@kvruns LO is 21 weeks and we haven't even started and I don't plan too until mid May at the earliest. We have some vacations and I don't want to start before then.
We're at almost 25 weeks and still no solids (other than the tiny taste of hummus a couple weeks ago). She doesn't need it yet nutritionally and we're in no rush. She has showed a little interest, but not consistently. I figured we'll start getting serious about it in a week or two when she's officially 6 months.
Doing BLW and started introducing a couple things to M. Let him suck on a cantaloupe and a honey dew (with me holding on). Today gave him a rice cracker. I watched him gag at one point. I don't know if I have it in me to do it. Anyone else overcome this or trying to currently? I'm debating giving up.

I wish I could say, I've done it, but it freaks me out that they can just suck that food right out of their hands and into the back of their mouths. You're a stronger woman than I.
@kristah2 I was trying to learn more about BLW a week or two ago, so I watched some YouTube videos about it and some videos of parents doing it. In several of the videos people talked about how you should be infant CPR certified because of the risk of choking, then in one of the videos the parents gave a baby a big hunk of chicken and he kept gagging and they were just like, "Ok, he's still breathing. Yep, he's not blue, air's still getting in." And I instantly closed it and was like NOPE. My anxiety level is already way too high for that sh*t. I did purees with DS before I'd even heard of BLW and he is a great eater, so I'm going that route again. More power to the people who are doing BLW; it's just definitely not for me
Wow! Choking already freaks me out because our oldest did choke on a dumb dumb when she was almost 3. The ball fell off the stick and my husband I could hear was telling her to keep it in her cheek. I was doing dishes and had I known the candy had fallen off it would've been in the trash. I don't know what DH was thinking there. Well sure enough within 30 seconds that sucker was down her throat. The back blows didn't work and I did what your not supposed to do, I stuck my finger in her throat and popped it right out. I remember how I felt her larynx still to this day. Stupid move, but it ended up saving her life. After that, there's no way I'll try BLW with the baby. It's just not for me.
I'm pretty good about giving S 2 solids per day (breakfast and lunch). But I struggle with dinner especially on the days I work. How late or how close to bedtime are you giving solids? I don't get home until 5:30 and I normally nurse her right before bed around 6:30 so she's already sleepy at that point. Should I just give her some when I get home without BFing her first?
We also tried solids for the first time today! Green beans (thanks Gerber!) He didn't make any funny faces, and he's still definitely getting used to swallowing. But he seems to like it!
@Ladybug2821 - I'm in the same dilemma. DH and I both work full time and she just isn't interested in eating in the evening. We haven't been good about trying to make up for it during the weekends, so she's barely had any food at all.

It's my understanding that after the 6 mo mark you can start to let solids slowly replace some milk feedings, but very slowly. So you probably could try it every few days but BM should be her primary nutrition still. With our first we did lunch and dinner only for a while and didn't start integrating breakfast solids until a few months later.

Don't feel bad, if it weren't for daycare feeding him 2x per day he would have 0 solids because I just don't have the time or, when I do have some time, motivation
This morning I gave A half a pouch of apples and bananas, after nursing her about a half hour earlier. She didn't seem to have much interest but I gave her some anyway. I took her upstairs with me while I got dressed and she promptly threw up all over me (of course, after I was dressed). She's eaten bananas before and been fine. Do you think it could be an apple allergy or just that I laid her down too soon after eating?

It might have been too much food or not enough actually made into her stomach so when she laid down it had nowhere else to go. Allergies usually take form as rashes or bowel movements or (god forbid) throat swelling.
@Ladybug2821 My LO gets breakfast which consists of half an egg omelet (a pinch of cheese, pepper, breast milk, and 2 cherry tomatos) and one ice cube of fruit. I'll also give her 3-4 raspberries because she LOVES them! She typically eats this 1 hour after nursing.
For dinner I nurse her at 5 and she eats between 6-6;15 and I nurse her again between 7-7;30 for the night. She loves to eat so for dinner she gets whatever meat we are eating (cut into small pieces) and 3 ice cubes of veggies/fruit purees.
@kristah2 BLW scares me! We are doing just whatever I think she is ready for haha. I held her off on solids until 6 months although she was ready for them by about 4.5 months. I started with just purées that I make myself but I never made them super runny. She prefers them to have texture and she chews them. She does great with eggs and meat! She'll feed herself (they are in small bites) and will sometimes put 3-4 pieces in her mouth at once and does fine. She's never gagged (knock on wood). I have also given her sweet potato "fries" and she does great with those as well. Girl will literally eat anything!
Most of the time purees are frowned upon because they swallow and not chew but like I said, my LO chews them and they are thick.
@kvruns I take her morning cube out the night before and put it in a container in the fridge so it's thawed out when she needs it. Whenever I get home from work I'll get her dinner ones out and put them in a baby bowl. I'll either let it sit out for an hour or fill a warm bowl of water in the sink and let it float on top. I try not to microwave them.
My mom keeps bugging me about solids, asking if I've given him this or that and I always say ehh I let daycare do it I'm too lazy. And she's like cmon KV you should do it. So yesterday when I visited them I brought a single pack of oatmeal, formula to mix, a spoon and handed it to them and said have at it
B was fussing while we ate so I had him in my lap and he watched me like a hawk when I took a bite. Decided to put some mashed potatoes on my finger to see if he would eat and he did. His eyes lit up with more and he would grab my hand and bring it to his mouth for each bite. Guess he's ready for food now!
I never would have thought that introducing solids to E would be hard, but it's turning out to be. I don't want daycare to be introducing food first, I want to be there, but I'm so limited on the time I have at home with her since I work full time and I can't seem to find that perfect time to feed her when she'll actually be interested. I've gotten her to sit and work on picking up food, but she isn't interested in eating it at all, even if I'm the one putting it in her mouth. She's 29 weeks today and has hardly had any food. I'm feeling like a bad parent and that I'm screwing her up for life by not getting her eating different foods now. Totally dramatic, but there it is.
@lajoliedreamer not a bad mom but the mom guilt is real. I had a public health nurse lecture me hard today for not starting with proteins and freak out because according to her iron drops at 6 months so they need protein high in iron immediately. People need to stop laying on the guilt.
@lajoliedreamer Nick won't eat anything but oatmeal. I've tried apples peaches pears prunes green beans peas sweet potato and carrots. He gags like I'm trying to kill him and then chokes and then screams until I take him out of the chair.. but give him some nasty ass oatmeal and he is DIVING for the spoon. Wtf...
@lajoliedreamer There is no perfect time and there is no bad mom (at least in this group). Be kind to yourself. And if that means daycare gives LO solids at lunch, so be it. You can always do another meal or a different day.
Its it's hard to let go of the mom guilt. I battle it every day.
@SandNStarsNJ - I think I needed someone to give me permission to ask daycare to help. I know they always do fruit as part of breakfast for the older babies so maybe I'll ask them to put some in front of her and see how it goes.
@lajoliedreamer like you I couldn't find the time )or sometimes motivation) to feed him at home but they will there so I let them. They follow a federal food program so it is only rice cereal and oatmeal but oh well it is something
@lajoliedreamer if she's not super interested don't worry. Food before 1 is just for fun my DD took a long time to get interested in food. Just keep presenting it as an option and she will gravitate towards it when she is ready.

^^this!
we did solids for the first time on Mother's Day. At first she wasn't having it. Then the second time later in the day was a success! So far she has had butternut squash and zucchini.
