Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science
7 IUIs, 7 BFNs. 2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs. Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire. Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus! fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP! Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)
I've pretty much just dealt with the breast tenderness so far. I do have some occasional mild cramping in my uterus, but it's usually when I'm relaxing and trying to calm my mind before bed and whatnot.
I have felt a bit more exhausted (both physically and mentally) now that I think of it though. I have been going to bed a lot earlier than normal, but I had just assumed it was because I've been getting up early this week because of my beta draws.
I've been exhausted! And also oh so constipated and bloated. Anyone have any tips? I've been drinking so much water and eating all the fiber foods and still haven't had a good crap since Wednesday haha.
The cramping has mostly gone away for me. I only get it here and there but when I do get it, it seems more intense. I ebb and flow between EXHAUSTED and not tired at all. Every once in awhile if I smell something gross or don't eat when I should I get nausea. Everything else I think is just SS at this point, except the boobs. Holy buckets do they hurt. I HAVE to wear a bra at all times while awake and they are starting to overflow my current bra. I am thinking I may need to go shopping for a new one soon. Any advice is welcome.
@michwich-2 I have had a twitch through a large section of my right hamstring off and on since I got my BFP. Not so much soreness but tiredness and the twitch. Don't know if its related or just weird timing. Is it a specific spot on one leg or the other, or just achy everywhere?
Me 30 DH 36 Married 9/26/15 TTC 2/10/17 - BFP 5/5/17 - EDD 1/11/18
@mtcowgirl27 It's in my calves. They just feel really sore, which is weird because I haven't done any more excercise than normal. It could be a coincidence. I just thought I'd check with others. I'm paranoid about varicose veins!
I feel bad telling you this but no nausea here! Been tired at work last week but I'm okay today. Only thing I noticed was the smells, all the smells! ETA: oh yah, my boobs have been killing me!
@KatieEl this is my third pregnancy. My first pregnancy had plenty of nausea and exhaustion but it was worse with my second pregnancy. With my second it started mildly around 5 weeks and probably peaked at 13 weeks. It was really hard. So all that to say, my second was worse. Stay tuned for the third. I'm trying to be tough but I've had mild nausea and fatigue so far and tomorrow is 6 weeks for me. My second was a girl, first was a boy. The midwife said she thought girls and the extra estrogen contributed to feeling worse.
Is anyone else experiencing insomnia? It's currently 3:21 am and I've been up since about 2 when I got up and had to pee. This is after I could barely hold my eyes open at 8pm because we moved yesterday. I'm exhausted but cannot fall back to sleep after I get up to pee in the middle of the night (which is also a new phenomenon since getting pregnant).

Married April 2016 BFP: 4/21/2017 EDD: 12/31/17 TTC #1: 4/2016 - 4/2017 Became a momma to a wonderfully weird rescue dog in May 2016
@MrsDorkCharming - I'm sorry you couldn't sleep. I woke up in the middle of the night to pee but I wasn't tired all day and it hit me at night and I think I slept about 9 hours. I feel like $1M!
I'm not going to survive these pregnancy dreams. I have several every night and they're all either sad or terrifying. Last night the worst 2 were about my dad dying and the dog we lost last March. I've been trying not to cry since I woke up. They're so vivid.
@mamakassie2, I've been having terrible dreams too. The worst was a very vivid, graphic dream of my brother getting in a car accident. It is giving me serious anxiety!
Other than the dreams, I feel like I'm having every symptom in the book- I hate to complain because I am so incredibly grateful. But this nausea- ugh! It's so hard to make healthy food choices when I can't even think about food without dry heaving. I've been living off of plain flour tortillas because it's the only thing I can stomach.
Does anyone else dread taking your prenatals? I take them at night (along with oral progesterone and baby aspirin, vitamin D, a probiotic, B complex, and an extra folic acid. I can get most of them down but the the smell/taste of the B complex is so disgusting that I might stop taking it for a while. My husband laughs at me because it takes me 30 mins to take them all, and I wash each pill down with several bites of apple sauce, all while gagging.
@MrsDorkCharming I am with you on bring up in the middle of the night. I never have that issue. I remember having it with my previous pregnancies too. Last night I went to bed super hungry and finally broke down at 1:30 am to have Honey Nut Cheerios.
@tzeg that sounds rough, could you temporarily stop taking any more of this pills until your nausea improves? Or maybe take some of them in the morning vs all at once? I take my prenatal as close to falling asleep as I can too. Its hard to take it with food in my stomach that way though.
What do others do about eating close to bed time? I don't want to get sick bc of empty stomach but I also don't want to flare up my reflux issue by eating and lying down. And of course food doesn't sound great either.
In one night, my breasts went from a small C (full B before BFP) to a small D. I am in pain and also seeking bra tips! I hate that I could go running right now except my boobs hurt sooooo much.
@remindmeofthebabe do you practice yoga at all? The only sustainable relief I've been able to have is the day after a good yoga practice with lots of twists. If you're not a yogi, I'd recommend checking out wind removing pose, supine twists, and any other twists online. Do them like three times and the next day it can facilitate some relief (these poses compress/release parts of the colon), but I think a full on class has helped me more so far. I used to go to yoga to stay in shape, and now...I go so I can go. lol.
@libbberty I used to practice ashtanga regularly but have been away from it for about two years due to some vertigo issues. I just started getting back into yoga before I got my BFP but haven't been since then - I've been so paranoid about having another loss, and I can't stop thinking about my old ashtanga teacher saying not to practice at all during first tri. But I might try a little gentle stretching at home.
Guys, I just want to poop. I can handle the exhaustion (ha ok I can barely function), the sore boobs have mostly gone away, nausea so far has been pretty mild and goes away if I drink ice water so it's tough to complain too much, overall I'm not interested in eating much but that's short lived I'm sure, I'm bloated but I'm pretty sure that goes back to the fact I haven't been able to take a normal poo in what feels like FOREVER.
@remindmeofthebabe I hear you. I usually do Bikram, which I'll be avoiding all of pregnancy. I'm now just doing beginner vinyasa classes with several modifications and my doctor was very encouraging about it given my personal situation and history, but I'm also paranoid about loss as a PGAL so I probably take it almost too easy. Either way it helps me with stress relief and digestive stuff. I hope stretching gets things moving for you! I also take a probiotic. I swore that helped during my first pregnancy but this time, I'm not necessarily seeing the effects. Not sure if you take one or not.
@libbberty I'm going to talk to my RE this Friday and will see what she says about types of exercise and timeline. I haven't been taking a probiotic but I've been eating yogurt regularly. I've never had digestive issues before so this is all new to me, but I'll taken any symptoms if it means things are going well in there.
Nausea is still strong, but this bloat is unreal. I can't believe how pregnant I look already, and this isn't even baby! The cramping is finally starting to subside though which is nice.
The following smells have all sent me running/gagging/dry heaving:
- Coffee brewing - hand sanitizer (one of my employees had just used it and I almost barfed right there) - beer - permanent marker - lemon-scented chlorox wipes
Sigh. What smells have you guys found really set you off?
The good news is my diarrhea has gotten a bit better - I stopped taking my prenatal for a few nights and am switching brands. I took a multivitamin and added folic acid. Now going to try to switch brands. Too bad these things are so insanely expensive!
@tzeg - I should have read your post before I posted. I think my prenatal vitamins were causing a lot of GI problems for me too. I stopped taking them for a few days (took a women's multi and some extra folic acid). I take extra vitamin D too - my nightly pill taking has me feeling like an old lady!
I hear you on the dreams too - I've had some really dark, awful dreams lately.
The other day I got the strongest craving for tomatoes. I bought two giant cans of crushed tomatoes to make sauce and I've eaten a ton of salsa this weekend. I also bought a giant bottle of v8 tomato juice because it sounds amazing...Not sure why, lol. I had really strong cravings my entire pregnancy with DD too so I'm like oh great here we go again.
I'm also experiencing the abdominal tightness and stretching feeling/cramping, and not too much nausea yet, only if I wait too long between meals.
@mcrosie yes omg the smells! I work near the headquarters/factory of McCormick spices... If the wind is strong enough the entire area smells like cinnamon some days... the other day they were making lemon pepper.
@KatieEl I was pretty sure I was dying of nausea for the past three hours. My mom had nausea the same for all of her pregnancies, but she said the pregnancies where she already had kids running around seemed worse.
So I put Moana on repeat and faded in and out of awake on the couch while the toddler snuggled me and kissed me. If I hadn't been afraid I was going to puke all over him, it would have been cute. Of course today is the day I received my BFP and a big bout of nausea. I had some moments last week but none like what I know is coming. DH had to go into work today for a few hours so I'm in survival mode. He has long days this week which means ten hours of entertaining the toddler and trying to not die.
So so basically I have all.the.nausea, just like the last time. And I am exhausted. I just can't wait for the bloat baby to show up next. Ha. Ha. Ha.
@MrsDorkCharming yes. Insomnia this am at 4 was the reason I POAS in the first place. I had it really bad with my first in the first trimester too. I'm exhausted by dinner time and then randomly wake up and can't sleep.
@tzeg You might ask your doctor for a recommendation for prenatals with less iron in them? I switched last pregnancy because there was so much iron in the one they wanted me to take that it made me feel so much worse. Maybe that's why you dread them?
@mcrosie just all the toddler smells. Like DH didn't take the trash out ((with diapers)) two days ago when I asked ((because the smell made me gag--should've guessed I was pregnant then)) and today I had to leave the room when he opened the lid. It's not a small room.
I'm unhappy that the constipation has already started. Seriously?! I'm not even nauseated yet! I can deal with the hot flashes, uncontrollable cravings for ice and frozen treats, restless legs, and exhaustion. But pleeeeeeease, not the constipation!
I've heard a recommendation from my recently pregnant cousin, that extra magnesium got her through the constipation. She checked with her doctor first of course but found a sprinkle version at a health food store and used it daily.
