic GC.

  • @smallbutmighty77 this is actually great. My shower is this weekend and I'm working on building baskets for each of the three women throwing mine. So far I've got wine for two of the ladies and a Starbucks card for the non-wine drinker.  I'm thinking of doing a nice candle and maybe yummy body scrubs but, if anyone else has ideas, that'd be awesome!

  • I feel it might be difficult to not have anything you need already before the baby comes.  I think if you create a registry than have a party to thank everyone for the gifts and to meet the baby. If people want to bring a gift to the party then they can do that too. Just make sure you feel that you have anything you need before the baby. I think having a baby shower after the birth is different but moms usually know best. Trust her and ask her to help you or bring the people to you.

She is trying to tell you to register through my registry. I read some of her posts yesterday and she was completely endorsing myregistry.com

  •  I can't wait until she mixes up profiles and posts on the wrong one. It's bound to happen with her growing FOUR babies.
