@ElizabethSchuyler  Your gifs are always amazing.

I'm pretty excited to see how this plays out.  I can't see any outcome other than impeachment although I'm convinced a Pence presidency might be worse.

  • @av2323 so much yes to the Pence comment. I'm scared of him. He smiles while he basically sentences people to death.

  • When I expressed that I thought Pence was worse, my cousin said "At least he's a politician." I've been holding onto that. He won't get into a spitting match with Kim Jong Un via Twitter. He doesn't tweet incessantly at 4am on the toilet. Maybe he won't take weekend vacations either and waste taxpayer money.

But everything else. Help us all.

  • Slightly off topic?

I'm generally more pro vasectomy than tubal ligation, but I keep kicking around the idea of tubal ligation if I have a C-section in hopes that it would nullify my preexisisting "condition" that may come into law.

@ElizabethSchuyler that's actually a really good way to look at it. He might be ridiculous but he's a manageable and predictable kind of ridiculous. Even if he does remind me of a villain in action movie.
  • @BayCamp And I'll just keep donating to the ACLU if he thinks he's going to step on anyone's rights.

  • @alparodi omg I cracked up reading about that. It literally sounded like an Onion article, not real life. Who TF is running this country??

  • @BayCamp And I'll just keep donating to the ACLU if he thinks he's going to step on anyone's rights.
This all gives me a teeny shred of hope when it comes to Pence. I feel like he's much more likely to hold the country in place than actively be able to (or in some cases having the interest to) take us backwards. Meanwhile I worry about trump taking us backwards, and more importantly, starting dangerous military situations.
... he's going to end up getting impeached, right??!

  • @elizabethschuyler thanks!  Will it actually force it?  I've been trying to figure out what would FORCE the issue.  It's absolutely ridiculous that congress won't do it.  I would think enough people want it to happen...and I can't see how only a few people in the Senate have the power to stop that.  I thought I knew enough about how government works but it's been throwing me for a loop lately.

  • *TW* My son starts school this fall and I am terrified. I really want to home school him as the bullying by kids are getting worse each year. It's not like when I was a kid and you can go home to escape it. With all of the social media apps out there, it's impossible to escape it. Even worse, because of all of this bullying, it seems like more and more kids are committing sucide. I just read about an 8 year old boy who killed himself after he was bullied. EIGHT YEARS OLD. Kids that age should not have anything to worry about. */TW*

  • TLDR any of this thread (mainly because politics bother me) but I have to mention the Olsen twins. Kind of off topic (I think) but oh well. Those pictures of them that have been circulating around the internet are just plain awful. Whether it be anorexia, drugs, or anything else - there is NO need to comment on their physical appearance. It's no ones business but theirs. Leave it alone. Let them be.
  • I'm reviving this because of the Washington Post article I just read. Trump gave highly classified intelligence information on ISIS to Russia in the meeting they had last week. It's intel we received through an ally with someone close to the inner workings of ISIS and Trump was bragging about the "great intel" he gets everyday, and then shared this info - including which city the ally collected the information in. This could seriously jeopardize our ability to collect further intel on ISIS and our relationship with this ally. Even scarier is the statement in the article that Trump doesn't realize the consequences of his blabber mouth. All I can think is "WTF?!?". This could put many American lives in danger, but by all means, let's continue to pursue a travel ban on six countries that have never sent us citizens that carried out a terrorist attack here. And let's not forget about all the "lock her up" chants about Hillary's emails because she may have had some confidential information on a private server, none of which was determined to be as egregious as this. WTF, guys, WTF? None of this computes for me logically.

  • @RiverSong15 Pence is looking better and better. Evil and awful in his own way but at least we wouldn't have an oversized toddler embarrassing the country on a daily basis. Checks and balances still mean something right?

  • He's so incompetent.

  • Between everything going on with how I'm feeling (including these ridiculous emotional swings), some (DH) job related stress, and the political atmosphere, I have just hit my limit. I'm going to have to start limiting my political intake because this kind of insanity and instability makes me so horribly anxious. And the hypocrisy makes me physically angry. I want to be aware and involved but something has to give here or I'm going to lose it.

  • McConnell is an idiot and I'm trying to figure out what Trump or the GOP have on him that's causing him to be such a p*ssy.  He's downplaying literally everything.  It makes no sense.  There are plenty in the GOP that ARE having an issue with this stuff, but he's ignoring it.  I don't get it...someone owns these people

  • @ArtificialRed I never realized before that I had the privilege of not caring. It's impossible to take a break because it's everywhere. Obviously I'm not upset ALL the time and enjoy my life and friends and family but I do feel like I carve out some time every week to be upset about stuff. How can I not? I miss not having to care.

@mariposa_767s money and power. They are pathetic spineless POS.

  • @mariposa_767s McConnell is a dinosaur senator who has been there too long with no priorities but himself. I do not understand why people keep voting for him. He is the perfect representation of why I'm against career politicians.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge you're right, it's absolutely a privilege to be able to step back from it. Honestly, I'm not being very affected by anything yet. I do fear for the future and worry about my child(ren) but I'm very lucky my day to day can continue on as it has been. Thank you for the reminder.

  • I listened to a news report (podcast? idk the term for it) that talked about how the US is the deadliest developed country for women giving birth. Our death rate for women who die giving birth is three times greater than Canada and six times greater than Scandinavia. And it's all due to preventable things like pre-e, but doctors here don't listen to and observe patients as much as in other countries and part of that is because of how our healthcare is set up. And now, if ACA is repealed with something else, any woman with something like pre-e will be considered having a pre-existing condition. We are in the "greatest country in the world" in the year 2017. This should not be happening.

  • av2323av2323 member
@DuchessOfCambridge  I read that article and it scared me to the core.   I developed extremely high blood pressure during and immediately following birth.  My hospital was attentive and had me on the appropriate medicines to prevent seizure and stroke but what if they hadn't?  It is absolutely nuts to call the United States the greatest country in the world when we can't even properly take care of our citizens.
  • @av2323 totally agree...it's hard for me to read articles like that because it's such a scary reality.  SO was listening to NPR talk about that.  They went into different stories about different moms and I had to ask him to turn it off.  There are way too many what ifs and not much support here.

  • I found it extra interesting because we always go on about how national healthcare is not as good as private because you have to wait longer for appointments and you're not paid attention as much and yet, we are the country with the highest maternal death rate because doctors aren't paying attention to patients.

  • I'm really encouraged about the news of a special investigation. I'm scared shitless about the line of succession.

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @elizabethschuyler totally second the mental health aspect.  Often we don't know we're having trouble while we're having it because we're in such a haze.  I didn't classify as pre-e but had all the markers.  My blood pressure is normally really low, so I may have had it but didn't register on the scale.  My OB had me participate in a study where they drew blood at pre-determined points during the end of pregnancy that would help them understand more markers for pre-e and how to better detect it.  I hope they can learn more about these things.  I think it's tough to have a one size fits all scale to diagnose people because we're all different.  One can have it, but not fit in their box.

  • @sweetmelissa4 I hope it goes quick.  I'm so tired of knowing but not knowing.  It drives me nuts.  It's been long enough already.  I also hope that the investigation knocks out quite a few people in succession.

  • @ElizabethSchuyler you're right, I used the wrong word. I meant treatable, not preventable. They brought up the example that Sybil in Downton Abbey died of pre-e in the 1920s and that's just something that shouldn't be happening now. It barely happens anywhere but the US (in terms of developed countries). The US rate is still low, of course, but higher than it should be. So much yes about the mental health stuff. I'm hoping DH will notice symptoms even if I don't - I've never been depressed before but have dealt with really high levels of stress and anxiety so I could see myself just writing it off. Won't know til i get there.

@SweetMelissa4 everything is so scary. I'm back to Pence not being a better option. Yes he's a politician, but he's terrifying in his own way. People would stop being as outraged as they are with Trump because he would be less ridiculous and just much quieter with everything he did. Like you said, definitely hope it knocks out a bunch of people in line. Honestly, if your party's president fails, I feel like we shouldn't just keep continuing on in that party.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge Especially if during the course of the investigation they find that it influenced the election. The election should be reheld or 2nd place (HRC, so really first in popular vote) should go in. I'm no constitutional expert, but I still really doubt either of those options would happen and have a feeling they'd go down the line of succession until someone was found to not be complicit in all this. Our electoral college failed at the one thing they were put in place to prevent, and I'm just rather ashamed of our country right now.

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @SweetMelissa4 I hate the electoral college system. It makes no sense to me. I hated it before the election, I hated it after, and I still would have hated it even if Hillary got the electoral vote and not the popular vote. I understand we have some core foundations in this country but we also need to be able to adapt to the current time we live in and reassess if a system in place makes sense.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I wouldn't mind it if it functioned the way it is supposed to. Unless the popular vote is wayyy out of line and detrimental to our future as a country, they should go with it. They are supposed to be a fail safe, not a decider/influencer. The fact that they went AGAINST the popular vote to vote in someone so clearly ill-suited for the job shows that they have become obsolete.

On topic but also off topic: do people really think that Tim Allen sitcom was canceled because of the main characters conservative values? I mean REALLY? My MIL went on a long tirade about it and I had to walk through it logically with her until she would finally listen to another viewpoint. But I keep seeing things pop up on Facebook about it. Honestly, I watch several shows on ABC and he never seen it advertised. I was vaguely aware that he had a show but couldn't tell you the name or network.
  • @baycamp I didn't even know he had a show and, from seeing the things ABC plans to do, I feel like they just may be trying to go a more reality/competition show route.

Lilypie Maternity tickers Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @BayCamp that's interesting. It depends on what was meant by conservative values. There are many conservative values that I think are perfectly fine, and many that I understand are driven by religion. And then there are the Trump values. The issue I personally have with a lot of Trump voters is that sure there is a possibility they may not be racist themselves, but racism and bigotry wasn't a dealbreaker. I also hate when the term "politically correct" is used as a negative when all it really means is "Hey, we realize now that these things being said about (generally groups other than white straight men) are offensive and we shouldn't say them because it's rude as heck".  So, if this show was going on about racially insensitive things and bashing "PC" then I could see why that would be cancelled. We have freedom of speech but we don't need to ridicule and make a large portion of our population uncomfortable just because of it. If it was lesser stuff then I think it's dumb.

If it was due to ratings then seriously whatever. I didn't even know this show existed lol

  • BayCampBayCamp member
@DuchessOfCambridge that's a really good point. I think it's definitely more Trump Values than conservative values. From what my MIL said the show took a hard current republican stance, talking about Hillary and Benghazi, etc. Past that she really couldn't tell me what was funny about the show. My in-laws are hardcore Trump supporters, Fox News only watchers, and honestly more than a little racist,  and frequently bring up politics to me even though they know where I stand on issues. It was actually a prerequisite for thanksgiving that politics were off the table regardless of the election outcome or I wasn't coming.

@mariposa_767s the president of ABC said pretty much just that. They were going a different route with their lineup.

I'm sure the show will get picked up elsewhere but for now it's become a Trump supporter rally point (distracting from bigger issues much?) and it's irritating the crap out of me.
