The Nesting Thread

hi ladies! Since we are all moving closer to the 3rd trimester I thought it would be good to start a nesting thread to share projects we are working on or working towards outside of nurseries.

Some discussion posts could include:
What are you hoping to accomplish before baby? What are your priorities? How are you keeping organized? Anything crafty in the works? Etc...

Re: The Nesting Thread

  • We need to clean out what will be the baby's room (aka, my husband has to because at this point it's mostly his crap). I also want to repaint our shed in the backyard--the paint is peeling.

  • This has nothing to do with baby stuff but H just started new countertops (butcher block) last weekend and we are going to do a subway tile back splash.   We also need to organize and paint our basement.   And H is going to build the kids a tree fort in June. We have lots to do.

We are ripping up all the carpet in all the bedrooms and laying down laminate. Everything is dirty and gross to me. My head is spinning with everything I want to do, so I had to make myself a list with deadlines. So lame.
  • I need DH to clean up room in the basement/man cave so I can clean out the guest room which will be the nursery. We're getting real close to nagging territory over here.
  • I told my husband that he has until the end of the school year to move his stuff, which is really generous because the school year doesn't end until June 22nd.

  • We need to purchase two twin mattress sets for my two girls so they can share a room once baby boy comes. I am dreading this because one is an awesome sleeper and one is not. I don't want to play with fire right before we add another little one to the mix. seriously considering waiting until the baby is six months old to  tackle this step. I am so torn right now on what to do because I am very type A and like to have everything done before baby gets here. Aghhhhh. stressing me out. I want him to have designated space like the other too had. wishing right bout now that we would have bought a bigger house to begin with! That would solve my unforeseeable issue, we just honestly never even considered that we would have let a lone want more than two children. If only you could go back in time:)
  • We have a painter coming sometime this month to paint the baby's room and to refinish the banisters/handrails in our hallways. We are also considering adding a built in dresser to the room as well, just waiting on a price. Oh and we need new blinds too! Always something...
  • We put together the dresser 2 weekends ago which made it very clear that the queen bed will not fit in there even for the transition period when baby is in our room and one of our parents are always staying with us. So, my dad is going to bring a twin bed from my sisters house and take the queen bed up to my other sister's house that has an empty guest room.
Then I need to buy a new rug with thick pad for baby play and mattresses for the twin frame for my mom or FIL to sleep on when they are here watching the babe.

Also, having the carpet redone in our closet and on the stairs because it is so yucky. Then will be putting anything from the nursery closet into our closet for the time being. Filing cabinet, craft supplies etc.

Once all the manual work is done, I have a car seat cover to finish sewing, but I figure that can wait until 3rd trimester when I can't move furniture anymore. :)

A friend of mine showed me this. Must be true-  We just replaced all of our kitchen cabinets last week. (And yes-- I'm using the royal "we")

    @AbbeyH that is hilarious!

We have painted our formal living room and front parlor and the new wraparound desks for the parlor (formerly the "art room", soon to be the "office") arrive on Friday.  I ordered them in mid-March so I'm super excited.

We are moving DD1 into the old office so that this baby can have her room. DH has built a closet in the eaves and put a door on the room and painted half the room. We need so many odd sized blackout shades. I bought an antique bed off Craigslist that we are going to paint torquoise and a French provincial dresser/nightstand I am going to paint eggplant. DD1 likes colors and is doing a bit of a mermaid theme. I've been prepping these, but likely DH will do the paint spraying.

The room the baby is going in was professionally redone before DD1 was born so I just need to set it up with crib/changing table when DD1 is out. I bought the land of nod vintage race car themed bedding before it sold out. DH is big into cars so I am humoring him. I feel like I'm not doing enough baby prep, but I'm guessing it has something to do with him being #3. I do need to figure out how to deep clean the co-sleeper I got off Craigslist though (it looks clean, but figure I should be thorough)!

We also have one big empty wall in our dining room that I hope to have decorated before baby comes. DH is super handy and we have a barn full of tools, but unfortunately he is constantly working/traveling. My job is to keep the kids from bugging him on days he is getting stuff done or nothing will ever happen! I will update with more pictures as projects become more complete. Hope to see others as well!!

Ugh - mobile pics still not working for me! Going to try iPad!

This time around we aren't waiting till 30 weeks to get stuff done! Last time that happened DS came out before his nursery was complete and I didn't have my hospital bag packed!

so this past weekend we got baby girl's room painted, moved the crib & changing station from DS room to the new nursery. My parents also bought her a dresser drawer and mirror for the room. My mom said it's my birthday gift lol (my bday is May 15th). All the neutral gender clothing from DS we washed, folded, and put away in the drawer. Also just received today one painting that I purchased from etsy, will have to put that up soon.

Our loft became now now our office space and we cleared everything so DS wouldn't knocked things over.  Slowly but surely getting things crossed off our list bec we are not repeating 2014! Lol

I am going full on mommy mode. Starting my parenting/ birthing classes at the hospital, getting pediatricians, looking into daycares, and organizing Landon's dresser.
  • I just deep cleaned and purged my sons room and rearranged his furniture. On a whim.
  • Clean out what will be the baby room (currently storage... so gotta find a new storage solution), steam clean the carpets, finally talk to my downstairs neighbors about smoking pot indoors (it makes our apartment reek)
  • @donehue Love it!! Looks fantastic :)

    @smallbutmighty77 that is awesome!!
  • I finally got all of my daughter's clothes separated into what she wears now vs what is too big or too small... just in time to pull out allllll of her old clothes to prepare for the twins. I have so many boxes of her infant clothes... it's ridiculous. I'm hoping to be moved into a house before the girls get here, but I don't actually see that happening. ): I've already started feeling like I'm running out of time, when in reality, I'm only 27 weeks. I'm expecting to deliver around 36 weeks due to preeclampsia, but I just wanna do everything and I can't!
  • I can't stop decluttering, throwing things away, donating, and organizing. It feels good!

Oh girl!! Me too!! Decluttering every room every weekend and it feels so good!!!!
  • OTmom3OTmom3 member
I just started decluttering the house especially our room because that's where the baby will be for now. Yesterday I rearranged my son's room, switched the side of the bed I sleep on (and moved my night table and everything on it), emptied a bookcase that I will am now putting storage bins on with baby stuff, and moved my husband's stuff that was in the area that we are setting up the "nursery". Today I moved something out of my daughter's room to declutter it a little.
I still need to buy my son a big boy bed so that we can bring the crib into our room (he's in the crib converted to toddler bed). I also need to decide if I'm getting a changing table, make my husband repaint/finish painting the baby's dresser because he missed a large area of it with paint, get some wall decor for the baby, and a rug for her part of the room. I might also get a room divider thing from Ikea.
After the dresser is done, I need to take on the huge task of going through all of my daughter's old clothes to see what we have in each size for the baby. It's in like 5 containers and not at all well organized so that should be fun.
Ahh, I feel better typing this out. Sorry I've been so MIA lately. I spend too much time on Facebook and then forget to check in here.

  • After I finished decluttering and organizing my son's room, I couldn't stop. I am going to tackle our guest room next, which is the last room I haven't touched. Also, I decided that I need new dishes and will be organizing the kitchen cabinets. I was never this bad with my son, it's such a strange feeling. Also, we finished the nursery today. My goal was 30 weeks and I finished 7 weeks early.  :#
  • I have decided that I'm going to paint the main level if my home. I have been in the house for almost 4 years and I hate the color and don't want to hang anything because I have been wanting to paint. So, it's happening!

Also so I have decluttered almost every room with n my home. Kitchen is next and will be a big task.
  • @mharper0614 I keep doing the same thing! I swear half my basement is tubs of clothing. I am having a girl after two boys, so I have had to sort through what she can wear and what I won't have here wear. (I don't mind blue on my girl but she isn't going to wear a shirt that says "little brother")
  • If I had it my way we'd move as it seems easier than fixing up and finding storage in my old house.  Right now we are working to empty the junk room (future bedroom for DH), but I freak out Everytime DH works in it because it is gross.

  • I have made lists of everything I would like to get done and I'm trying to get it done little by little. I have no motivation through the week though. I wanted to get my kitchen decluttered this weekend but I am not even close. I also want to paint and decorate my main level.
  • We are moving DS into a big boy room before baby comes, so we finally started painting today.  One coat done, one to go... furniture gets delivered next week!

I decided today that I want to redo the kids/guest bathroom.  Guess that will be my nesting project for the next few months lol.

All of a sudden I have the urge to repair our fence, start a garden, paint the exterior of the house, organize our file system, paint the baseboards, start an indoor herb garden, and buy rugs. All of which have nothing to do with the baby lol. And this comes after reorganizing the garage, putting the cat litter out there and creating a pet door!
  • Does anyone else feel like time is flying and are super excited to meet baby soon but at the same time want time to slow down so all of these projects can get done? I am so anxious to meet my guy, but there are so many things I need to do before baby or it will be a long time before I will be ready to get them done after baby.

I thought my kitchen project of decluttering, purging and organizing would be done this weekend, but I took a solid nap Saturday when DD napped. I go a lot done yesterday but I am a little off on my timeline of projects now. I literally can't stop thinking about everything I want to do and yet I want time to speed up to DDay. Oh the woes of pregnancy lol
  • Just had a weekend of MAJOR spring cleaning. Our roommate is moving out at the end of this month so I cannot do the nursery until then. In the mean time, I've been cleaning and excavating. All the closets were completely gutted, sorted, and reorganized. We actually have storage space to spare now, AND I can find everything in my linen closet.

On top of all that, we are getting rid of this massive couch that was already way too big for our quaint little living room. Also getting rid of a writing desk that we don't use. And finally, we are getting a larger shelf for DH's board games... as that collection has out-grown the shelf we started with. It is going to be nice to have my living room nice and open!

It's funny to discover that this nesting thing is actually a thing. I always thought it was just a term for getting the house ready... but it's a condition! Haha! My mom says I am a "woman possessed". I'm exhausted from all this, but it was so worth it. Everything is ready now to start the nursery at the end of the month!

  • I busted out the sewing machine today to work on a few projects. The first is a minky blanket and although it turned out nicely I am not loving the minky color. :/ It looked much more mint in the store but looks like a dull sage color in baby's nursery. The second is a fitted sheet. I plan on making several more before LO comes.

  • @BlackNYellow I'm loving those sheets! I think the green/sage color is really nice..but I agree it's not as bright as a true mint if that's what you're going for.

  • Thank you @secicc12 @donehue If you can sew a straight line on a machine you can make both of those projects! Neither was challenging but took a lot of patience which I am running quite low these days. If anyone is interested here are the tutorials I followed:
