@msstephanielynnSo sorry for your losses lately! I get your aggravation, my dr wanted to have tests done at first too. In hind-sight, I wish I had just gone to the RE right away and got everything started. My OB was sending me to a fertility place for HSG and tests anyways and felt they could have figured things out so much quicker since that's their specialty. I say do what your gut tells you, esp if you feel like there's more than can be done sooner.

@notamyrtle 8 is actually pretty average (trust me, I did my research!). We were told we'd get 12-14 at retrieval and ended up with 8. I was crushed, but we had 7 mature and 6 fertilized. We ended up with 3 on transfer day. we transferred the two best embryos and ****TW***** are now 10 weeks pregnant with one of those embryos. Our 3rd embryo degenerated the day after transfer. ****end TW****

It seems like most of the time women who have 20+ retrieved end up with maybe 4 to freeze or transfer (I have several friends that ended up with only 2 normal embryos after 20+ at retrieval) so I really think it's often quality over quantity that does the trick. Hang in there! I know how it feels to expect more, but 8 really isn't but bad :)

*TW* Just got my latest Beta back and the number fell so we are officially out.  I'm so frustrated that it's my 4th miscarriage since July. I'm starting to feel like it's never going to happen and I'm not sure how to handle that.  Cherry on top the lady taking my blood this morning was like have a great Mothers Day. I wanted to yell at her you work in a fertility clinic perhaps saying have a good Sunday is more appropriate. Ass.

@Worldtravler0522 I'm so sorry that is a terrible thing to say at a fertility clinic. She should be more aware. 10 minutes after finding out about my impending loss the lady who took my blood was all like oh what a beautiful day, how are you? Have a wonderful afternoon the weather is so great...blah, blah, blah. I was just trying not to burst into tears the whole time.

@worldtravler0522 I'm so sorry. I'll be thinking of you. Not that it will make anything better, but my blood draw lady said "oh well CP's are so common, that's why you shouldn't be testing so early" Oh ok, screw off lady! Sometimes people have no compassion or understanding.

@msstephanielynn are you kidding me?! I can't believe some people's nerve. It's like look lady, if you've been waiting months or years for a BFP you'd be wanting to test early too. Screw off. I just wish people wouldn't say anything if they don't know what to say.

@moofish2364 I think that I can push some compassion to people that have no experience with infertility, but a medical professional - I feel like that should be part of their training, esp in an IF clinic!!!

@MooFish2364 I don't know if it's will power as much as it is just being frustrated with seeing a BFN every month for nearly 2 years :| And when I test early I keep telling myself maybe tomorrow it will be positive, maybe tomorrow and then end up taking numerous tests and making myself feel bad. I'm sure a lot of us do this to ourselves.

@hoffmanr7 Im sorry about your BFN. I also don't feel overly hopeful and I have a concerned friend who keeps asking me if I'm having any symptoms which is nice but just a reminder that nope, no I'm not having any symptoms. And nothing is pointing to this being a BFP cycle.

@Worldtravler0522  Ugh, I am so sorry for the loss and for your long journey. And that's ridiculous about what that phlebotomist said - like seriously, some people are incapable of putting two and two together.

@PoeMasque - Thanks so much for your input. I actually thought of you after hearing that I got only 8. I was really crushed after my ER on Thursday. Part of it was that my estradiol was ~5000 and so I thought I'd clear 10 eggs, easily. But nothing in IF goes as expected. I'm really happy for your success - like you said, quantity isn't everything.  Did you end up doing ICSI? I can't recall...

So I finally summoned up the courage to look at my fertilization report. Of 8 eggs, 7 were mature and 4 fertilized normally (we didn't do ICSI - maybe next time we will given our small egg hauls). Tomorrow we'll find out if any survived to day 5. It's been a nerve-wracking day.

After one of my losses the whole RE's office was awkward and didn't know how to talk to me. I was young so they all made comments about how this would be so easy for me and they weren't worried so when I lost the first pregnancy they just kept saying sorry and looked at me like i was abnormal. Ugh the medical profession can be so socially awkward.

@notamyrtle oh man, I remember those days waiting for the day 5 call....hardest wait of our whole journey, hang in there! We did ICSI, my SO's sperm had some issues with antibodies being stuck on them (something to do with being exposed to his blood and it thinking the sperm were foreign) so they said we would have had lower fertilization rates without it, but that once the sperm was injected into the egg the antibodies wouldn't hinder anything....kind of fascinating because we'd had four SAs prior to that where no one said anything about this whole issue.

Did my retest today....I have really begun to dislike peeing on sticks.  It used to be so fun.  Anyways, as I expected another BFN.  DH asked if I had gotten AF yet and when I said no, he said "So there's still a chance".  I tried to explain to him that the progesterone usually makes me start later.  The ever optimist.  He thinks I'm too negative, but I call it being realistic.  Plus, I don't think he really understands just how hard it is every time I let myself hope and then get disappointed.

I'm so sick of this whole process and am starting to loose hope.  I just don't see how we can have 3 huge follicles and have nothing come of it.  I'm starting to feel like we will never get pregnant.

Between that and some frustrations at work, I am a bit of a wreck.  I need a good cry and a stiff drink...but that will have to wait for later this evening.

    Pity party over.

Ugh @hoffmanr7 I feel like I could've written your exact post. My husband tells me I can't keep being so negative and after every BFN He'll say to me "I guess we'll just have to wait and see"....well with a BFN at 16dpiui there's only one thing we're waiting for. @hoffmanr7 I'm so sorry about the BFN.  I completely understand where you're coming from.  Just the other day I was thinking, "I'll never be pregnant.  That's not a thing that will ever happen for me.  Will never see that double line.  How do people even get pregnant in the first place?  Doesn't seem possible."  Seriously, how is it that you can create a perfect environment, provide multiple targets (follicles), literally put the sperm at the gates, and millions of sperm STILL can't hit them?  It's amazing we've lasted this long as a species.

@SoonToBeMommaHowe and @hoffmanr7 : So sorry about the BFNs. That is hugely frustrating. :(

@Bababatty, I've had the same thought... how can human reproduction be THIS inefficient and there are 7 (or 8?) billion of us?  Arghghgh.

Regarding DH Polyannas, my husband literally doesn't believe it when I tell him I got my period. He's always like, "it's too early... that could be implantation bleeding". Always pisses me off - I'm like, dude, are YOU the one who's been menstruating 20+ years??
