Eva will be 3 in July

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now? Eva is already adamant that she will be getting a little sister. She clearly states that she does NOT want a brother. Lol. I am looking forward to finding out what we are having and seeing what the reaction will be. So, sort of a concern but also curiosity.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: Eva constantly wants to "hug my baby" which means she snuggles up to me and talks into my stomach. I really hope this continues. It is SO CUTE.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions: I've been wearing looser clothing and I worry that I already look pregnant. At least my clothing does. Ugh.

GTKY: Do you have a special talent? I can say the alphabet faster backwards than I can forwards.

    E is 10.5 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  She is crazy constipated this week :( Pears aren't working, prunces are next on the list. She's never been this bad before and I hate watching her cry and strain.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: She is so close to taking her first step! She can't stand on her own quite yet, but when she cruises along furniture she's starting to be more adventurous and lets go.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions: I'm already starting to look pregnant. The bloat is real. I don't think my belly was this big until closer to 12 weeks the first time.

GTKY: Do you have a special talent? I make a mean wookie impression.

@missblaze that is too cute! I wish DD was old enough to understand what's going on.

    DD is 16 months old.
Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
This is an unexpected pregnancy (unexpected by definitely welcome), so I'm still dealing with some emotions associated with that. I didn't want my kids to be only two years apart (and they will be...pretty much on the dot). I wanted at least three years between my kiddos, so I'm nervous that handling two children two and under is going to destroy me. Plus, I work full time, and the balancing act is already difficult. I can't imagine throwing another kid into the mix!
Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM
Seeing my DD with a baby. She LOVES babies, so I'm excited to see how she does with one of her own.
    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
Why is all the healthy food already starting to give me the gags?? It's too early!
GTKY: Do you have a special talent?
I'm really good at hair and makeup. That sounds really conceited...but hey, I'll own it!

    DS is 3

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  I am so, so worried about potty training or sleep regressions due to a new baby. Potty training is already enough of a struggle. I hope we can get it all figured out well before the new baby comes.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: I can't wait to hold a new baby, get to know their personality, and see DS be a big brother.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions: Last time, I barfed every day, 1-3 times a day, from around week 7-week 20. I don't want to do that again, especially now that I'm employed full time. How do people vomit while on a conference call or in a meeting?

GTKY: Do you have a special talent? I can touch my tongue to my nose. I know. Be jealous. =D

@SouthernMs, I feel you on the barfing in the middle of work thing! My MS started at about 6 weeks last time, and I threw up until about 18 weeks. I would be in the middle of teaching a class when it would hit. Thankfully, I was always able to make it to my office so my students never saw, but it was always hard to pause class, just to run to the office. I kept it cool though. Something along the lines of, "okay, turn to your table partner and discuss what we were just talking about." Then, I would quickly get to my office, close the door, and let 'er rip!

I was informed yesterday that he "doesn't like babies anymore" and that's he's "not even going to say hi to them anymore".

I can't wait to eventually tell him. This secret is harder to keep than when we went to Disney World!

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
Holy crap my kid is annoying today. So much talking. So many questions. So much sass. It's barely noon and I'm totally touched out. If I ask for space he gets all moody.

GTKY: Do you have a special talent?
I used to be able to play piano? I probably could still do so if I had the time.

@missblaze I love that your DD is already bonding with her new sib! Can't tell my kid until we're ready to tell the world, or he'll do it for us.

@schaze I feel ya on the bloat. Thank goodness I'm plus sized, or else everyone would already know!

@cyanope Two under two isn't all that bad! They'll be best friends! My sister has 3, all 2 years apart or less. You'll figure it out!

@SouthernMs I didn't even consider a sleep regression. The premise is terrifying. We just got my DS sleeping TTN in his own bed. I can't go back!

    L is 2.5

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  I am team crib for life, so I'm anxious about transitioning DD to a bed. We'll be tackling that come this summer when school is out but I'm afraid that being pregnant and sleep deprived will be a bad combination. I'm also not sure when to tell DD that we're expecting. I know once we do, she will share with EVERYONE, so I guess we'll have to wait until we're ready for the world to know.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: DD loves babies so the thought of her having a baby brother or sister makes me smile.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions: Currently trying to be proactive in thinking about maternity leave. DD is in daycare full time and will be starting the preschool at her daycare in September. I'm trying to figure out if/how much to send her when I am on maternity leave with this nugget. We would have the option to pull her all together, or send her 2, 3, or 4 days a week. Anyone else going to have to make that decision?

GTKY: Do you have a special talent? Nada.

You're a saint, @crizz13! I can't do elementary school. I student taught 6th grade, and even that was too young for me! Kids are too needy. Haha...does that make me sound like a horrible person? I like my high school kiddos. Although, I probably deal with a LOT more defiance/attitude at this age, so I guess we all have our challenges, no matter the age.

    9/7 (tomorrow)/ 3

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?    I have one child who has ADHD/Processing disorder/ODD and it makes me nervous bringing in a new face into our house, when his meltdowns are somewhat severe.  They have gotten better, but I am still nervous.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM:   My middle child (the one who has ADHD etc) got first in Backstroke and second in Freestyle this past weekend during a meet that was horrible. Cold and rainy with wind.  There were a ton of kids crying (mine included).  He stuck it out and did his personal best in freestyle.  I am so very proud of him.  He could have given up but he didn't.   This same child is turning 7 tomorrow and I cannot believe how fast 7 years have been.  He is getting so big and I cannot wait to celebrate with him tomorrow.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:   Rants right now.  Doctor's office didn't make the HCG blood test stat so the results haven't been done or processed and I am supposed to be going in for my second beta today, without the results from yesterday.

GTKY: Do you have a special talent?  I don't think so.  At least not one that I could think of.
  • @mamakassie2 Oh yes, we hadn't planned on telling her but she overheard a conversation we were having and she's very observant. She's already told some family and a random stranger in Costco. I have a good sense of humor about it lol

  • @cyanope this pregnancy is also unexpected. We weren't going to start TTC until this summer, so this just speeds things along a little! I'm still trying to let things sink in. Maybe once the m/s hits it'll feel more real?

@SouthernMs oh man.. I didn't even think of sleep regression once baby is here. We already sleep like crap as it is, and I had hopes DD would be STTN by the time this one is born. Maybe I need to reevaluate my expectations!
  • rissa06rissa06 member
@cyanope my second child was very unexpected and he and my daughter are just more then 2 years apart in age.  2 years 3 months to be exact.  She was still in diapers at the time and I remember when DS was 4 days old and I was changing two kids diapers at that point in time, thinking it is time for my daughter to be potty trained and we sped up the process.  She was day time trained a week later.  I guess she was ready.

@crizz13 I was just accepted into a masters program for teaching so I will have to student teach in a few months.  I am really nervous, because depending on when that starts, I could very well have a newborn.  I wanted to teach 6th grade.  lol!  I didn't want to teach the little ones for the same reasons.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
I will be starting grad school for my ARNP this fall so I'm wondering how well I'll be able to manage studying, a newborn, and a 3 year old-- all while continuing to work full time. Good vibes welcome!
Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM
I love watching my daughter interact with people and I can't help but feel a sense of pride at how outgoing and confident she is. She has also  been asking to become a big sister for close to a year now. I adore that she is able to somewhat grasp what is happening, at first I was stressed about a longer age gap than I initially wanted, but I enjoy her being a part of our baby's journey (or HER baby, as she calls it)
    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
I'm super hormonal right now-- at times I'm weepy & others short-fused. I go from starving to full, and back to starving in a couple hours time which makes my work days (I'm a nurse) a stop and go snack session.
GTKY: Do you have a special talent?
Outside of nursing and parenting? I can sleep A LOT!

I'm sorry, I laughed so hard at this. Your son is salty.

Didn't mean to freak everyone out by mentioning sleep regression...just something I noticed with a close friend of mine. Her older kid wanted more attention and more snuggles when baby came, and he totally ditched the nap and started staying up later and waking up for cuddles a couple times. Fingers crossed it's not a common thing.

@rissa06, the two in diapers is definitely a concern for me! I just told my husband a few weeks ago that we're going to be potty training DD as EARLY as possible.

@schaze, I'm glad I'm not the only one with an unexpected pregnancy. I have seriously always side-eyed married couples who get pregnant on accident. I mean, how hard is it to prevent a pregnancy? But, here I am. KU and freaking out! We were planning on starting to try NEXT summer. *TW, also I want to mention that I don't want to diminish the feelings of those who have struggled with infertility and loss by cracking jokes about my pregnancy. I have been on the other end of this spectrum too, so I've experienced those emotions as well. But these ones (experiencing terror at the thought of another newborn) are very real as well.  Just totally different.

Almost 16 months. She will be 2 almost exactly when this baby is due.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  Sleep deprivation! It has been sooo hard these last 16 months. I'm kinda freaked out how it's all going to go with another baby in the mix. I'm also concerned about potty training DD. When do I do it? Won't it be super hard to do when I have a newborn? But before age 2 seems a little young.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: DD loves babies (she hugs them) so I'm so excited to see them together.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions: I never lost the baby weight from DD so I'm super bummed that I'm going to be gaining more weight soon.

My biggest concern is sleep when the baby comes, DS is already not the greatest sleeper.. And then theres potty training! He's been showing interest and actively going on the potty but I wasn't planning on training him so soon.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM
I'm so excited to be pregnant again and to grow our little family.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
