+1 for most maternity photos I've seen look very awkward and not at all natural.
My UO: I think elaborate first birthday parties are pointless. Your kid isn't going to remember it. I understand having cake and family/close friends over, but I see some people renting out party rooms and I just don't see the point. Save it for when your child can actually remember it or can be more active with the other kids at the party.
*Side eyes* I threw a big first birthday for DD, I looked at it as the one and only party I got to throw that was totally what I wanted it to be.
That's how I look at Halloween costumes. haha. But alas, DD had her own ideas last year. 2 years old and I didn't even get to pick. We were determined to be Doc McStuffins.

@natleilynn MIL took that away from be the first Halloween and bough her an outfit, so last year was my first Halloween, she went as Madeline (PG Brain)
I got lucky that DS didn't have any idea about costumes last year so I dressed him as Harry Potter. He had to get glasses last fall and he was so stinking cute.

I love throwing big parties for DD's bday. It's just another excuse to get drunk and eat all the food (minus the drunk this year). Seriously, she has maybe 2 other kids that come (close friends' kids). She loves it, but I also do it for me.
October 2017 June Siggy Challenge -- "You Had One Job!"
i think you could classify my parties as over the top. i ain't got time for pintrest shit, but i try to make it pretty. we have relatively large families/group of friends. and we have those situations of "invite one, invite all" so parties are 50-60 people including kids. there is really no way around it unless we do family only in which case we are looking at 25, so at that point we figure just invite everyone. then you have a range of kids from newborn-12 running around my 1700 sq ft house. i normally get some type of activity like a bounce house...well until we bought a trampoline so i didnt have to rent one for every party. i dunno i like parties and i like hosting. so YOLO!
I think big parties are great for folks who just love an excuse to throw a party! I think they are dumb when people only have them because they feel pressure to keep up with the joneses or they are only doing it to show off!
I love to throw big parties. I used to be a wedding planner once upon a time, so it's just in my blood to plan things. My oldest loves looking at all the pictures from birthdays she can't remember and seeing all the details. One of the biggest reasons I wanted to do a gender reveal party is just to have an excuse to throw a party and have everyone together. Well, that and I really do want to celebrate this baby (no gifts, of course, so don't bother flaming me for being an AW)
UO: I don't understand why anyone gets in a hurry to potty train. Diapers are easy. Diapers make accidents in the car/in the store/in a restaurant a nonissue. I'm NOT looking forward to being ruled by a toddler's bladder or bowel movements.

This is a good way to look at it. My daughter just turned 3 and has no intetest in potty training. I started getting worried but you are right, diapers are much easier. It's just hard to see her younger friends potty trained already without feeling like we are doing something wrong. Thanks for the positive perspective

So true! Pre-kids I always thought I'd be potty training early to get out of diapers because gross! But diapers are soooo much easier than worrying about potty accidents.

@OliveOyl2014 It's really totally normal for them not to be potty trained at 3. DS will be 3 in July and has absolutely no interest right now. I don't feel like pushing it, especially when we are still doing the toddler bed transition.

My son turned 3 last month and has very little interest in it. We have to bribe him to sit on his potty, but he gets so excited when he goes. He just never tells us when he has to go and I get lazy. He is being less reluctant about sitting on his potty, however he refuses to wear underwear.
Now I'm getting worried about our vacation in June. What if he decides to potty train right before? Our drive is around 9 hours and I don't want to stop every hour. But I don't want him to regress. I'm sure regardless of if he's trained or not I'll just throw him in a diaper for the drive.

DD2 keeps telling me she has to go on the potty. Like a good mother I tell her no she doesn't go in diaper.
Once you are on the other side of PT it is easier without diapers. But getting there is rough. At least for us. And I don't wanna do it again. But I swear every time you go to check out at the store or dinner is brought to you at the restaurant...that is when they need to go. After a year and a half I'm just getting down making her go before we go somewhere.

Piddle pads for the car seat. Look it up on Amazon, it makes car rides way less stressful while potty training and saves your car seat from mass destruction.

I am pro all things professional photography. Except maternity pics. I hate them. They are so awkward to me. I mean in my natural habitat you will not find me in a field holding my stomach.
I am totally sitting in a flowy dress with a flower crown for this maternity shoot. Then I'm going to spam you with photos everyday. E V E R Y D A Y.
@jessafishy I totally dig the boudoir photos as long as it's the first thing hanging in your house. we did a couples boudoir shoot when we got engaged. They're in our room and we love them.

Absofreaking-lutely. I potty trained both of mine at the same time after a Disney trip last year and my first thought when we were "done" was "holy crap that would've been miserable if they were potty trained in Disney world." My #1 piece of advice for parents of kids younger than mine is wait until they're ready. DD1 wasn't potty trained until 3 months before she turned 4 but she was never quick with things and really wasn't ready until then. DD2 potty trained with her older sister and she was 2.5. While I'm very glad they're both potty trained, I would never recommend "potty training before baby comes because I don't want 2 in diapers" or pushing a just turned 2 year old to potty train. I got lucky with DD2, decided to give it a shot and it happened to work. I wasn't expecting it to and honestly had only planned to give her one more day of hard core trying before sticking her butt back in diapers. She was night trained before DD1. But potty training just means seeing every gross restaurant bathroom ever and having to locate a bathroom with a full cart in the middle of the grocery store no matter when you made them pee beforehand. Nope....I'm not in a rush this time around!
I also think maternity pics aren't for me, I'm a whale and I prefer no photographic evidence. I'm in that lovely "is she just extra fat or pregnant" phase that I stay in for awhile during my pregnancies and I tend to deliver right around when people think they're "pregnant enough" for photos. Nope. I'll get awesome professional photos of my cute babies instead...much better investment :-P
I don't have any original thoughts today and haven't really posted here this week, life is just nuts but you ladies do crack me up!
+1 on not being in a hurry to PT. DD2 just turned 3 and shows very little interest. Meanwhile, MIL and my mom keep passive-aggressively talking to her about it in a way that makes it clear they don't approve that I haven't started it with her yet. IDGAF what you think, it's my kid, I know her and I am the one that has to do this. They pulled the same BS with my other two and it makes me so stabby. I am a firm believer in not pushing your kids to PT before they're ready, as they will have negative feelings towards the potty and hold it all in, causing issues for them down the road. Plus, diapers are just so much nicer when out and about.
My UO: I think it's great that some people like super love their pets. But I think some things are just ridiculous. DH and I were watching Shark Tank the other night and this dude had a "wine" for cats. WTAF is the point of that? Plus I see these commercials for this "natural" pet food and just can't help but laugh because I'm sure most people don't even care that much about what's in their OWN food. Not to mention, my dog licks her butt and eats rabbit shit, so I'm not paying extra money on dog food because it's "natural" or whatever.
Ummmm @sjohns08 I may or may not have bought a cat wine for my cat for Christmas. It was called "meow-scato" lol oops. She hated it and it was more for pictures and novelty reasons.
+1 to not pushing potty training. The moms on my other BMB are all about the three day method and I'm over here like, nope! He'll telle when he's ready.
Interesting, though, is that he'll ask to sit on the potty Training daycare but had zero interest at home.

I hear ya on this one!! Most moms I admit this to look st me like I have three heads. Diapers are SO CONVENIENT!!! (And this is why my 2.35yr old DD is still in diapers, lmao)

Peer pressure. DD immediately potty trained at preschool within like 2 weeks. But she holds her poop until she gets home and has had a few accidents at home. Apparently she doesn't care if she pees herself in front of ma and pa, but not in front of her friends!

Totally agree with you carries2018 on the belly holding and rubbing especially when it is strangers who want to touch your stomach. It thankfully has not happened to me yet but I am scared of it. I have some personal space issues I think and I guess I don't like being touched.
Also my other unpopular opinion is not wanting to have an epidural. When people ask about the eventual delivery I end up talking about how we are going with a midwife and birth center and they seem surprised that I do not want an epidural but I am so freaked about the long needle and having to have a catheter and such.
@Amesie13 and @carries2018 I have an issue with people invading personal space, pregnant or not. I have a plan in place it that were to happen.
If a stranger tries to touch my belly without asking first (hasn't happened yet, thankfully), I'm going to reach out and touch their stomach without saying anything while maintaining intense, direct eye contact.
But I'm feisty like that too.
Edited because typing on the phone is difficult.

- I like cats. Sometimes it comes down to the individual cat. Some cats are sweet and some are not. My cat my very sweet and affectionate but acts a little crazy. Starts running around the house for no apparent reason. Jumps up on surfaces (the kitchen counter, the dinner table) she knows she's not supposed to jump on, ect.
- I love wearing high heels but they have to be super high or else no. I don't wear them often because they're not terribly comfortable. But I feel like I can conquer the world in a pair of pumps.
- Nothing from me on potty training as I don't have any children yet.
- I don't know what micro blading is.
- Any kind of photo session is awkward for me. Me being in them I mean. I'm not not natural in front of a camera.

I have to admit, I was slightly irritated when Heidi Montag announced she was due in October. How come we couldn't have a cool celeb due in O17?
